RIDE into war? We're Knights, and therefore are supposed to kill giant lizards.

As for types of Knights, I'd stick with those present within the 7th Ed Codex - the Errant and so on; AFAIK the Cerastus and Questoris aren't included, but that's just my opinion.

I do agree to, that in order to stop things from progressing or getting too crazy too quickly, or some character just flat outpacing everyone else, some limits might be needed for character creation and the types of knights we can pick.

A good way to possibly pitch this as a story is we are all vassals to a baron (the gm or co-gm) answering either a call to answer an ancient pact made with a particular imperial world or planetary governer, join a crusade to retake a subsector from orks.

Or we can be a mechanical aligned house attached to an exploratory fleet diving into an unknown sector in search of archeotech or hunting down a knwon heritek forge world or the remnants of a traitor Knight house

Just a few ideas. Though most of them would be easier than finding an excuse as to why a dozen different houses saw fit to deploy their forces in one location . That would have to be something particularly nasty.

Easier from a story telling perspective to just say we are all part of the same house.

@Jbcool The Knights of House Griffith are well-set on the lizard-killing front, for they have fought giant lizards in the distant past!

Anyway, if we have a story already, I'll be glad to hear about it. Whilst I do think the idea of playing a Cerastus Knight is very fun, in particular the ability to use a Lancer's shield against close-combat superheavy foes and the need to deploy the same cleverly against other targets, I understand if they're not allowed for lore and/or balance purposes.

As was I, although all of us would be a wee bit 'coincidental' to say the least.

I agree that all of us being a lance from one of the established houses/a made up one would obviously settle that, but where's the fun there?

We all know that we're all here to basically narrate a 40k version of Gundam, Titanfall, and every other 'Mecha Anime' out there.

@Jbcool pffffft. Imperial equipment is closer to Mech-Warrior rather than Gundam. Which is good, because i find big stompy mechs more appealing than mecha who can run at mach 3... but thats just me.

@Sophrus In fairness, Cerastus Knights are faster than standard Knight patterns... not Mach 3 fast, but they can probably run at a pretty terrifying pace.

the point was that a mech weighing hundreds of tons or more shouldnt be able to manuver like an acrobat, at least not in wh40k technology. I find a huge mech the size of a reasonable office building doing a backflip is just silly.

also, can i trade out for a badass clan MadCat or Fafnir?

I took another look at the GM's plot snippet. It sounds like the perfect excuse for a Lance of mechanicum aligned Knights to be deployed.

Plus I think overall a better story might be had if we were all the same house. Yes being from different houses is fun for character creation and feeling like a snowflake. But I think I there is alot of story potential and interaction that can even be improved if we were all from the same house.

Plus again, it just makes sense thematically. Especially if we are liberating a forgeworld of all places.

i have also now learned that light mechs from MechWarrior are rough equivalent to WH40K knights, and the big assault Mechs are probably about the same size as a warhound titan.

Ugh. Mechanicum knights. Out of all the bad fluff factions in WH40K, Mechanicum knights are the worst. They're scummy assholes of the highest orders. Let me play a freeblade, and I'll be happy.
