"I'm home," Shelley said in Cantonese upon entering her house. Shelley's mother and grandmother were in the middle of some sort of argument, so her mother simply gave a short nod of acknowledgment.

Her grandmother, on the other hand, stopped the argument for a moment and turned to Shelley, "Welcome back, Shi Ling," she said in Cantonese, "How was your day at school today?"

Shelley's mother gave Shelley a look that said, 'just indulge her, but not too long; I'm not letting her weasel her way out of this argument just because I'm winning'.

"It was fine..." Shelley said non-noncommittally.

"Did you meet any nice boys?" her grandmother prodded.

"Mom..." Shelley's mother said in exasperation, "Shi Ling's too young, and needs to focus on her studies."

As their argument resumed, Shelley quietly made her way upstairs to her room. Because of the thin walls, she could still hear the argument downstairs, a cacophony that always made her heart sink. She booted up her computer and put on her headphones. Randomly, her grandmother's question popped into her head, and she realized that she had in fact met a boy, Johnathan Hyre, but she doubted that that really counted. But then again, he did ask to meet up on a weekend, but it wasn't like he was asking her out; Shelley wasn't really 'dating material', people hardly looked at her. She didn't really want to go tomorrow, she had just purchased an empire management game during the recent Steam Sale and was ready to waste her whole weekend pouring hours into attempting to conquer the galaxy against a bunch of AI. As if to provoke her, the parchment stuck out awkwardly from a stack of unsorted stationery. She'd be glad to be rid of it along with the dumb rumors that had been circulating. She sighed and booted up the game; she would play until her mom called her down to an awkward dinner.

A few hours later...

The iridescent hyperspace bubble shattered and peeled back in a brilliant display of light as the four ships exited hyperspace and reentered real space and approached orbit over the nearby planet, Cepheus IV. A communications channel was opened between the planetary government and the Captain leading the Incubator Concert. After some deliberation, the four ships entered the atmosphere of the planet and landed in the water. A call went out to all cog pilots to prepare to sortie.

Rather than lining the pilots up in the hangar, Maya just had them all get into their cogs. Once everyone was situated, Maya gave them a quick debriefing, "This will be your first real mission. An insurgent group called 'Homeworld' has been plaguing the Cepheus system for some time. One of their bases has been found on this planet. The Cepheus Planetary Defense Force are here en masse, so it should be a fairly low-risk battle, making this a perfect opportunity for you all to try out your cogs under gravity and gain some actual experience. Since the Planetary Defense Force probably could complete this mission without our help, so if at any point you think you're in over your head, or you do not wish to continue for whatever reason, simply let me know and I will give you permission to pull back, got it? Alright then, instead of launching, we will simply be walking our cogs out of the hangar."

The only exception was Fury, which was jet-shaped and could not walk. After it was launched, the frames holding the cogs in place released, and Obsidian took the lead heading out of the massive hangar doors.

Even though I joined LokiLeo's Steven Universe RP, I'm still sticking around to see if this goes anywhere (I stubbornly do not unsubscribe from threads for months). Thanks for the update though, Jupiter, and no need to apologize; real life happens.

Amber is curious, bubbly and optimistic. She is a bit shy at times, and has difficulty making decisions due to inexperience and lack of confidence. Although she has a hard time articulating it, she has a strong desire for order and safety in her life. As a result, she tends to like Pearl.

Bio
Amber was created towards the end of the Crystal Wars in a kindergarten on Earth. While the Crystal Gems attacked the kindergarten where Amber was created to shut it down, the caretaker ramped up production in an effort to save herself. The caretaker took the newly made gems including Amber, who were too young and inexperienced to fight as an efficient army, and broke or flawed their gems, turning them into gem monsters, hoping to escape in the ensuing chaos. The plan backfired; Amber, in her monstrous rage slew the caretaker. Rose's army was forced to put down all the gem monsters, Amber being among them.

Amber stayed imprisoned in the Crystal Temple until adult Steven healed her. She has little to no recollection of her time as a monster, and has a very innocent and naive outlook in life, having been 'alive' for a long time but aware for almost none of that time.

Electrostasis - Amber has the ability to build up and store an electric charge, and manipulate electrostatic repulsion. This usually means that she tends to run or run in place during battle to build up charge that she can release in a weak, short range lightning spark, or with her devestating finisher, Lightning Kick, and leap into the air followed by a charged, downward strike to the head. She can also statically cling to surfaces.

Conflict Breeds Innovation (A Gundam-Inspired Giant Mecha small-group RP)

Maybe I can prompt Chie with Dr. Alberton? Depending on what you want to do and how Chie would be expected to respond to her dad. If you want to interact with the other lancemates, but Chie is going to be rebellious, I could have Dr. Alberton tell Chie to go along with him to see the rest of the ship, and Chie will refuse and go talk to her lancemates just to spite him. Or if Chie is actually going to go along with Dr. Alberton's, maybe he can do the fatherly thing and prompt her to talk to them, and she'd go a long with it.

Maybe for a topic, she might feel a bit bad about what she had said before and about how their mechs didn't look might much. She might rescind her previous statement, and say they look 'OK'. Or she could talk about how she already feels like an experienced pilot from all the games she's played.

@Pietra, name your price. And since Amber's weapon changed to cleats, if it's not too late to make changes, if you could make her a bit 'sporty' that would be great. If it's too much of a setback, then don't worry about adding it.

Also, Buck Dewey is Mayor Dewey's son, right? Did your Pearl become friends with both of them?
