on a day quite eventful, right after a trial took place, a lonesome figure was seated on the edge of his bed. There was a certain melancholic aura surrounding him as his eyes peered at the badge in his hand. The badge that was awarded to him for his ever vigilant work as an upholder of justice.

The thoughts in his mind drifted back to the day before, where he was frozen in place, a bullet flying straight past his head. He wanted to leave that place, to go as far away from it as possible, and never come back. But there was simply no way he could do that without reaching the core first. But to do that, he had to, once again, become the person that he’d banished so long ago.

Clenching his hand in a fist, Max stood up and raised his arm; and in a violent throw, the badge flew through the room, chipping a piece of the wall that it landed on. Where he was going, he did not need nor deserve that badge.

And so, the infinite police officer left his title in the corner of his room, and stepped outside.

Even though he could no longer protect the infinites, it would be awfully stupid to not make himself known to any newcomer; and maybe he would find a new conscript in it too.

As he made his way to the elevators, he passed a crying Emily. But as much as he wanted to give her the support she deserved, she would be a liability, a hindrance. So he walked along, not giving her a single glance.

It didn’t take him long to reach his destination after that, and as he turned the corner, he spotted them. But it seemed like they were already in conversation with Daimyon, who even now had not lost his blissful attitude. As Max leaned on the wall to listen to the discussion, he wondered what drove that man. It was hard to tell if the poet was indifferent, naïve, or just incredibly hopeful.

The other two showed much through their body language and short words as well. The boy looked like he’d been in this game for quite a while, he was getting used to it all, but there was still a sense of dread within him, which he cleverly hid with a smile. The way he spoke was very chaotic, but there was sincerity to his words; all things considered, there was potential within that boy.

The girl however…she just woke up in an unknown place, at an unknown time, and she probably heard the sounds of strangers…And yet the first thing she does, is attract them all. She was distraught and wanted answers. But the ones who panic are the ones who stay behind, and the ones who stay behind, are the ones who die.

After the group exchanged names and information, Max decided it was time to test these new recruits. There was no way they hadn’t spotted Max by now, so it would only be creepy if he did not do something, and as such, he pushed himself from the wall he was leaning on, and started walking towards them. But as he did, he took on a rough posture; and that combined with his already high length created quite an intimidating appeal.

“Tell me, do you know why you are here.”

Noel was somewhat surprised by the lack of the reaction to this display of sheer inhumanity. Then again, perhaps these infinites had been subjected to the despair for too long they had already forgotten what humanity looked like. ”You’re just as crazy as that dead bitch.” She murmured audibly enough towards Alice for everyone to hear. It was very much like the recon to jump on whatever the bear threw at her as a lifeline, even if it was full of inaccuracies. Then again, if she wasn’t going to follow up on her earlier threats, then her word was pretty much null and void.
She shot Ice a murderous glance, one befitting a white knight trying to protect his crazy girlfriend, what else did she expect from a common street thug anyway? Afterwards, she snappily gave Braden a look of gratitude. Sometimes you got support from an angle you least expected.

They forgot one thing though. She was the writer of this game’s history. And Mercy had now already been relegated to the status of a demon. A lunatic. She would slander Alice’s friend’s name with an unholy vengeance. Mercy deserved it, anyway. And even if it was going to be her own death, she was going to make sure her story was going to reach the outside world. Even if it was after the entire killing game was over.

With that, she left for the rollercoaster, fuming. Even though she caught that there were new infinites arriving, she wasn’t in a state where she could greet them properly. She simply retreated to her room for the night.

Man, this was a clusterfuck. After the trial everything simply devolved into chaos. He tried to give Davis the least of his attention. The only conquest he wanted to savour was beating his skull in. He looked worriedly at Krista. He wasn't sure whether to be happy or sad for the girl. She had heard her brother was safe, but she did not look fine at all. He hadn't the time to devote to her at that point, as he was adressed otherwise. However, he hissed angrily at the robot. “We might share our namesake, but if you as much as touch me, I’ll be sure to turn you into scrap metal.” A crack appeared in his glasses. ”Got that, you wretched, miserable heap of rust. Perhaps you can threaten me once you don’t need Davis to tell you to wipe your own ass before you do it. ”

He dropped his glasses on the floor, immediately changing them out for new ones. “…Thank you for cleaning my room, however, I do appreciate it. Excuse me.” Honestly, the robot hadn’t done anything wrong. He just had contained that flicker of anger far too long, and the robot said just the wrong thing to get the brunt of it. At least he was calm now. At least this nurse was good at anger therapy.

After having left the trial grounds, he was much like Daimyon intrigued by the sounds he heard. Familiar sounds, the sounds of new allies… or enemies? It was hard to tell these days. No, he had to stay optimistic! And surely, as they crossed the corner they stood face to face with two new faces. “Good evening. Pleased to make your acquaintance. I am Cyrus Brandon, the infinite politician.” He looked at them expectantly, friendly, awaiting their own introductions.

All Calvin could hear was the sound of his own breathing. Adrenaline coursed through him as the trial reached its conclusion. Felix was gone. And Mercy… It tore him apart to know that she had been so unwell, and he had had no idea. Would he have been able to help her? He doubted it. But it still ate at his guts that he hadn’t been able to try.

The sight of Davis brought Calvin’s world back into focus. What a fucker. Calvin remembered when he had bothered to try talking to the man. He could feel the cold edge of the scalpel he had held in his hand. Could he have ended things right there? Knowing what he knew now, what sort of despair would be thrust on his fellow Infinites, he certainly wished he had followed through on his threat when he had the chance.

By the time he had processed this, Davis was gone once more. And they were back on the damned rollercoaster. He stood lamely for a moment once he had stepped off the rollercoaster. He saw a few Infinites head for the elevators. Heard sounds that he could have sworn were the same as the last batch of Infinites who had entered the game.

He walked towards the elevators, and was unsurprised to see another batch of Infinites. Of course there were more. Of course the game would continue. The new arrivals were already being questioned pretty heavily, but Calvin only heard the tail end of Daimyon’s question by the time he arrived.

"Jesus Christ, of course they are." He muttered the words a bit louder than intended, and caught himself. "Sorry." He looked at Daimyon, and was painfully aware of the tension in his posture. He tried his best to let it dissipate, but his concentration on it only made him feel worse.

“Killing game? Last...game? Side-effect?” the redhead felt her trembling hand not on the elevator’s cool steel move to her aching head, pressing into her temple. It was enough that the world was still spinning, but half of what the man before her said was all lost in one, large, incoherent string of words. She blinked down at him and he finally came into better focus.
Did he have blue hair?

“Please,” she began, shaking her head dismissively, “Stop...speaking.”
Realising she may have come off as cold, she quickly added, “So fast, I mean. I...cannot keep up.” It would be wise to process what this person, this small Infinite Forensic Biologist human who knew much more about the game than she, was saying, if only for future use.

And suddenly, she felt her hand pulled away from the elevator, and instinctively it shot back right out of the Biologist’s hands and protectively into the Horologist’s own chest. If it reeled in any faster, she probably would have punched herself in the chest with it. ...movement was still largely difficult to control, it seemed. Her heart still beating in her ears, she took a deep breath and in attempt to relax herself, continued speaking, if only briefly. Her hands dropped nonconfrontationally to her sides.
“Hello, Noah.” she offered a small, apologetic smile, though it only made the corners of her mouth turn up a little, as if every other muscle that made up a proper smile refused to contribute, “You know my name. Forgive me, you startled me.” Her sentences initially came in short, slow bursts, but as she continued speaking, it was as if the muscles in her face and throat were warming up, “My body feels stiff. It is difficult to move. Thank you for the estimated time; I will keep it in mind. But you sound like you know what is happening here.” She paused to recall what he was saying before he went for her hand, “Who are the nurses here? Do you know who Dr Killgood, the bear that was on the screen, is?”

Even if he was someone that meant her harm, Juliette would take her chances. He didn’t exactly seem the most harmful, being shorter than her in her heels and with a bit of a baby-face still. She caught herself wondering how old this boy was, studying the creases of his face for any indication of age. She gathered, in a matter of a minute or two, that he was not particularly as young as he looked. But this was just one person, who arrived from right beside her. The sounds of footsteps she heard belonged to others. Were those the Infinites that were on the screen prior, or the nurses?
Did Monokuma Killgood hire a battalion of nurses to take care of anyone feeling even slightly out of it? But Noah said this was a killing game…

And slowly, the Infinites began to file into the large space in front of the elevators from which Juliette and Noah exited. She had meant to ask if his elevator also possessed bloody writing, but would have to get to that matter later.

