“Well I've finished my studies really, but I guess you could take it that way.” Mosi nodded a reply to Reddish. Being taken for a student was a weird thing to happen, but it could be worse. Better a student than a good for nothing housewife somewhere. She shuddered just at the thought of that boring lifestyle, white picket fences, adorable dresses and having to slave away for a family with no personal advancement aside raising children.” Well yeah, weird random event stuff happened and here I am too.” She nodded.

With that said she returned to her meal. Which consisted of the steak and some salad with a beer! The steak was good and as a proper American she bloody loved a good steak. Beer was also good, granted beer she picked up mostly during her smithing training, but she really loved a cold beer during a hot day! The salad itself was decent, she wasn't as big of a fan of veggies, but a person needed them well enough and they made for a perfect side dish for the steak.

Having more or less finished that, she called for dessert while Vera started recounting the tale of the branding and stuff that was happening around Cairo. It turned out the story had well started before she arrived with interesting events happening. She found it curious that people seemed to be dying though. That didn't bode well, but then again death itself was impossible to avoid sooner or later, she'd better enjoy life even more!

As the story was finishing, Vera seemed to invite the others to her room. It was fine really, frankly Mosi didn't care about that. She was going to spend some time on the main deck beck before returning to her room for sleep tonight. Listen and watch to the river and stuff. It was a nice place for inspiration and she might get inspired for a quick drawing or sketch. Seemed like the soldier fellow invited Josephine to a walk too. Hmm did her going for a walk of her own count as breaking in on their flirting though? She really wasn't sure about that one.

Anyhow, putting those thoughts to the side, she threw a glance around, but nothing really stood out. It was an ordinary dinner. Everyone was having their supper and nothing out of the ordinary she could see. Yeah she had to get away form here soon. Thus she finished the last of the dessert in a few last big bites.” It's been a great evening for me tonight, but if you excuse me I will take my leave now.” She said and stood up.” I wish you all a great evening.” She added with a smile and started heading for the stairs for the main deck.

Mahendra Huq Zalil

Location: Second Deck (Personal Cabin)

Dreams are an interesting concept to think about, isn't it? A state of mind for the human body to freely sail from the oceans of reality and fiction, but never be entirely certain which is which. Mahendra's case was perhaps no different, as the shores of England warped into a mixture of colours and shapes he could only relate to something divine and ultimate, yet completely comprehensible for him. It was as if he felt the presence of someone...something watching carefully over him as Mahendra involuntarirly jumped into the sea of a thousand colours, into the unknown.

The bottomless chasm of unfathomable, yet tangible matter gave way to the sound of voices speaking in strange tounges. Mahendra did not understand, but could slowly feel the air below him evaporate, only to be replaced by the firm feel of something to sit on. The ground? A chair? A bench, with a long table before it. A lecture hall. The Indian man, formerly a merchant's son and a soldier, was now a student, but a student of what? The tounges, their now visible eyes all looked to Mahendra for answers to questions he didn't understand. But the presence he felt before now revealed themselves to him; Saraswati, the Goddess of Wisdom and Knowledge, held her wise eyes over him and helped him to understand. Earth? The ground, deep below...He now understood, and could finally answer in that same tounge.

Yes, he knew the answer.

Location: Lower Deck (Dining Area)
Location: Observation, People-Reading

What the lower levels of the steamboat lacked in class and the strict social order of the upper money-grabbers of the social elite, it more than made up for in volume, enjoyment and oddities. Richard too noticed the snake-duo, giving Faye a quick look before watching the snake slither around the women to the sound of the music. "Looks like it. Last time I saw anything like that, an old lady thought it was going to eat her dog. They're harmless, at least like that." Richard assured Faye, before she answered him about her background. That was the cue for him to be quiet, listen and enjoy his first meal of the day.

The food and beer was better than expected, but then again how low had his expectatins been when he first took that job? Probably lower than a working girl's standars on a cold December night in Time Square during Mass, but hey it was better than eating out of a dumbster. While Faye began to tell her story, Richard combined his eating and listening with looking around. For what? People with less than good intentions, so to say. Who knew what types of people roamed that Deck, and how attractive Faye and Richard might have seen to someone looking for a quick buck. But his bad-guy scanning provided nothing, perhaps due to his attention being drawn back to what Faye told him.

"You mean that she was your sister? The so-called Devil Murder?" Richard knew that he was stating the obvious with his question, but he had read about that murder when it first happened. Gruesome affair it was, even if it possibly couldn't be true devil worship. Having finished his plate and most of his beer, Richard pulled out a cigarette and searched for a quick way to light it. A candle to his right would suffice, and he turned back to Faye now with a lit cigarette in his mouth. Was it getting hot in there? Probably the spicy food.

"It's okay. I'm sorry about her, Faye. Like you say, it's probably more to it than simple Devil worship if she had her wits about her. Probably not anything occult though, just some frantic way of trying to lead the police on a wild goose chase. Damn good one too, gave them more tricks than a car full of monkeys." Richard suggested as he finished his beer and took another drag of his burning cigarette. But damn it felt warmer than usual, and more smoking too. What Richard failed miserably to notice was the fact that his right sleeve was on fire from the candle. Liar, liar, sleeve's on fire!

