I'll be going on a two week vacation starting tomorrow and don't know how often I'll have Internet access. Thank you for your patience. I'll try to be more regular when I get back.
Shakti is sweet, pleasant and gentle. He is an extrovert and loves people, approaching people randomly to strike up conversations. He can be uncomfortably forward and touchy-feely. Though he can be sensitive at times, for the most part, he's learned to shrug off aggression and criticism, choosing to focus on the good. He is motivated by a strong desire to experience new things and to be useful to others.
Background:
Shakti is an Indian-American born to hard-working, well-educated immigrant parents, who made enough to provide their son with a comfortable upbringing. He expressed a fluid gender identity at an early age, something which his parents allowed him to explore. Though he faced some antagonism, he had a strong support network from friends and family and was able to shoulder through the worst of the bullying. From his supporters, Shakti learned that heroes didn't have to have physical strength, and set his sights on becoming a unique kind of hero.
His parents knew he had a quirk when his halo suddenly appeared above his head when he was two years old, but couldn't figure out what it was. They knew that when their child kissed either of them, or the family cat, his halo would detach and create a small landmark. A few incidents and a bit of experimentation were required. The first being one time when Shakti's father had finished a particularly stressful day at work. While walking home, after reaching a certain range, his longing to return home sooner than his legs could carry him caused him to warp into Shakti's room suddenly. The second time had been when the family cat kept reappearing in Shakti's room as well. After that, they got the gist of how his power worked and, being the curious, objective types, set out to figure out the limits of Shakti's quirk.
Quirk:
Save Scumming - Shakti can erect a checkpoint at a fixed location, which allows himself and selected individuals to warp to the checkpoint.
Shakti leaves a copy of his halo as a checkpoint at a location. The checkpoint has a 20 yard area of effect.
The checkpoint is created when Shakti 'anoints' someone by kissing them on the forehead. The anointed becomes a 'party member' and has a halo marking them as such.
Shakti can currently anoint a maximum of 3 party members, although each subsequent member must be anointed within the checkpoint's area of effect.
Any party member can teleport back to the checkpoint after a five second channeling time and if they are within the checkpoint's area of effect. Though not necessary, it is easier to focus on the channel by pointing the index and middle finger at one's forehead. As party members move away from the area of effect, their halos dim. Once they leave the area, their halos vanish and they lose the 'anointed' status, and need to be reanointed in order to use the checkpoint.
Shakti can also choose to teleport any party members within range back to the checkpoint, he also needs to channel to do this.
As long as Shakti is within range of the checkpoint, he can teleport anywhere within the area of effect but still has to channel. If Shakti leaves the area of effect, the checkpoint collapses entirely.
Shakti can erect a checkpoint twice per day, and the checkpoint lasts a maximum of 12 hours. When he erects a new checkpoint, he needs to re-annoint party members, and the number of 'lives' is refreshed.
Teleports are limited to a fixed number of 'lives', currently five, which are shared between party members.
Talents and Skills:
Shakti is good at doing deft, detailed work with his hands and is a Gunpla hobbyist. Given that his parents have encouraged him to seek out learning opportunities, he's worked in a fancy bakery, and knows how to make delicate pastries. Among his many, exploratory experiences, Shakti has also been the drummer of a garage band with his friends. Shakti is also a casual gamer, which is why he has used gaming terminology do describe his unique quirk.
As cold water sprayed ShiZhen and Lyra, ShiZhen let out a shriek. But the terror of being hit by something cold dissipated quickly as her brain caught up and reminded her that water was harmless, and started figuring out any number of explanations. At least they weren't going to catch a cold; fogs had high heat capacity, the high humidity prevented evaporative cooling, and the fact that there was a fog meant that there wasn't any wind to induce wind-chill. What it did mean was that they were going to be very wet with little chance to dry as long as they remained in this fog. A bit of anger crept into ShiZhen's voice, "It's probably just some upperclassmen playing a prank on us, in fact, this whole thing might just be one big joke." Getting sprayed with water was such a juvenile, non-horror thing to happen that the creepy mood was more or less spoiled for ShiZhen. She might have been a little antsy before, but now she was just drenched and peeved. "Did you want to keep going, Lyra, or dO you want to just go back to our dorm?"
Catherine hovered silently through the forest, mainly to keep a watchful eye on any students to make sure they stayed safe, and to make sure they didn't take this as an opportunity to get hot and steamy. Of course, she could care less if her students were banging, but rules were rules, and she had to give off some semblance of enforcing them. Besides, she knew all too well how an immature romance could ruin a life.
Still, she carried a rope with her that she would occasionally tie to a tree and stick the free end down her shirt behind her neck. Then she would hover in place limply, pretending to be dangling from a noose when students approached. In the darkness it was impossible to tell that she wasn't really hanging and the subtlety of the scare was often more impactful than something that was immediately threatening or openly dangerous. And so she drifted, looking for students to scare as well as catch or aid.
Then, as if the impact from her hand against her forehead jumbled the facts in just the right way. "Uh sir? If you guys are all marines, how come nobody else has their uniforms on?"
"I-it's that thing, you know? Shore leave! That's right, we're on shore leave so we've been given permission to dress in civvies. I'm just a bit of a traditionalist, you know?" Handel stammered out, still trying to bluff his way through this, wondering if he should have played the part of a harsh Marine commander instead, and barked at these two until they left.
Ken looked over both of the marine soldiers, his squinted opening as large as diner plates when his gaze turned to the woman.
Taking another swig of something foul smelling from his gourd, then letting it hang by his hip, Ken's fingers opened and closed in a grabby motion. "Hey *hic* mishy. You kno-o-ow, it's alwaysh good to get *hic* exshamined for breasht cansher. I don't even char-R-rge. Whatsh-ya shay?" Ken did his best to wink seductively, but could only blink with both eyes somewhat out of sync. First the right eye, then the left. It was kind of disturbing.
Handel closed his eyes at the chemical stench wafting from Ken's mouth and silently prayed for strength and patience. Attempting to place both hands on the swaying drunk's shoulders, Handel turned back to woman with a look of apology on his face, "Please don't mind my doctor here. The execution of the greatest pirate in history is always a cause to celebrate, and my friend here sure does love to celebrate. But for HIS OWN SAFETY, I should lead him back to the brig, I mean, med bay." Handel then attempted to do just that.
Just posted. Sorry I haven't had much time to really sit down and make a decent post though. I also still haven't gotten around to getting a Catherine post up yet, but I felt ShiZhen was more important since someone is actually interacting with her right now.
@Kalleth, I'm sending Lyra and ShiZhen towards Jordan.
While ShiZhen was a little worried that she didn't see Jake at dinner, she enjoyed Lyra's company, and was glad that she was becoming friends with her roommate. But after such an event-filled day, ShiZhen was exhausted, and before she knew it, she had changed into her pajamas and was dozing off in bed. That is, until someone more-or-less barged into their room and woke her up, dragging her and Lyra out into the cold night for some strange campus ritual. ShiZhen had wanted to object a few times, but Lyra seemed to be going along with it, so ShiZhen did too. It wasn't until Lyra announced that she was awake did ShiZhen realize that this whole thing might have been a mistake.
"S-some upperclassmen dragged us out of bed for a 'Midnight Run', ShiZhen explained, incredulous that Lyra had made it out this far before actually waking up. "I think it's like a ghost thing? We're supposed to go towards the..." ShiZhen had forgotten, and without realizing it, had sort of just kept walking along the twisting path deeper into the forest towards a massive oak tree.