The first to walk by was a very short young man, who Juliette discerned to be a teenager. More blue hair. Though the announcements in the elevator did include visual evidence of which Infinite was which, most of that was lost on Miss Bourbon, who was still battling her own sleep-inertia. Still, the very least she could do is put first names to faces. She may not have remembered all the infinite talents, but names to faces she could do.
This young man was Thomas.

The woman to follow a notable distance behind him (not necessarily following him, but also not necessarily not following him) was much larger, and was ample in both departments, front and back. She almost seemed toweringly huge because of her assets, but something about the way she walked was forced, it appeared. She also had blue hair. Why was everyone so inexplicably melancholy, though...?
This was Emily.

“Hello there. You must be new here. Are you also Infinites?”

The first man to speak was one who came after this couple. He was tall and slender and delicate, and had hair and a smile reminiscent of a lamb. Though his clothing was...was it from this era? It took Juliette back to medieval times, almost. There was something carefree and blank about his expression, and it definitely struck Juliette as odd, compared to the former two that passed by. She was about to reply to his polite question and warm introduction before—

"Jesus Christ, of course they are."

Two other people had arrived, all young gentlemen, but the latter on the scene was the one who cut Juliette's reply short. She bit her tongue, nervously squeezing her hand into a little fist as the air suddenly became a lot more crowded. ...did everyone here know what was going on except her? It was also an increasingly large crowd, and the Horologist immediately felt her cheeks go warm. It was...stuffy. There were many questions. everyone was talking at her at the same time...
She shot an almost helpless look at the first person she met, Noah, beside her, hoping he could take some of the heat. Unconsciously, even though he was much smaller, she shuffled closer to him as if it would be of any use in protecting herself. If anyone had noticed her uncomfortableness, they would have backed off immediately, or at least kept a fair distance from the Infinite Horologist and now the Infinite Forensic Biologist too.

Another deep breath preceded her next words. She would introduce herself first and foremost, and see where things would roll from there. To the small group and nobody in particular, she tilted her head slightly with a forced easy-smile and introduced herself.
“My name is Juliette Bourbon. I believe I’m the Infinite Horologist.”
She took down faces and names. The man who asked if they were new here was Daimyon. The bespectacled man who introduced himself was Cyrus Brandon, as he had shared his full name. The young man who seemed irritable was Calvin.

The last person to arrive was the most striking. He looked like he hadn't gotten sleep in a week, and his police uniform was a good tool to distinguish him from the rest of the people on the scene. This was Max, and as expected from his attire, he questioned the new duo immediately. Even though it wasn't supposed to feel like an interrogation...it kind of did.

“I don’t know why I’m here. I woke up in that elevator,” she gestured with an open hand behind her here, and if anyone would have cared to observe her pale palm, red crescents where her perfect nails anxiously pressed into it stood out against the surrounding skin.

“I am happy to meet you all. It is an honour to meet other Infinites, I think.” she drew her hand back again and offered the small gathering a genuine smile. It really was an honour. “If you know what is going on, I would be very grateful if you could fill me in.”

Obviously, his first attempt at contact had been the wrong one. The taller girl looked absolutely terrified and confused, confirming Noah's suspicions that she was a new player. She didn't continue banging on the door, but the Biologist could hear steps splitting off from the rest in the distance. Juliette Bourbon had certainly gotten her wish. He opened his mouth to apologize, but at her pleading, he quickly shut it. After she explained herself, Noah quickly nodded, trying to seem apologetic enough, though he knew he'd be asking just as many questions in the future.

Noah let his hand go slack but typed out his observations of her behavior in his head. Very skittish, doesn't like to be touched. Probably better if he kept his distance a little and let Juliette come and engage with the Biologist on her own time. "Breathe deeply-" The advice slipped out of his mouth before he realized that she needed a bit of time to process. But he didn't have a bag if she started to hyperventilate.

A smile returned with a smile, Juliette was able to continue to take social cues even in her trying time, that was good, great in fact. Her body was stiff, seemingly more than Noah's was. His last killing game had been going on for quite some time, had she been drugged and stowed away for a long period of time. "Please, allow me to examine you later." He tried to clip himself off before he began questions to help his diagnosis.

"The nurses are robots built with firearm extensions to guard Dr. Killgood and punish anyone who disobeys the rules. As long as you don't go out during the night they won't harm you. With your disposition, I would give yourself a few days before deciding whether to jump into the fray." Noah tried to keep his explanation short and sweet, speaking slowly and with extra pronunciation. "Dr. Killgood, also known as Monokuma, is a toy created by the mastermind to deal with us directly. If you try to attack it, it'll blow you to pieces so I wouldn't go near it with a ten-foot pole." He tried adding a bit of his own perceptions to seem more relatable and his smile grew more genuine.

The first Infinite came onto the scene, Thomas Herringson, the Infinite Biomechanic. Noah's eyes sparkled slightly as he zeroed in on the other boy. The intrigue billowing off the Biologist slipped out before Noah could contain his curious nature. He got a hold of himself before anyone besides Thomas saw, but Noah was slightly troubled all the same. So much for his first impression.

The second Infinite did seem to be well-endowed and he tried to keep the worried gaze off his face. Suffocation would be imminent if he didn't take any countermeasures. While the girl did seem like she needed an endorphin boost, the Biologist didn't want to dig his own grave by helping her. Better to keep his distance as much as possible. As his brain ticked away at his new list, he brought up her infinite: the Infinite Caretaker. While he would like to record her experiences, he didn't want to be alone with her, less a body discovery announcement go off.

In the meantime, more were arriving, so he tried to keep his face neutral. The Infinite Poet was a bit more fascinating, but for one main reason, he would have probably recorded everything that had happened. With both the notes of the Infinite Reporter and the Poet, he might have a coherent plotline even before he asked everyone and got their biases. "Correct, but she-"

"Jesus Christ, of course they are."

One of the feisty ones. With the gauntlets around his arms, he might be strong too. The Infinite Metalworker, a great asset to the group. The emotions read on his face matched well with Emily's making him think a tragedy had just occurred. Would it be a strange coincidence that they had just finished a Night of Carnage or trial? While new Infinites usually came sometime after each trial, he had no idea how things worked in another game. But alas, Noah really had to stop only staring at one person for too long before they thought he was creepy.

Noah gave Juliette a small glance before realizing she was staring at him helplessly. How long had she been looking at him?! Oh dear, his own social cues were getting all discombobulated. The taller girl came closer, looking terrified by all the new individuals. This was his chance! With his smile returning, he took the smallest step in front of her, moving himself in between her and the older Infinites. "Excuse me, Sir Poet, I assume you didn't get to hear our introductions. My name is Noah Dyer, I'm the Infinite Forensic Biologist. If you don't mind me asking, what time is it here? I can't have been knocked out very long." He glanced back at Juliette, "I'm not so sure about my friend here though. Some water would probably do us both some good." He gave a quick nod to the other Infinites, hoping he didn't come off as rude. First impression expectations could make or break relationships.

The way Juliette was pushing herself still worried the smaller boy. She didn't seem to do too well in crowds, but with the extenuating circumstances, there may be no correlation. The last to arrive made him want to protect the fragile Juliette even more. Had the game really done so much to the man in the picture? He looked ready to start his own coup d'etat. Juliette was quick to answer, but it only took a moment for him to zero in on her fingers. Noah reached for them, but stopped himself. The girl didn't like to be touched after all. "I come from another game, right after a trial so I'm without all my equipment. I'd like to get as much information as I can about this version and if someone could give me a hand in explaining to Miss Juliette, that would be appreciated. I look forward to working with you to avoid the death of us all."

Noah tried to think of anything else to add, "I'm about as qualified as a school nurse, but please make use of me. In exchange for information of course!" His curiousity showed through the gleaming in his eyes. Or wait- only one eye?

George Henry

If there was one thing his ma and pa had taught this young gentleman, it was that hard work and courteousness were important, desirable traits that all individuals should own. As an actual person, George Henry was not what you would call a paragon of these attributes. He was sometimes prone to being led around like a bull, letting irritation and disrespect to him or his family get the better of him. Sometimes he'd get on a high horse and it'd take reality's heavy fist to knock him off before he'd realize his wrongdoings. But for better or worse, Henry did truly desire to act as his parents wished. He owed it to them for raising and supporting him through childhood and allowing him the opportunity to pursue his interests.

A truth to these killing games is that they're prone to causing change in the survivors, for better or for worse.

For George Henry, who was known publicly for being quite the kind individual, this change was rather unfortunate. Having suffered, like all, through the constant fear of death, the sorrow of losing a friend, and the anger of being betrayed, Henry was unable to remain as he once was. The truly sad thing is that it perhaps changed him for the worse. One might say that he simply matured to view the world how it should be seen, but innoncence can never be regained and a loss you can't recover from is always significant. By the time he'd been put on the elevator and taken elsewhere, very few traces of the old Henry remained buried behind the accent. Merely a cold, paranoid shadow of his old self.

