In SoL, the 'goals' become the drama and interpersonal connections/histories players make with each other. Plus setting in in places like a school/college for example give you a timeline to work with.

About
Been at this game for a good while now. Starting RPing at the tender age of 15 back when Bebo was a thing. A year later I found myself forum Roleplaying and haven't really looked back since. Over these past ten years I have done practically every kind of RP you could imagine from Nation RPs and Arena RPs to 1x1s and Large group RPs. My last RP hobby was fighting RPs, which I have now decided to leave behind in order to pursue more SoL style Rps.

Outside of RP I am an aspiring writer, despite being terrible with words, as well as an avid gamer. If I am not on discord with the Guild or RPing in some way, I am probably on either my PlayStation or on Steam. Moved into D&D and ended up starting a podcast that has been an interesting journey.

If I were to apply for one of the tragic backstory characters, would you like said tragedy to tie into the series of unconnected murders somehow? Or would you prefer them to be unrelated?

They can be connected. Sell it however you like and then when I get all the applications I will see what comes together.

Welcome to Westcliffe, A small town nestled neatly away between the peaks of Colorado, USA. Isolated from the rest of the world, Westcliffe is like an ecosystem all of its own. Few people visit, no one leaves. The result of the isolation of this small town had created a tight-knit community with distrust to outsiders. While the town does have formal leadership, the town is actually controlled by the DeWinter family, which if you believe all of the tales, is actually a witch coven, hiding away from the world. A tale, however, that everyone in the town believes.

The biggest event on the Westcliffe calendar is the fabled Halloween festival. The town goes all out and launches a massive festival, decorating the entire town with creepies and ghoulies. However the past 7 years or so, a dark secret has hung over the heads of the town. Something everyone acknowledges, but no one wants to talk about. Every year, on the night of the festival, or a day later, there has been a murder. Not to mention that people's behaviours seem to change during the build-up to the festival. What could be causing it? The murders don't seem related and each time the suspect has been caught, well, nearly most of the time. Nothing connects the murderers, nothing connects the victims, only that they all believe the DeWinters are responsible in some way.

So, This is not your typical murder mystery RP. Things are not quite as they seem and everything you think you know is about to get thrown out of the window. This RP focuses mostly on the interactions of a bunch of seniors during their final year at school, across roughly a two week period.

Westcliffe Town
Westcliffe is a small mountain town located up in the flat plains between the Colorado mountains. With a population of just under 2,000 people, the community is relatively sealed off from the rest of the world. This doesn’t mean the town doesn’t have luxuries, it receives deliveries all the time, just hardly anyone moves in and no one moves out. Ever. Given the towns small nature, everyone seems to known everyone and their business. Nothing stays a secret for long, unless it pertains to the DeWinter family, then suddenly everything seems to be shrouded in mystery.

The local school is also extremely small given its size. Grades are largely bunched together into a single classroom order to save money on hiring lots of teachers. This is the case currently, where the Seniors, Juniors, Sophomore and Freshman years are all bunched together into a single class equaling 23 students.

The mainstay for the town is the Halloween festival, rather than go around and trick or treat, the whole town gathers on the local town square and high street to have a parade and festival, full of stalls and ceremonies. The festival is mired in tradition, which culminates in the final procession where the Heiress of the DeWinter Family walks down the street to the town square and lights 5 candles at the bottom of the base of the statue of the towns found; Lamorna Dewinter.

Characters
In terms of characters, the biggest group I would be willing to take for this is Six. The more I add, the more complex the system gets. Six feels like a comfortable number of players to achieve a nice balance. I probably should mention that all the characters are in high school, roughly 17/18. So these are the roles I currently have in mind:

DeWinter Heiress:
New Resident in town:
Tragic Backstory 1:
Tragic Backstory 2:
Standard Character 1:
Standard Character 2:

In terms of a character sheet, this one requires no special information. As such you are free to use any template you like to help you mold your character. I know some people like to create aesthetically pleasing ones to get into character or to give them long backstories. Obviously, we need the basics such as Name, Age, Appearance, Personality, but asides from that, write to your hearts content. For this RP don't worry about relationships etc, you will all be in the same class and that will be our reason for meeting up. Since I can only take 6 characters, I won't use length as a decider for being accepted, but more so I will how you make your character come to life

For those who struggle to come up with a character sheet of their own, I have this base you can you:

Rules and Information
So rules time:

  • Standard Guild Rules apply, being courteous in OOC etc.
  • Standard RP Rules apply also, so no godmodding and meta-gaming etc, that last one is very important in this game.
  • For this RP, given the fact there will murders etc, it is going to be a strict, please be 18 or overrule. This RP is going to be dark at times.
  • Post length will be a minimum of one decently written paragraph. I don't expect you to write an awful lot more, but I know some people find it easier than others.
  • Post Cycle is once a week. I know that might seem rapid, but given the pace of the RP, and the smaller posts, I am hoping we can speed it up.
  • If you can't post in a cycle do not worry, just let me know beforehand. I can use some magic to help you out.
  • When your character dies, please do stay around, I can't spoil it, but I would love for you to stay as we might need you for some scenes.
  • Don't reveal any private information sent to you by me to others. The whole point of this RP is you are trying to work out what everyone else is doing without giving yourself away in the process.
  • Real Life FCs only please, just to keep things consistent.
  • Character Submission Deadline is Sunday 10th January 12.00pm GMT. Successful applicants will be in PMed their instructions later in the day. Multiple people can submit characters for the same role. Please do not get offended if you do not get accepted.
Welcome to the site!

I am sure you will find someone who will be willing to do a 1x1 with you or even introduce you to group RPs. Stick around and everything will turn out great!
Righto, seems like we have enough interested people to get something put together. I will post a OOC up either today or tomorrow!
2020 has been an awfully mixed year for me. Asides from my depression year that cut me off, this year is the single most disruptive year to my RPing schedule. I normally aim to GM 2-3 RPs a year but this year I was only able to get one RP off ground before life decided to get in the way of everyone and the RP stalled. But that's alright. I feel as if my writing skill has if anything regressed somewhat this year. I haven't been able to put the time and love I would normally pit into my writing and as a result I have felt quiet isolated at times.

2021 is going to be a new start. I am going to stop RPing in other places where people are illiterate and start focusing more time on being here on the Guild. I have an amazing bubble of friends here who over the past year I have neglected to go find other shiny toys to look at, only to realise they were cheap knock offs. I plan on starting some new RPs. I have a few ideas, some good, some bad, but I will throw them out there and see what sticks.

Here is to 2021 - May you not be as shit as 2020
Good morning, and happy 2021! As I'm currently working on a new request thread and want to start fresh, what with this being a new year and all, I would like to have this current thread deleted. Thank you much. :)

Gone and Deleted!
Welcome to the Guild!

I am sure you will fit in perfectly fine here. There is always some kind of Fantasy RP going on somewhere in the Guild. If you are looking to jump right into a Roleplay I suggest you take a look at the Casual and 1x1 Intrest check sections of the forum!

Jaxtyn had gotten quite lucky. Using some pull he had managed to get out of the tour guiding and instead had spent his morning checking around the school to make sure that everything was going okay. I meant that he didn’t have to hang around one place too long and he got to scout out all the newcomers, even if it was briefly. Walking down the corridors he was able to, albeit at a safe distance watch Steph hitting Colin right in the nose. He couldn’t help but feel rather happy at that. As an upstanding member of the school, he should have reported it, but he as far as he was concerned, he didn’t see anything.

He doubled back on himself to avoid crossing Colin, his mood now noticeably happier. Since he was close by he decided to duck over to the library and just make sure that no one was hiding or getting up to anything they shouldn’t do. Entering the library, Jax closed the door behind him. He smiled softly. This was home. His safe space from the outside world. When he wasn’t out trying to traverse the wasteland of Rosefell, you could find him here. Thankfully the place had been left unturned over the summer break. The place didn’t exactly have the best selection of books, so most people stayed clear. But to Jaxtyn, who had no money, this was a paradise.

He spent a while browsing through the collection of books. The non fiction section was his primary home, he had read most of the books here once, alot more of them he had even read twice, just to help extract more knowledge out of them. He made a mental note to come back later and take some of the books out for reading. At this point he looked at his watch. He had some time to kill, so decided to go outside. He pushed his way through the crowds of reuniting students and sat down on some of the benches where the Liberty Students had arrived. He pulled on his white collar shirt as he sat down just to give his neck some breathing space for a second. Pulling out his phone he began to browse through the schools social media profiles. Seeing what people were saying on twitter. He quickly typed his own tweet and hit send.

Feels good to be back. One more year. Gotta make it count.

Was it cheesy? Heck yeah. But Jaxtyn didn't really care so much for it. Everything he said was true. He was looking forward to coming back all summer. With his parents working retail jobs and barrel having money, summer was rather bland. He spent most of it indoors occasionally messaging fellow Rosefell students to see if he got a response. Being back here meant some level of normality...even if these new Liberty High students were a curveball. Letting out a soft sigh, he put his phone away and would check it later. He pulled his bag up and pulled a book relating to quantum mechanics and started picking up where he left off.