Nora Kingston & Gene Benaszewski

Location: The Ferry - the Second Deck (Dining Area)
Skills: Irish Gaelic

Gene nodded a bit as Josephine's words - she had experienced things like this before, a group of unusual individuals coming together and it did not always turn out as hoped. Yet this group seemed to be decently comprised and well structured, something that she had to give them credit for. None of them made the old soul want to pull her hair out and scream. She then noted that one of them in particular - Mosi - seemed to be staring at her slightly. Gene made a final pattern with her wrapper and then began to tear it up into a chaotic and disordered pile. It made her think of a woman who was practically her sister - she hated chaos whilst Gene craved it.

Then there was the Other as Gene had mentally labeled him - he was over eager and desperate to prove himself. Yet from his description of his tasks for the Lord Major, Gene was a bit surprised. He seemed to be a glorified errand boy. As much as she wanted to take a moment to poke fun at the man and come up with a list of increasingly ridiculous questions, Lady Munn caught her attention with her tale. Gene's eyes were alight with excitement - and perchance a bit of glee as well? "I am most definitely going to be as involved in this as I can be," Gene said with a huge grin. "I may be a nurse by trade, but I know other things as well and might be able to help."

Nora was eating small portions of her food. She tended to eat only a little bit of each course - not because she disliked it or from rudeness, but simply because she didn't want to risk getting sea sick. So much of her life had been organized around precautions should her childhood illness return - both logical and illogical. The Corporal was certainly an interesting character and while Nora would not have accepted such an invitation, Josephine was a different woman. She couldn't help but admire Josephine's confidence.

"Ní bheadh mé ró-thromchúiseach dá mba é seo an tráthnóna seo caite..." Nora muttered under her breath in Gaelic at Mosi's departure. Her sudden use of manners somehow was a more grievous insult to Neema's memory. The woman was capable of manners and politeness, yet not when it came to the ever so recently deceased? It boggled Nora's mind and to her, it only betrayed an all the more extreme disregard for others. She couldn't help but wish that the 'student' would go and find a study to undertake elsewhere - brand or not.

Reginald Keystone

Location: The Ferry (Elite Deck Dining Area)
Skills: N/A

Reginald felt the need to explain his position a little further, as he did not actually wish to impose his preference of addressing Lauren in the formal when she was, apparently, a much more casual type of lady. In short: American. But that circumstance of birth could be overlooked, even forgiven, because she had every appearance of a decent sort despite a lack of knowledge of certain points of etiquette. "My apologies, madame. I only wish to preserve your standing among some of the more judgemental persons of the area. This social strata takes gossip as a natural dialect of English, I am afraid. Lauren then, as we are among our own people."

The after supper coffee was almost a ritual in this part of the world, though certainly it must have been abbreviated for service to a primarily upper-crust crowd generally could not be bothered with the true meaning of local culture. It seemed a pity to the Lord Major, who was ever so slightly disappointed to simply receive a demitasse of thick, black coffee with a selection of sweeteners and cream, if desired. He waved it away with a casual, "By Jove... I'd not insult the coffee today, there's a good lad." He inhaled deeply the steam that wafted from his small cup, then took a tiny sip. It was potent. The coffee from this area usually was.

Likewise was the explanation of his life of military service. Lauren's response was met with another disappointed look. Reginald quieted considerably, in volume and in terms of his bubbly, avuncular way of speaking. "I am afraid not, madame. It may be polite to say that I am estranged from my family. My wife withdrew from our marriage, and for good reason. I support them still, be it merely financially. But they wish nothing more to do with me. I cannot blame them either, you see. It is quite deserved." Another sip from his demitasse of particularly strong coffee and he continued his response to his dining partner, "I thank you for your condolences. He was a strong, brave lad. Honorable and decent. The world is poorer for the loss of him."

Conversation had taken a turn for the more depressing, certainly. Reginald mulled over the sense of loss that he had accumulated over the past few days. It was considerable, all at once. Lost in the jumble was Aziza Tarek, his one long-term friend that he had no relation to nor authority over. It was an honest relationship, platonic of course, and he found that he missed her greatly, mourning as if she was a family member. The old man sighed and finished off his cup in one fell gulp. He was anxious to be done with the day now. With a tired voice, he looked to Lauren. "I shall take you up on your offer, Mrs. Ridgeway. I am curious as to the nature of spirits from the Colonies these days." And truth be told, he could really go for a solid belt or three before turning in for the evening.

After the food, wrapped as to travel, had been presented to the table, Reginald offered over a socially acceptable gratuity and rose. "For the sake of propriety, madame, I shall escort you safely back to your quarters. I should be grateful to accept your family's fine distilled liquor at that time. Shall we?" He picked up the takeaway meal and offered his arm to the young woman.

Haring Reddish

Location: The Ferry (Second Deck Dining Area)
Skills: N/A

Corporal Reddish rose again as Mosi stood to excuse herself from the table (Again with the standing? Really?), and again came to rest in his seat. It seemed that the dessert course was making it rounds, and the headstrong Corporal was keen on being present for it. "Oh, excellent! I was definitely in the mood for something sweet tonight. Yes... Oh, waiter?" he inquired, waving his hand a bit to gain his attention outside of his capacity to drop off dessert, "After dessert is served proper, I would be so grateful if you could acquire a bottle of after-supper wine and two appropriate glasses, if you would, for carrying about? Umm... I am partial to Riesling; ah, Trockenbeerenauslese - any vintage or house will do - if you have got it, sir." Apparent from his request: He spoke a single-word mouthful in flawless German as if he were native to it. Not as apparent was that he didn't know so much about wines, outside of direct family experience.