...

...

...

Henry had been leaning against the back wall of the elevator as it climbed (or descended) to its new destination, waiting patiently for it to stop. He recalled his first elevator trip. He wasn't alone on that one, and had even made friends with the people he arrived with. He remembered being reassured that there were people he could depend on and, of course, he recalled being devestated as those very same people either died or betrayed him, or both. Henry was glad this trip was spent in solitude as he no longer had the luxury of feeling safe in an isolated, confined space with another human being. Sadly, all good things must come to an end. The elevator reached its destination, and the doors had opened.

George wasn't exactly wearing a friendly expression when he exited the elevator and then spoke in a loud voice. "Well, I'll be damned!" he exclaimed, an almost arrogant smirk on his face. "Ain't you guys quite the posse! Though I reckon bandits would only give a hearty chuckle were you to ride up. Ya'll'd've got to be the scrawniest bunch I ever did lay my eyes on." he commented, ignoring the fact that I FORGOT TO EDIT HIS DAMNED APPEARANCE HE'S SUPPOSED TO AT LEAST HAVE ARMS THAT AREN'T STICKS REEEEEEEEE.

"I don't suppose there's a place to wet my whistle 'round here is there? I swear, if there's one thing this hospital is lacking..." he started to trail off but caught himself. "Oh, anywho, I'm George Henry. Ya'll can call me George or Henry, ain't matter much to me. S'pose I should tell ya'll in the hopes that it ain't my carcass ya'll discover next."

Soon enough, everyone had returned to the plaza. Yet the tension and despair between the infinites was conspicuous. Walking out of the entrance to the court behind the others, Alice appeared to be staring off into space, thinking about how her friend turned out to be a murderer. Along with making an obvious enemy out of Noel, it seemed to leave her with a bad taste in her mouth. But Braden? The recon seemed right to take his puppets' words with a grain of salt, finding out that he was as annoyed at her as much as the reporter.

While the other infinites either greeted the newcomers, or stormed away to their rooms for the night, Alice had other plans. Breaking off from the group, the recon made her way to the study. Not bothering to take in the enjoyable solitude and silence, she approached the vault. All she needed right then was someone to talk to.

"Hey, Parker."

The vault door was noticably wider. About a single inch, as to be expected.

”Ahhh...” The robot whispered. ”So another case solved. Just two more and I can be free.” She chuckled darkly. ”Woman who shares my name, what brings you here at this hour?”

"Just wanted to give you an update." Masson replied. "This case...was an interesting one, the blackened was killed before the real victim. Almost duped us all, really, near sucessfully framing someone. A shame it had to be my old friend though." She weakly smiled for a moment, before it faded away. "Actually, I'm here to make a request..." the recon admitted.

Parker seemed to be nodding along to the story. It wasn't until after Mason stopped speaking that she realised something had been asked of her.”A request?” Parker pushed her face against the opening. It was so wide now that it was almost possible for her to look out of it with both eyes at once.”The opening is bigger now. I could certainly pass larger objects to you.”

Masson nodded. "You said you could get me information that isn't available here, right?" She tilted her head before continuing. "Well, if it's not too much trouble...maybe you could get me some weapons instead? I can't do much with a simple cutlass."

The robot hesitated in her response, but only momentarily. ”You would ask me for a weapon?” Parker placed a hand on her chin.”I'm not sure that's going to be possible. I question why you would ask me for a weapon. The last person who used me in their murderer directly I turned in.” she shook her head. ”I do not think you are so foolish as to ask me for something that could be traced back to you. I suspect you likely have some contingency in place, and I refuse to aid in a crime the others won't be able to solve.” Parker squint her eye.

"Now, now, I'm not gonna be murdering anyone. That'd be going back on my word." Masson shook her head in return. "I just need them for the Nights of Carnage. The last one costed us two people's lives, and I can't afford to let it happen again." She explained. "Besides, I have someone I need to protect." The recon averted her eyes in thought.

”Your word?” Parker was silent as she listened to the rest of Mason's plan. ”It is so... Interesting that you have someone that you want to protect. Because there was a time where I was that to someone.” She looked at the ceiling. ”It's so long ago now, but I remember everything. His empty words, his broken promises, all started in happiness before I was thrown in here.” Parker reached her hand through the opening and grabbed Mason by the shirt. She pulled the recon closer until both of their red eyes were gazing into one another. Her voice became a low growl. ”I do not care about your love, requited or not. There's also nothing stopping the two of you from staying in your rooms.” She released Mason. ”You would be better off forgetting about them, unless you want to be the next one to die.”

Startled, Masson gasped when Parker grabbed her by her shirt. Supprisingly, the recon was filled with dread as Parker spoke. "U-Understood." She nodded once the robot was done talking. "Sorry for wasting your time." The recon backed up from the vault.

”However.” Parker said loud enough for Masson to hear. ”If you really wish for weapons, you need only break into Davis's room. It's technically not allowed, but you shouldn't be violating any rules if you do it during the night of carnage. I'm sure he gave himself an unfair advantage coming into this game.” She started to lower her voice again. ”There should be a chest. Most of the weapons inside will not be effective on a carnage sister. But keep an eye out for anything with my name on it.” The red eye looked away from Masson. ”And if you can find a K-bar with my name on it, please bring it to me.” She looked back at the recon.”I... Might... Consider giving you one of my weapons for it.”

"Mastermind's room, weapons chest, K-bar. Got it, thanks." Masson nodded, before walking away. "'Love'? Heheh, yeah right..." she mumbled to herself, chuckling.

Tropes of the four seasons
Used for the wrong reasons
For life is not four distinct blocks
That is my grievance.

If you want a fitting metaphor
Forget all that was said before
And create your own. Make it so
That it says what life is truly for.

—Daimyon Londe: Quick Lesson #4

What started as a serene scene quickly lost its tranquillity and threatened to devolve into chaos as more and more people gathered around the new arrivals. Calvin rattled the poet with his venomous tone, though he was entirely correct—Daimyon should have known at least this much already. And he did. It merely...slipped through the cracks. The blacksmith was followed by Cyrus who introduced himself politely, and Max who dropped all pretence and did not handle the delicate-seeming duo with kid gloves. The frightened woman protested weakly against the overflow of new faces and new information, before introducing herself as Juliette Bourbon. The small, purple-haired man was a bit more decisive with his actions, approaching the poet with an appeal to help them orient themselves in the new environment. One droplet of information caught his attention the most: that he, Noah Dyer, came from another killing game. Somehow, Daimyon did not think there were other such ‘games’ going on besides theirs and he shuddered to think of what could be going down in them. Before he could answer Noah, another elevator opened and out popped a red-headed, quick-talking man who introduced himself as George Henry.

All this happening so quickly was almost too much for the poet who, on the contrary to his established reputation, did not feel as exuberant as others might have believed. He desperately needed a sleep to reset his mind and to be able to memorise everything again properly for the day. Still, he was the one who chose to come here and he could not get away from it now. He decided to, for once, take charge of the situation.

“Everyone, please, silence,” he spoke up, raising both of his hands in a ‘calm down’ gesture. His tone was firmer than usual, though not nearly as overt as Max's or even Calvin's. Once the group has sufficiently quietened down, he continued. “Let us take this slow. Juliette, Noah, George—welcome. If you can feel the tension and the despair in the air, that is because we have just finished a trial of life and death. If you truly come from another game like ours, you should understand. And though those of us who have been here since the beginning have our numbers dwindling, the group is constantly replenished with new arrivals such as the three of you. I cannot give you an exact time now, but it is late in the evening. If you wish for refreshment, though, the break room is not far away from here. In fact, I recommend we all head there now, for it is also a more fitting environment to get your bearings and for more in-depth discussions.” He adjusted his coat and glanced at the gathered Infinites. “Will you come with us?”

”Threaten?” Kyra raised an eyebrow, but she wasn't going to get a response from Cyrus, who left in a huff.

Emily wanted to greet the new patients as soon as possible. But upon her arrival, she became aware of how many other infinites were ready to do the exact same thing. The old Emily might have cut in front of everyone and throw herself in front of the new infinites, calling out her name, title, all before ordering Thomas to talk to them. But that was probably the last thing they wanted. As is, they were surrounded by a bunch of new faces, half of which they would likely forget. It was a lot to take in, and even Emily wasn't really ready for everyone when she was introduced into this killing game. Instead, her roll here would be to stand by and watch over anyone that might need her help. After Calvin's outburst, she immediately approached the metalworker. ”It's alright Calvin. First impressions are important, but they aren't everything!” Emily wore a nervous smile. ”Remember how I was acting at the party? I let one of my mistakes ruin an entire evening of wonders, for myself and everyone else.” She forced herself to chuckle. ”But I'm not going to let that stop me from being a better roll model in the future, and you shouldn't either!” Did that sound forced? It would be a long time before she had everyone's respect again.

