Technically 11/15 cards of her extra deck are XYZ, but I figure that since she'll probably be using fusion more, (mostly in her Shaddoll deck) and how XYZ is expected to be in most decks of every house that Neos House was more suitable.
Finally finished with a proper character. Well, at least with one deck.
Name: Elly Ludenza Sex: ♀ Age: 17 House: Neos House Appearance: Duel Disk: An incredibly frilly monstrosity that balances out its porcelain texture and the excessively long ribbons and cloth adorning it with little skulls sewn on and burn marks around the edges. It folds and unfolds around a visible metal joint, and every time it does, an ungodly creak sounds. Personality: Extremely harsh, foul-mouthed and quick-tempered. Has a silver tongue dipped in poison and a textbook superiority complex. It's hard to look past these staggering flaws, but if someone masochistic enough did so, they'd find that she usually doesn't mean most of the things she says. She's very insecure, with an ongoing self-inflicted stress problem that she worries about constantly. She desperately craves human interaction, but truth be told, she doesn't make a good friend, so she gets it through dueling people, and loves every moment of it. History: Only child of a rich and busy single father, spoiled rotten but never happy. More interesting, was her relationship with the first family maid/nanny. Every Saturday, she'd take young Elly with her to a local soup kitchen. Every Saturday, Elly would complain about being bought there. Every Saturday, Elly would sit on the side, playing a hand-held duel monsters simulator and give foul looks to everyone who came her way, only to be thanked by almost every single patron, every single Saturday, every time she came. This went on for years. One day, she learned the reason everyone thanked her. While, yes, her nanny did ask every single person to do so, it was because her father funded the Soup Kitchen, and was the only reason it managed to stay open.
When she learned this, young Elly became outraged. Her father had money to spend on complete and total strangers, but didn't care enough to get the latest duel monster expansion for his only family member that doesn't have Alzheimers? She confronted her father immediately, and likewise, he was immediately outraged.
Elly's nanny was fired that day, after her many consecutive years of employment. Mr. Ludenza didn't believe a Soup Kitchen was a safe place for his daughter to be while the nanny was busy working the counter.
Elly was happy with the change at first, but eventually decided she liked her first nanny better and complained to her father. Her father who can't say no to her but didn't want to back down tried to appease her by giving her all manners of gifts rather than just ones she asked for. She hated them. These gifts came to be a symbol of the disconnect between her and her father, and as you might imagine, she didn't treat them well.
Next came her middle-school goth phase. It's where she learned to sew. I'm going to skip that part.
As she grew as a person, she started going back to the Soup Kitchen, ditching her current caretakers and finding her old nanny there. Every single time, she would greet Elly with a smile and say that it was good to see her. Likewise, Elly found some old acquaintances, and as it so happened, Those old acquaintances had picked up the game that she, as a lonely little girl, would play by herself in the corner every Saturday.
This was the first time Elly got to play against someone that wasn't in some simulator online.
Elly asked her father for a fancy duel disk (which she immediately modified heavily) and started coming back more and more until her father took notice. When he did however, what he saw was the successful young duelist his daughter was becoming. Truly, seeing Elly happy was a rare sight. Cussing out the impoverished in a soup kitchen however, was unacceptable. He suggested that she enroll in Saotome Duel Academy and become a professional. Elly denied him, saying that she wanted to be a surgeon. After a long, drawn-out talk with her father, he convinced her that she could always just take online courses later to become a surgeon, but becoming a pro duelist while she was still young was much more practical. Wish: Become perfect, such so that everyone will have to love her. Deck: 1 deck is complete. I intend for her to also use a Shaddoll deck, but I feel it needs some more refining, and I'll PM KOGaming when I've edited in. In the future, if it's not already taken, I might also make a Gimmick Puppet deck for her, which would put her at three decks. Until either of those happens, this is the one she'll be using:
Artemia the Doll Queen Rank 1 DARK Spellcaster Xyz Effect monster 1000 ATK / 300 DEF 2 level 1 Spellcaster-Type Monsters Once per turn, you can detach 1 Xyz material from this card; shuffle two "doll" monsters in your grave with 300 or less attack or defense into your deck, then draw a card. Then, if it was a "doll" card, you can reveal it to your opponent; special summon it. If you have a monster other than this card on your side of the field, this card cannot be destroyed. You take no battle damage while "Alice the Wandering Doll" is on the field.
