You're free to make up whatever crazy gods you want for your own character. There are established religions and faiths, some more tolerant than others and others that are less tolerant than some. But you could totally play as a priest who worships the busty kraken-woman of the depths or whatever else you had in mind. While there might not be any sort of "inquistion" that'd actively hunt heretics, there're definetely islands and nations that have ... Stabile... churches, and they don't usually take kindly to faiths besides their own.

As for the question about pirates from other medias, as I said in the FAQ. You can play as Luffy if you really, really, really, really, really, really wanna/hafta, but I'd personally really, really, really, really, really truly prefer if you didn't.

If you have other questions, let me know. :)

EDIT:

Oh, and when I say I'd prefer you don't use pirates from other pirate-media, I don't mean as face-claims. I'm perfectly fine with people using Luffy or Nami or any other anime-pirate as their appearance. What I'd prefer people to avoid is using the established personality of said characters as their own personality - basically, someone taking Luffy's appearance AND trying to roleplay as Luffy, or copy his mannerisms, basically.... Plagiarism.
Pirates, Ahoy!:

Synopsis:

"Do what you want, 'cuz a pirate lives free~!"

Inspired, lured and driven by the romanticized tales of brave privateers on daring adventures throuughout the high seas, the age of pirates is one of ships, plunder and hedonism! In a world where the majority of the planet is made up out of water, dotted by countless islands, this is truly the ideal place for those who seek to sail and swashbuckle. Buried treasures, long lost temples of ancient cultures, foggy coves, adrenaline-fueled boarding battles, drunken feasts and buxom wenches, an endless supply of things to do, see and sample are just waiting out there!

... Along with the horrors of the deep, like monstrous plankton men, cthulu-esque monstrosities, sea monsters, ghost ships, the risen dead and, of course, the various navies of the 'civilized' world powers who seek to curb and stamp out any and all privateers they find. Add in the occasional run-in with ninjas, samurai, knights and vikings... Yes, this world sure has a varied and wild selection of inhabitants.. But what's a pirate's life without some dangers and supernatural complications? Nay, I say! Shrug off those doubts and set sail!

Plot:

This roleplay will follow the exploits and deeds of a certain pirate crew. From humble beginnings at some no-name port in the midst of nowhere, to the dizzying heights of being flush with gold, to the crippling lows of poverty and near death or worse. Each lad or lass has a dream to chase and a goal to fulfill, and the way they chose to reach that end is by becoming a part of this motley crew.

There's no world-ending disaster that's imminent, no continent-shattering disaster to prevent and no grand, history-changing event to take part in and become the central figures of. This is a tale about selfish, greedy pirates, being selfish and greedy and living as the yplease. The story goes on until all their wants and needs be sated, or 'til they all end up in a watery grave. Avast, ye swabs! Adventure awaits!

Stuff & Things:

This is an RP-idea inspired by things such as Sid Meier's Pirates, Pixel Piracy, Overboard (the old playstation game), Pirates of the Caribbean and other such piracy-media. As such, there will be a mix of things, ranging between silly, spooky, morbid, brutal, rule-of-cool-y and son and so forth.

The general gist of the story will be that your character(s) join a pirate crew, led by a captain (controlled by me) and we go on seafaring adventures. Every player character will have a dream or goal that their character wants to accomplish, be it obtaining vast wealth, restoring their family's honor, avenging a dead lover/friend/family member, finding a long lost treasure, etc, etc. Basically, your goal is your own, and you'll have your chance at telling your character(s) story. But what happens when the entire crew has told their stories, achieved their goals and done what they set out to do? Well, then we either all retire and lvie happily ever after, or go the way of most pirates and enjoy a watery grave. Yarr!

There's no set "end" to the story, other than if everyone ends up dead, or nobody has any further goals or ambitions to complete. The story goes until there's no interest in continuing it. Because of that, the RP can either be as long or as short as the players participating desires.

I will say though, that while there will be silly and wacky stuff, this is going to also be a bit more visceral, bloody and violent - after all, it is a story about pirates. This doesn't mean its going to be splatter-movie-levels of guts and gore, but it'll definetely have scenes and moments with descriptive violence. So, if you're not into that sort of thing, this might not be for you. We're not going the One Piece-route where fights last for 2 hours and nobody dies, even after each side having been pummeled into what is essentially living pulp.

People will be able to join the story pretty much at any time after it starts as well. As there'll always be a tavern, inn or shipwreck or little isolated island where you can have your character get picked up and made to join the crew. That said, there's going to be a limit on how many characters you can haave - which will be two. If you want to make another character after that, you'll need to retire one of your current ones.

Finally, the group is going to be set to be around 5 or 6 people, excluding myself. Those who post and show interest in this thread will have a space rserved for them if/once the actual OOC topic goes up.

