Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

Fio Mal-Rai

Fio straightened as her servant explained everything he could. Well, that was frustrating. Not even Caster could discern what the circle actually did. Well, he could tell it was a bounded field, but beyond that there wasn't much else he could say. And at the moment, Fio had to agree with him. She couldn't disable it, not without knowing more about it, and attempting to do so now could very well lead to the activation of some kind of trap. Needless to say, it wasn't the kind of risk she liked taking. She'd work up a bit more knowledge and then tear the thing down, whatever it was. When Caster brought up the desire for some kind of base, well, that made plenty of sense, right? Caster wasn't exactly the direct combat kind of class.

"Yeah, sounds like a pretty good idea to me," she said, turning to face him. "Anyone who summons the Caster class would have to be an idiot not to let them build up their workshop, right? Regardless of what some people say, I'm no idiot and I'm going to win this Grail War."

Folding her arms across her chest, she contemplated what she knew about the city's layout. "We've got a few pretty good options. The obvious one's to go for the biggest concentrations of leylines in the town. Those are the places the Grail might descend. It's either going to be on the outskirts of the forest just outside Redrock, in the burnt out mansion, or on the site of the original town hall."

Saber

Saber paused for a moment, and turned entirely to face her Master. The lacquered armor rattled as she did, her gaze fixing on the girl before she approached quietly, walking closer and closer until she was directly in front of her Master. She looked up, slightly. The difference in their heights was not huge, but Saber was definitely the shorter of two in stature. This mattered little to the black-haired Servant in any case. What was truly important was that they settled this matter quickly and proceeded on to scouting the area and familiarizing her with the battlefield they would be conducting war in.

"This matter is a part of my service to you," she began, fixing her gaze directly into her Master's eyes, her expression set to convey the stern and serious nature of this matter, "Kishinami-dono, even if you are somehow incapable of seeing the importance of this, I must reflect well upon you. Especially as you have not reflected well upon yourself. Please select my outfit so that we may proceed."

Her decision made, Saber would remain standing there until her Master agreed.

The Overseer

The overseer looked up from her seat. She was still plenty hungry, but she focused on what she was doing for the moment. The blue-haired girl was actually quite an interesting selection for the overseer of this Grail War, but undeniably a logical one given her unique capabilities. Her blue eyes traveled over the nun and her Servant for a moment as she sat back. So this was a Servant...? He was different from the entities she had previously encountered, though there was one she knew of that he seemed to bear some kind of vague similarity to...

"So, you're registering?" she asked.
Saber is just going to have to insist harder now.
Noel Vermillion, oh now there's a bird why is there a huge bird

Noel stared in shock for a few moments. Bolverk... it wasn't set to be lethal, she wasn't trying to kill her! And now it had torn apart that weird fuzzy thing everyone seemed to hate... Quickly Noel backed up, trying to get her bearings. The girl was regenerating, but it was clear that her body wasn't very strong from what she could tell... that... that other girl had punched right through her! But she had all that black stuff inside her... Swiftly, Noel did her best to try and keep her in her sights, but then there was that swirling storm of sand... Noel stepped back again. She had to keep trying to arrest her, it was her duty, she had to...

For a few panicked moments, she stared in shock at the enormous bird that emerged from the sandstorm. She stepped back, her heart hammering in her chest, as it set its sights on her and swooped towards her. Bolverk keeping her calm, Noel remembered herself and dove to the side, feeling the air rush past her as she rolled across the hot ground and steadied herself on her feet. It... it was really big... and scary, but... if she could get it out of the air, maybe...?

A-aiming for the wings! That might do it!

Snapping Bolverk up, Noel took a deep breath. Both pistols swiftly were trained on the bird as she took aim and fired off two shots with a flare of light and a crack, trying to hit its wings.

