Catching the blade on the first slice, James forces it down between them in a blade lock and then uses his shoulder to knock the novice swordsman off his balance, bringing his shield into the mix and catching Cody a glancing blow to the chest. "Telegraphing your moves and a poor center of balance would have had you decapitated if I'd wished to." Moving in again, James strikes with thrusts in a high-low pattern before spotting and opening and using it. Disarming Cody with a twist of his sword and a flick of his wrist, he puts the tip to Cody's throat. "Your balance needs work, as does your foot work and your blocks and parries, but you've got a solid bases to work on."

James used the momentum from the deflected blade to bring his sword back around and attack from the left, forcing Cody to think fast.

Plenty of people are, but it isn't as horrible as people are thinking. It actually increased their survival in battles. Me? I'm in it mainly for the campaign and co-op missions.

James would normally have caught the blade with his shield and come back with his sword, but he was training the lad, so instead he caught the overhead swing on his sword and redirected it to the left, pivoting on his left foot and slamming his shield into Cody's side. "Rule one of swordsmanship, never put everything into an easily deflected attack. Parries, thrusts, slashs, there's a time and a place for each one, but your most important is the parry and the block." Taking another ready stance, he prepares to move on Cody. "When I attack, I want you to block my sword with your own. This is key in learning how to use swordplay well. Or, if you don't feel comfortable blocking straight on, than parry. A parry redirects the enemies weapon without you having to put too much strength into it, a great trick against physically stronger opponents."

Letting her go, he heads around to where Sergeant Hareld is and taps his shoulder to get his attention. "Hey Sarge, I'm worried about Lilly. She's got this...haunted look in her eyes. And I'm concerned she'll either hurt herself or try and run."