F.A.Q.

Q: Who can we play as?
A: Humans, elves, dwarves and some of the mammalian beastmen.

Q: How many characters can I have?
A: Two, max.

Q: What anime/game/series is this based on and where does it take place?
A: It's a combination of things, that take place in a completely original setting of my own creation.

Q: Can we add and make stuff up ourselves for the world?
A: If you run it by me and I approve, sure.

Q: Will there be RISQUE themes and stuff in the RP?
A: There may be implied moments of such, but nothing descriptive or R18+. Any sexually explicit content will be relegated to PMs (if you know what's good for you).

Q: Can we play as a pirate captain with their own ship?
A: No. You'll be part of a crew. At most, you'll get to be First Mate or hold some other such similar position.

Q: Can we mutiny and then become captain?
A: No. Feel free to try and see what happens though (Not really, you'll just waste a bunch of time. Don't do it).

Q: What will the RP's pace be like? Will there be a post-order?
A: I will post a weekly update every Friday. You're free to talk/interact as much as you want with your fellow players, but if you take, make or respond to any actions involving the GM post, you can only do so once per update. Basically, you can talk and roleplay as much as you want with other players, but you can only do one actual 'story action' per week.

Q: Can we play as pirate-characters from other media?
A: You can. I won't exactly be happy about you copy-pasta-ing an already existing canonical character from another setting into my story, but I won't stop you if that's what you want to do. I'd rather you didn't though.

Q: If I need to leave the RP or take time off, how do I go about it?
A: You let me know in a PM or in the OOC, ahead of time. If you miss posting after I've done two updates in a row, you'll get to walk the plank. I realize that sometimes real life can spring stuff on you very suddenly, but try to get in touch with me asap if you're going to miss out on posting for a week or more.

Final Things:
  • Dwarves can't swim. Physically, its impossible for them to do so, without holding onto something.
  • Elves are physically weaker than humans, in terms of strength.
  • Only non-winged mammal-based beastmen are playable. So, things like werewolves, anime cat-girls, minotaurs, fauns, etc are all fine. Things like harpies, lizardmen, sirens, mermaids, snakemen or other such races are a no-go though.
  • There are guns, but not modern ones. As such, no things like assault rifles, SMGs, sniper rifles or any other modern, high-performance firearms. Stuff like muskets, flintlocks and the like is all you'll get.
  • Most of the world's surface consists of water. There are very few large, substantial landmasses.
  • The currency of the world consists of mostly silver or gold coins.
  • The (civilized) world still adheres to the concepts of royalty, nobility and socieal hierarchies.

So, if there's anyone who might be interested in this thing, do let me know~

Thanks for the heads-up. :)

... I wish this was actually a thing...

My favorite part is probably Yukari sneak-hugging Reimu... <3

(If not Touhou-fan, pleaSe ignore this post)
Friday, friday. Three days until the next update. If you're not sure what to do, just let me know. I realize that my last update probably should have been less.... Open-ended...
"Your honor, a child-size person charged at me and struck me with a twig. I just defended myself!"

"... By stabbing them with a sword and then setting them on fire...?"

"SELF. DEFENSE."

Yes. This arguement will surely hold up in court. ^^;
Congratulations, you all survived!
And some of you can add "murderer" to your CVs! :D

Some Forest...

Da'Niyah & Sayu:

As the dark skinned woman in the overly flowery gown unleashed a barrage of petals and throns at her assailant, the black-furred ratman let out a shrill snarl, followed by a small growl. However, despite Da'Niyah's attack ripping off small tufts and bits of the creature's fur, and obviously causing some disomfort to the little guy, it wasn't enough to stop its charge. Her step back and to the side also wasn't enough to move out of the path of the sprinting, charging beast-thing, as it had more than enough time and distance to readjust its path before reaching her.

And reach her it did, with a solid thud the tip f the stone-tipped, makeshift spear struck the woman in her gut... But... That was about all it did... The cloth didn't get torn, no blood was spilled and nobody let out a gut-wrenching scream of agony. In fact, to Da'Niyah, the experience was more akin to being punched in the stomach by a teenager, rather than being skewered by a polearm. Still, it wasn't a pleasant feeling and she'd likely be feeling that impact for a while after this whole ordeal, but at least she wasn't going to be the first person to die right after being transocated to another world.

The ratman, though, seemed a bit confused and was rapidly turning his head from one side to the other, his nostrils flaring and his eyes blinking and flittering all over the place. It seemed the barrage of flowers had left the pitiful creature momentarily blinded.

Which was great for Sayu, who out of nowhere just came rushing in like a viking berserker and promptly planted her newly claw-adorned appendage into the side of the rodent creature's head. While she aimed for its jugular, the reality of the situation was that Sayu wasn't a martial artist, nor had her costume bestowed upon the girl any sort of knowledge or inherent, passive skill or talent for fighting. Meaning she only had her own experience to rely on.

