My Very Brief Bio

Male, 31 years old. (So I'm practically dead, as we speak.)

Likes (other than writing and roleplaying): I'm into all genres of music. I love to cook. I love the outdoors, and walking through the park near my house. (Yes, really.) I read a lot of thriller/mystery novels. And I usually watch seasonal anime. (Or cooking shows. Because Western Media provides even fewer things that are worth watching.)

But as for my many other neglected hobbies, I've played basically every sport. (Soccer and Bowling being my favorite of the bunch.) And I'm trying to play more video games. (Going through my never-ending Steam library.) Plus, I've dabbled in making electronic & metal music, and I used to play a number of instruments. (Guitar, French Horn, etc.)

Perhaps, I can chalk up this whole year as my greatest roleplaying failure. Since it's been the first one in a long while that's made me not want to keep trying. (A mindset that I acknowledge doesn't really help anything.)

Though I've probably written a full novella's length of content, with just all the introductions or beginning posts that have been almost entirely wasted. Due to usually unexplained reasons that I still understand wholeheartedly. But everyone else's motivation slump, has most certainly impacted my own. (With the single positive caveat, that I don't think any of them ended on bad terms.) But there's only so much a single man can hear. "Wow, your post is excellently written." from a partner that never ends up replying/posting more to it. Which feels like how half of my year was spent.

Yet the other half is arguably worse. Since almost all of my long-term partners have also needed to take a break in recent months. So, whether it has anything to do with me or not. I don't think that it matters. Since the worst 'failure' that can happen in roleplays, are things that kill the fun in them. (And boy, has this year managed to do its damndest.)

So I suppose my biggest personal issue that I can find and work on in the future, is that my time management has gotten abysmal. But the fact that I'm posting on a spam forum page at midnight, is probably not a good step to fixing that problem. (But there's always another day?)
*My favorite place to find new music is shutting down this year. Because this year really wants to disappoint me.*

And the other particular decent tracks I've heard the past few days are bands I already knew and liked anyway.

(With this being one of the few exceptions.)

Sounds like a novel idea, if I do say so myself. So long as it can stay active and focused on the writing.

And perhaps, something like a writer's group would help motivate me to work on a solo project. Instead of simply throwing in the towel and going on my first real/extended hiatus, at a time where I've outlasted one too many of my roleplaying partners this year. Though really, I'd much rather have the excuse to keep at it.

So, do keep your fellow guildmates updated on if you decide to go through with this. And I do genuinely hope it succeeds.
Yeah, you should expect everything to be about Cyberpunk 2077 for a while. Whether it's Skyrim levels of hyped praise, or No Man Sky levels of buyers remorse. (Even if I don't think anything will be particularly impartial, until later down the line.)

Though like the latter, I've already seen people talking about how people should be "lowering their expectations". But the devs, like No Man Sky, are at least partially to blame for that 'high sales on day one' hype. So it's up to the actual quality to see if word of mouth does this game any favors.

But, from simply eyeing the critic reviews, which themselves tend to be worthless anyway. I see a motiff in them, each stating more or less the same things.

1. Bug-ridded. (Which is sadly 100% obvious for triple A games, and anyone at all going into a game that was delayed that many times and expecting those delays to have actually been related to bug polishing is hilarious.)
2. Praise for characters/story. (If this part holds up as true. It already wins the war. Since, like Skyrim, it's top notch gameplay isn't why that game has still sold gangbusters. Plus, anyone can write off bugs or wait for an update to fix a broken game mechanic. Your story and characters, especially in games like this, is ultimately the most important aspect.)
3. "This game isn't my favorite or particularly fantastic or anything." *Proceeds to name drop other bug-riddled launched games like Witcher 3 or TLOU2* 10/10 (Proving how goddamn useless modern critics and their scores are, if I've ever needed another example.)

