Pokemon Masters:
World Cup

Player Manual

Posting Rules:

Rule 1: Behavior: Abide by all Role Player Guild rules. Basically, don't be a butt face.

Rule 2: Posting Speed: Never post twice in a row. Wait for at least one other person. Also, don't post more than twice per day. I don't want a small group of people volleying posts back and forth in rapid fire succession, effectively spamming the RP with your personal story arc.

Rule 3: Posting Length: Please keep posts between one and three paragraphs. This RP is in the casual category for a reason.

Rule 4: Proper Formatting: Your IC posts should be titled with the name of your character and their general location. Then you will write the body of your post. At the bottom of your post, you should tag every user with a character that was directly or indirectly mentioned in your post.

How to start a battle:

Simply, challenge your opponent via IC posting and begin your battle as a posting back and forth battle. Then (through PMs or the OOC section) set a time when you can both be online for a Pokemon Showdown battle. The winner of the battle will be responsible for linking the battle replay to their IC post where they will also describe how they won the battle. NOTE: You do not have to mention everything (or even ANYTHING) that happened in the Showdown battle. Showdown is only used to determine an end result.

The above paragraph describes the process for battles between a MAIN character and another MAIN character OR a MAIN character and a SIDE character. But to save time, if two SIDE characters battle, there is also the option to roll a 2 sided dice (AKA coin flip) for a winner.

Pokemon Showdown Rules:

Rule 1: Correct Format: Always build your teams under the 'Anything Goes' format.

Rule 2: Pokemon Levels: The Pokemon for your MAIN characters should be set at level 100. The Pokemon for your SIDE characters should be set at level 90.

Rule 3: Pokemon Customization: You may freely set your Pokemon's gender, happiness level, shiny status, ability, move set, item, nature, and IVs. BUT DO NOT use the same item on two different Pokemon. ALSO, z-crystals and Mega Stones are temporarily banned; they will be allowed later in the tournament.

Rule 4: Mega Evolutions and Z-crystals: As mentioned above, Mega Stones and Z-crystals will be allowed later in the tournament. Specifically, Z-crystals will be allowed in Phase 2, and Mega Stones will be allowed in Phase 3. Trainers cannot start off with their Pokemon already Mega-evolved; that must be done in-battle, via Mega Stone.

Choosing Your Pokemon:

As a highly experienced trainer, your character should have access to a wide variety of Pokemon, but they are not allowed to bring their entire collection with them. They are only allowed to bring TEN. Six of these Pokemon must be revealed as the party you register for the tournament. The other four are reserve Pokemon that can be used later in the tournament (i.e. Pokemon that you don't choose right now).

Pokemon Party Rules:

Rule 1: Base Stats: To be accepted into the tournament, you must register a party of six that has a cumulative base stat less than or equal to 3000. This limit will increase in later rounds. Also, Pokemon with a mega stone are considered to have a base stat equal to the average of their Mega form and their pre-mega form

Rule 2: Tier Restriction: You may not use Pokemon from the Uber or OU tier. This restriction will loosen later in the tournament.

Rule 3: Multiple Pokemon: You may not use two Pokemon from the same species in your party. For example, you cannot have two Pikachu, but you can have a Pikachu and a Raichu.

Rule 4: Legendary / Mythicals: Because Legendary and Mythical Pokemon are so rare outside the Nishi region, I don't want any two trainers to have the same Legendary or Mythical Pokemon. So once someone claims one of these Pokemon, that Pokemon becomes off limits to everyone else. I say "once someone claims one of these Pokemon" because they could reveal a Legendary or Mythical as one of their four reserve Pokemon later in the tournament.

The Nishi Region:

High speed rails connect towns and cities in the Nishi Region, thus making it easy to navigate. Trainers may also go off the beaten path to explore less frequently visited areas and unmarked locations. Speaking with locals is a good way to figure out where to go and how to get there.

The Tournament:
The Nishi Region's "Wold Cup" tournament, is played out in three distinct phases:

Phase 1: The Free-for-All Round: Fifty trainers have been invited to compete. This round is designed to weed them out and find the best of the best. Trainers may not challenge someone that has less wins AND more losses than their self. To move forward, trainers must win three battles. Everyone is given a Nishi region Pokedex upon arrival that also serves as a way to communicate with other participants, thus enabling you to challenge someone far away and arrange a meet-up.

