I feel like Myriad Reality is somehow the secret glue holding this entire site together

People like to nudge aside the fact that there's a level of commitment to hosting, and joining an RP. The majority of players don't have it in either case, regardless of how interesting an idea is.

I've been gone so long that I forgot what the status bar was like. It's like coming back to an old apartment, except it's not an apartment anymore, it's just two walls and a lot of heroine addicts.

The status bar serves one of three purposes. You can be pretentious, you can tell people about your personal problems, or you can be a smartass.

I'm looking forward to the new pokemon titles, but who the hell knows what they'll be this time.

My bet's on Pokemon Milk & Eggs.
From the creators of everyone's favorite series, Call of Duty: Eugenics.
HAHAHAHA, OH MY FUCKING GOD, WOW.

Sorry for being rude, but just, oh my god.
Haha, ok there, sport.

Oh my god, wow, have fun with that, #bye.
Feral Cove
3rd of Summer - 9:50 PM

"Dannisus," he said, nodding at Paric's request. He wasn't interested in dulling his senses. Paric could finish off his supply of alcohol if he wanted. It probably served more purpose with the Eldi anyways. "I collect and identify artifacts. It's a big part of my research, research on... Artifacts" He eventually brought his mumbling to a full stop and turned back towards the forest. Dannisus' tail whipped straight down. He rose his hand up and began to pick at the fur clumping loosely around his neck. He heard something. He'd experienced an unusually long pause in activity along Feral Cove outside of the two escapees interrupting his travels. But for something to make waves now made this already inconvenient experience even more troublesome. "I would love to get acquainted, believe me, I would, but, ehm, you see, there's something rather dangerous surfacing nearby. Perhaps we could speak more while on the move?" His right ear spun towards the east, along with the entirety of his head. It sounded big, and smelled rancid. Without further delay, he began to move toward the jungle, assuming that Ayer and Paric were quick enough to assume the worst. "Rhetorical!" the Myti hissed while pushing through bushes and leaves.

Baeshri Hills, West of Centaurus
3rd of Summer - 10:43 PM

Ellorei ceased the whirling winds with a gentle shift of her upper body until both Hyo and Daelin were visible once again. Noru moved over to Daelin and pulled him away from the Myti, who seemed perfectly content with her defeat. There were still ways to go about this without the leverage of a hostage. The priority was to conceal her group's intent, first and foremost.

"He's fine," Noru confirmed with one hand on the man's head, "Psychic magic. He'll wake up shortly. What should we do with this one?" Hyo hissed at Noru, covering his face with the spray of her saliva.

"You will let me go, or you will not see your ally," She threatened, "If I do not return to Sasha, Beret-girl will return to the earth as a corpse."

Leias, Kolo's Bobbet Stand
4th of Summer - 5:48 PM

Kolo chuckled to herself and swiped the money eagerly from the tabletop. "I know exactly where Lannissa's headed. Kilala's Tomb on the Feral Cost. Her brother's been heading to that place for the past month, every week, like clockwork." She slowly rose another bobbet from underneath the counter, one that was slightly fresher than the last, and motioned towards it. "A lucky Myti can make it there in less than a day. But with the monsters prowlin' around, dere's an elemendt o' dandger. Godda avoid 'em. Makes straidt trabel diffi-i-hooo" Another sneeze resounded. The spew from Kolo's nose barely missed the newest offering she'd placed before Ryio. While wiping her nose, she nodded. "Lani's strong. She'll probably fight her away there, like always. The only way to keep up with her would be by mount." Kolo sucked her snot back hard and reached above her stall to pull down a 'closed' sign. "Bobbet's are stale anyways, and It's late. If you want to follow after Lani, you'd need an escort, and something fast that won't toss you off its back in a hurry." She continued to gather things from behind the counter one after another. When her head popped back up, the Myti hesitated for a few moments, and then looked at Ryio with a reluctant desire to aid her.

"Do you like lizards?" She asked, abruptly.
It's profoundly pathetic how eager people are to add you if you play healer and have an even vaguely feminine username, even if you do poorly, jesus christ.
@Mobius

Sorry, I just find your position on 'winning' completely laughable. There were many points brought up about reforming Arena so that there are options which can allow more inclusive styles of play outside of the 'competitive' sector, which is absolutely flooded with arbitrary and nebulous rules. Judgement on competitive combat should be objective, but it cannot be done in such a manner due to the subjective nature of not only fictional writing, but fictional combat. whenever I think of Arena judgement, I compare it to death battle, pretty much entirely.

A great deal of focus on 'rules and regulations' is not helpful. All you're purporting is for Arena to do more of the same. If people don't want things to change, I don't care all that much. But you will continue to pertain to a niche that a great deal of role-players seem to find especially repulsive. The outcome there would ultimately be the result of Arena's culture, something that has persisted since pre-guild fall. Back in the days when I was especially active in Arena, there were plenty more threads with people who didn't care so much about winning as they did about the experience of combat. Those were the golden ages, even if there were still a ton of fuckboys who tried to abuse rules and the vagueness of RP to pull out victories. I should know, I was one of them. And I won a lot.

The idea that PVP engagements are only about winning is entirely shortsighted. What's even worse is assuming that Combat roleplay is only about fighting one another. While the primary focus of combat role play is combat, the scenarios and terms of engagement are not limited to a narrow view of this particular subsection. This pertains to 'competitive rule sets' as well. Rules in Arena and role play are nebulous restrictions that encourage a competitive atmosphere despite the inherent impossibility to make such an environment objective. Writing combat that can flow well and achieve some level of coherency does not need to be competitive though, and that's my point entirely.

The idea that winning is all that matters is absolutely toxic, even if there are viable competitive rules set up.

Do you not want people that want non-competitive combat role-plays around here? Do you want to keep them out? Are you focused on stagnating Arena even more? If so, Oh my god, wow, have fun with that, #bye.

I'm not particularly interested in a system that revolves around victories and 'champions' at all. It seems just as arbitrary as the current ranking system, to be perfectly honest. If the goal is to attract new players, and not simply to motivate existing players, I'm not sure how different this would be from a simple tournament.
