The first thing you notice about Alba is how her hair is always on point. As a hair stylist, she considers her hair to be a portray of her skills, which is why she has dyed it black, rose gold, gray, blonde, brown, brown with blonde highlights… You name it. Her nails are also always perfectly manicured, and she prides herself on both these aspects. Her hair is currently dyed brown with a caramel blonde, and though she mostly sports her hair straight it is naturally curly like most Dominican women. Face-wise, Alba has a pair of big brown eyes that are the windows to her every emotion, framed by a pair of neatly plucked and arched eyebrows. She has a wide nose, defined jawline and a pair of naturally full and luscious lips that would make Kylie Jenner jealous. Her clear complexion is one she maintains via a strict face care regimen, and that lovely light brown color of her tan skin is the blessing given to her by her Hispanic heritage.
Alba’s body is one of her biggest insecurities, as it is so different from the majority of the beauties of the Beverly Hills High School population. Thick thighs, big breasts, wide hips, big, round ass (one of the few things she’s proud of) and a much-dreaded belly that is the bane of her existence. Though she has lost the old pudginess of her childhood days, it is still not enough to make her be anything less than plus-sized. In order to hide the abdomen fat, Alba chooses to wear high-waisted bottoms and shirts/blouses that are flowy from the breast line down in case she can’t wear said bottom type. Alba’s sense of style is “budget-friendly fashionable with a hint of Latina”, and the only item she splurges on are jeans, because God only knows the struggles plus-sized women go through until they find that pair of jeans that fits them like a dream.

At first glance, Alba Edén may seem like a quiet, shy and reserved young woman. Given the fact that she is a foreigner to the United States, she tends to avoid any sort of interaction with most people at school in hopes that her invisibility will protect her from bullying, racism or any awkward situations. But once you manage to win her trust, you get to know the real Alba: fun, loyal, dynamic, caring and a hell of a good listener. Alba, like a true Latina, is a sass queen that doesn’t take shit from anybody. If you’re her friend and need advice or an opinion about something but want a completely honest opinion, you can be sure that Alba will tell you exactly what she thinks about the situation no matter how brutal it is. To some, this blunt honesty can put them off, but Alba’s true friends and her family know she doesn’t mean to cause any hurt with her words.
Her struggles with self-esteem issues and bullying since childhood has taken a toll on young Alma, to the point where she is constantly putting herself down and comparing herself to other women because of her weight. Because of this, she is skeptical about any sort of male attention and tends to push them away, thinking they’re probably just using her, lost a bet, or want to humiliate her somehow.

Although Alba may seem cold and detached at first, underneath the timid, reserved surface lies the real her: a strong, passionate woman with a great capacity for strong devoted love. History:

Dear Diary:
A new school year in this country awaits me: thankfully my final one! Seeing as I just bought this diary, I’ll start it out by writing a bit of my story, so you can see how I came to be. My name is Alba Edén Santiago Ramos, a 17-year old girl from ‘República Dominicana’. Dios, Patria, Libertad! I was born on September 20th of 1998 to Alberto Santiago and Lourdes Ramos, and I have the blessing of being the only child of the couple. I grew up in Suero, a small ‘barrio’ nearby Punta Cana: one of the biggest tourist cities in the Dominican Republic. Both my parents worked in hotel maintenance, which means we were one of the lucky families in the ‘barrio’ that could afford at the least food on the table and access to electricity even if we lived in a two-bedroom shack made out of a cement base and zinc boards and slept on old cots. I spent my childhood in ratty, secondhand clothing (the few ‘good’ items that I owned were always tucked away for ‘special events’), running around my ‘primos’ and getting into all sorts of adventures until I was old enough to go to school.

It was at school, at the tender age of five and in Kindergarten, where I learned the hard way just how mean and cruel children can be. Not even a month after I had started that I became one of the bullies’ preferred targets due to my messy, unruly hair and weight. Though no one in my family ever called me fat, I was a pretty chubby, pudgy kid compared to the rest of my classmates (especially the girls). I still remember the names they used to call me: Pig, Cow, Witch, Fat-ass, Disgusting Fattie… They still haunt me every day to this day. I had always been an outgoing, happy child, but all the bullying eventually turned me into an extremely unhappy girl who only wanted to be liked by her peers. It was too often when I would come crying home from school, telling Mami of all the names the kids would give me while I sobbed on her lap and expressed how I hated school and never wanted to go there again. After so many years of taking their shit, there came a point in which I was just so fucking done already. In seventh grade, this girl went ahead and called me a name I’d heard many times before, but for some reason I was just so done with everything that day I snapped. I got into a heated argument with the girl that eventually turned into a fist fight. They had to pull me off her, and even though I hadn’t done her much damage it was enough to let all the other bullies know I was not taking their shit anymore. Though I got suspended, Mami was proud of me for finally sticking up to myself. But even if the constant teasing had stopped, it had taken its toll on me. Their cruelty made me extremely insecure, self-conscious and convinced that I will never get anything good in life because of my weight.

Anyway, back to my story!