~
Michael the Doll King Level 5 DARK Spellcaster Fusion Effect monster 300 ATK / 1000 DEF 2 or more "Doll Part" monsters with different names Must first be special summoned (from your extra deck) by shuffling the above cards on your side of the field or graveyard into your deck. (You do not use "Polymerization".) When this card is summoned by its own effect, it gains effects based on the number of "Doll Part" cards with different names shuffled into your deck: 1 or more: Once per turn, target one "Alice the Wandering Doll" on your opponent's side of the field. Take control of it. 2 or more: All "doll" monsters you control with 300 or less original attack or defense gain 2000 attack and defense. 3 or more: If this card is targeted by a card effect or would be destroyed, you can destroy another "doll" monster on your side of the field instead; If this card was targeted by a card effect, negate the effect. 4 or more: Once per turn, during either players turn, you can destroy one "Alice the Wandering Doll" on either side of the field: Until your opponent's next end phase, Negate the effects of all monsters on your opponent's side of the field. Also, all spell cards, trap cards, and "doll" monsters you control cannot be destroyed, except by their own effects.
~
Solar Legacy: Anabel the Doll Princess Level 5 DARK Spellcaster Fusion Effect monster 1300 ATK / 0 DEF 3 "doll" monsters with different names Must first be special summoned (from your extra deck) by targeting the above cards in your hand or on your side of the field. (You do not use "Polymerization".) When this card is special summoned: add 1 "doll" monster with 0 attack or defense from your deck to your hand, then destroy it and all targeted cards. This card gains 300 attack and defense for each "doll" card in your graveyard. Once per turn, if this card is sent to the graveyard by a card effect, you can special summon it in face-up attack position. Once per turn, you can target this card and 1 monster your opponent controls; until the end phase, switch control of both cards, then add 1 "Doll Hammer" from your deck or grave to your hand.
I'm aware. The Legendary Fisherman's effect itself is centered around Umi, and water support is generally better than wind support.
Regarding Fire Fists, I don't like just picking archetypes. To me, just picking up random archetypes you're unfamiliar with is like making a cookie cutter deck. Even if I get to learning the card effects and how they work together, the actual flavor doesn't really appeal to me.
I've been PMing KOgaming, and we've been discussing things to that effect. (Gameplay thematicism vs. Monster and flavor thematicism)
I've bought up a lot of decks that mainly focus on the first; manners of elegantly getting off certain gameplay goals and cards that help make that happen. Instead of saying "this character is whimsical, you can tell by how they use the monster Baobaboon." I can say "this character is whimsical, you can tell by how they seem to do something dumb or suicidal every turn only to reveal it's to their benefit."
Granted, this comes at the expense of the thematicism of their cards overall, which is a valid point, but saying I'm not going to find a gameplay style to match their personality but I'll find an archetype that stylistically matches them seems disingenuous, but that's just my opinion.
Crow Goblin has the same stats as The Legendary Fisherman, but without an effect. It was meant to be an example of how subjective balance is in terms of "wow these cards are nuts, if I make custom cards to compete with them, they also need to be nuts!"
I'm kind of having a hard time deciding how to put things together, and it encapsulated my dilemma.
Let's say I wanted to make an archetype around this card, Crow Goblin:
So I submitted this card:
Crow Goblin, the Croblin Overlord Level 7 WIND Winged-Beast effect monster 2500 ATK / 2000 DEF Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by Tributing 1 "Crow Goblin", and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. When this card is Special Summoned: You can banish all monsters your opponent controls, also this card cannot attack this turn. Cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects, also unaffected by Spell/Trap effects. Once per turn: You can return as many of your opponent's banished cards as possible to the Graveyard, and if you do, the first battle or effect damage your opponent takes this turn becomes doubled.
