Bio

I have been writing as a hobby for longer than you have been alive. I have been a regular member and roleplayer of no less than fourteen different online forums during that time (including the old RPG), five six eight of which no longer exist.

I was previously a regular on the Homestuck forums, but I became so sick of thread turnover there that I asked around and eventually found the Guild. Since joining, I have exclusively only participated in Advanced RPs. Before Mahz gave NRPs their own subforum, I used to be an NRP regular in the Advanced Subforum. I am a Guildfall survivor, and know/regularly write with a few others.

If you ask anybody who has written with me in previous RPs, they should tell you that I have a generally open schedule, I post regularly and in a timely fashion, and I never drop an RP once I join unless the thread dies. Some of them may tell you that I have extensive expertise within the realms of Biology, Psychology, and Physics, which I will make no effort to validate since there is no way I can provide hard proof of aforementioned alleged expertise to anybody over the internet (though I am happy to try and answer any questions you send my way).

My favorite fandom is the Myst franchise, which seemingly nobody other than me has ever heard of.

I was a Contest Moderator for the Writing Contests Subforum for just a little bit over two years. I wrote the Moderation Policy for that subforum and I ran a contest called the Twelve Labours; you can still go there and see all of them and the entries people wrote for them in the Contests Section and the Victory Archives.

I have been quadruple secret banned from the guild discord. That is not a joke.

@Cyclone That is beautiful, hopefully the trade profits will be too!

@Terminal What kind of incense do you have? They are a vital part of my religion but I prefer for my priests and shrine maidens not to get high during festivals.

<Snipped quote by Sini>

There should be some "NPC" city-states like they do in Civ 5 and some of them are literally run by criminals.

Ah, well, that's just it you see.

You may have noticed that 100% of the Fulmen Nati population is listed as being Effulgent (worshiping the foremost god of the Nati pantheon). The reason for that is because the Priesthood uses hallucinogenic incense that induces suggestibility in order to sway the masses. Combine that with charismatic Priests spewing out Inspiring Divine Mythos, and you've got a bunch of converts. Then multiply by thousands of years of religious heritage and cultural tradition.

The actual problem here is that it's the Apricor Scholars who make the incense, the Free Family wouldn't be involved. If you wanted access to this stuff, you need to play ball with the Priesthood. They're apathetic to other religions - they accept the existence of other pantheons and gods, but they are predominantly concerned with spreading the influence of their own. A bit of a gamble, yeah?
Hey, you have medicinals, I have Incense. There's some degree of overlap. I have no doubt your drugs have purely incidental health benefits.

So yeah, inferior in the sense that the priesthood has gunk with more tar, and everyone knows that kind of stuff is better.
The Kingdom of Thaga, which is still under construction, will be located in the south. Please drop by for all your hallucinogenic, stimulant and depressant needs! Also, please don't worry about your border villages. My elephants will only trample them once a year at most.

Fulmen Nati priesthood already has a corner on the Hallucinogenic market. They're not going to be pleased. :P

This calls for a Dope-Down.
Kuro, well-practiced in spotting dangers on the battlefield, had already started ducking behind the bar again the moment he saw the barrel of Walkin's pistol swerving in his direction. The bullets the doppelganger fired at the Rider found only air. Still clutching the steam canister, one finger precariously holding the trigger in place with the pin held in his off-hand. He cursed silently as he saw the ice spirit only barely being held back from slaying the doctor - and just in time to see Walkins come around the end of the bar. Holding the steam canister as he was, Kuro was in no place to close the distance or counterattack, especially not when Walkins' pistol wasn't out of bullets, and especially not with so many nominal allies serving as inconveniently placed bullet catchers.

The best move would have been to let Walkins escape with the girl. Neither of the children were the responsibility of anybody in the bar, and it would be best if the firefight were ended by their abrupt kidnapping rather than prolonged by granting them asylum. That Walkins would escape with the girl was inconsequential, at least to Kuro. He already had what he needed from her.

Before he could even settle back into his seat properly, two children quietly barged in and greased the barman's palm, which was interesting enough on its own - Kuro though, had much sharper vision than most of the others in the bar, and as the girl crossed the room he caught sight of a particular detail of her person - something he had never seen before. His eyes immediately shot to the boy to see if he had the same feature, but if he did, it was well concealed.
The Narrator, Page 2, Post 12

Kuro peeked over the bar counter, watching as Eli made a reckless charge at the doppelganger, supported by numerous spirits, while Ryza held another at swordpoint.

'There are more.' Kuro concluded as the girl was knocked away from Walkin's grasp. He supposed there MIGHT have only been the three Doppelgangers, but somehow he doubted the reality of the situation was so tidy. He lifted his finger from the trigger of the steam cannister, idly lobbing it into the center of the room.

"This farce is OVER." He declared loudly as the steam began to billow, thicker and heavier than sheet fog throughout the entire bar. "Everyone out, these doppelgangers will not harass us in the open daylight of our plaza."