He pulled a bank note from his coat pocket and handed it over to the server. Wine might be covered by his meal, but he had a feeling that this might be extra. And if it wasn't, well, the man probably got paid the equivalent of Nottingham Street Sweeper wages. Reddish knew what it was like to be a grunt.

The dessert that was put in front of him was not exactly world-class fare, but he took to it with a sort of enthusiasm that might be reserved for a surprise birthday present. It was a dish of rather simple looking rice pudding. He used the opportunity to tie it into something that Josephine had just mentioned, concerning the cuisine in Egypt. "You see, Miss Clarke? This is like what you were talking about, right? Ha! It's rice, right? Back home we'd use it as a side dish or, or um, ...use it for pheasant stuffing or some such, right? Right! But these Egyptians have this whole other perspective, adding different things and such to it, cooking it in ways I couldn't describe if I wanted. Now poof! It's a dessert." He took as large a spoonful as he dared, considering he was still trying his damnedest to use proper table manners and not just hork it back like the a common street urchin. "Bloody brilliant, this. Oops, pardon that language, ma'am." He reloaded his spoon, pausing enough to come to his actual point in agreeing with the starlet, "The spices here are indeed used beautifully, as you say." And he came full circle, finally.

He did note with some approval that Vera was being protective of the woman with whom he intended to usher about the ship's view of the Nile. Ordinary circumstances would place the counteroffer of drinks with the girls as a proper course of action. Expected, even. But Vera knew who he was. At least, he thought that she knew who he was. Come to think of it, he'd been acquainted with her, but they really had never had a single solid conversation, ever. Any time that he was in a room with her, it had been to pursue a duty for the Lord Major. Not to mention the class divide that existed between them. For that matter, how could she actually know him? It's not like he had ever been forthcoming with information about himself, even to his commanding officer. Okay, she was right to offer Josephine a way out. Corporal Reddish raised a eyebrow at their expedition's leader and gave her the tiniest of nods. "Good show, Lady Munn." he thought to himself.

Turning back to Josephine, Reddish reassured her with quieter voice, "I'll entertain no intentions that you do not as well, Miss Clarke. If drinks with the girls sounds better, even midway, I'll be tops finishing the stroll by my lonesome. Meantime, thank you for accepting."

He really was enjoying his dessert. And the whole "travel by boat" experience in general, so far. Perhaps they'd take this route back, riverboat and all, when they were done at the ruins. He'd like that. When done with his pudding, Corporal Reddish quietly placed his spoon back into the dish and looked expectantly to Josephine. "Well, a breathtaking view awaits. Wherever is that digestif?"

Deeper Than The Sands

Date: October 5th, 1924

All Decks: Dinner has concluded, those requesting a meal to go have had it brought to them on a covered platter that they may take themselves or instruct a member of the staff to take for them. Either way will be fine. The dishes are being cleared away on the Elite and the second Decks. There is a yell on the lower deck to bus your own plates to the table against the wall.

While dinner is over this does not mean it is time for bed. While some are going back to their rooms, most are only doing so to change into something other than dinner clothing. Entertainment will be starting shortly on all the decks, as well as gambling. Others will just be taking in the night air.

Remember your tickets, it allows you to certain places on the ship. Please note that if you are trying to go ~up~ a deck, to call for a roll! We will have to see if your character 1) Remembered it, 2) Hasn't lost it or 3) To see if it has been stolen. >.>

Character Proceeding Forward: Vera nodded towards Josephine and gave the starlet her room number. "Of course, enjoy your stroll," she said kindly before glancing around. It had been really the first time since all of this began that they are a group had been able to relax a bit. Though Vera was anything but right then, still wondering where the Lord Major and Miss Ridgeway were. She could only conclude that they had taken their meal on the Elite deck. She should have known so and gone to them personally to invite them to dine with the rest.

"Mmm, you too Miss," George said to Mosi as she left, standing up ad giving her a slight head nod. Looking at his sister he grinned a bit. "Mmm yes, she is very capable even if a bit disorganized," he said, poking a bit of fun at her before taking a step out from his seat and moving behind Vera as she went to rise. It was a good thing he did for she nearly fell flat onto the table as her foot hooked on the leg of the chair. He caught her and pulled her close.

"Oh dear me, I am nothing but ankles this eve it seems. Thank you," she said, stumbling over her words. George just nodded and waited until she was fully stable to let her go. Looking at Nora she gave a smile. "Well then shall we retire to my cabin for some tea and conversation?" she asked politely as she finally was able to step away from George. "Though I should try to locate the Lord Major before hand and let him know where we are," she added, thinking more to herself than actually speaking towards the others.

George gave a quick glance towards Gene before looking back at Vera. "Mmm, I can find him. You will be safe with my sister," he said as he motioned for Vera to go and stay close to Gene. Vera cocked a brow but nodded. She trusted George and if he could handle himself, couldn't his sister as well? "I will inform, mmm, you when I do," he added before walking off.

Vera watched him as he went to the stairs and showed his ticket before being let up to the Elite deck. Moving through the crowd as he looked around only to finally spot the two at a table about to leave. "Mmm, Lord Major Keystone. Miss Ridgeway. Mmm, good evening," he said as he gave a polite nod of his head.

