Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

Any time anyone posts anything for the setting I'll slide it into the OP!
  • Name: Koyuri
  • Age: Says she's 18. She's 4'9/144 cm and small, she could not be. Or she could be. It's hard to tell. She doesn't appear to be a child under 13, however, though she does look young. If pressed, she's likely to say she doesn't remember.
  • Gender: Female
  • Race: Human
  • Appearance: Koyuri has white hair, blue eyes, and extremely pale, almost paper-white skin. Her dress is black and white, with a red bow in her hair.
  • Personality: Koyuri is friendly to a fault, ever curious and inquisitive about her surroundings. Unfortunately, this is combined with an extreme naivete and trusting nature. Without someone to help guide her along, she is likely to believe almost anything told to her within reason. She would believe, perhaps, that there is a law placing a tax on all sweets. She would not believe that shoes are actually evil monsters, or something entirely nonsensical. At least without sufficient evidence. Koyuri possesses a deep adoration for food of all kinds, provided it's good, and will eat absolutely any good food offered to her, often completely ignoring pricing until it's too late. She is a terrible liar and as a result cannot even begin to keep secrets. She is generally terrible at hiding anything. However, she enjoys meeting new people and generally has a sunny disposition. At the same time, Koyuri is quite easily embarrassed or flustered. An outside impression of her may be that she looks like she could not possibly survive in the real world, and that's before considering that she is often absolutely clueless about the way the world works in general. However, beneath all of this is a terrifyingly efficient markswoman who unhesitatingly draws her weapon whenever she believes it is necessary, particularly to defend others. Speaking of which, she is quite attached to her enormous rifle and is very hesitant to part with it.
  • Skills: Koyuri is utterly without any skills that would seem useful for day-to-day life. Again, it's easy to get the impression she would be incapable of surviving on her own. Don't try to make her cook, that's for sure. However, she is an inhuman marksman capable of hitting a rapidly moving target without bracing herself while standing. While she can easily lift her weapon, Koyuri is otherwise rather useless physically. However, she can apply her incredible marksmanship to other weaponry.
  • Abilities: Koyuri has enormous mana reserves in order to fuel her wide variety of spells that, in combination with her magitech rifle, make her an absolutely deadly ranged foe. In terms of her spells, she possesses numerous anti-infantry and anti-vehicle magical spells. Among these are spells to make bullets pierce more solid targets, spells to coat a bullet with expanding barriers, and spells to convert her bullets into destructive waves of mana.
  • Equipment: Koyuri's only notable equipment is an enormous case that she can lift seemingly without effort. On it is a magic circle, identical to one marked upon her back and on her favorite dress. This acts as a form of identification, making it impossible to open the case if you do not have the magic symbol on you in some fashion. Within this case is an enormous rifle, a full 182 centimeters long, measuring considerably longer then Koyuri herself is tall. The prototype for a cancelled model of sniper rifles, the Styx III is equipped with a scope and fires huge 15 centimeter bullets. However, its true power is in its magical capabilities. Feeding off of the users' mana reservoirs(in such enormous amounts it was deem impractical unless the user had truly ridiculous mana reserves, which Koyuri does indeed possess), it can be used to cast devastating offensive ranged spells. Even without the magical function, the firepower of this rather absurd weapon can blow soft targets apart and tear through non-reinforced metal. Its weight also makes it impractical, but due to Koyuri's impressive mana reserves it can be lightened easily for use. The recoil is such that on a smooth surface, standing, and without bracing herself, Koyuri is sent sliding backwards across the ground for a meter or so.
  • Brief History: Koyuri finds it difficult to remember many things past roughly a half a year ago. Prior, she recalls being trained by an older man, receiving a rifle described as "useless to anyone but someone like you". Beyond that, she finds it difficult to recall her past, though she feels some level of familial affection at recollections of the old man. She also recalled her name, Koyuri. For a few days, she wandered rather aimlessly through the Laake town of Aiche, until she encountered what she thought of as very nice men who just wanted to help her carry some things. Through a dark alley. While saying she looked like she was pretty rich. It's likely she would have made a grave mistake if not for the intervention of the woman she now accompanies, who goes by the name of Sherry. She's oblivious to the fact that Sherry believes she would legitimately be incapable of surviving on her own, and also to the impact her appetite has had on the woman's wallet. Currently they are about to board one of the first airships to travel between territories once held by the Empire after the war...
@ACHTUNG: Oh right, from what I can tell you're accepted.

  • Brief History:
Inside the convenience store, the tentacles hissed, black smoke spewing from the points that the knives struck. Thrashing, the tendrils attempted to break free and regain their full range of movement, but they could not pull away from the blades keeping them stuck to the floor and walls. At least, they couldn't pull away yet, there was no telling how long it would take for the tentacles to manage to yank themselves free.

Still, it was likely there would be an ample opportunity for escape.

Akane barely had time to realize just how fast the tendril was coming for her when everything around her seemed to warp, somehow, and then she found herself in another girl's arms, eyes wide. It was Copenhagen Star, she'd intervened to keep the tentacle from hitting her! For a few moments, she could only sit there, wide-eyed, as she was in the arms one one of many girls she considered herself a fan of. Indeed, she found it difficult to speak.

"... H-H-Hi!" was all she managed for a few moments, until she realized that the other magical girl had asked if she was alright. "Oh, ah, ah-hah, um, I'm fine! Fine! It's just... I... er..."

