The Blacksmiths' Chronicles: Chapter 5; Iron and Innovation (Supposedly)

3 years PA (Post Arrival)

After his ship performed so well the others in the tribe started respecting him more, and his tower-home got a higher priority rating. Additionally they managed to find Iron ore on this island, and on other islands in this archipelago they managed to find coal. His home recently got finished to his specifications and it is nice to have a home of his own. Additionally it appears like this island in the capital. Since the discovery of the coal and the iron ore Olliver has been working hard on upgrading the technology of the island/island chain. Olliver had had to invent a forge capable of melting the iron, so that it could be cast or forged. They now have iron swords and daggers, and also some iron chestplates and such. Olliver is doing his best to refine the iron. Soon he thinks that he might have them sufficiently refined that he can use wrought iron, and make scale or possibly feather mail. The tribesman dont bother him when he is in his forge however, they respect the ideas and quality that emerge from it too much to disturb it and risk ruining the work.

However Olliver is wondering if there might be others who have been brought here, in other corners of the globe, and is thinking about trying to expand the sphere of influence in the area so that they will benifit from other countries innovations instead of being more stagnant. Additionally there have been some ladies in the village who have been dropping hints and trying to catch Ollivers eye. Unfortunately for them, in the past year Olliver has gained an apprentice, a few of them actually, they are all from blacksmithing families, and know their trade fairly well, but they need new training inorder to use iron to its fullest potential, and one of those apprentices is Alemeda, a lady of ~28, who grew up in the forge and learned better than her brothers and is slated to take over the smithy. She has a light olive skin tone, and has relatively short, dark hair (about shoulder length), due to it getting in the way in the smithy before. The most odd thing about her appearence are her eyes, most people here have dark brown eyes, but hers are of the most esquisite green, like unto an emerald. And it is she alone who has caught Ollivers attention.

Honestly not really, they are more of a merc, they just wont do anything targeting children, and sometimes animals depending on the situation

fear threatened to engulf her mind. it lusted to seize, and take away what rationality and thinking capacity she held.
but it wasn't fear she had to worry about.
the garuma.
the knightly personation of the white order. five, all standing tall against what beckoned to threaten their regime.
fearsome in all, especially cowardice.
they wouldn't run.
hasgard, and his peoples were hunting for her head. eton, and budica accompanied him. a mere precautionary measure.
they were certain hasgard would bring back her severed head on a trophy platter, to laugh and spit at.
“hasgard.”
she rips an arrow from her knee, with a flinch.
“you know, pride will only get you so far.”
“pride?” he shakes with conviction, eyes bulging under his heavy brows. his aged hands clench, around his worn sword.
“pride? my days are numbered.
i hold no pride.
i am unlike you, unlike your impulsive and revolting tendencies.”
“that is something you acknowledge with fearlessness. i am surprised,”
“every human does. you are not human.”
she held her breath. a pain in her chest grew, grew to an abnormal amount. it was not the wound.
“what have you done?”
he glances about, his face contorted from disgust to anger fairly quickly. his emotion would surely take hold. hasgard was an furious man who held angry tendencies.
when he'd lash out, he'd make a mistake.
bodies of villagers were strewn about, blood coating her hands and mouth.
at her feet, lay a disembowled man.
“I was… peckish. apologies.” she smiles, fangs glistening. “you will not die painlessly.”
she did not doubt it.
she did not even respond, for he was right. right that she would die.
right that it would be painful and by her basic instincts she feared it. to an extensive degree, unbeknownst to her consciousness.
he knew that.
she was wired like an animal, afraid of humanly vices, humanly emotion.
sin only captivated her which made her all the more detached, all the more less human. dehta had made sure of this.
his grasp was firm and what he willed she carried out without question.
neither eton nor budicia spoke.
it was as if they were so angry, they could not speak.
her nails dug into her palm. how… insensitive. how dare they not voice themselves?
it was quite the guilty pleasure, to hear one talk sullenly or stumble on words with tears.
she got off to the despair, to the cries of mercy. they were nothing of the sort.
she resolved to make them speak. although it was their choice and a fault of character that silence only made her chest heave and teeth grind.
“hasgard. shall we dance?”
he unsheathed his own sword, as his accompanying force mirrored the same.
“as you see fit,” he spat.

the sickly smell of her innards reached his throat. it singed his tongue and burnt away whatever was left of his rationality. her lifeless body seized, bile rising in his throat. he didnt bother to hold it in and vomited on the floor, the vision sickening him. his puke was entangled with blood and spit, and before he could expel more inayata pulled him out of the dream, speaking calmly as if drool wasnt seeping from the corners of his mouth.
“there is a way…. i can allow you… to love her again.”
“love??” his mournfulness seeped over his boiling anger.
“...yes.” it sounds uncertain, less confident now. the chittering of its teeth had stopped, unsettlingly.
“i can bring them all… back to you. i am not only of pestilence and war, but rebirth. the shedding of blood in mass brings… rebirth.”
he didn't think he could. the state her body was in was enough to make him collapse.
to see her, alive? he'd go mad.
“ your glimpses… wont go away. unless you let me make them go away.”

They are an orphan, raised in an orphanage. THey were bullied and abused, and they ran away from the orphanage after they awakened their shadow powers

because they killed the proprieters of the orphanage on accident after they went after a ~4 yr old new arrival

on the subjust of how they became interdemensional, it was several years later and they were in the shadow corridor, and they went through a branch that felt weird and when they left the shadow corridor, they were in a different deminsion (the shadow corridor is how the shadow travel appears to him)