A nuke effect like that is too powerful, especially given how little summoning conditions are needed for it. A Totem Dragon could easily provide it with what it needs. Truth be told, I'm not sure what can be done to improve it in terms of balance.
Evilswarm Exciton Knight is banned, for what it's worth.
While my opinion is probably meaningless in this context, it needs a nerf but not a huge one.
Five seconds pass after Sirius knocked on Riss’ door. No one answers.
Sirius knocks on the door some more and hears the sound of ceramics breaking on the floor. Did something just break? I should check to see if everything’s okay. He yells, “I’m coming in!” and grasps the doorknob. To his surprise, it opens to reveal a raven that appears just as surprised. It immediately flies about the room, knocking over a potted plant. Sirius manages to catch the pot with a platform of light before it joins the one that he apparently heard fall over earlier. After flying in circles around the room a couple of times cawing like a maniac, the raven eventually settles on the body of a dead cat lying on its back, whose unblinking eyes gives Sirius a playful look.
The sweet imagery of a cat and a bird getting along is immediately ruined when the raven starts pecking at a small opening in the cat’s stomach, pulling out a tiny chunk of offal.
Sirius finds Riss underneath the dead cat, lying stomach-down on his bed with a pillow over his head, held down on either side.
“Riss?” Sirius calls out tentatively.
Riss pushes the pillow aside and lifts himself up by his elbows, looking behind him so as not to disturb the bird and cat on his back. The raven caws moodily at Sirius anyway. “What?”
“How are you doing?” Sirius asks gently.
Riss shrugs nonchalantly despite his puffy red eyes. “Cat just died for no good reason, so that’s a bummer.”
“Want to talk about it at all?” Sirius prompts while also returning the pot to its rightful place. He boxes up the broken remains of the pot and funnels it into… another pot. Riss doesn’t appear to own a trash can.
Riss considers Sirius’s question for a moment, then shakes his head. “Nah, I’m not gonna waste your time.” He pulls the duplicate body of his deceased cat off his back so he can turn around and sit up, letting the raven eat from the cat’s corpse in his lap.
Sirius’s expression remains neutral, “It’s not a waste of my time to help someone out.”
“Save it,” Riss says immediately. “Is that the only reason you came to see me?” Riss should have been a Psyche Mage.
“My main reason, yes,” Sirius replies, “My other reason was that I wanted to ask if you were interested in hunting manabeasts for artifacts.” It would be good for Riss to get his mind off his dead cat.
“Yes.” Riss says immediately before realizing how he sounded. “On one condition.”
Sirius turns his head quizzically.
“Can you use your light magic to replant this?” Riss gestures to the dirt scattered about his floor and the poor flower trying to cling onto as much of it as it can.
“It won’t be very precise, but I could,” Sirius answers. Light shines around the mess and scoops up allllllllll the dirt.
Riss sets his dead cat (complete with live bird) down on his bed, then grabs another pot lying around and places the flower in the center of the pot as Sirius pours the dirt in.
“Alright, let’s meet up with everyone now,” Sirius says cheerfully, before Riss even sets the newly potted plant down.
Riss is immediately suspicious of what Sirius is doing here. He didn’t mention other people before, but Riss ultimately discards the thoughts as irrelevant. He takes steps towards the door to give the illusion he’s following Sirius before closing the door partially so Sirius can’t see what he’s about to do next.
Going back to his bed, he picks up the dead cat and holds its face to his, cuddling it. “I’ll miss you.”
Riss sets the dead cat in the flower pot, leaving his bird to have at it. He quickly grabs some gardening tools to fight manabeasts with, tossing them in a backpack and leaving his room to catch up with Sirius, who walked a short ways away already.
When they enter the cafeteria, Sirius waves a hand at the group and exclaims, “Hey guys, Riss is joining us!”
Before you go about creating custom cards, what kind of character are you thinking of making?