Phase 2: The Group Stages: Only 16 trainers will make it to Phase 2. Here everyone will be put into groups of four. Trainers will battle everyone in their group once. A win is worth 10 points, and you gain one bonus point for every Pokemon in your party that didn't faint. The top two trainers from each group will make it to Phase 3.

Phase 3: The Knockout Rounds: The remaining 8 trainers will battle it out in a single elimination tournament to determine our grand prize winner. Trainers will have to choose their teams BEFORE knowing who their opponent will be, because contestants will be shuffled before each knockout round.

Alright Everyone!

This RP is ready to go! Also, if you are reading this for the first time, this RP is still open. The people tagged above have shown interest, but until I have approved a MAIN character for someone, their spot in this RP is not guarunteed. Right now, I'm thinking that I will allow up to eight users.

Let me know if you have any questions or if you are working on a character sheet and would like me to tentatively hold your spot.

I'm going to break this rule so hard. I can be incredibly verbose, but I will try to cut down on that.

Well, here's my character, adapted from a previous Pokemon RP than fell through. The 3000 base state limit was more annoying than I thought, even though I knew that means a average base stat total of only 500; I had to change my team around a little to accommodate.

I'll be reserving a spot. I have a lot on my plate at the moment, so I can't work on my CS right away.

Haha! Well try your best not to break that rule often or by too much, but I understand.

I like your character. Everything is perfect. Good job. You can move this character over to the Character section.

I have three more side characters ready in the wings. I'll wait for more people to get their main character approved first though. :)

Well, I think this should do. I wish I had an image for appearance and I did look but sadly finding images that I like never seems to work out for me. I also feel I could have written some bits better but it shall serve and I shall live. Let me know if I made any mistakes, or share your thoughts in general.

First, congrats on sliding into home plate with the base stat requirement, 2998, only 2 points away from the 3000 limit.

Secondly, when I was reading his appearance and personality, I found it strange that such an ordinary trainer was selected to compete in this tournament filled with extraordinary people. Then I read the last sentence in his biography and had to smile as you acknowledged this peculiarity. So out of respect for your cheekyness, I started to think of WHY this character might have received an invite. I'm happy to report that I DID find a compelling reason for this that can tie in nicely with the hidden plot of this RP.

So, in short, your character passes inspection. You may submit him to the 'Characters' section.

Thank ye kindly, I look forward to learning of this plot you are weaving, and I look forward to seeing how I may add my own thread into it. Out of curiosity what do you think of the team? I'll admit to a general lack in experience in competitive pokemon battling and so I doubt my team makeup is particularly amazing but as far as flavor is concerned I think it is suiting.

I'll throw together a side character or two if you don't mind, if only to sate my desire to build teams and to help round out the roster for this tournament.

Yes, please do. And when I approve of your side characters, simply put them in hiders underneath your main characters hider, in that same post.

Oh, and I like your character's Pokemon party. Seems very fitting.

Name: Daniel Cross
Alias: N/A
Title: Colosseum Champion
Age: 25

Appearance:

Personality: Daniel is a rather nice person to those who know him and don't use Pokemon to commit crimes. However, if he does run into someone who does use Pokemon to commit crimes that person can expect to be challenged to a battle and have their Pokemon taken from them and turned over to the proper authorities. He has zero tolerance for Pokemon abuse due to being raised in the Orre Region and having around during the two Shadow Pokemon incidents. He does have a soft side for people who have been forced into gangs and will sometimes offer to help them turn their lives around.

Biography: Daniel was born in Pyrite Town and as such was raised in a rather rough environment due to the constant street battles and the fact that overall, Pyrite was a rather rough town to grow up in. He was around ten years old when Miror. B rolled on through the town and took down Duking by taking his Pokemon hostage. The town was nearly taken over completely by Cipher and at one point, Daniel was beaten up by a couple of Cipher goons who grew mad at his constant outbursts towards them and the fact that he would occasionally throw rocks at passing Cipher member and on a few occasions drew Anti-Cipher graffiti on their original HQ in Pyrite. He was saved by the police chief at the time after the Cipher goons were done with him. At the insistence of Chief Sherles, Daniel laid low during the Shadow Pokemon incident and was able to see the downfall of Evice and the current Cipher organization.