”Hey!” Monokuma popped out of the floor. ”There's like twenty of you guys now! Do you know how long it'll take fort you all to introduce each other? The average person doesn't have time to exchange names with so many people at once!” The bear furiously thrust his paw forward. ”You guys can't even say a few words to these cubs without blowing a gasket. That's why it's best to just leave everything to the automated Monokuma express introduction system.” He pointed at a monitor. ”Alright girls, roll daddy's mix tape!”

A picture of the Horologist appeared on the monitor. ”Juliette Claire-Ora Bourbon, wow, say that five times fast. She even shares her last name with a drink, which you will likely have to take after saying her name that many times. Apparently she's pretty good at counting time. But she's kind of pointless with the advent of clocks being built into our cell phones. She's a time traveler too by the way. Yea, she travels folward in time at about one second per second.”

The next was a picture of the gunslinger. ”That thar's George Henry, the most rootin-tootin gunslinger the initiative has. But sunny boy here almost got beat out by a master of them-thar Indian contraptions. Maybe he'll be done in by the advent of devilcraft on the ol' tell-E-phone.”

And finally, the Biologist ”Noah Adam Dyer is apparently very acustom to looking at dead bodies. Probably because he spends so much time in the student body. You know, those collage girls are right up everyone's ally. And while he may look like a little tyke, he's actually a grown man. But don't worry, his current shape fits his mental maturity juuuuust fine!”

Monokuma nodded after the monitor turned off. ”I outdid myself this time.” He turned to look at Daimyon. ”Hey, you know that book you haven't told anyone about? The one with the school girl? Yea, you might wanna think about going to the carnival. Everything else is there.” The bear continued to stare at Daimyon.

"So this is where my life lead to, huh?"

Inside of the elevator sat Henry Masson; usually called Deimo, staring at the top of the tiny room with an unamused look. Usually the pianist would look for the good in his current predicament, but so far things weren't looking up for the poor boy. "First my leg get's crushed under a piano that couldn't support itself, then I get stuck in the hospital for a few weeks, and now here I am, trapped in an elevator-"

As usual, Killgood suddenly appeared on the television screen. "with a knockoff Winnie the Pooh Bear on the TV." Henry sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Fantastic." He looked up at the screen as the monocrome bear went through the introductions of every infinite in the killing game, including the other newcomers. The ones that caught the pianist's eye was the sharpshooter that shared the same name as him, George Henry, and the biologist, Noah Dyer. "Huh, looks huggable." Deimo remarked about the latter, bringing a hand up to his chin in thought.

Once the introduction video was done, the elevator's door opened up. Henry stood up from his spot on the floor and walked out into the patient's quarters. Looking around at the new surroundings, the pianist spotted a group of people few elevators away from him. "Oh." after a minute of thinking, he decided to walk over and introduce himself.

"Um, hiya! I'm Henry, but you can call me Deimo if you want!" He said, a warm smile on his face.

Before Daimyon could set off anywhere, Monokuma appeared to take the spotlight. He could not forget the monochromatic bear—his announcement was the first thing he heard every morning, which ensured that he would always remain on the poet's mind, day after day. At least now his role was not to sow discord as he merely introduced the three new Infinites properly. That is, until he turned to Daimyon himself, mentioning a ‘book with a school girl’ and the carnival. The carnival, he knew about: it was on the third floor; he had checked the map a couple times today to confirm that. In that moment, however, he was unsure what kind of book Monokuma was talking about. When he disappeared, the poet hastily pulled up his notebook. Fortunately, he did not have to search for long, as it featured prominently in his writings from not so long ago.

“The Ryoshi Membook!” he exclaimed, slapping his forehead.
He wrote down clearly how important the partly-deciphered work was to him, which gave Monokuma's comment a new urgency. He turned back to the new Infinites and noticed a fourth unfamiliar face approaching—he did not want to leave the gathered group behind in this state, but he felt like he had to address the concern of the Membook today. And it was getting rather late.
“Well, I must depart now...” he said to the trio. “I would still recommend you head to the break room. And, Noah...” He stepped closer to the biologist, leaning low to address him in a quieter voice. “Please take care of Juliette. She looks...uncomfortable. I shall see you all tomorrow.”

With that and a quick farewell to the rest of the Infinites, Daimyon took off. He walked up two floors and into the resort, keeping his notebook open throughout the whole way—almost tripping on a staircase as a result—, reading more about the Membook. He got himself up to speed on his previous results in the mysterious schoolgirl's diary and on how he was driven by the potential that it could unlock secrets that could help them in their own peril. Making this motivation his own once again, he strode through the third floor resort until he reached the entrance to the carnival. The gate bore Monokuma's black-and-white face, split down in the middle. Alongside these ‘colours’, red also featured prominently on the attractions and tents inside the carnival, evoking the feeling of certain noir films. There was even music, though the poet deemed it more disconcerting than cheery. It did not help his mood that he wandered around the deceptively large area for some time without finding anything—even with his imaginative mind that tried to draw symbolism from everything—that could in any way relate to the Ryoshi Membook.

Frustrated and believing the whole ordeal to be nothing more than a joke played at his expense, Daimyon was about to call it a day before he stumbled upon what seemed to be the end of the carnival. It was not so much an end as it was a closed-off area with a separate entrance which was locked. On it, a sign read ‘The Midnight Carnival is under construction. We have no actual construction workers in this hospital, only nurses, which makes things difficult. Beary sorry!’
That had to be it, the poet thought. That had to be where the secrets of the diary could be found. All he had to do...was wait.

On the way back, he wondered when the Midnight Carnival would open. Was there some sort of event that had to trigger it? He hoped it was not another trial—but if so, the only other event he could think of was the Night of Carnage. And after they had to organise an entire party to raise the spirits following the previous one, Daimyon really did not want another. He hoped that, somehow, some way, history would not repeat itself, just as much as he wanted the murders to end. This day was too much for him: too much hope, crushed by too much despair. When he finally arrived back in his room, he collapsed onto his bed without a second thought. It was time to forget everything.

”Oh yea, and that's Henry Masson, the five foot pianist. Yes, I did say that right, you pervs.” Monokuma sighed. ”Introducing you all is exausting. I'm going to go hibernate. Wake me up when they start killing, okay? But here, for those of you that don't already have them, here are your hand books.” and then the bear dropped into the floor.

At this point, Emily very badly wanted to just walk away from the whole scene. Calvin at least seemed a bit more relaxed. Well, as relaxed as one could be in this situation. ”Sorry everyone, you just caught us at a bad time.” Emily did her best to smile. ”I think most of us are going to head straight for bed, but for those of you who aren't tired, I'll brew us something to drink. Cyrus is pretty good at catching people up on the situation.” She placed a hand on her chest. ”My name is Emily. I'm... A care taker.”

Bliss had gone straight to bed, but she wasn't able to sleep. She couldn't get her eyes closed. All the nanny was able to do was look at the ceiling and relive the trial in her mind, over and over again.

Someone used her to commit suicide.

Someone used her to commit murder.

And this wasn't even the first time she had done something like this. Her brother, Mercy, and Felix. Bliss could see their shapes shifting in the darkness. She was sure they all wanted revenge, and she wouldn't close her eyes for even a second. That night.

CHAPTER 4: THE FOUNDING OF INFINITE TALENT

Monokuma theater ti-yawwwwwwwwwn!

Formulas are great aren't they? Without formulas, we wouldn't have the internet, electricity, clean water diapers, mood adjusting medication, guns, poison, war, and despair.

But sometimes formulas can be a bad thing. Like when you turn on the TV to watch your favorite shows. It's a great tool for writers because it lets them easily create new content. But for the viewers, it can come across as lazy and boring.

Perhaps there's a lesson to be learned here. Maybe formulas don't benefit everyone. Mercy Evergreen, I wonder if your formula helped anyone...