Lauren Ridgeway

"That works perfectly for me then." Lauren said giving Reginald a slight smile, it was a nice compromise when they weren't among the others she wouldn't mind. She bit her bottom lip for a moment when Reginald mentioned his family, she wasn't sure what she would do if it had ended up happening to her if her husband left their marriage. "I am sorry to hear that, I do hope everything works well with your family however." Lauren said softly as they were then given their coffee, and started to put in a bit of crème and sugar in it, not to much and not to little. As Lauren leaned back in the seat she started to finish up the rest of her coffee before setting her cup down on the table.

"Sounds like a good idea to me then, after we visit Mahendra and give him his meal. We should also meet up with Vera and the others. And then we can go to my cabin and share a drink." Lauren suggested as she stood up again, she pushed her chair in as she was about to leave the dining room Lauren could see George coming up and smiled towards him. "Ah there you are, where are the others?" Lauren asked she hadn't seen them, and assumed that they had taken their meal somewhere else.

Mosi had dressed as she usually did so there was no need for her to go change clothing to enjoy the evening. The benefit of being American and dressing in trousers and shirts as she did was that that type of clothing was quite damn comfortable nearly all the time. Thus she walked to the stairs leading down to the main deck again. While doing so, she pondered the dinner she just had. The food was enjoyable. She was glad she got to dine on this ship. If nothing else was a memory!

Pulling herself away from reminiscing about the food, she suddenly realized that she had to have a ticket to get back to the Second Deck later. Running through her pockets, she smiled as she found the ticket. Yeah she hadn't forgotten it after all. Without much of fanfare, she quickly put it back in her trusty wallet, before putting it away in her pocket again. Yeah it was nice evening for a walk.

With a smile she descended down the stairs and found herself at the main deck. She could feel the night's air and the sound of the river. It was rather relaxing really. Mosi looked out into the night and a certain redhead popped up in her mind within moments. She frowned, sighed and felt a tiny pinch of regret for leaving without saying goodbye... and the fact that she didn't get a chance to ask her out on a date. 'Maybe they were going to meet up again at a later date?' She mused to herself, looking out into the darkness.

Jo finished her dessert as Reddish spouted off about the properties of rice amongst other cultures. It was interesting how rice here was used in a dessert rather than served as a side dish, but Jo wasn't that into cuisine. Still, she let the man talk, despite her gaze going elsewhere. She received Vera's room number and kept it to memory. The fact that Vera was looking out for her was warming. [color=F48CA7]"Your concern is noted, but I am not afraid. I am not without my own defenses."

Once she was satisfied all around, she stood up. "A lovely dinner to be sure. Hope everyone has a pleasant evening. Well, darling, shall we?" she asked Reddish, holding out her arm for him to take, though she would be the one to lead them towards the outside.

As she made her way to the outer hallway, she kept pace with Reddish. "Did you wish to go to the upper deck or remain on here? I have a ticket for the Elite deck and if you are with me they will permit you."

Faye Masterson

Richard's concern was noted, but it wasn't anything she hadn't heard before. From the police themselves, actually. "Thank you, but it is that reaction that makes me not want to disclose what happened. The skepticism. The concern. I get looks from those that knew her and me and I can't help but think they are wondering when I am going to snap."

"You all didn't know my sister. I did. We were close. She wouldn't do something like that. She wouldn't fall into the wrong crowd and, if she did, she would do whatever she can to get out. That's what I think happened. She wanted out and things went south."
Faye ate as she talked, finishing her meal. She picked up her plate and glass and brought them over to the table against the wall.

She came back to meet with Richard, assuming they would be going together again. "Don't you find that odd? A wild goose chase, as you said. Barely any clues. It doesn't add up to me. So where to now?" She added, hoping to change subjects.

Mahendra Huq Zalil

Location: Second Deck (Personal Cabin)
Skills: N/A

The enveloping feeling of being consumed by unknown forces had by now been replaced by familiar shapes and forms now behaving normally around Mahendra. They were still in some sense foreign to him, but he himself was managing to comprehend their strangeness, even take certain shapes himself to align to them so much that they recognized him as one of them. Them being people, he would slowly understand as his dream kept unfolding. Saraswati had left him for now, but he could stand his ground by himself. He was ready to step into his place in that world.

The next parts of his pain- and burn-indused dream was a whole lot more grounded that the lucid hallucinations beforehand. He recognized several people he knew in the real world; His professor and several students from Oxford University, his wife back in India who smiled at him and gave him the sense that she supported him, and the first people he worked with in England as a geologist. It was a comforting sight to see the people he knew and trusted, but also missed. Some he hadn't seen for months and years, some he might never see again. As Mahendra turned away from them, he saw another group of people with him; the so-called Fellowship. The group of unlikely companions in Egypt now on some unknown but grand quest to solve ancient mystery that affected them. Some of the figures were clearer than others, amongst them being the Lord Mayor as a person of stature and authority, and Lauren as the kind lady that had taken care of him.

When would he wake up to once again see them?

Richard Barker

Location: Lower Deck (Dining Area)
Location: None

"Where have I heard of that before?" Richard let the question hang in the smoke-filled air of the lower deck, not being able but to feel the sense of deja-vu roll over him as he took another good long drag of his cigarette. When were you going to snap? You all didn't know her. She wouldn't do something like that. I was going find out what happened. Richard, the hard-boiled detective that was slowly but surely becoming that rotting egg, had heard all of that before. Of course people don't believe that they loved and close ones can do "something like that". Why would they, they didn't know that they were lying through their teeth. People rarely show their true selves to others, and even then people forget those parts when they seek to rescure their idealized version of an angel.