Anno, The Power of Song

Anno took a step back. And another. Her entire body was quaking with fear. She'd seen Kyubey and rushed in to kick the little bastard but now... now there was... that enormous bird, and the girl was filled with horrible black tar, and... and she couldn't do anything to help. Everything was happening like this and there was... there was nothing she could do. What if someone got hurt? Or... or worse? She wouldn't be able to help anyone at all... Stepping back further and further, away from the battlefield, all the brunette girl could do was watch in fear as the battle escalated. And yet, beneath all the fear, the worry, there was something new... Even as she watched how the girl seemed to simply regenerate from all harm, and how the massive bird swooped down to attack, and the fear grew, something else grew with it. There was... a song? Faintly, inside Anno's head, there played a small tune, one she'd never heard before, a soft, simple chain of notes...

Even as she slid to her knees on the dusty ground, Anno felt herself reaching into her pocket, and grasping it in her hand. She drew it out, the little gem on a string. It almost seemed to glow. In the palm of her hand, the necklace was pulsing with light. Was it... was this...?

... Of course. A song.

Anno's grip tightened on the gem as she rose to her feet shakily. That was it, wasn't it? That's what this thing was. And if it worked... if she was right, then she could...

There was only one way to find out.

The words came to Anno's lips almost as a natural progression of the song playing in her head.

"~In light, the silence ends...~"

The necklace flared brightly, and golden light engulfed her. And she could feel it, even as she shut her eyes. Her clothing vanishing, only to be replaced with the varying layers of armor and clinging underlayers, overlaying each other to form the outfit that constituted what she would wear in battle. It really was what she thought it was. Opening her eyes, Anno saw the rushing lights all around her as a golden rod formed in front of her, a brilliant silver blade projecting from the tip to form a long-hilted sword. She grasped it in one hand, her fingers clutching the metal, as the lights faded away.

She didn't know what she was doing. But Anno knew, now, that she could help.

This was her Symphogear.
Hmm, let's see how to do my next post, I can reply for at least Noel...
Rika folded her arms across her chest in irritation. The elf girl, Nova, had taken issue with what she'd said. What, did she want to go off and be an idiot and eat some poison mushroom that would get her killed? Rika contemplated downgrading her status from 'someone who doesn't want to be an idiot' to 'total moron', but decided to retort in a different manner from that.

"Yes, because I just had so many other options," she replied, her voice dripping with sarcasm as her blue eyes narrowed at the other girl. "Because when you wake up alone and suddenly have a snake tail instead of legs from the thighs down, you're clearly in a position to be choosy and ignore the only people who might be able to help you."

Turning away from Nova with a huff, Rika's attention turned to the strange red line. Well, that was... ominous, to say the least. It seemed like a pretty resoundingly awful idea to attempt to cross something like that until they knew what it was. It certainly didn't seem to be natural as far as Rika would tell, and she didn't like it one bit.

"Going over that red line towards the creepy whispering in the forest is frankly one of the worst ideas I've heard all day. And besides, it would probably provide cover, but it'd e pretty easy to sneak up on us through all those trees."

Saber

With her Master's prompting, Saber immediately set about emptying the drawers. Each outfit was examined, neatly folded, and placed upon the bed in turn. For the black-haired had no intention of making a decision for herself. While certainly, she was not lacking in independence, this particular matter was tied to her desire to be of service. One who serves a Master must be presented in a way that is of benefit to that Master. Her manner of dress would reflect on her Master, would it not? Certainly, her nature would not be exposed in public, but at the same time she was still serving her Master and therefore it was only appropriate for her to be dressed in a way that was under her Master's consideration. This was, Saber felt, a basic portion of her services.

So, once every single drawer was completely, totally empty, and all the clothing was neatly laid out and folded on the bed, Saber turned towards her Master.

"Kishinami-dono," she began, "While in most circumstances my clothing would be determined by my own decisions, it is important that I reflect well upon you. Please, select my manner of dress."