”This is going to be... My best breakfast ever!” Emily was making breakfast by herself in the kitchen. She wore a “kiss the cook” apron that was a bit small for her broad chest. Apparently Bliss didn't sleep too well, but reassured Emily that after she got a bit more sleep, she would like to make everyone lunch. ”The best breakfast that anyone has ever had!” She swayed her hips side to side as she turned over several slices of bacon. ”Because Emily's gunna make it like everyone's momma makes it!” She flipped a pancake without looking at it. ”Lots of love, lots of love!” Breakfast wasn't very hard to make, But Bliss was definitely better at prepping the kitchen to make everyone breakfast. The clock was ticking, and Emily only had a few plates of food ready. She doubted everyone would be hungry, but since the killing game had well over 20 people now, it was very likely that not everyone would be able to come and eat right away. At this rate, she wouldn't be done for another hour or so. ”I've just gotta do what I can.” she whispered to herself.

"Oh, so that wasn't some weird dream..." Sitting up from his bed, Deimo looked around at his new room, rubbing his eyes out of drowsiness. "Once again, fantastic." He sarcastically muttered. Searching through his jacket pockets, the pianist pulled out a small journal. "Atleast I still have this with me." Deimo chuckled, stuffing it back into his pocket.

"Now, what to do here first..." Henry thought to himself, geting out of bed.

Ice hadn't done much after the trial, basically getting to his room and unwrapping his chain before going to bed. All he wanted to do was shut down, not get anymore involved with what he had been feeling during the trial. Scenes continued to replay in his head along with other memories of Mercy, trying to figure out if there was any sign of her mental illness. After a while of tossing and turning, he had banged his head against the pillow and swore, not really trying to injure himself, but to knock the thoughts out of his brain. Thoughts of Alice's fight with Noel that would sure continue to escalate, thoughts of Felix dead on the floor, thoughts of Max's switch going off and... T-Thoughts of-

Ice stood up and started doing exercises, anything that his body would allow him to do. After a while of still being alone to his thoughts, he had left his room to go get some water. He started for the break room and found the group of infinites loitering around the elevators. New faces dotted throughout the group, but Ice only glanced over at them. Instead of going to the break room he went into the boy's bathroom instead and drank from the faucet, before throwing his head under the water too. Finally rid of any wayward thoughts, Ice had gone back to his room and gone to sleep with his hair still wet.

When the Blood Donor finally awoke, he came back to reality almost instantenously. His body had shaken itself out of a nightmare he couldn't remember, but he could still feel the pain it had brought him in his heart. Ice got up, combing his fingers through his hair, only to find it super unruly and out of place. Any other time he would have at least wet it down, but after last night's ordeal he refused. The Blood Donor grabbed at his handbook to look at the new infinites, but found he didn't have the motivation to go through with it.

He laid back down on the bed for a bit, having not yet heard the morning announcement. His eyes scanned the room that had long since been devoid of much of its original materials. All the halloween-like blood decorations had been thrown into a pile in the corner and suitcase contents was thrown about on his desk. Angry at his own poor management, he started to reorganize. After a few minutes of meandering the morning announcement finally came on. Ice grabbed at his handbook to finally look at the new infinites and set to scrolling through their profiles while sitting on his bed. The tiny Biologist reminded him a bit too much of Erin, making him flinch when his picture came up. The Horologist would be someone to look into later, but he only took a quick glance at her profile. The Infinite Gunslinger looked to be a bit of a handfull and someone to watch out for and-

Ice's breath caught, the face staring back up at him from the lit up screen looked familiar- yet not. As he scanned down the Infinite Pianist's profile, his eyes fell on his last name: Masson. Profanity after profanity slipped from Ice's haggard throat. He threw his handbook at the bed and slipped his good hand over his face. Why did he have to be here?!

Only a few minutes after, there was a banging at Deimo's door. Not something as simple as a friendly knock, but a loud hammering of someone desperate for the door to just stop existing.

"Henry!"

"The hell?" Deimo nearly jumped when he heard someone knocking a bit more violently than usual at the door. "Hold on a sec! Just quick trying to break the door down! Jesus..." He quickly opened the door and looked at the unfamiliar blood donor. "Yes?"

Ice took a long look to despairingly confirm his suspicions. Certain characteristics matched up well with Alice's and his overall short stature matched well too. Seeing as how he matched his picture in the Handbook's profile, this only but confirmed it. Hesitant to confirm the reality of the situation, he let out a breathless, "Henry Masson, correct?" He was sweating through his bandages and his heart was racing far too much for his disease's liking. If he didn't calm down he might have to worry about passing out again.

Henry nodded. "Yeah... Uh, are you okay there, dude?" He asked, taking note of Ice's nervousness.

"Come with me," Ice ordered while gripping onto the tie around his neck. "It's... important." What would she think? Would she blame the messenger? This was too much right after Mercy had died. Ice didn't know if he could support her through all of this, but he would certainly try.

"...Um, okay?" Deimo nodded, walking out of his room. He didn't have any plans, but wasn't sure if he should let his guard down yet. "Lead the way, I guess."

She didn't even bother sleeping.

After meeting up with Parker, Alice had retreated to her room, and didn't come out since. She stayed up all night, looking back to when her old friend was murdered and beyond that. Once morning had arrived, the recon was staring idly at the ceiling.

She sat up from her bed, hugging her legs close to her. Alice couldn't stop thinking about Monokuma's closing argument, and how she didn't know that Mercy was more prone to self-harm than her. It couldn't be just that. Her friend's schitzophrenia driving her to do such a grim deed just didn't seem right somehow.

Maybe it was cause of the recon herself? She had been a shitty friend to Mercy. Maybe if Alice didn't leave her alone, she could've stopped her. If she treated the infinite plague doctor better, maybe she could've talked her out of self-harm. And if she even had some way to see the future, like Faith thought, maybe none of that would ever happen, and the party Krista had planned wouldn't have been ruined.

Either way, Alice couldn't shake off the feeling that all of it was her fault. A frown appeared on her face, as she held back the urge to sob again. Taking some deep breaths to calm down, she decided to get out of her room and play some piano at the music plaza. It always helped her vent out her frustrations.

First the two of them headed down the stairs to the first floor before hearing the piano. When the notes started to play, Ice stopped for a second. If the strings had been dug out of the auditorium's piano, that meant there was only one place with a working piano. "Sound familiar?" He breathed, not able to stop himself from making a wise guy remark. The Blood Donor started up the stairs again before ending up in the resort. When they started to pass by the Diner, he stopped and pointed. "I'll be here if she needs me. Go get her, Boy Wonder."

Deimo raised a brow, before walking over to the music plaza. Looking closer at the girl playing on the piano, his eyes widened in shock. "Sis?" a grin appeared on the pianist's face, as he snuck up behind the recon, and waited till she was finished with the song.

She did feel a bit better after playing the piano, but Alice still felt guilt crawling on her back. "Damn it." She sighed. "What am I gonna do...?"

"Wow, you've really improved from last time, Sis!"

The recon quickly turned around to see her little brother, her eyes widening in supprise. The two stood in silence for a short moment, before Henry spoke up again. "Uh, Alice? You oka- AHH!!"

Before the pianist could finish his sentence, Alice had tackled him into a hug. "Jesus, didn't think you've missed me that mu-"

"Shut up."

"Huh?"

"Just- Shut up, you little shit..." the recon chuckled in relief. Noticing a hint of sadness in her voice, he returned the hug. "Man, it's been awhile. You look like hell." The pianist remarked. "Been through hell too many times, really." Alice chuckled again, before pulling away from the hug. "So! Gonna introduce me to your friend here?" Henry nodded his head over to Ice.

Ice was trying his best to keep from intruding on their reunion. He was switching in between crossing his arms and uncrossing them while leaning against the far wall. A blush slipped over his cheeks, he didn't look like he was eavesdropping, did he? The poor guy internal fussing made him think he was coming off as creepy or awkward, when in reality it just looked like he was lost in thought.

"Oh, you met him before coming over here, didn't you?" Alice asked her brother, looking over to the blood donor. "More like he lead me to you." Deimo shrugged. "Huh. Hey, Ice, over here!" The recon waved over to her friend.

Trying to look at nonchalant as possible, Ice wiped at his brow and walked over. "....Hi." He bowed his head a little, feeling a whole lot taller than the two of them. He wanted to hug the recon, but felt like it wasn't his place to intrude. "I thought... well, I thought you'd want Boy Wonder here right away, since him being here can't be avoided."

Henry raised a brow again at the nickname. Boy Wonder? Did he look like a robin to him? The pianist was pretty sure he wasn't a robin. "Don't worry. Seeing Henry again is what I needed after..." Alice's smile faltered. "Anyways, Henry, this is Ice. Ice, you already know baby bro."The recon properly introduced the two, earning a light punch on the arm from her brother. "Nice to meet ya! I'm gonna assume that's a moniker you go by so..." Deimo crossed his arms in thought. "Would you mind if I referred to you as...I dunno, Winter?"

