There are two categories of specialization; Broad and Narrow
Proficiency in a less specialized skill includes all of its specialized components at one lower level. Example: adept one-handed will grant the character apprentice 1H blade, 1H axe and 1H blunt.
Proficiency in a specialized skill includes other specialized skills of the same skill tree, at two levels lower. Example: adept 1H blade also grants the character novice 1H axe and 1H blunt.
Redundant skills can combine together into higher levels of proficiency. Example: investing points into both novice 1H axe and adept 1H blade (granting another novice 1H axe through One-handed) will result in the character having effectively apprentice 1H axe (combined from two novice 1H axe skills).
The ceiling for broad skills is at adept, while narrow skills caps out at expert.

All characters are assumed to have at least basic fluency in Cyrodilic (Common Tamrielic). The Speech skill affects Cyrodilic only, and you must take one (or more) of the skills below to communicate in other language(s).