The worst part was that Richard himself had been like that...still was like that. His little girl wouldn't just run away, no matter what people told him. And he would not stop looking for her. Never. It was the burning passion of his soul those days, the only thing warm in him perhaps. Or one of them.

With the call to put away their plates and Faye doing so, Richard was soon to follow. But finally his usually observant eyes snapped back to action, watching as...HIS SLEEVE WAS ON FIRE! "Jesus H. Christ!" Richard didn't even think what to do, and just grabbed the nearest glass or bottle and pour the remaining liquid on his sleeve. The fire wasn't difficult to put out, but Richard was nonetheless standing up, breathing heavily as he wondered just what the hell had happened. But with the obvious looks from the other passengers locked on him, he briefly gave them looks back and put away his tray and glass as he told them "الى ماذا تنظرين؟*"

With his tray and glass put away, Richard was again with Faye as she asked him if he found the lack of clues odd. Richard gave her a look of something of a mix of annoyance and disbelief, though he answered her question first. "I find it odd? Not really; any lack of clues point to someone wanting to cover their tracks, and eventually they'll screw up and drop a whole wheelbarrow of it." Richard's answer was quick, but turned just as quickly into a sarcastic question. "You know what I do find odd? The fact that you didn't tell me that my sleeve was on fire. When were you going to tell me that?" Richard asked, but his venomous words soon lost their bite as he tried to calm down and determined to turn back to the case. "Let's go upstair, find your army boys. We might ask them some questions, and I need to air out this singe."

Nora Kingston & Gene Benaszewski

Location: The Ferry - the Second Deck (Dining Area)

"Disorganized?" Gene asked, her eyes wide in a you don't say?! sort of way. She had to keep her mouth shut as since otherwise, she would have given her brother a lengthy list on every time being disorganized had helped in her life. And besides, they had plenty of organized people back home. She had to bring some sort of balance to her life somehow - and if a chaotic mess of a lifestyle was what did it, then so be it. It was a sacrifice that she was ever so willing to make. She then got up from her chair, not bothering to wait for anyone to pull it out for her.

"Yes, that sounds lovely," Nora said, giving Lady Munn an earnest smile - though it was small. Nora wasn't one for big gestures or big physical reactions of contentment to be in another individual's company. Everything was subdued with her. Yet she too thought it a bet strange that George decreed they would be safe with the tiny little thing. Yet Nora tried not to let her biases color too much into an opinion - but she could not imagine that Gene could keep them safe from much of anything.

"Do you need me to pull out your chair or are ya fine?" Gene asked, looking at Nora. The elder Englishwoman seemed a bit flustered as Nora rose to her feet. Gene then crossed her arms, smirking a bit. She enjoyed making people flustered. It was on her list of favorite things to do and that list included pranking. "I'm guessing you're both on the elite deck, right? Well, I can't go up there," Gene said. "And since I'm watching you, that means tea is delayed. But no reason conversation has to be put off right?"

Nora raised a slight eyebrow. George's sister was very...blunt. She reminded her of a cat in a way that wanted to be fed or have attention - very much in your face with no sugarcoating of anything. If anything however, Nora wanted to discuss these strange events with Lady Munn - someone well versed in the mythos of Egypt. She knew that Gene professed to be competent, but did she really know much of anything to do with these events? Or would it be additional guesswork?

The Lord Major raised an eyebrow at the young Mrs. Ridgeway. He understood that certain Americans operated on a level of sociability that was often rapid in comparison to the rules of courtship from his time, but it was considered heavily improper (even by the day's standards) for a man of his age to stop into the private cabin of a woman Lauren's age in the broader hours of the evening. He must have been a mistake in translation from English to English somewhere along the line in their conversation. Reginald had honestly thought that his dining companion had meant to gift him an amount of her family's spirits in passing rather than to make a private event of it.

Now, it was up to him to try to back out as gracefully as the situation would allow. As he readied himself to speak, Reginald caught sight of George entering the dining area. "I, ah... Oh, Mr. Benaszewski!" He cleared his throat and continued, an idea already forming. "Yes, indeed it is a good evening, Mr. Benaszewski, and a fine pleasure to see you upon it. I assume the rest of our party has likewise dined already, yes?" Reginald gave a furtive glance toward Lauren, then back to George, "If I might impose upon you, my good man? I've just remembered a matter that requires handling. Would you escort Mrs. Ridgeway back to her quarters while I see to my affairs?"

Reginald touched the shoulder of a passing steward, quietly speaking to him in the native language and local dialect of the region. The man nodded, apparently voicing an affirmation to the Lord Major, which prompted a smile from the old soldier. Immediately following, he looked to Lauren and George and translated in summary, "The young man with whom I was just speaking is delighted to deliver Mr. Zalil's food to his quarters with our regards, should you wish it, Mrs. Ridgeway. Now, my apologies, madame, but I must be off. Perhaps I shall see you taking advantage of the nightlife later on. Do please excuse me." He gave a curt bow and set off for his room. A few paces away, he paused for just a moment and turned back to George, "Ah perhaps, we might sit and talk over the fill of a pipe, or a good cigar if that more suits you, Mr. Benaszewski? Just us military men, if we've all the time for it. Well, until later." before resuming his paces.

