I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

... okay, think I need to restate that this is a setting where magic and the supernatural and advanced technology is not really a secret. Youkai walk around in public, many shrine maidens and stuff know onmyodo, that kind of stuff.
Unlike my other urban fantasy setting, there doesn't really need to be these vast organizations issuing licences and keeping stuff secret.
