"Melanie, if you don't get up now, by Merlin I'll make you walk there!" The sixteen year old groaned loudly as her mother's shout roused her, and rolled out of bed unceremoniously to comb lazily through her hair and gather together the last few of her things that she hadn't packed the night before.

"Kindle, c'mon!"

she called out to her pet, who had been patiently waiting wrapped around her bed post. Grabbing her charmed bag which now contained all of her books and possessions, and slid down the bannister (much to the dismay of their house elf, Peony, who had just finished polishing it)
Melanie called out a hasty apology to the little wrinkled elf, skidding to a stop in the kitchen where her mother had laid the portkey letter on the dining table.

"I'm here, I'm here!"

she puffed, checking the time on the wall. 7:28, just in time. Rolling her eyes at her daughter, Mel's mother quickly exchanged a goodbye with her. She hadn't accompanied her daughter to RiverWing since her third year, but then again it wasn't really needed.

"Alright, stay out of trouble, young lady. I don't want to hear anything about you getting up to things you shouldn't."

"Oh please, mother." Mel scoffed, "Nobody's complained about Kindle yet, she always behaves and stays out of sight in class anyway."

With a final wave, she seized the letter as the portkey activated and steadied herself as it apparated her into the exit hall.

Slipping around a group of nervous looking pre-teens (must have been the new first years), she got into the sign in line and greeted a couple of the other students she recognised as being in her year. When it came to her turn to sign in she beamed at Professor Willfrey and greeted him politely, though didn't stick around too long-making an excuse that the line was awfully long and she wouldn't want to stall the others.

With a few nods to the other students as she passed them, she quickly made her way to the 3rd floor dorm and to her room. With a flick of her wand, she cast the unpacking charm her mother had taught her last year (it made unpacking a lot easier-and quicker!)

"Alright Kindle, pocket."

she instructed the snake softly in Parseltongue. Nodding her head in understanding, the corn snake slid into Melanie's robe pocket where she would be out of sight of the teachers and other students, and Mel made her way down to the dining hall to join the rest of the school for breakfast.

Oh, another question out of curiosity, just so I can establish how she should react when meeting them xD

What are we going for in terms of the general history between the Elven/Dwarven races? Are they on relatively amicable terms or are we going for the usual Tolkien-ish "hate each other's guts age-old feud" thing?

Name: Meliya Ardorion
Nickname: Mel
Gender:Female
Age: 2,160 (usual age I have her set as, but this can be adjusted/lowered if you usually work with lower age parameters for elves :P)
Physical Description:
A tall and slender she-elf of typical height for her kind (I'm not an expert on elvish heights but I would have a guess that they're usually somewhere between 5'8" and 6', though I can't back this up with any certainty so for this I think it's better to remain vague to say "average height" or "tall" or "shorter than usual" XD), appearing steady and strong in frame despite her slenderness. Blonde hair and pale ice-blue eyes typical of the rest of her kin, however her hair is rather distinctive in that it isn't straight as the rest of her kin's. Instead, Mel's hair forms distinctive, albeit loose waves. In the way of scars, she has received a fair few in her lifetime. Though many of them have faded, two still remain visible. The first and largest, a jagged line of pale pinkish-white raised skin, running from her right shoulder and diagonally downwards to stop at her opposite hip. The majority of this scar is generally well-hidden behind her clothing though the beginnings of it can often be seen at her collarbone just above the neckline of her attire. Her other significant scar is rather more obtrusive, spanning from her eyebrow and down across the bridge of her nose. Both are battle scars from her first real skirmish which she wears rather proudly.