Haring Reddish

Location: The Ferry (Second Deck Dining Area)
Skills: Arabic

A broad, content smile passed over the face of the Corporal as he moved to link is arm with Josephine's. "Indeed we shall, by your leave, madame! I would be grateful to take the night air as it wafts about the Elite Deck; it is more fitting to a lady of your outgoing standard anyhow, I'd wager." he responded, reaching into his khaki drill coat to procure his own ticket. "Just as much as I should be honored, Miss Clarke, simply honored to be taken under your wing of access, I find that my own ticket allows access, being as I am in the service of... of..." Reddish removed his hand from inside of his coat and began to poking it into pockets elsewhere on his person, "Of the, ah, the Lord Major, um..." He began to look very vexed for just a moment. Even alarmed. Having exhausted the pockets of his issued uniform frock, he took a step away from Josephine and started slapping every pocket on his person in a steadily more frantic manner.

"Dear soggy St. Swithun, and all the Bishops of bloody Winchester! Some son-of-a-headboard knocking strumpet's gone away with my... half a moment." The corporal unbuckled his utility belt and thunked it heavily upon the table. With it went a trio of belt pouches, one of his bayonets, and his pistol within closed holster. He hastily unbuttoned his coat and flung it upon the back of the chair nearest him. What he saw underneath prompted him to point a finger toward the sky with a triumphant, "HA!" The good and dutiful Corporal had apparently missed his interior pocket when he initially put the ticket away, allowing it to slip down and catch in the waistband of his pants.

Before he could give a sigh of relief, a steward seemed to materialize right next to him, carrying a sightly green-tinted bottle with a label covered in German script. Reddish's head whipped around, genuinely surprised at the sudden appearance of the man. He was barely able to get out a stammer in what was supposed to be Arabic, "Shuk... shukra jaz," before recognizing that he was failing miserably and ending his suffering with a succinct, "Ah, bloody danke."

He quickly buckled his utility belt back on and poured two glasses of the wine before noticing that he had totally forgotten to replace his jacket. Instead of viewing this as another minor setback or scatterbrained act, the Corporal decided to use it as opportunity. He pushed the sleeves of his grey-blue undershirt up to his elbows, as if it was what he intended, inadvertently displaying a series old scars that crisscrossed his forearms. His voice snapped back to its earlier, much more smooth and cultured nature as he held out to Josephine a full wine glass with one hand and his jacket with the other. "The Nile winds carry a chill with them at night, Miss Clarke. I wouldn't have you uncomfortable when I could fix it." He raised an eyebrow, a warm smile appearing, "Do sample the vintage as you come to it. It is remarkably sweet."

With a nod in the direction of the stairs leading to the Elite Deck, Reddish enthusiastically responded to Josephine's first question, "And I do indeed wish to visit the deck above. Let's go quickly, before something else happens."

Deeper Than The Sands

Date: October 5th, 1924

All Decks: Remember your tickets, it allows you to certain places on the ship. Please note that if you are trying to go ~up~ a deck, to call for a roll! We will have to see if your character 1) Remembered it, 2) Hasn't lost it or 3) To see if it has been stolen. >.>

Things seem calm on all the decks. People are lounging about, talking here and there but it looks like a good majority of people have either decided to turn in for the evening or sit down in one of the many lounges playing cards or enjoying a smoke and a drink. There seems to be a high amount of people from England about judging on the accents and more than a few American's about being rather loud as they play cards and make wagers.

Character Proceeding Forward: George pointed back a little bit and motioned towards the stairs. "Mmm, we have dinner on the second deck. Vera is mmm, going to her room with some others." It was becoming easier to speak to those around him in more complete sentences as he was becoming more comfortable with the others, at least those he had been spending some time around without them freaking out. Looking at the Lord Major he nodded. "Mmm, yes of course. If you do not mind my company Miss Ridgeway? I can escort you to Mmmm Vera's room. Mmm, girl talk I think," he said, turning his attention from the Lord Major back to Lauren to make sure she wanted him around for the short walk back to Vera's room.

Vera smiled slightly towards Josephine. "Of that I have no doubt," she said with a kind voice. Vera turned her attention to the two ladies and smiled. "Shall we?" she asked, motioning towards the upper deck. Making her way to the stairs she found her ticket and showed it to the man checking them and made a quick note. "She has been appointed my guard," Vera said motioning towards Gene. The man looked at her oddly but shrugged it off and waved the women through. He didn't seem very concerned with them.

George looked back at the Lord Major as he came back and spoke a bit. "Mmm yes, sounds welcome," he said accepting the mans invitation for a talk and such later that evening. Of course that would come after he escorted Lauren, if she wanted, and sat down himself in his room to eat quietly. He was still hungry as he only took small bites at dinner due to his face mask. Looking back at Lauren he offered her his arm and was ready to escort her to Vera's room.

Vera made her way up the stairs carefully and towards her room. Pulling out the key and unlocking the door. Pushing it open she froze. Her room was a disaster. It looked like someone had gone through all her things and did so without caring if anyone knew it. "What in the bloody hell is this?" she gasped as sh tripped over her things trying to get further into her room but even the bed was over turned.

Lauren Ridgeway

Location: The Ferry Main Deck: Elite Deck (Dining Room)
Skills: N/A

Lauren looked towards Reginald for a moment raising her eyebrow towards him for a moment, she got the feeling that she may have made him feel very uncomfortable for whatever reason. She then listened to Reginald as he spoke with one of the stewards on the ship for a moment, before he ended up translating what he had just said towards him. She gave a slight nod, Lauren imagined that she would see Mahendra a little bit later. "Thank you Lord Major." Lauren said towards him as she turned her attention back towards George when he offered her to take her to Vera.

