Anybody touching his hat, Vampires in general, The taste of a warm, flat beer, People starting fights, Men who hit women, Having a hangover in the morning, Being forced to drink blood to survive

Just a drifter trying to stay out of trouble.  Occasionally he sings at the local bar on Saturday nights and works full time as a mechanic in the garage.

*sigh* "Well...gather 'round, y'all, cause I got a story to tell."

"This is the story of a man who lost everything..."

It happened one dark and stormy night on a ranch down South.  John and his beautiful wife Maria were just bedding down, after a hard days work roping cattle and tending to their livestock, when one of the ranch hands came barging in, his shirt soaked with rain and perspiration, his eyes wide as saucers amidst his ghostly white face.

"John, we got rustlers stealin' our cattle!  Hurry up!"  He hollered frantically.  John hopped out of bed and threw on his jeans and his boots, grabbing his .44 revolver out of the gun safe and racing out the front door into the howling winds and crashing lightning of a violent thunderstorm.  Amidst the chaos and the rolling thunder, he could hear the cows mooing in the distance.  He looked and saw the rustlers out on the nearby prairie, nearly seven or eight men all garbed in black, riding on steeds as they rounded up his cattle. 
 John grit his teeth.  "Git those no good cattle thieves, boys!"  He shouted to his men.  "Don't leave none of 'em alive!"

Quickly, John whistled for his horse Blackjack and climbed in the saddle, galloping headlong towards the nefarious riders.  He pulled out his .44, and like a cannon the first shot rang out, hitting the rider and throwing him from his horse to the muddy ground below.  The others soon drew their guns and fired back.  Bullets whizzed past John's ears and snapped at the ground beneath, but suddenly his horse caught one in the leg and down he went, launching John high into the air.  He hit the ground hard, splashing into a muddy puddle.  Before too long, everything went black.

When he awoke, it was to the sound of screams.  The puddle he was lying in had become red and smelled of death.  All around him were the slaughtered remains of his cows...and his ranch hands.  Though weak, his head pounding like a hammer, John pulled himself from the ghastly puddle and staggered back towards his home.  The rain beat heavily upon his battered and bruised body, but still he urged on...despite the incredible amount of pain he was in.  What's worse...there were two deep, gaping holes in his neck still bleeding profusely, as if some sort of creature had bitten a chunk out of him.

Not long after stumbling through the mud and muck, he began to smell smoke.  An ominous orange glow was emanating from beyond the horizon of the rolling hills.  "No!"  John climbed the hill frantically, slipping a few times but clawing his way up.  When he got to the top of the hill, he was looking down at his ranch... in flames.

"NO!  MARIA!!"

John hurried down the hill, pushing through the smoldering heat and thick clouds of black smoke.  All the while, the wounds on his neck began to pulsate with unbearable pain.  He grit his teeth and continued to fight through...until he discovered on the ground before his burning house....his beloved wife Maria, dead...

Her clothing had been torn off, leaving her naked body marred with several cuts and bruises.  More significant were the wounds upon her breasts and her neck.  They were the exact same as the ones on John's neck.  John cradled the body of his wife in his arms, tears streaming from his eyes...eyes that held such hate...such anger...such rage...  He vowed he would hunt down the ones who did this to him.

Vampires...

"You better give your soul to the Lord, boy...because your ass belongs to me!"

Years later, John tracked down the vampires to their hideout in an abandoned meat packing plant.  One by one, he killed them off, only to leave their leader alive for interrogation.  The sniveling coward tried to run, but John shot him in both legs.  Eye to eye with the hellish creature, he snarled grasping the man by his collar, "Why did you do it?"

"W-what the hell you talkin' about?!  I didn't do anything!"  He sputtered in reply.  John slammed him up against the wall, foaming at the mouth.

"Like Hell you didn't, boy!  You know damn good and well what you did that night!  You killed my cattle and drank their blood!  Then you raped my wife, and you murdered her!  HER AND MY SON!!"

Maria never had the chance to tell John...she was pregnant with his child.

"We...we were told to, man!  He told us to kill everyone on the ranch, even the cows!"  The man stuttered, trembling in John's iron grip.

"Who?!"  John screamed slamming the vampire harder against the wall.  "Gimme a name, boy!"

"M-Matthias Grimm!"  Finally the man spat out amidst his terrified whimpering.  "He said he'd let us in if we killed you!  We were gonna be made men, you know!  Run with his crew in the big city!"

The city...that's where John would find this "Matthias" and put a bullet right between his eyes.

"C'mon man!  I-I told you what you wanted!  Let me go!"  Afterwards he begged...but mercy...John would show none.

"Y'all expect me...to let you go?"  He scoffed, his pale blue eyes turning a sinister shade of red.  "After you burned my ranch to the ground and took the love of my life away?!  Lemme tell you somethin', son!  You probably ain't a made man...but you're sure as hell a DEAD MAN!"

"NO!!!"

And with that, John threw the man over the railing of the balcony...overlooking the whirring, blood soaked blades of an industrial meat processing machine.  The sickening crack of bones and sputters of blood and guts soon silenced the man's awful screams.  John glimpsed over the broken railing at the gory, grisly scene, nonchalantly pulling a cigarette from his pocket and clenching it between his dry lips.  He struck a match against his jeans and lit the slightly crumpled Marlboro, taking a slow drag and muttering dryly as he exhaled a wispy puff of smoke...

"Damn....bet that hurt."

Now John has come to the big city, a place that's just as alien to him as another planet would be.  He has a hard time adjusting to this new way of life, the constant hustle and bustle of the streets and the lack of wide open prairies and rolling green hills.  But even if he has to stay in this place for a while, he will find Matthias Grimm and reap his revenge.

"Wherever you are, Matthias...I will find you...and Hell's comin' with me."

-As a half-blood, John does not suffer from the common vampire weaknesses.  He can traverse through sunlight freely without harm, withstand the smell of garlic without headaches or nausea, and wear silver jewelry without burning.  John also gains vampiric abilities such as enhanced speed & agility, keen, sharpened senses, enhanced strength, and the ability to see clearly in the dark.

-However, just like vampires, John must feed on blood, and can only feed on blood, otherwise he will either starve to death or turn feral.

-For the time being, John lives in a small house with just a bedroom, a living room, a small kitchen and bathroom, and a TV set which he never watches.  Instead, John prefers to read books.

-He drives around in an old 1978 Ford F-150, a gift from his late father when he passed his driver's test at sixteen.  John has always cherished it.  When he's not hunting Matthias and his men, he's usually in his garage working on it.

-He carries around his and Maria's wedding rings on a chain around his neck, along with a cross pendant with a white diamond in the middle, the birthstone of his unborn son.

-John speaks in a southern drawl, which has worked in charming a few ladies here and there, but it has often gained him ridicule...which he doesn't take kindly towards.

-When neutral or happy, John's eyes remain their natural pale blue.  However, when angered, they will shift to vampiric red.