So aside from playing some Borderlands 2 with a friend that's never played it before and wanted to. I got some Steam X-mas presents early. So I've downloaded Ori and The Will Of the Wisps. (Which I heard is their attempt to be more like Hollow Knight. So, I wonder how accurate 'poor man's Hollow Knight' will fit the game's description. Though frankly, I could use more Metroidvania games in my life.
1. Shameless - We Were Sharks
2. Change - Pale Waves
3. Gauze - Aesop Rock
4. Sodom & Gomorrah - SODOM
5. Prayer - Keaton Henson
6. If We Make It Through December - Phoebe Bridgers
7. Same House - Sara Keys
8. Icons Crown - Cipher Sight
9. Poison Prescribed As Medicine - Outline In Color
10. Intrasport - King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
And, now I've seen fairly in-depth reviews about the shallow quality of Godfall too. So make that prediction three. (Though most people seemed to immediately write this game off as the next Anthem anyway.) So I officially could not care less about the new generation of consoles. Which certainly saves me money.

But, yes Ori was nice. And I managed to actually get more involved with Pyre than Supergiant's previous works, because I actually cared about the characters and their narrative. Though I honestly could've done without the basketball. But in contrast, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, a game I already heard had bad combat, but wanted to try anyway for its narrative gimmick. Was excruciatingly slow and obnoxious. (And I'm pretty sure the game bugged out in an hour of playing it. So it clearly didn't want me to play either.)

So, to replace that, I have an open-world RPG. Fingers crossed? >.>

Also, somebody leaked and streamed the gameplay footage of Cyberpunk 2077. So, the jig is up, and it might very well actually be released in December. Bugs and all, one can only expect. (Though in a single piece of theoretical good news. Is Twitch has become so awful and anti-user, that this game has a built-in streaming mode that will *supposedly* prevent DCMA's.) So, that's something, I guess.

Oh, and what is everyone else playing?
Basically no one in my family likes turkey. (Though I find it okay.) So I'm likely having ribs and ham instead.

And I'm currently losing my f*cking mind and my sides have left orbit, because Onyx Equinox (Crunchyroll's new shitty anime) is by far the best and worst thing I've seen in a while. It's astounding how bad this thing is.

Did you really call it the Sexbox in the year 2020

That, and everyone else on the internet. Since Se(ries)X came out this year. So yeah. It's used both ironically and unironically for abbreviation.

And really, when Mircosoft themselves can't keep their names straight. Why not?
I guess INB4 someone immediately goes to the sales figures to claim something doesn't suck. When it has always been the absolute worst determining factor of quality beside a critics' metascore.

The PS5 and Sexbox consoles are having a rather embarrassing launch thus far. With both consoles already having a larger share of problems than I remember the last generation having. (Including bricking entirely, for multiple reasons.) Plus, each are (purposefully) understocking units in retail and online stores, so only scalpers continue to benefit from their lazy marketing decisions.

But that's not the only thing I predicted correctly, it seems. For several "positive" reviews later, and it's obvious that Spiderman's Miles Morales *was* DLC stretched to a full-priced game. Since, everyone has mentioned the game is astoundingly short and has little content in it. (And that, more than anything, bums me out.) Though, everyone also claimed that the game was super fun, yet they skipped all the boring/bad side content. Which is beyond an oxymoron...

So, in my forever mission to play catch up. I've been trying to find a game that can be half as enjoyable as Hollow Knight was.

But Owlboy didn't really grab me the first time I played, and I haven't returned since. (As I've might of mentioned before. Though maybe I'll try it again sometime.) And I thought I'd really enjoy playing, Rain World, but the controls are borderline flash game bad. And I can't even use my preferred controller, because the devs might've abandoned the game. Which is a damn shame...

However, Ori and The Blind Forest, may very well scratch that "Bullshit, but I'm gonna keep playing anyway" itch. Because damn, the game is gorgeous, and it really did endear you to the character you're playing as. (Even if your side-kick is Navi.)

And since I have yet to hear a single person say anything but, "Hades is a Masterpiece". So I promise to eventually get on that, whenever I find the time to try Supergiant's Pyre. Since I already have that one. (And Bastion and Transistor were both games I thought were kind of fun, but I admittedly never got very far into either of them. The latter which crashed and I lost all my progress on. Thanks PS4.)

Plus, I may very well get into playing the remake of Demon's Souls. Because I enjoyed the few hours I started in Bloodborne. (Which will probably be the *next* game I'll attempt to sink more time into...)