"I'd like that a lot thank you." Lauren said towards him as she accepted George's arm, as she started to follow him down the stairs back to the lower decks. "So how was dinner for you?" Lauren asked looking at George for a moment, she did made a note before going back to her cabin for the evening to do a quick check on Mahendra as well. Lauren did enjoy her meal with just Reginald and herself, and enjoying the time and getting to know the man as well.

Priscilla Harker

Location:Main Deck( Stairs to Second Deck)-> Main Deck(Open Air Lounge)
Skills: Great Observation, Painting(Mainly sketching)

Studying the dark surroundings of the ship she was on, Mosi couldn't help, but sigh at the lack of interesting happenings. It was a very calm and quiet, covered by the darkness she didn't find anything interesting. She hoped at maybe seeing the occasional... well she herself wasn't quite sure what she was hoping to see. A building or maybe an occasional traveler following the riverbank? Well anything really, not just boring dark shores.

Still as she moved to the open air lounge, she pulled her sketchbook from her pocket along with a pencil, quickly getting to drawing. Despite the mundane feel of the surroundings around the ship, she did find them oddly inspiring right now. A silent night, when you didn't count the people's buzzing of course, the sky, the moon, the sound of water, it all gathered into a nice relaxing picture in her head. Thus she quickly got to work sketching it out, the night's scenery as seen from the railings of the ship.

Mosi was rather pleased by the image in her head and how it was turning out after a little bit of baselines being drawn. It was going to be a nice memory once completed and who knows, maybe one day she'd write a book about her journey around the world, but that was a mere mayfly of a thought that quickly vanished, replaced by focus on the sketching.

Josephine Clark

Location: Outer Hallway

Jo couldn't help but giggle at the man's antics. Really, it was like watching a comedy show with him all but smacking himself to find his lost ticket. And then him trying to speak. Priceless. Jo let out a rowdy laugh. "Oh darling, I don't mean to laugh, but I just couldn't help it. The look on your face! Ha! Well, you found your ticket in the end, so that's all well and good. Let's make for the upper deck then."

She had to admit this was the first time she had ever been offered a coat before. If it was ever cold she usually brought one herself. Fur, of course. But no man ever offered to give her a jacket to protect herself. It kind of warmed her heart a bit. She slipped it over her shoulders, imagining she looked silly. "Thank you. I'll admit this is a first for me." And she took the wine glass offered and sipped. It was indeed sweeter than she was expecting. "Oh, a bit too sweet for my taste, but not a bad blend of wine." She sipped it again, imagining the next swallow would be better.

She turned and began walking to the stairs, picturing him following her. She didn't know what to expect from this event, but she had a feeling it definitely would not be boring.

Faye Masterson

Location:Lower Deck Dining Area
Skills: N/A

Faye managed to hold in a chuckle she wanted to let out as Richard put out the fire. "My apologies sir. I figured a great detective like you would have caught that his sleeve was on fire." She hadn't meant to sound so nasty, but he did kind of upset her. Even if he didn't believe her, at least pretend he understood. This was her sister they were talking about after all. It mattered not. She would find proof and shove it in his face. Then he will see.

She stood up and looked around. She overheard some American accents. It seemed they were not the only ones from the state. She didn't quite know what asking the army men would yield, but it was better than standing around with people that held a snake. "All right, lead on. If all else, if I lose you I'll follow the smoke signal." At that, she started laughing at her own joke.

Mahendra Huq Zalil

Location: Second Deck (Personal Cabin)
Skills: N/A

"Uh...hello?" Mahendra stirred in his bed as he woke up from his slumber, however long it may have lasted. It could have been hours, days even. It certainly felt like that as he slowly forced his eyes open with what little strenght he could muster in his waking moments. Why had he awoken from his dream about...he couldn't even remember now that he had woken up, but he did hear the sound of knocking on his door. "Please give me a moment, Sir or Madam." Mahendra called out to whoever was standing outside his door. He pushed himself up from the bed, revealing a small, wet spot on his pillow from where he had drooled in his sleep. Though he couldn't remember falling asleep in that direction?

Mahendra got his wits about him slowly but surely, and walked to the door of his cabin and opening it. Outside stood a man, a steward most likely, asking if he was Mr. Zalil. Mahendra groggily confirmed the steward's question, and only then noticed the neatly packed plate of food he was holding. "Ah yes, that is very kind of you Sir. I was told that my aquantiances would reserve some for me, thank you." Mahendra thanked the steward and accepted the plate, stepping back into his cabin and closing the door. As soon as he unwrapped his meal he could physically feel his stomach shake and rumble. Mahendra hadn't eaten for a long time, and he was famished. It was nothing too fancy, the typical variant of Egyptian meals that he as an Indian and Hindu was allowed to enjoy. He smiled as he sat down on his bed, thankful for the little effort from his companions that made him feel happy. Happy and hungry. He should go out and find them later on to thank them. But first, dinner.

Richard Barker

Location: Lower Deck (Dining Area) -> Main Deck (Open Air Lounge)
Location: None

Richard narrowed his eyes as he looked at Faye telling him he should have looked after himself, being the great detective and all. Was she trying to crack jokes, or was she throwing that same type of venom back at him that he'd thrown at her? Perhaps both, but she did have a point, which in itself annoyed him and made him look less annoyed at her; he should have seen it himself. For Christ sake, how does one not notice that your sleeve is on fire? Perhaps he wasn't as great a detective as he thought. That would explain why he still hadn't found her...

