You're welcome to disagree, but lootboxes and microtransactions are paths to disingenuous business practices. Full stop. Given I've played SWTOR and NBA2k for what seems like an eternity, I think I have some merit to my issues with it. I’m genuinely pleased Battlefront got the shit it did in the press (Jim Sterling and many others) and I’m thankful that it got EA to get their head out of their ass for five seconds. Now if only others can understand this before gamer apathy sinks them.

Also, NBA2k18 was getting shit on from about all angles for its microtransactions, so I don’t think you know what you’re talking about for once.

See, here's how I look at it. Feel free to laugh at me as much as you want (as it's clear you've already set your mind in stone) but look. A game that's not multiplayer costs the same as a MMO on a console, for the initial purchase - or at least relatively close right? Do we agree on that so far?

Okay, then what you are mad about is, the MMO team that continues to work on updates, fix errors, work on new content and expansions and a bunch of other things try to incorporate a way for them to get paid for their continued work.

But I see your point, they should do all that for free for years after the release, because you shouldn't have to pay for anything in this life. Games should be made for you free of charge. :P

Maybe they could make it to where the game costs like $120 bucks one-time-expense, and all content further on is free? That could give 'em enough momentum to continue paying the wages to support the game for a few years after the release. ***shrugs*** I dunno. Another thing is EA has kinda got a monopoly on the multiplayer industry for consoles, so maybe if another company gets their shit together we could get some competitive prices goin' on. Either way, EA isn't goin' anywhere and I look forward to Anthem still.

I played SWTOR off and on from launch up until KOTET and the microtransactions are the only thing keeping that game going for better or worse, and it's mostly tailored towards people who want to cosplay or have aggressively annoying mounts. Free to play players having to drop five bucks for quality of life stuff is pretty much a staple of F2P MMOs which SWTOR is now since the point is to get players interested and engaged enough to spend the 15 dollars even for a month. The worst part of free to play isn't the lack of a run feature - back in my day we didn't even get the ability to run until level 15 and we had to go through at least Taris/Balmorra and half of Nar before we even got speeders - but the credit limits because the GTN is full of price gouging. You haven't really played SWTOR until you do the Dune Sea without a mount because you don't have 25k credits and you're in shitty gear because no one runs flashpoints due to no group finder.

I’ve played since Beta, so you’re kind of talking to someone who’s the same as you. Just letting you know. So that kind of "in my day shit" is a little hilarious to me.

Games do do this. Ubisoft does it. You buy their Ultimate Golden Explorer's Edition or whatever and it comes with the 30 dollar season pass so you just get all the post-release content for free since you paid upfront.

And then Assassin's Creed still offers premium currency for people that would rather instantly get their extra stabby sword instead of do it the long way.

'Kay, sounds good to me. But just making a final post to say I'm speaking to you in those posts, hence the quoting. Straight to you :P

From what I've read into it, the head's at EA say all the loot boxes and such will be for cosmetics only.

I agree to some extent. In fact, I'd go as far to say that the practice itself is disingenuous.

I'd thought that everyone had the common sense to come to the conclusion that paid loot boxes are bad by now. They are, and have always been, a play on the same psychology that things like trading cards and casinos abuse. It's funny to think about how both of those practices saw similar controversies at some point. Is it possible that business practices which aim to quite literally manipulate people into spending more money, are dishonest and could be very unhealthy? Especially when exposed to children and teenagers that have yet to develop the skills needed to properly manage their money? In a social dogma where people prefer to spend, rather than think?

Could loot-box practices maybe, just possibly, be a major and valid point of contention? A significant issue that warrants the backlash it attracts? Could this trend suck ass? Could it be just as important, if not more important, than the nebulous and completely erroneous social effects that video game themes have otherwise? I dunno, man.

These issues persist. Regardless of whether or not companies exist to earn money, which is perfectly valid, they do so through contempt-worthy means constantly. To dismiss things like loot boxes and pay-to-skip tactics as non-issues is pretty silly.

Okay, then what you are mad about is, the MMO team that continues to work on updates, fix errors, work on new content and expansions and a bunch of other things try to incorporate a way for them to get paid for their continued work.

...Subscription fees? I mean, theme-park MMO's have become grind-trash after WoW went soft, and sandbox MMO's have the potential to fail miserably for the same reason that RPs fail on this miserable website. The MMO genre is a huge money sink for producers, and doesn't have as much potential to pay out as people seem to think. The only reason things like WoW and FFXIV are so huge, is because they have a solid fan base to leech off of. F2P MMOs are a dime a dozen, with only a few actually seeing any success. Even then, a lot of F2P MMOs have crashed and burned after living out their life-span.

Have you played FFXIV levels 1-60? It's absolutely fucking garbage. Had to be the worst experience in any MMO I've ever had to endure. WoW's 1-70 during MoP wasn't much better, either.

To be fair, all MMO's are bad, so why even play them in the first place? kappa.

The only MMO I'm kind of excited for is Pantheon which may see a 2019 open beta release. It looks promising, kind of.

Resident evil 2 Remake looks amazing. Also...