Moniker, huh. That was a great word that Ice would have to add to his everyday vocabulary.... He had been outshown by a kid. "I would indeed mind-" He rubbed a hand on the back of his neck, "Just because I won't remember to respond to it." He gave a sigh and sat down on the piano bench, "I've already forgotten but, you taught Alice how to play piano, right?"

"That's right." Deimo replied. "Yet I'll never be as good as him- ow." Alice added, earning another punch on the arm.

Ice gave a small smile, "Well, she's really good. And um, I've heard a bit about you." He didn't know what else to say so he just clasped his hands together between his legs.

"Oh really?" Henry looked back over to his sister. "You've been talking about me?"

"Uh, y-yeah, a little..." Alice averted her look in embarrassment. "So what did she tell you?" The pianist looked back at Ice with a smirk.

For some reason, he didn't really like the smirk on his face considering it was at Alice's expense, "I was told about how you guys broke your mother's antiquity cabinet. Also that your pooch one ripped apart one of your coats to keep ya out of the storm. Strong companionship that buckeroo must've had. Now my question is..." He dipped his head closer to Henry in a conspiratorial manner, "What can you tell me about Alice that she's too embarrassed to say herself?" He let out the first real smile since he and the recon had played in the fountain, though it came off as rather devious.

"Oh yeah, I remember. Poor girl didn't want us to get drenched, but we had to leave either way. Had to buy a new coat after that, hahahah!" Henry laughed. The smirk on his face turned into a grin when Ice asked him about the recon. "Hm, there isn't really much I know she's embarrassed about, aside the fact that she loved fairies when she was younger." The pianist shrugged. "I mean, I can tell you about her old job, but it's not something embarrassing so..."

"No, she can chat with me about that on her own time," his devious smile slipped into a normal one as he thought of Deimo's statement. Fairies, huh? "The sparkly ruellas with wings? Mary used to have some of those, though my older sister always got mad at her for it. Something about religion or whatever..." His smile slipped as he remembered the gravity of the situation. "Okay shats, so you just woke up here right? Did you come from another game, what's the last thing you remember?"

"Wait, there are more of these?" Henry asked. "Anyways, last I remember before arriving was being transfered to another hospital. Then I found myself stuck in an elevator."

"I had a feeling that might happen..." Alice facepalmed. Oddly, she appeared worried when her brother mentioned her old job. Maybe it actually was embarrassing?

Setting aside Alice's actions, Ice's bore into Deimo's skull, he needed to get his point across, "Do not even think about leaving your room between midnight and one. That time is called the night of Carnage and anyone could try to kill you. Always have your guard up okay?" He turned to look at Alice, "Does he have any combat experience at all? We could have Calvin see about getting him a weapon for protection."

"Y-Yes, sir!" Henry quickly nodded. "Yeah, he taught me how to play piano, and I taught him self defense." Alice replied. "Don't worry about getting him a weapon though, I'll give him my cutlass."

The Blood Donor gave a sigh of relief, "Wait, if you give him the cutlass, what are you going to use?"

"I have a plan to get some more weapons." The recon explained, looking around to see if anyone was around to hear. "I talked with Parker last night. She told me there's a weapons chest in the mastermind's old room. I just have to break in during the next night of carnage." She added, lowering her voice to a near whisper, but loud enough for Ice to hear. Yet Parker's warning still stuck with her. Alice had to ask herself, should she really be telling the blood donor about her plans?

"That sounds really stupid... But intriguing, I'm in." Ice was all on board with doing anything stupid to get out of here. The weapons that Calvin made were created with cheap metal and weren't exactly the greatest. If they could get a hold of real, specially made weapons, they would be golden.

"Excelent. She told me most of the weapon aren't effective against the carnage sisters, but we'll have to look for anything with her name on it, especially a Ka-bar combat knife." Alice told her friend. "Wait, I just remembered. Max wanted us to meet him in Aladdin's Palace, think we should go?"

Ice nodded, "'Ight." He glanced over at the smaller boy, "You'd better take a number kiddo, Max isn't tip top right now and I'd hate to see you splattered on the wall." He pointed over to the Diner, "I bet Bliss'll be serving up some grub now."

"Yeah, yeah, I know to avoid people when they're in a stabby mood." Henry reassured Ice. "Glad to see you again, Sis. Really." The pianist gave the recon a warm smile, then walked into the diner. "Uh, should I go grab my cutlass just incase, or...?" Alice spoke up with some concern.

Ice took a glance around and nodded, "It's a killing game Alice, you never know when anyone will strike." After making sure she got the message, he scratched at the back of his neck, "Do you think he'll be okay?"

"Who? Henry?" Alice looked up at the blood donor, then over to the diner. "Yeah. It may not seem like it, but he's strong. And even if he wasn't, I'm not letting anyone hurt him, or you." The recon explained."Okay, I'll be right back!" She then ran back to her room to grab her weapon.

A small smile slipped onto Ice's lips as he watched her go, even though he didn't like the idea of her fighting for him. Would they be able to properly protect Henry? He was such a small boy. Then again, Ice hadn't been that big when he first became a lackey for the mafia either. He moved over so that he sat facing the piano and tried to remember what he knew about the keys. He did a simple scale, then the Blood Donor played this little song his younger sister had taught him, though only the right hand notes. He messed up a few times, but kept going anyway. Once he finished all he knew, he played it over again.

Sword in hand, Alice made her way back to the music plaza. When she saw Ice playing the piano, the recon slowed down her walking speed as she watched her friend, unaware of the smile on her face. Until she accidentally stumbled into the drums.

Ice's hands flew off the keys and he tried to get up so fast that the piano bench keeled over and Ice went along with it, almost face first. When he finally was able to rearrange himself onto his knees, he looked up, "You solid?" A deep blush of embarrassment flooded his face.

"I'm okay!" The recon gave him a quick thumbs up, before sitting up and dusting herself off. "Sorry for that, hahah..."

Ice got up as quickly as he dared, not wanting to trip over himself again and walked over before reaching out a hand to help her up. "I'd say pay more attention to your surroundings, but that would be rather hypocritical of me."

"I probably deserve it though. Bumped into a wall too many times to count, but this is ridiculous." Alice chuckled, grabbing his hand.

He pulled her up and then fixed the drums so they all stood up right, "Well um... ready to split?"

Alice nodded. "Right, let's go."

The morning was still young when Cyrus roused himself from a rather restless sleep. So much so that he wasn’t actually awake before the morning announcement. This was something very unlike the politician. Perhaps all the chaos was finally getting to him? Of course had been affected, but he had been able to stave it off physically, until now. Still, he was pretty fine all things considered. He knew he was probably one of the people better off at the moment. Just one bad night. He was the lucky one.

For today Cyrus had a list. A list of people. People he wanted to pay a visit before the day was over. One person in particular on that list he’d rather get it over with as soon as possible. He was pretty much obliged to try, wasn’t he? Yes, indeed. There was no way around it. With a deep breath he skidded through the hallway and knocked on the door of one particular individual.

“Hello Zach!” Jezebel called out before the door swung open. But once she saw the politician, her cheerful expression changed to one of indifference. “The noid.” She folded her arms and leaned up against the frame of the door. “So like, what’s your damage?”

Jezebel’s expression somewhat mirrored his own, inner feelings. However, he tried very much to at least appear friendly. Not overly so, he just basically approached Jezebel like you’d approach a random stranger on the streets. Friendly, but not in a way that makes it seem like you expect them to buy your shit. “Good morning.” He said, pausing for exactly one-and-a-half seconds. “I know I’m not the face you’d like to see first thing in the morning. However, I was hoping we could talk for a bit...” Well, here goes nothing.

Jezebel wordlessly pointed into her room with both hands, and the politician entered. There was the matter of all the strange circus flair, but there were too many other oddities in this killing game for Cyrus to even acknowledge it. Jezebel closed the door behind herself, leaning against the door frame just as before. “So I say again, what’s your damage?”

“Damage?” Cyrus repeated. “Well, I guess that isn’t completely inaccurate. I’d rather call it our damage. It is, after all, no secret that we aren’t exactly on good terms.” He said, sighing. “Look, I’m just going to be forward here. You don’t seem like the type to appreciate bullshit. What you said during the trial fucking terrified me. That you broke into the pharmacy because you wanted to see the look on my face, amongst other things.” He paused for half a second, this time. “I’m not here to berate you for it. If this is something that happened partially because of our antagonism, I think myself partially responsible.” He gritted his teeth, but his gaze unwavered, keeping eye contact. “I am here to mend relations, simple as that.”

