Ah, I've been meaning to ask if you've read a book called Things Fall Apart. Your story of the Eskandars recalled memories of that story; it's actually somewhat similar.


I have actually, a very long time ago. Didn't think there were any similarities, wasn't in my mind at all. Was actually going for a primeval biblical feel with a bit of human frailty in the mix.

I feel like Lif needs to talk to his old mentor again, he seems a bit down, plus I'm sure Lakshmi is missing her old friend Ventus.

I was thinking about replicating those giant instruments so that Zephyrion may play music - think something to withstand the coastal winds amongst the schools of magic created for the other gods in Alefpria. I thought I was missing something, and I realized that Lif never payed tribute to the god that helped him first.

That, or letting Zephyrion and the Majordomo himself dwell within the Boreale schools upon their construction.

I'll probably be turning the area north of the Great Steppes into a proto-germanic area. Generally a gaggle of barbarians at first that remain fiercely independent but with little technological progress. But once some god or another drops by and coverts em, then they begin to form stable kingdoms and from there bloom, albeit in a fractured way. Anybody else using that area or am I free to turn it into that?

@poog the pig Funny thing but since the time you introduced Lakshmi, I've always spelled the name "Lak-shi-mi" instead, for some reason I don't know. It always sounded better to me that way

A lot is on my to-do list and so I won't be the one to initiate. Feel free to initiate on your end though and have Lifprasil visit, though be aware that IIRC was somewhat flustered and pissed with how Lif left so suddenly and considers that apprenticeship a failure. It's one of many things contributing to how he's being now.

Without spoiling much, relatively soon something will happen that will make Zephyrion gone and inaccessibe for a long while.

So I'd be happy to collab with you if you start the post and have an idea, just be aware that if you want to do this it will need to happen somewhat soon

I thought as much - I've almost reached the one week mark in my three week trip, so I'll be back soon. Hopefully Zeph is still around. Don't forget though, that Lif left behind a gift for Zeph, maybe he should have looked into it more if he wanted answers?

@Cyclone I'm glad the story reminded you of so great a tale. For my writing, or even the themes in my writing, to be compared to anything of Chinua Achebe's is a pretty big deal! I've been working on Thanatos for a very long time, though that last post was done in a rush (was going to be far more detailed, over several posts, and I was going to go into more detail concerning Maki and Bato's child) but I am pretty happy with it as it is all things considered.

As I remember, Zephyrion did look at it and comment in a conversation with Ventus in one of my posts following Lifprasil's departure. He (rather intentionally on my part) didn't think that much about it and any subtlety in the gift was probably lost upon him. I haven't mentioned it since then, which I probably should've. Regardless, we can probably just bring it up again whenever that collab happens.

As far as instruments go, when Zephyrion, Illunabar, and Jvan first planned out Galbar's landscape and Zephy shaped its rough features, Illunabar wanted to make giant magical instruments. Zephy said he might one day get around to it.

@Double Capybara You probably thought I forgot, or maybe forgot yourself, but I haven't! My intention was to eventually have Zephyrion feel guilty about forsaking the ogres and drop a few magical horns in the Venomweald region for them to discover.