Over the years between the two Shadow Pokemon Incidents, Daniel was able to acquire a small number of Pokemon and showed them the compassion and understanding that they needed and as such formed a strong bond with them. He laid low during the second Shadow Pokemon Incident as well as he trained his Pokemon to become stronger. As time went by, he heard rumors that a small number of Cipher members had escaped from the Orre Region and had gone underground while trying to rebuild the organization. He made it his life's mission to track down the surviving members of Cipher and bring them in for crimes against both Pokemon and the various people they had stolen them from. As the years went by, he managed to take down a large number of Cipher members and was able to turn them in, but there was one that always seemed to avoid capture. After receiving a tip about the Nishi region and hearing rumors that his target may have gone off the grid, he figured that the sole remaining Cipher leader may have somehow managed to smuggle himself into the Nishi region and was hunting down various Pokemon. Knowing the region had closed it's borders, all he could do was write letters to the leaders of the Nishi Region, begging them to let him in to try so he could try and end the threat to the Pokemon of the region and finally putting an end to Cipher forever. His invitation to the Nishi region was eagerly accepted and he immediately started on his way.

Pokemon Party:

Gyarados, Male, Intimidate, Adamant
Ursaring, Female, Early Bird, Jolly
Aggron, Male, Sturdy, Gentle
Nuzleaf, Female, Chlorophyll, Timid
Kabutops, Male, Battle Armor, Adamant
Arcanine, Female, Blaze, Rash

@Chev

So I'm not all that familiar with the Colleseum arc or the two Shadow Pokemon incidents. My question to you is this: are these events in a separate timeline form Ash Ketchum's legacy. Remember that this RP takes place three generations after Ash Ketchum. Does this fit in with the timeline you've mentioned?

As far as I know, the Orre region has not been explored yet. There are no mentions of either Ash or the Hero from the Colosseum in the other's respective regions. I don't know if this can be accepted or not. I'm hoping we might be able to but I am prepared to redo the CS if need be.

As long as the two regions never crossed paths as you say. I'm prepared to accept your character sheet as is. I will say this however. Your paragraphs could be edited down, condensed. It feels like you repeat yourself a few times.

You can work on that in your spare time, but feel free to go ahead and place this in the Character section.

@Balthazar007 Things seemed to have slowed down a little bit. How many characters were you hoping to get before starting?

Here's my first side character. I'll probably add another two or three when I get the time.

@King Cosmos,
As long as your Pokemon's base stats are below 3000, this character sheet is also approved. You can place this hider underneath your main character's, in the same post.

As for the pace and my intent for this RP, I think I'm going to run with less people and find a quicker way to get through Phase 1 of the tournament. I'm going to work it all out tomorrow. Time for bed. :)

To all those that have already created a character sheet: @King Cosmos@neogreggory@Chev,
And to all those that haven't, but HAVE shown interest: @DocTachyon@Tenma Tendo@GarlandDaHero@Sketcher,
And to all those that may be reading this for the first time,

I would like to put an official window up for when this RP will start. I have a lot going on in life at the moment, and I am so close to finishing my first full length novel. SO, I'm thinking that I'm going to give this RP two months breathing room, for accepting new characters.

In this time, I will check on this RP regularly for the expressed purpose of approving new characters. Even if you already have a main character, you may still apply for side characters, but only submit one for approval at a time. If you have not yet submited a main character, you have two months to do so.

At the end of these two months, I SHOULD be finished with my novel (at least as far as a first self edited draft is concerned). At that point, this RP will close to new users. Only those that have got a main character submitted will be allowed to help me fill the rest of the roster with side characters.

Thank you all! Sorry I can't be more hands on for a while, but I hope everyone is still excited for this grand tournament adventure!

I realize it has been more than a few months and that this is probably not actually happening, and I also realize that with two games of D&D in my life on top of my various other activities that I probably don't have time for this even if it did start, I would like to state that I would still be invested in this and interested in at least trying to partake should it have life breathed into it again.