Kuro was uncertain if anybody would listen, but even if nobody headed outside the statement would serve as sufficient misdirection of intent. Even unable to see a foot in front of his face, Kuro's keen senses gave him a distinct advantage in the new environment. Even now, he could feel the danger and violence rolling off of each combatant in the room likes waves, especially potent and concentrated around the pistol-wielding Walkins and Eli. A threat so massive, Kuro could have felt it even had he been deaf and numb on top of being blind - which only served to reinforce his notion that this battle was not one that would serve anyone's interests by being prolonged.

Unseen, he faded into the fog of battle, maneuvering through the confused shuffle of blinded individuals seeking support and vision like a snake slithering through the underbrush as he slipped one of his knives out from the sheath inside of his right sleeve. If more doppelgangers came in, they would find that mere resiliency to bullets and armor would not protect them from Kuro, poised to strike unseen from the fog.
Working on a post. Expect it up tonight.
Well the Fulmen Nati have a civil war already per se. There are five regional warlords, none of whom like each other and are constantly engaged in border skirmishes and raids with one another.
As described in the initial post, you have 40 points to distribute between the seven categories, with a max of 10 in each.

Also, it's designed that way to make things short and sweet - and to leave room for future RPs in the same vein, as Primal Conundrum suggested.

Also, I should probably emphasize that the IC Weeks are not IRL weeks. You can take as little or as much time as you feel is necessary to write. Within reason.
@Cyclone Then be prepared to be amazed by the power of Ryukyuan technology! Trade wise, don't worry about the pirate too much, the Empire has... ways of "dealing" with them, just be sure to fly a Ryukyuan flag next to your own on ships. If you don't, well we'll get the metal at any rate but not so sure about your own sailors.

Just be sure to send your ships South, past Vathcras, and not West, past Drastonia. It's a long route, and there's a significant complication along the latter route that would make a long trip even longer.
A'right, here are templates for Corporation and Mech Sheets, as well as rulings on the actual functions of each score.

Templates

If I can get chime-ins from the following people to confirm whether or not they are still interested, and whether or not they have any questions, I can start the OOC as soon as I'm sure there's at least three parties other than myself who want to participate.

Below is a basic description of the mechanics of how the RP will proceed. Keep in mind, although it is fairly structured, everything below is mostly guidelines and rules of thumb. I am perfectly open to experimentation, suggestions, and creative twists over the course of the RP. The rules here are more to give you a basis of how to proceed within the narrative framework of our story.

I mention, for example, how differences in opposing scores can affect and influence the outcomes of certain events in favor of the poster with the higher score. This does not automatically designate that poster as the winner. It will be up to you, as the posters, to construct a meaningful, collaborative narrative and to reach an agreement on the outcome of various Corporate conflicts. The scores are just there to provide framework. This means that the Troubleshooter will not always lose if Security knows they are there and if they don't have all the information they need, and that the smaller, less experienced legal team will not always fail.

How the RP will Work:

After submitting your Mech design, I will attach to it a set pricetag figure and a resource evaluation. The pricetag will represent what the Military Complex is willing to pay for each individual Mech your corporation produces, if your corporation wins the contract bid. The Military Complex will not buy as many mechs from the winning corporation if it is particularly expensive, so it is important that your mech is as cheap as feasibly possible. The resource evaluation will include how many and what kind of resources you need to build your mech, as well as how much time is needed in order to complete a working prototype. As the weeks progress and you build components of your Mech, you cannot retroactively change their design. If you have a change of heart and want to pursue a new mech design, you have to use the time remaining in the RP to design and build it from scratch. However, you are perfectly free to change the design of components you have not yet built, in which case, rival corporations with information on the previous design will not be made aware of the revision unless they move to gather new intelligence on the Mech.

The Bidding Race will take place over the course of 90 days. Each posting period will consist of a week, giving each poster 13 posts to act and prepare before the Live Combat Trial and the Final Battle.

Each week, every Corporation can receive a certain amount of raw materials and can complete a certain amount of work on their mech, dependent on their Logistics and Manufacturing scores.

Each week, every Corporation may pursue one Troubleshooting operation and one Legal action. Every corporation will, in addition to having to deal with their rival bidders, have to deal with a specific, contextually-tailored series of problems that will arise over the course of the race. These problems are designed so that, if left unaddressed, your corporation will not even be able to submit a finished project to the Military Complex.

The Corporations are all aware of one another, but will initially be unaware of the nature of their rivals' competing Mech prototypes. Each corporation is also nominally unaware of the Troubleshooting actions other corporations take, unless the Troubleshooter involved is caught or killed during their operation. As information is gathered by each Corporation, design specifications of the rival Corporation Mechs will be made available to the associated posters.

Each Corporation has key personnel associated with each score. In addition to being valuable viewpoint characters for the sake of our narrative, they are important for ensuring the smooth operations of the Corporation's Mech project, and for the final quality of the Mech prototype. Keeping them alive and in your employ is a priority.

In order to win, a Corporation must fend off interference by its competitors, address the problematic incident that arises during the biding race, ensure their Mech can pass the Live Combat Trials, prevail in the Final Battle, while being as cheap as possible, within a 90 day time limit.