The day I finished eighth grade, Mami surprised me with the news that with the last deposit Papi had sent us we finally had enough money to buy the plane tickets that would send us to California. He had illegally moved to California and started working on a factory when I was 4 in hopes of raising enough money to legally get us out of the DR, and after so many years he had finally raised his goal. We would be reunited as a family after nearly ten years!!! Mami and I were so happy that day… We cried our eyes out as if someone had died. We called Titi Lucy, and I remember she cried as hard as we did too. We were all so happy… This was our opportunity at a better life: our miracle.
Since we already had all documentation ready, we moved to California two weeks after I finished eighth grade. When we landed, I was shocked. The urban contrast was so different from my little barrio in the countryside, but when we got to Titi Lucy’s apartment another crying session was done. We had safe electricity in all the apartment, reliable water service, our own rooms in a place that wasn’t made out of zinc boards and cement… We even had BEDS!!! I actually had a bed to sleep on! Titi Lucy was incredibly happy to have us there, and was even kind enough to hire us to work at her salon as a way for us to start building our new California life. That night, when Papi arrived at the apartment, our family was finally reunited for the first time in nearly ten years. We cried, laughed, exchanged stories… We had many hopes and dreams for our future.

Then, it happened...

About a month after we arrived at Cali, we got a call from the Department of Immigration: the factory Papi worked at had been raided by Immigration after someone had snitched that they had a few undocumented immigrants working for them, and he was to be deported back to the DR in the next seven days. Mami and I were heartbroken... All of those hopes and dreams of our whole, happy family living the American Dream were shattered. Coño, I’m even crying as I write this… Papi is still there in the DR, and since the day of that call we have been working endlessly to legally bring him back here with us: his home. My biggest dream is that he’s able to attend my high school graduation. Anyway, it was this what made me so paranoid about deportation and people finding out I’m from the DR: I think they’ll be racist pendejos about it. It’s obvious people will know with just one look at my face, but if I stick to my plan of living in the shadows of high school for just one more year it will be done and over. Although I have a few people I can say I have had a friendly relationship with (like my faithful client Audrey Huntsberg, sweet Josie Thompson and my favorite geek Niles MacMillan), that’s as 0far as I get in terms of friends. I have made it my mission to go through high school without attracting attention to myself: and I have been doing a hell of a job.

So… Let’s wait and see what surprises my Senior year has in store for me.

Jocelyn is one of the sweetest, gentlest girls one could ever meet. In JoJo, you find an outgoing, friendly and fun girl whose loyal to you until the very end. She always sees the good in everyone and everything, and tries her hardest to make those around her happy. Josie can be super talkative (but never in that persistent, annoying way) and given that she has general knowledge about most subjects can easily blend in with every crowd (except A-listers, because most of them scare the poor girl).She's excellent at listening and giving advice even when she hasn't faced the situation first-hand. Apart from all the qualities mentioned above, Josie has a very caring nature that makes her perfect for her babysitting job, which she does with incredible pride. Kids love her and the goofy things she does so they can all have fun and not be bored. She avoids using swear words and though she is friendly to everyone tries to avoid hanging out with people that may cause her trouble.

On the down side, Josie's a gentle soul that's very easily hurt due to very sensitive nature. She's more prone to bursting into tears of frustration than fighting back in the midst of an argument. However, she won't stand quietly if she sees any form abuse on others. Though it isn’t obvious, she has a tendency to overthink things because she's afraid of doing the wrong thing and disappointing others or herself.

History:

Jocelyn Jade Thompson was born on February 18 of 1996; the third child of businessman Henry Thompson and nurse Judith Thompson. She grew up in a high-middle class neighborhood in the outskirts of a small New Jersey town around her twin brothers Jonathan and James. The three shared incredible times together, and grew up to be inseparable. Eventually, Henry and Judith added little Julia to the family when Josie was 4, and she was over the moon about having a sister to play with. And to finalize the family, Julius made his entrance to the world when Josie was 6. All was well in the family until Jocelyn started high school. Henry, who spent a fair time away from his family because of his line of work, began to slowly start drifting away from them. This caused many arguments throughout the years, until by the time Jocelyn was in her sophomore year they had separated and were working on getting divorced. This caused Jocelyn to become very sad, seeing as she hadn't wanted things between them to end like this. Of course, it didn't take long for her to realize that sometimes things work better apart than together, and she eventually accepted the news.

A month after finishing her sophomore year of high school, Henry and Judith's divorce had been finalized. Henry was moving to Toronto, where he'd gotten an excellent job position, and Judith was left with custody of all five siblings. As a parting gift to his children, Henry gave them the small California beach house in which they used to spend their holidays in. Since they couldn't afford to live in their old place due to Judith not having enough income on her own, they were forced to relocate from New Jersey to California during the summer before Jocelyn's junior year. Judith quickly found a job in the local hospital, and the twins did the same. Jocelyn took onto babysitting to help her family and be able to look after her younger siblings while her mother works. This was a big change for the Thompsons, but they managed to quickly adapt to these changes like troopers.

This bumps on the road only made the Thompson kids stronger and more thankful for everything they have. James and Jonathan are super protective of their first baby sister, and Jocelyn's the same regarding all of them. She also looks up to her mother for her hard work and all the love she continues to give them even after these difficult times. She has no hard feelings towards her father, and keeps constant communication with him. After all, she's his first little girl.
