I apologize if you felt my post was rude. I wasn't trying to be, and didn't meant to be it either. I was merely asking if there was a particular reason for why things were the way they were, and why I had reservations about that. But, since you've explained that there in fact is a reason - other than "I just think detectives from [media] are kewl!" - that answered my question.

Is there a particular reason why we're required to play as pre-existing characters from pre-existing media? Why I do find this idea intresting, the thought of having to play a character that belongs to an existing universe/series, and having to play that character in line with how they act, think and feel just doesn't appeal to me.
If this is a hard-set, must-be rule, I completely understand and in that cae, I'll be passing on this. But if there's not a heavy, decisive and incredibly plot-relevant reason for why this is the case, then perhaps we could negotiate?

Are we meant to play as existing characters from existing media? Like, say someone wanted to use the 'Attack on Titan' series as their "origin", would they then have to play as one of the charcters from that series? Or could they make an original character who hails from that "universe" and adheres to the rules and in-verse lore of that series?
Well, that wasa great and all, but it appeared the man wasn't fully as handy as she had hoped. While he was able to identify her haul of goodies, it didn't seem like the Pokemon Center was equipped with the services to manage transactions of actual, material goods. How frustratngly inconvenient for our little princess. Still, the green-apron'd fellow had given her some intel that would prove beneficial, so in her magnamity, she forgave him. internally, of course.
"Thanks for your help, sir." She smiled politely and retrieved her spread of wares back into the bag. Then, the young trainer looked over to her renegade pooch who had decided to leave his pokeball without permission. "And you, you're going back into your ball, mister." Confused, happy and oblivious bark with head-tilt. But Eve was having none of it, and in the next second, Growlithe was zapped with the beam of red and returned to his rightful place, for now.
With the business at the Pokemon Center complete and er team all healed up, her Rotom Phone equipped with a shiny new App, and with the knowledge that somewhere in this Tree House Town was a place that bought mushrooms for a premium, it was time to get to work. She hadn't made any cash since she'd left Grand Glory City after all, nor had she caught any new pokemon. True, she hadn't spent any money either, but walking around with just 1000p in your pocket wasn't actually finanically safe - especially if something unexpected happend.
Thus, she began the ardeous task of walking around and asking the locals various questions pertaining to the location of this fabled eatery.
"Padon me, I heard there was somewhere in this town that bought mushrooms at a high price. Would you happen to know where that is?"
She'd ask a few passer-bys and people who didn't seem like they'd bother too much if she approached and inquired. Making sure to avoid anyone who looked like they were in a hury or occupied with something. After all, there was nothing worse than some busy-body coming up to you in the middle of you doing something and starting to ask you questions that you didn't have tiem to answer.
But her goals for now were set.
Ask around Starbur Village for the location of the shop that buys Mushrooms at a premium price. If location is learned, go there and sell 3x Tiny Mushrooms and the 1x Big Mushroom. If location is not found, go to PokeMart instead and sell all the Mushrooms there.
Vanessa didn't respond much to the salamander's sudden outburst - and miracukouslsy timed awakening - after the dark mage had given the knight her little spiel. The only thing offered was the briefest of sideways glances, before her blue eyes returned to the man who was detaining them.
But the Guardian of the Cell of Imprisonment was generous today, it seemed, and soon enough the door to salvation was unlocked and swuug awide. Sweet. I was really not about that prison lifestyle... Might've had to blow the walls off if he hadn't let us out...
Dangerous thoughts aside, it seemed Iskah had perked up as well and was eager to get going. There wasn't much point in standing around in this place anymore - after all, they'd been let go and the object of her employer's affections was no longer present in this city.
"Yes, let's be off. We've got places to be and people to see. So, lead on, O' Great Lovestruck One." The dark mage replied, with a smirk and half-closed, playfully mocking eyes.
"Oh, and a good day to you as well, gentle Knight. I'll make sure to mention your galant deeds to some of my friends who might find you to be their type." She added when passing the man by as she exited the cell.
