They say it's about the journey, not the destination. This is true of many things. Pizza delivery is not one of them.

TFW you know what you want to happen but the words aren't cooperating. Why is plot suddenly so much harder to write?

Glad to see I'm not the only follower of Lord Cato, god of wisdom, on this most auspicious Superb Owl Sunday.

Bio

I am an adult, though I don't usually act like it. I'm a voracious reader, and not overly picky about books. I am artistic in a variety of areas, including music, drawing, writing, and sculpting. I have a minor obsession with dragons, and love the color violet. Fantasy is my preferred genre, be it past, future, urban...as long as it has a fantasy flavor to it. I also like scifi, mystery, and some horror. I am crazy, and I like tormenting my characters. But I don't bite...much. ^.~

@LadyRunic Something that only matters to him would, by definition, not be world-changing. And neither doesn't seem to fit him well, but that's based only on what I've seen thus far. =P
@LadyRunic As Sini is fond of saying, it's better to get people to give you what you want willingly. Not to mention I seem to recall you saying he stands by his word when he gives it. I do wonder what his endgame is, though. It's either something big, or something that matters only to him. No in between for Falk, I think. =P
@BlackPanther While Spring is trying to ally with Summer and Winter...haa~ this is fun.

Sini: I'd be willing to ally with Fall, if Falk would entertain the notion. *shrug* And if I thought Nyx would be willing, as well....
@chukklehed Nikki will debate that heatedly. =P
@LadyRunic SJ TUCKER *tackles*

@Ojo chan 42 1000 is not ancient by fey standards. Most of the characters are about that old. I think more like 10,000 might be ancient? Maybe older? *looks at Runic for a ballpark number* And someone like that turning humans would probably be noticed. Not to mention that, again, he'd need a group -- or risk a very high chance of failure. Plus if Eleanor was turned singly, she'd be pretty powerful compared to most seasonborn. The fey wouldn't like that possibility.
Amuné regretted making a fuss the moment she realized she'd attracted attention, but it was too late to fix it. Wyth snarled softly at Cecil's approach, and she had to shift her attention to the moorcat, grabbing him around the neck and scolding. "Hush, he's trying to help." She felt even worse when Cecil left, and felt like maybe she should go after him, but would that even help? Things were so confusing.

At least Geoffrey had a good way to explain away the commotion, though Zander adding his two coppers was unwelcome. Ethan helped the girl back up and brushed her off as she flushed red. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that," she mumbled, looking at the floor. "I know she won't...but /they/ might." She hugged herself, looking even more upset for a brief moment before she tried to clear her expression. She sat down again and poked at the food. If she'd been in a better mood, or less angry at Nymira, the child might have thanked the Dimuran, but as it was she just ignored the woman. She was hungry, and at the same time she wasn't really. It was a strange feeling, not a pleasant one at all, but she let Ethan convince her to eat most of what was on her plate.

------

Amuné's sleep was mostly untroubled, helped by the warm presence of Wyth at her side. She'd decided not to pester Ethan that night -- his breath was stinky and made her nose wrinkle, contributing a great deal to her choice. Morning found her up early, quietly frowning at a few small items from Ethan's pack. The girl had chosen to work on her magic until they had to head out, though she worried Zander might sense something, but he didn't seem very smart and if he said anything she'd just lie to him. "Shouldn't have had so much to drink," she said primly, when Ethan groaned a protest to being roused. Mommy always said those that drank to much deserved what they got. She left Ethan to get ready and headed downstairs with the others. Amuné was rather tired too, after the attempts at using her magic, but not so much that she was falling asleep. It was just a heaviness in her body, and she could deal with that.

Nymira's approach was greeted with a frown, and she almost turned the money down. But the comment about Ethan was far too accurate, and the child accepted with a sigh. She immediately frowned up at the woman after taking it. "Don't think I forgive you just because I'll help Ethan," she said, her tone sulky.
@Mokley I thought it was handled well, so stop protesting. =P
@LadyRunic Hundreds of years? How do they keep the humans from dying before they finish? =P Teasing, I am sure there's either a way or the start of the ritual is enough to do it. Oh, and the whole fey realm thing.

Actually this makes Laira's background a bit difficult, as if he's going to invest that much time into converting the mother, why would the father not stick around? Plus it messes up the timeline for her story. Unfortunate. I thought it was a matter of a couple years at the outside, but that's much, /much/ longer than I thought -- and also a huge effort. Also a big risk to change anyone, if it takes that long, and a big commitment. And again, there's the issue of she'd need to be with a group, and who else was turned, and why?

I wonder what happens if you start the ritual and don't finish it. Actually, Runic, it occurs to me that in modern times, I don't think the Fey courts have much of a need for humans turned to fey, so any ones converted would be done in the higher-risk manner. That will discourage most fey, but not all. An interesting thought.

Also Falk...I wonder who turned him, and what era he's from. I wonder if he's from the era of the Tuatha de Danaan...it'd make some sense....*thoughtful*
@BlackPanther it's rare, it's risky, and it results in greater power, which is generally undesirable for the purpose seasonborn were created to fill.

@Ojo chan 42 The sister lived there, and even with Clyde just visiting there's nothing stopping Eleanor from saying something about it. Or the sister from saying something to Clyde before her death -- I'd think she'd figure it out significantly before the date of her death, and Clyde was visiting frequently. Unless there was considerable indiscretion (which is a possibility, I suppose), a relationship that has a child conceived has been around for some time. I can't speak for how you wish to play her, but it seems likely a girl would speak to her mother-figure about the man she likes, particularly if he's not human and the mother is likewise the same sort of creature. I also can't speak for how many years Clyde was gone looking for a way to turn Eleanor seasonborn.

My honest opinion is that the simplest way to handle everything would be to have Clyde find and grow interested in a certain not-really-human after Laira's father has abandoned her/her mother because of losing interest, but that would require her being seasonborn, and not a kelpie. Or perhaps the mother deliberately stopped contraceptive measures in order to get the father to stay, and he resented that. He liked her, he wanted her to live a long time, but he wasn't willing to stay with her all the time, nor to take her back to the fey realm permanently. *shrug* That's just how I'd write it though. Your way is definitely a possibility, though a tricky one. But that's the fun of writing, isn't it?

I think it is some sort of complicated ritual, but it risks harming the humans -- particularly with fewer of them being changed -- and it requires a good deal of power from the caster. I think it's done over a period of time, to reduce risk of insanity, from what I remember of the discussion on the topic before.
@Mokley I saw. =P