That really didn't hinder her in an way though, as onve her clawed wolverine-infringement-knock-off struck the creature, it was promptly send sideways, flying away from Da'Niyah in a glorious ragdoll-like fashion, stopped only by a small thin tree a very short distance away. The ratty rodent-man collapsed onto the grassy ground, fresh blood now slowly tirckling out of several newly acquired piercing-potential-holes on the left side of its face. The creature whined and hissed weakly, apparently not dead yet, but obviously being wounded or shocked enough to not get back up immediately.

It had also dropped its weapon, which was a plus!

Aria:

With the power of moonlight magic, the sailor soldier welcomed her on-coming adversary by firing off tiny spheres of luminous magic, or something along those lines. The tiny balls zipped forward and, as the ratman kept charging straight ahead, it didn't have time to do anything but run face-first into the volley of projectiles. Muted zapping and bursting noises were heard as the moon-bullets detonated upon the beastman... And after they were all done popping, what was left was a rat-fellow, standing still, with burnt fur and burnt garments, staring ahead in a blank stupor, before comedically falling over to one side, dropping its club harmlessly on the ground.

It appeared that this one was quite done, both in the litterl and figurative way. That's right, Aria, who had never once in her life probably needed to kill another creature to survive, had just ended the life of another sentient being with enough intelligence to use tools. Basically, she'd just terminated something as intelligent as a monkey back on earth. Hopefully, none of that knowledge would bother her once she realized it.

Cecilia & Charlotte

The last ratman who was gunning for Cecilia got to its mark within seconds. With a mighty hefted club, it swung and... Harmlessly bounced off... Even though it sturck the girl straight in the tum-tums, the attack did absolutely nothing. The little rodent stared, confused. It then got a shoulder-full-of sword, as Cecilia struck back... Awkwardly... As she too did not have any latent talent or inherited knwoeldge of swordplay from her costume. Having a metal blade sunk into your body isn't pleasant no matter if its a master or a novice who causes it though, and the ratman would agree, as he started to shriek and snarl in pain.

FOOM!

.

... Which was only amplified when he was suddenly set aflame, though the tone was less angry and defiant and more panicked and desperate now. Apparently, Charlotte's burning dice-magic had struck true, and set the foul thing ablaze... Which, was kind of horrifying, as it now struggled both to get free of Cecilia's and figure out a way to quell Charlotte's fire.

Unfortunately, it managed to do neither, and eventually just collapsed in a smoldering heap infront of the bikini-clad girl. The stench of burnt fur and roastedm ratmeat was quite intense wheile standing this close. But ehy, at least Aria wasn't alone in having killed a native now! And this one died far more horrendously and painful than the one she killed, so there was always comfort in that!

All the Girls:

With their ambush(?) dealt with, the only thing left now was the bigger, black-furred ratman. Lying near the tree which Sayu had knocked it into, the creature was injured. It began to stir and try and make an effort to move, but either it was too hurt or too dazed to be able to stand back up. The girls now had a new challenge ahead of them: What to do next?

Since they already slew the other two, would they kill this one as well? Or did they try to communicate with it? Perhaps they should think about the possibility of more of these things showing up, given the noise and ruckus that was just caused? If they did decide to put this one down, it was so weak and defenseless that basically anyone could do it - it wasn't able to offer any sort of resistance at this point.
Late, but better than never.

Not at all, you managed to get your IC post out before I could issuse my weekly sunday-warning about the time-limit. *pats on head*

Since everyone's already posted, there's no point in me waiting until my usual time in order to post. So, I'll get something out a little bit earlier than usual.
It's fine, it's fine. You didn't need to change anything. Just keep it in mind for the future. :)

I never did watch much of 'Hey Arnold' back in the day. I know it was a great show and I watched a few scattered episodes, but I never actually got into the show or followed it, which is a shame, since its got some real good stuff in it. :P

@PINKPANTHERESS, @Qia

I'm going to let you guys get away with your attacks hitting the rats, this time, because its the first fight of the RP. But in the future, please try and do what @Hammerman did and merely state your intent and what your characters is aiming to do, rather than deciding the result yourselves. As stated in the rules; Unless I make it very specficially clear that you can flex on and curbstomp an opponent, don't auto-hit them. It's not a big deal this time, sicne - again - you didn't really decide the outcome or amount of actual damage that was done, but just something to keep in mind for the future, alright?

On an entirely differen note: I hate mosquitos. Those little bastards have resurged due to the temperature going back up over here, and now they're terrorizing everyone! >_<'
THEY KEEP TRYING TO EAT MY FINGERS, HAND AND ARMS!

"I HATE YOU! Nnnnnhh!"