Akane shook her head. No! There were people in danger. It wasn't think time to get too nervous about speaking to a magical girl! She was a magical girl now too, wasn't she?! Swiftly, she raised her sword, watching as the tentacle she had cut thrashed about. It soon enough fell limply to the side, black smoke pouring from the severed tip. The creature shrieked and hissed... So that meant that it had to be weak to fire! Before she could even voice this, however, it became clear that Copenhagen Star had already come to the same conclusion! Just as expected of her!

"R... Right!" Akane replied, nodding firmly. Right! Now... ranged attack, ranged attack... Something really direct, like...!

Thrust her sword forward, the fire still coursing up the blade seemed to build slightly.

"Dragon Flame!" she cried, unaware of how her tail was twitching as she did. Or, for that matter, that she even had a tail. The fire erupted from her blade and surged forward, immediately catching the tree in the vacuum-tentacle alight.

The reaction was almost instantaneous. Fire burst through the dark flesh of the Negari and ate away at it, the shrieking creature immediately raising its tentacle and dropping the burning tree to the concrete below. It had really hurt it!

The blob that had been sheared off of the rest of the creature scuttled down the wall. Akane thought she caught sight of it from the corner of her eye, but then, abruptly, it was gone as if it had never been there.

There wasn't much time to think on that, however, when another tentacle came sweeping towards both Copenhagen Star and herself. This time, she was quick on the draw, and her still-burning sword cut through the tentacle like butter. But then another rose to attack, and another... and another...

The tentacle that Shooting Star had pummeled exploded backwards from the impact, spraying goo across the rooftop before fading into black smoke.

The tentacles engulfing the civilian girl were proving harder to dislodge, however. Still, it seemed as if Shooting Star was making some small progress as she yanked at them, attempting to pull them apart... but it would have to be quick, as more tendrils were flowing up the mass to grasp at the magical girl, herself.

The main body sprouted a set of stubby legs, rising up as it did, beginning to move, attempt to retreat.

It couldn't be allowed to escape with all those people inside it! Someone would have to get them all out, cut into the Negari...

But how?!
@HereComesTheSnow: But are you going to reach out to people straight and direct?

Also I think I can post again, and will do so tomorrow if not tonight.
For a few moments, nothing seemed to happen... and then the maid shut her eyes tightly and clapped her hands on her head.

"Ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow headaaaaache..." she whined, trembling with effort to stay on her feet. However, once the process was complete, the rune itself seemed to have grown... hazy. Moments later, it flaked away entirely from the black-haired maid's skin... and she fell to her knees, wincing. Obviously, the experience of having something pulled out of her mind had caused some level of discomfort. Still, she didn't seem as if she was in actual danger... yet, and the rune had been removed.
Season 3 never. Volume 12 never.

;~;

Alrighty, so that's only two peeople who needs to post unless they want to pass up this round. ^^; Hoshi being the chief one.

@ACHTUNG: I'll admit I'm having trouble reading a couple parts of your bio so it might take me a moment to get it looked over and judge it. ^^;
Tyaethe's presence and handily halted any attacks coming from either side, it seemed.

"..."

Fanilly lowered her sword.

"Iron Roses," she called, "Stand down."

It was perhaps not the decision she would normally have made. However, these circumstances were strange. Even once the fight had begun, Alette had used only the shaft of her spear and not the tip. She had only brandished the tip once further knights had joined the fight. And many of the mercenary force had seemed rather reluctant... it was a curious circumstance, and in good conscience Fanilly could not push the battle forward any longer, not once Tyaethe had stepped in, in a bid to halt the fighting.

She trusted Tyaethe had seen something to make her certain enough that the battle was in error.

Alette raised her spear and rested it on her shoulder, cocking her head to one side.

"You should be glad someone thought to take a look," the blue-haired girl commented, "Things would've gotten a whole lot messier if it had taken any longer, y'know? I definitely didn't want to have to kill such a girl with such a pretty face."

Doing her best to ignore that last comment, Fanilly stepped towards the spear-wielding mercenary, glancing briefly towards the rabbit-eared swordswoman..

"I am fine, Nori" she began, before turning to face Alette once more. "Show us, then."

Alette simply shrugged, and used her spear to point towards the door that Tyaethe had opened.

Fanilly signaled for her knights to follow, and approached.

Within, her vision was filled with corpses lining the walls. Stripped of all their gear entirely, a few days old judging by the way the blood had dried, their throats uniformly slit. Blue eyes wide with horror, she looked to the left and right. Lines of bound, murdered soldiers continued out of sight. It looked like the entire population of the fort...

"... They... were all tied up and slaughtered..."

"See?" interjected Alette, "We're no fools, why would we kill your soldiers? These bastards are the lowest kind of scum-sucking shitbags to do this kind of bullshit."

She gestured to the corpses scattered across the ground.

Borifos sighed.

"You speak as if you have a distinct advantage," he began, "I cannot claim to be as versed in strategy as Lady Alette, but I cannot help but notice we are evenly matched in terms of numbers. I would advise you to quit your posturing with haste, as I believe it can only cause aggravation in your superior officers."

Alrial, on the other hand, simply stuck her tongue out at the other elf, before letting out a huff and looking away.

"Ah, you're lucky," said the deathly pale girl, placing one hand on her cheek, "My lovely Alette seems no longer to be in danger. Hah~"

The sigh that escaped her lips was one of infatuation as her eyes lingered on the blue-haired girl's body from a distance.

"... A... a stingray? A poisonous fish~ A blade tucked against its tail~ It looks rather harmless, but is in fact deadly," she explained, without looking away from Alette. "I believe I have the title because of my apparent charm masking my lethality, but... haaah~ My charm is nothing compared to Alette's, is it?"