“Oh, like, I was wondering why you didn't say anything at the trial. You totally wanted to look cool in front of everyone.” She giggled. “Diplomacy's tre confusing isn't it? I so wanted everyone to come out of this alive, but you were totally standing on the moral high ground. It got a few people killed, but Krista's okay.” Her smile vanished. “Good thing her brother's okay though. Maybe they'll kidnap the niod for the next Night of Carnage?” Her smile returned. “Sorry! Like, we sorta got off topic there! Unless you can mend the dead, or mend Zachary's sight, I totally don't think there's anything you could do. Or you could like, not treat everyone like your pawns, I might be able to respect you more. ”

Cyrus scowled, but he tried to stay polite. “The reason I didn’t say anything was because it did not matter. Whether that was your primary motive or not, it wouldn’t have changed anything about the trial. What would we have gained fighting over it?” he paused for a second. “I will, however, admit it took me effort not to. The angry kind of effort.” He sighed, admitting that.
“I simply did what I thought was best. Some people agreed with me and helped, others didn’t. I told everyone from the beginning this was voluntary.” He shook his head. “You’re right though, morally I had the high ground. And I’m not even going to start about the ‘what ifs’, what has happened, happened.” He stated, simply. “I will, however, staunchly disagree with you on one thing. I care about the people in this killing game, and I do not treat any of them like pawns. I would’ve done this for anyone. Be it Krista, you or anyone else.” He grinned, averting his eyes for a bit. “I just hope I don’t have to prove that to you, for all of our sakes.”

Jezebel stared at Cyrus in silence. “Hmmm.” The jester tipped her head. “You're talking to a total bullshit artist, ya know?” She placed a hand on her hip. “If you want to make things good with me, you'll start acting like you care about more than the girls in your little clique. ” Jezebel took a step away from the door. She was pretty short beside Cyrus. Even with her cap, she wasn't as tall as the politician was. “I think you're here because you totally don't want that to happen again. Which is so a concern I share as well.” Jezebel pointed at the door with her thumb. “Like, you also might want to try a tumbler lock instead of a key lock. They're so much harder to get into, especially if you tre don't want people detecting your entry.” She winked at the politician.

“Just because I talk more to the people I’m closer to doesn’t mean I don’t care about the rest. However, you do have a point. Perhaps I haven’t shown it enough.” He nodded. “I believe your heart is in the right place, as is mine. Something like that during the trial shouldn’t have to happen.” He smiled, extending his hand before leaving. “Also, if you see him. Tell Zach I’m sorry for the things during the trial. I’ll tell him in person when I see him as well...” He added. “I don’t remember the details, but I know it was bad.” He looked genuinely embarrassed at that.

The Jester wordlessly shook his hand and watched him leave.

”Hey!”

Thomas sauntered down the hall, just before the pharmacy. Although he was a particularly sensitive person, he had found the soap in his room to be somewhat irritating. He had hoped he could find a suitable substitute with a more convenient composition, and had set off to search for unscented soap.

”Hey! Listen to me!”

Tch. Thomas stopped, and turned around. The all too familiar voice of Lucy told him who it was before her second word, and he was not pleased by this development. It seemed like his basic courtesies had been misinterpreted as an invitation to converse with him. Even if it wasn’t misinterpreted, Thomas could think of at least one other thing he could do with the time he’d waste talking to Lucy.

On Lucy’s end, things could not be any less opposite. She was brimming with excitement, and it was practically oozing off of her. She was unashamedly proud of her performance during the trial, and she found her lack of praise extremely jarring. It wasn’t like she was disillusioned by this behavior, and she wasn’t delusional enough to find this unexpected. It was just different. Lucy was used to being rewarded with praise.

”Fwahaha! I knew you’d listen to me. You’re practical-”

Thomas cut Lucy off. ”Get to the point.”

”Oh. Uh... “ Lucy shook her head, and lifted her chin. She placed both of her hands on her hips. ”I mean, don’t you have anything to say to me?”

Thomas tilted his head, and turned to face away from Lucy. ”No.”

”W-What?” Lucy took both her hands off her hips and walked in front of Thomas to face him. ”Here, I know that it might fluster you to be around me so I’ll give you a hint. You can start by thanking me for solving this trial by myself. Here, I’ll even say You’re Welcome in advanced.”

Thomas glared at Lucy. One glance would tell it all. Thomas was not up for another roast argument. He had already decided the conversation with Ellie was a mistake, and ultimately a waste a time. Satisfied that his glare would have dealt with her, he began to step around her.

”Fwahaha. That look says it all. You're just jealous of how much more I contributed than you." Lucy lowered her chin, and looked at Thomas. "Aren’t you going to eat breakfast with me and Jezebel? We’re heading to the same location after all, so even if you’re being envious I’ll still accompany you.”

”Oh? Is that so?” Thomas stopped, and turned around to face Lucy. ”May I remind that we’re in a killing game? Admittedly, prodigy, you don’t know very much about me at all. I wonder though, if I was the sensitive type, how would I go about paying back such behavior?”

Lucy frowned, and furrowed her brows. ”Nope. I refuse to answer. You rescued, or, attempted to rescue me during the night of carnage. Knowing that, you obviously understand how great I am, so I’m not worried about you trying to hurt me at all!”

Thomas froze for a moment, and placed both his hands together. ”Ah, you saw right through me. If I was going to kill someone, your derision during the trial would be invaluable to acquitting me.”

Lucy herself froze, thinking through Thomas’s backhanded compliment, before a scowl settled in on her face.

Thomas turned, and started walking again. ”Anyways, I’m on the second floor, so I obviously have other business before we meet at the study. You can use the time you’re waiting for me to scrounge your belongings for any battery powered electronics. Take the batteries out and bring them with you to the study, they’ll help me with a little project I’ve been working on.”

Lucy was still fuming over Thomas’s insult, but she still acknowledged what Thomas said. ”Huh? Batteries... Are you trying to build something?”

But Thomas didn’t hear, or at least pretended not to hear her. He walked straight past the pharmacy, and through the stairs to the third floor.

Imagine.

You fall asleep.
In the stream of dreams
You float along and
Away drift your memories.

You forget the bad that happened,
You forget what weighed you down,
You forget your doubts and worries,
The reasons why you frowned.

You forget those who wronged you,
You forget what they have done,
You forget what has already ended
And what has just begun.

The stream picks up speed.
You cannot swim ashore.
The flow is unending
As you lose more and more.

You forget those who loved you,
You forget what was before,
You forget who you are and
What you are for.

Then it ends.
You wake up and blink.
There is nothing left anymore.
You don't know what to think.

This is your life.
Every morning you wake,
You start all over again
With a blank slate.

—Daimyon Londe: Tabula Rasa

The morning announcement came abruptly, jolting Daimyon out of a dream. It was so sudden, in fact, that he forgot almost the entirety of his dream right away, only retaining bits and pieces. The centrepiece of it, he could still recall, was a white swallow. As he sat up on the bed and reached for his notebook—reading the first page for a start, as he had done every morning—, he wrote down what he remembered from his interrupted dream. There he could see that the swallow was a reoccurring element and wondered about the bird's significance. Time was short, however, and he knew that he had to address much more important concerns first. Flipping to the most recent pages, he started reading his entries in backwards chronological order.

It took a while, but the poet finally felt ready to embark on the day. After showering and getting dressed, he set out, notebook and e-handbook both in hand. His destination was the break room at the other end of the first floor where he could get some breakfast. He was also hoping to meet some of the new arrivals whose profiles had just been added to the system. Other than these vague goals, though, there was not much on his agenda today. As he walked through the hallway in silence, a sort of serenity descended on him. Yesterday's tragedies felt like a distant memory, the concert preparation that had engulfed the previous days even more so. There was nothing good and nothing bad pressing down on him at the moment. It was certainly a strange feeling.

A day had passed. The newcomers had been introduced and most people were recuperating from the trial; a trial with a heavy hit. Not only did they lose a doctor, they lost a brother. As expected, it took a toll, as every death before did; yet at this rate it wouldn’t be long before there was nothing left to take.

Even from people like Max, one of the most upstanding and just individuals, could death take a piece of his mind. As he stood up from his bed once more, the effects of this could be seen. Where there was once a noble and confident fellow stepping outside into the world, a brooding dead-serious man now walked the hallways of Axis-Mundi.

As he passed the break-room on the first floor, he couldn’t help but notice the infinites trying their hardest to overcome their situation. They choose to keep going and endure the pain, but there was something innately wrong with that. This would keep going, and for every day they endured another would always come. There was no enduring this; it wasn’t a game of attrition or survival. There was a time limit, and Felix’s death taught this to Max.

If they didn’t find a way to escape soon, they would never; with those thoughts, Max made his way to the cave; on his way however, the sound of music drew him in. It reminded him of the party, and of his brothers beautiful display.