Fio Mal-Rai

Well, this was uneventful. It seemed most of the Masters had guessed that engagement on the first night was not the best idea, at least where they could potentially be seen. Fio couldn't really complain, she had figured all of this into her plan. The entire reason she took these routes was because they were covered. But still, she could have at least seen something fishy on the way to the bookstore. Some kind of lead towards the other Masters. But no, aside from sparse civilians, there was nothing in particular that seemed out of the mundane, ordinary-...

Wait.

Fio stood rigid for moment, then slowly turned towards her right. There, in the darkness of the alleyway, there was the faintest of glows, a barely-present light that was perceptible only to a magus. There. That was her lead. Without hesitation, she sprinted into the alleyway, coming to a halt only when she drew close enough to identify the glow. It was a sigil, a circle encoding the processes of some form of thaumaturgy inscribed on the brick wall. Narrowing her eyes, Fio knelt down beside it. Certainly, no-one would place such a thing without some sort of intent behind it, and it was unlikely any magus but one of the Masters here would attempt such a thing. However... what kind of magecraft was this? Her attempts at analysis ended in failure. Something about this sigil was strange, strange in a way that Fio did not like.

"... Caster, can you identify this? There's something strange about it, I can't determine what the magus who inscribed it was attempting."
Well, she's a vampire, so I'd say dark. ^^; ... The whole world is pretty much dark stuff, but just... not all evil. Since Nox is based on horror from all across the world.

... Varyingly anthropomorphized in some cases given Queen Tepes and her maids, but yeah.
Well... she's a very, very old royal vampire, and the daughter of this world's version of Vlad Tepes/Dracula. Due to her nature, though, she's remained a child permanently. She's hired a truckload of maids to care for the castle and also instigated some reforms like shutting down the torture chamber her father ran and a variety of other things. She also imports a lot of stuff from other worlds, like her huge TV.
Noel Vermillion, Oh God What is Even Going On

There were suddenly a whole lot of other people. Way too many people, in fact. One of them kicked the little fuzzy thing and... and a lot of people really hated the little fuzzy thing. Noel almost questioned why... but then... then it said a lot of really terrible stuff! It was being really mean, no wonder people hated it! Luckily, someone else was already protecting the girl... which meant Noel could focus on the perpetrator. It looked like even really nasty injuries weren't a problem for her... but... but... Noel couldn't just stop because of that... she'd hurt that old man, she had to get arrested! The kind of scary-looking scaley girl suddenly managed to throw the blonde into the fuzzy thing, and Noel took her chance to make a sprint towards the downed criminal before she could recover. She had to be subdued first... and it might take a lot if she could recover from stuff so easily...

But with Bolverk keeping her steady, Noel had to whatever she could to arrest her!

As she drew close, standing over the perpetrator(W-was her name Wendy like the fuzzy thing said? Well... th-that didn't matter right now!), one of the duel pistols snapped foreward.

"I... I said I'd use force!"

With that, provided the girl hadn't moved, there was a crack of gunfire as Noel pulled the trigger. And then she pulled it again. And again. And again.

Each blast rang out repeatedly, over and over, a chorus of gunfire.
Saber

Regarding her Master for a moment, Saber firmly shook her head. Yes, spirit form was accessible, if absolutely necessary. However, there was no desire within her to use it. If she had to, for her Master's sake in order to conserve prana, she would. However, there were no extenuating circumstances that would make such a move necessary at this time. Indeed, she was receiving prana and her Master did not seem harmed by this fact. Saber absolutely did not want to utilize spirit form, because then she would be hiding away from her Master. Even if most people had no idea of her nature(as required by the parameters of the Grail War), she wanted her service of the girl to be clear. It was the entire reason she had been summoned.

"No," the black-haired swordswoman said, folding her arms across her chest as she stood in front of her Master, "I will not utilize spirit form unless absolutely necessary in the event that you must recover a large amount of prana. I do not wish to hide myself while in your service. Even if I must be disguised, that is still better than being invisible."