Personality:
Mel is a witty, fairly sharp tongued and often sarcastic individual, she is wary of strangers and will take quite some time to trust most she meets, though those who have a child-like innocence about them seem to find her trust a lot easier. However her tough exterior does hide a soft and loving side deep down, it just takes a while to get to it.
Her sense of duty is unparalleled to most, and many a Mirkwood soldier who has served under her command has been known to describe Mel as "hard headed and as determined and foul-tempered as a starving wolf keeping hold of the last scrap of meat at mealtime". Once she has a job to do, she will not abandon it for any cause, no matter the consequences, until the task is completed.
Has somewhat of a way with words, but doesn't tend to do well in long political meetings. She is an elf of actions rather than words at the end of the day, and having to sit still in a meeting hall full of other individuals bores her to death, so she would rather avoid it! She does not take lightly to insults towards either herself or her family or kingdom, and unfortunately it doesn't take much to get her riled up. Mel is not unknown to take a swing or two at someone who overstepped their mark with her. Can be stubborn and is also not unknown to act first, think about consequences later, often landing her in sticky situations.
History:
Her mother is a well-respected healer within the kingdom, while her father is a trusted and high-ranking general. Mel had always had her father's fighting spirit, and indeed the elfling picked up her first weapon when she was knee-high to a dwarf, learning basic combat moves from her father who was all too glad to teach her to defend herself. When she came of age the two butted heads somewhat (due to his overprotectiveness of her, as she was their only child) as she expressed the desire to follow in his footsteps and train as a warrior rather than have the quieter (or rather, less dangerous) life of a healer like her mother. After much debate, in which her mother took her side and pointed out that if he had wished her to be a healer from the start, he should not have encouraged her to fight so easily, Mel's father finally agreed and her warrior training began. She breezed through her training with ease and was soon given a low-ranking command position; and sent out into battle for the first time where she received her first scars in the line of duty and her first promotion to Captain, whereby she would have command of her own unit. This is where we currently find her, though with one more thing to add. The mantra that had been drilled into her head over and over again by both her mentor and her father: "The only good Drow is a dead Drow". Will she believe it, or is she more likely to take a dark elf's character at face value if she met one? Only time will tell.
Weapons: Mel's primary weapons are a bow of dark finished ebony wood, and a rapier for close combat. Secondarily, she has a pair of fighting daggers, though she tends to favour her bow or rapier over these.

Name: Lady Meliya Ardorion of Achyn Vale; often referred to as "Mel" by those who she feels closest to
Physical Description: Tall and slender like many of her race, standing at six foot five inches with well-defined cheekbones and bright ice-blue eyes. Her hair is straw blonde in colour and stops just below her shoulders, with natural curls/waves through it.

Class: Mage
Equipment:

• Bow and quiver (Substituted for a staff, Mel fights using magic-imbued arrows, as she is most skilled in offensive spells, tends to favour cold/ice spells the most of all)
• Dagger (secondary weapon, not often used)
• Pack (for carrying supplies e.g. food, water etc.)
• Can't really be counted as "equipment" per se, but she has a hawk companion (most similar in appearance to our red-tailed hawk) named Ialon, who travels with her. He is used mainly as a scout to fly ahead and scope the area, however he will protect her using his talons should the need arise.

Bio: Her mother died during her birth due to complications, so Mel knows little of her except that she was a talented markswoman and good with a bow. She was instead raised by her father, who insisted upon keeping her reigned in and under constant guard, as the young she-elf had the same headstrong spirit as her mother and, being the last he had of her, feared Mel may meet a sticky end if she were allowed to pursue the part of a warrior. At first, he intended for her to remain with him in their household and she received the same general education as many non-warrioresque elven maidens, learning of history and politics (though to the politics she paid very little heed as it bored her to death). At 500 years of age it was discovered that Mel had a talent for ice elemental magic when she accidentally froze part of her father's library after getting particularly excited in one of her lessons. After this, her father allowed her to train as a mage and learn to use her talents to her advantage, through her training the she-elf just couldn't seem to get the hang of directing her magic through a staff, and when, in frustration her instructor suggested she try using a different weapon, such as a bow and arrows, they found she was most comfortable fighting with magic this way. When she graduated from her lessons, her father gifted her with her mother's old bow and quiver, which are to this day still with her, and her most prized possessions. After much nagging and persuading, Mel managed to convince her father to allow her to travel and see the world, as she grew tired of the repetitiveness of her life in the Vale and constant skirmishes with the nearby goblins, and this is how we find her currently as she travels to try and meet other races and get to know the wider world better.

May work an encounter with a vampire into the rp at some point to add the vampirism curse in, we shall see how it goes I guess x'D

Personality:
Sarcastic | Untrusting | Loyal | Sharp-tongued/snappy | Compassionate | Sensitive Untrusting of newcomers/strangers, but once she comes to know someone or think of them as a friend you will not find a better or more loyal companion. You stick your neck out for her, she will reciprocate, essentially. Rather sharp-tongued and snappish, which can surprise some given her more lady-like upbringing in her early life; Mel is never short of a sarcastic quip or remark. It's best to learn quickly not to take most of them to heart, she often can't help it, being not a particularly patient individual. Despite being sarcastic a lot of the time, this elf can still be sensitive and compassionate to the plights of others, and is always looking to lend a hand to those in need, even if she has a peculiar way of showing it at times

@Karos Fair enough, will do. She'd fight mostly with her magic tbh, it'd be magic-imbued arrows for instance that she'd use mostly, so it'd be tied to her magic in most instances, unless she was somehow blocked from using it with a binding spell or something x'D