As he got closer though, he stopped dead in his tracks, they were Alice and Ice talking with…one of the new kids. Before any could spot him, Max swiftly moved behind a wall next to the door and kept listening.

Most of it was uninteresting chatter, but one thing certainly wasn’t…Alice had been talking to Parker behind all their backs, and discussed something of utmost interest. It would require more looking into in the meeting.

But then the new kid suddenly decided to leave the room, and it forced Max to leave unseen as well. Whatever conversation came after was not within his earshot, as he was now getting in position in the cave, where a faithful meeting would take place soon enough.

Bliss stumbled out of her room. She had told Emily that she didn't feel like making breakfast today, but she also knew that she had to get out of her room. She needed to distance herself from her head, and that wasn't going to happen in a room locked up with her thoughts. She needed to talk to someone. Bliss found herself walking towards the dining room on the second floor.

Jezebel was humming a tune to herself while she scuffed across the hospital floors. If the events of last night had any effect on her, it wasn't present in her smile. She was practically bounding down the hallways to get somewhere. A “La la la la...” escaped her lips as she kept on skipping, right into the small cubicle that held the reception desk. Once she was in front of the microphone, she pulled it closer to herself and made an announcement for all to hear. “Testing, testing, 1-2-3-testing! Like, I always wanted to do that.” A giggle escaped her lips. “Baldwins and Betties, I'm sure I totally have your attention. Like, we're going to have a coalition meeting and junk, so like, you should totally come for that. We'll be having it at the study pretty soon, and we totally won't be waiting for any noids. So be there, or be square.” Jezebel closed off the com link and started to skip back towards the study. “La la la la...”

Noah hadn’t gotten as much information as he had liked, but it was a start. The boy sat up from the hospital bed and looked down at his watch, it still was only 1:13 AM. No one would be up for hours, which meant new information would be scarce. Noah took a quick look at the handbook he had studied dutifully and switched to the map section. It hadn’t been very different from his own previous game, but he still wanted to find any dissimilarity that he could. After scrolling through the different floor plans, he decided to go have a look himself. The small Biologist stepped out of the bed, slipped on his clothes, and quietly let himself out of his room on the second floor.

It wasn’t too hard to move quietly as Noah already normally stepped as light as a feather. The more vibration on the ground, the more chance a beaker would fall and break, so Noah had tried to change his step accordingly. Of course, these countermeasures didn’t do much good when it came to his spatial awareness. He still seemed to run into tables and knock over piles of books in the Study, or run into one of the chairs in the waiting room of the first floor hospital wing. He had dismissed the vault and ‘Alice Parker’ for the moment, wanting to look into it with a fresh pair of eyes in the morning. As he wrote down notes in the notebook he found in the Store, he thought back to last night’s events.

After the words from Daimyon, the Biologist knew he wasn’t the only one who thought Juliette looked petrified. He had given the two new Infinites his introduction and then stirred the Horologist towards the break room with the Infinite Caretaker and Politician. There they had enjoyed a nice cup of tea and had gotten a quick summary of the killing game’s events from Cyrus. Noah went over the rules with Juliette, trying to read between the lines, but alas, he would have to hear everyone’s accounts before he could really understand what happened.

The Patient’s Quarter’s in both games were pretty much the same, but the ‘attractions’ were a bit different. The cave-like like structure called “Aladdin’s Palace” the most curious of them all. Noah took a quick scan of the normal amenity rooms and quickly finished up, noting that the kitchen was closed off during nighttime. The boy went back to his room and slipped inside, dropping off his coat and other apparel before hopping into bed. The room was dark, but not completely blackened. It was filled with experimental equipment and powders, almost identical to the room he had lived in in his last killing game. But nothing was rearranged, which meant any experiment he had been working on would have to be started anew.

When he woke up a few hours later to the morning announcement. He set an alarm on his watch and got up before heading into the shower. He would need something to wake him up and Noah knew the coffee would probably be awful compared to his own dabblings. After a quick shower, the boy did the bare minimum to dry off his hair and got changed before heading out for Juliette’s room. After using the Handbook to find her room number- or should it be letter? He arrived and gave the door a polite knock.

Noah was still worried about her. She hadn’t been injured, but her psychological state had been shot, turning phantom symptoms into reality. With the sleeping drug came fatigue, a slight inflammation in the throat, dizziness, and a bad headache. It was a wonder that the girl had been able to stay up as long as she had with those symptoms and almost having a panic attack. The Biologist was used to some of the symptoms and had come up with coping mechanisms, but a normal girl? That was just a horrendous combination. The boy would have liked to give a follow up to his examination but after last night... he might be pushing it.

The Horologist herself found herself having been awake for hours before the morning announcement, sitting at the small desk in her assigned quarters (thankfully the layout of Axis Mundi was much better understood after a debriefing the evening prior over tea) with an assortment of watchmaker tools and trinkets spread out before her. She had managed to get her wristwatch to work again (it required a little winding and a replacement battery, all of which was suspiciously provided in her chambers) and was in the midst of fixing her pocket-watch. As she did, she too reflected on the events of the evening prior.

The most memorable Infinite was Noah, for he was not only a new arrival, but someone who assisted her in understanding her surroundings. She had quickly scanned over the E-handbook and been dismissive of it, putting it away the first chance she got. She only pulled it up again when locations and rules were being mulled over and discussed. It wasn’t difficult to understand, but Juliette would do well to commit the rules and the locations to memory as soon as possible.

As for the most memorable event? It was when the Infinite Biologist had attempted a check-up.

“Good morning…” Juliette yawned, opening the door to face her companion from the evening prior. The tone of her voice turned the statement into a question, and though she looked better than the last time the two had spoken, it was now that the fatigue hit her like a truck and caused all her limbs to ache dully. Or perhaps the adrenaline had finally worn off.

“Good morning, Miss Juliette. How are you feeling? Hungry?” He took a short glance at the bedroom behind her, though the room wasn’t very illuminated. Mostly different clock components and the like. He gave the taller girl a smile, “I can smell the bacon from here if you’d like to join me for some breakfast.”

“...!” Immediately, formerly dull icy eyes lit up from behind black rimmed spectacles that she found in her room that were the perfect lenses. “Yes!” she interjected before catching both herself and her protesting stomach. “Please. Yes. Food…”
Again, her gut growled in firm agreement. If Noah would have noticed, she was dressed haphazardly, as if having woken suddenly and gotten to work right away and mindlessly. Still, it did not seem to bother her, even though her labcoat was inside out and a few buttons remained unbuttoned on the top of her blouse and just about revealed the lavender and lacy border of her b-
“...I would like that, yes. Thank you…"

It took a few moments of Noah’s head processing her attire to realize she might be embarrassed later by how she looked, “Miss- um, you might want to fix your clothes. First impressions are rather important and we’ll be meeting quite a few of our new colleagues so...” He coughed, “I’ll be out here.” He closed the door on her and stood in the hall. No one was really milling about, but he could hear sounds coming from the distant resort on their floor. Noah looked down at his own clothes and although they were rumpled, he hadn’t gotten into his chemicals so the coat still looked pristine and white.

“Mn…?” the Horologist was initially confused, but a look in the mirror provided enough of a jolt to wake her up, coupled with washing her face over again to try and cool the manic blush on her cheeks, because did she really just-
“Um. Thank you.” she reappeared out the door, looking more put together than before. She still wore the spectacles but was more presentable, for sure. “...let us go.” And that would be that, and she would pretend the former incident had never happened.

“Let’s~! I’m starving,” While his earlier attitude was a bit more analytical, now that everyone was awake, breakfast time would be perfect for getting to know everyone’s personalities. The Biologist started for the Diner along with Juliette and as they arrived they watched two Infinites leave. Trying to identify them by just their backs, Noah gave a quick glance at his Handbook, “I wonder where those two are off to...” He murmured, then grabbed for the Diner door.

When Noah opened it, a wave of delicious food brushed up his nose and even his own stomach growled. He could hear movement further in through the kitchen, but didn’t see too many of the infinites in the seating room itself. That’s when they heard the unforeseen announcement.

“They must be over there.” Juliette voiced her thoughts, almost as if having read Noah's as well. Of course, she was referencing the study for this so-called coalition meeting. But it was a curious decision to make between food and socialising. Since both were equally important, she offered up a suggestion, “Should we take our plates over to the study? Are we allowed to? It isn't far, I think.”

His stomach growled again, signalling support to her argument, “I suppose it won’t matter much, it’s not like the others probably have a say anyway. I’ll probably just make a breakfast sandwich out of what’s available and get going. Let’s hurry though! I want to hear what they have to say!” With that he hurried ahead of Juliette and into the kitchen.