I'm thinking of a few characters actually.
The one I was thinking of making most is a mellow guy with a World deck. It revolves around using Arcana Force XXI: The World combined with Treeborn Frog and Samsara Lotus to infinitely skip the opponent's turn. It was previously an exodia deck, (as infinitely skipped turns means infinitely drawn cards) but I've found Gimmick Puppet of Leo to be less of a burden on the deck's consistency.
Samsara Lotus is his Kuriboh. It's probably one of the most useless cards in the game outside of this one specific purpose, so if there was any card to model his Solar Legacy off of, it'd be this card.
His second deck would be a level one deck, using cards like Kinka-Byo, Treeborn Frog, level 1 Ghostricks, Where Arf Thou and One for One to spam rank 1 XYZs or, if the proper Rank-Up Magic is to be had, Utopic Dragons and Hope ZEXALs.
Samsara Lotus works in this deck, but doesn't really do anything to help it, which is why I keep trying to make custom Lotus cards minimize the damage Samsara Lotus would have by bringing it along. It basically goes like this: Samsara Lotus would allow you to summon custom Lotus, custom Lotus keeps your Samsara Lotus from being a weakness, and will eat an attack just like Treeborn Frog, but unlike Treeborn Frog, actually gives you a reward if it survives the turn. Finally, considering both decks he would use don't keep spell or trap cards out, forcing the opponent to have no continuous spell or traps like you seemed like a good idea. (Yes, it's going to run three heavy storms) Wiping the board right before you would repopulate it with Treeborn Frog on your standby phase also could have been cool, but I guess the whole thing wasn't executed very well overall.
The next possible character uses a Heart of the Exodia deck. You know how that deck goes already.
The final character I was thinking of would use a deck so stupid that I think it would be an injustice to spoil it now.
Is it igknights or metalfoes? Because those decks are playable without Exodia. I'm not even opposed to alternative win conditions as long as it's not a deck that doesn't include opponent interaction.
Neither actually. It's just a Heart of the Exodia deck with a sizeable amount of pendulums/dinosaurs and Evolzars in the extra deck. It tries to get out Heart of the Underdog as soon as possible, (using beatsticks or early Evolzars to protect itself) draw most of if not the entire deck, then win on its second turn from Exodia. Failing that, (which isn't all that common honestly) it can use all the cards it drew to XYZ summon three Evolzars, (which by itself could be enough to win the game when players have only 4000 lifepoints) and try again next turn, probably with two Hearts this time.
It's really quite an all-or-nothing deck, but it's also kind of funny that it unironically uses the card "Two-Headed King Rex".
You can have multiple decks. The Solar Legacy includes itself whether the player wants it there or not.
Time to rethink my existence.
The deck I had originally planned on was frankensteined together from two different decks that work vaguely well together, but I think I should separate them, considering that they have different goals in mind and end up bloating the deck, even when all cards are at 1-2 quantity.
So, how about this:
Neraka Lotus Rank 1 DARK Xyz Plant Effect monster 0 ATK / 0 DEF 2 level 1 monsters Once per turn, during your end phase, if you control a level 2 or lower monster on your side of the field, you can special summon this monster from your graveyard. While this card is face-up on the field, level 3 or lower monsters on your side of the field cannot be targeted for attacks. When this card is destroyed, destroy all level 4 or lower monsters in attack position, and if any of your opponent's monsters are destroyed, take 500 damage. During your standby phase, you can tribute this card and send one other monster on your side of the field to the graveyard to return one card on each side of the field to their respective owners' hands.
I have a deck in mind that uses pendulums, but considering the deck aims for a second turn exodia victory and only attempts to start spamming the board when it can't do that... it might not be best for this RP.
the big thing I wanted to see was themed decks
Are we allowed to have multiple decks on the same character? If so, does every deck the character uses have to include their Solar Legacy? I have an extremely bizarre deck in mind separate from the one above.
Edit: On that note, are custom card restrictions on a per-character basis, per-deck basis, or per-RPer basis?