"Sure kid, sure. Perhaps I should stop smoking after all?" Richard said in passing, taking one last look at the crowd down below deck. Sure there were American in Egypt, that wasn't really strange. The whole craze about mummies and pyramids was big in America, like everywhere else. Perhaps they would poke their noses around fellow Yanks later. But for now, as Faye laughed at her own joke that Richard would rather not be the punch-line of, Richard walked to the stairs, pulled out his ticket without searching for it for too long and showed it, before ascending up to the Main Deck. "So how do ya want to do this, Faye? Do the talking together or apart? In case you get sick of the smoke signals or whatever."

Nora Kingston & Gene Benaszewski

Location: The Ferry - the Second Deck (Dining Area) --> Elite Deck (Lady Munn's Rooms)
Skills: N/A

Gene smirked slightly, amused at the idea that she was the guard for Lady Munn - a member of the British Ton. It was an interesting and partially ironic thought from more than just the obvious perspective. As they ascended the stairs to the elite deck, Gene wasn't too surprised of course that they were waved through without much hesitation. Lady Munn and Lady Kingston were well off white British women - security wouldn't spend too much time questioning them.

Nora was a bit relieved when she found that she still had her ticket, showing it as the guard waved them through. She was a bit surprised at how easily accepted it was that a small tiny thing like Gene was a guard - or perhaps security on this vessel didn't care and figured they had more complex and pressing matters to worry about. She followed her friend dutifully, wondering herself how much protection Gene could truly provide for them. Perhaps George had taught her some things about combat?

"...Lady Munn, get back," Gene said confidently, as the door to the room was open and it was in shambles. She put a firm grip on Lady Munn's arm to steady her. "Let me have a first look - you'll just get yourself hurt, alright?" Gene continued. There was a bit of an old spirit look in her eyes. The situation didn't shock her or surprise her. Her brother thought she needed protection for a reason - and Gene didn't want Lady Munn to trip over a clue that might explain what happened.

"...Lady Munn, did anyone else have the key to your room?" Nora asked, having a miserable feeling that something crucial to their expedition had been stolen. Logically, Nora supposed that the staff of the boat must have spare copies of keys to all the rooms, in order to clean them or just to replace a missing key that a patron misplaced. Of course, there was the possibility that the lock had been picked.

Reginald Keystone

Location: The Ferry (Elite Deck, His Stateroom)
Skills: N/A

It was with no small amount of relief that Reginald located his stateroom and entered without issue. He wasn't sure what the highly American and very young Mrs. Ridgeway was getting at, but at his age, Reginald was far too venerable to be sharing private quarters with a lady who was of an appropriate age to be a granddaughter. Or near to it, at the least. The Lord Major's reputation in England's upper crust circles had taken a bit of a hit about things of that nature, and the last thing he wanted to do was inflict that sort of gossip upon a perfectly innocent young lady. Propriety was all about the appearance of things, after all, not the truth of them. That was the way the world worked, be it that it wasn't always fair.

His quarters were indeed up to his standards. For a boat, anyway. His upbringing in the nobility of Great Britain aside, the Lord Major had spent far more time as a soldier, stationed in a soldiers' quarters. In fairness, they were generally those of an officer. It could not be denied that they were invariably less luxurious than that which his family held as standard accommodations. The short form of Reginald's assessment with his room was that it would suffice; it was better than he expected yet not quite what he thought of when the phrase "First Class" was bantered about.

"Oh I say," he mused aloud, "that obnoxious fellow did a crack job it it, didn't he?" Reginald was referring to the neat packaging of much of his personal belongings, including uniforms, personal effects, and he even thought to pack his riding and marching gear. The old man did not intend to do a whole lot in the way of marching if he could help it, though it was good to see his field gear on standby. He even caught sight of a bundle that he assumed was his rifle from the Great War, wrapped in leather and secured with bayonet unaffixed. He was a more than decent shot with it despite his lack of necessity comparative to others involved in the War with its use, owing to his insistence to train with the grunt soldiers. As a man of gentlemanly practice, preferences marked him as more of a sword-and-pistol combatant.

Also something of impressive note, a basket of that date bread he liked so much, individual sections wrapped in waxed paper, lay waiting for him in the sitting area, alongside a bowl of fruit and a ready bottle of his personal scotch with accompanying tumbler. "Good heavens, that Corporal is taking this 'Valet' business seriously..." There was a touch of awe in his voice, bordering upon disbelief. He was actually a damned good Valet, though he doubted very much if he could see himself hiring Reddish on in his civilian life and having to introduce him to his social circle as, "Ah, yes. This is my Man, Reddish." The concept of having to deal with his usual battle cry (Yes, Lord MAJOR!!!) in his home every time he requested something, such as poached eggs of a folded periodical, was galling.

Reginald shook off the very thought with a shrug and helped himself to a fig from the basket. He wasn't especially hungry, having just finished supper, but it was in the mood for something sweet anyway. In any case, he had come to his stateroom to avoid a situation, which he had accomplished, and now that he was present he refilled his tobacco pouch from personal stock and tooled out his pipe. Yes, a bit of good, brown, Egyptian leaf with his new colleagues and fellow veterans would be a rousing sort of endeavor. Perhaps that Zalil fellow might want to join, were he in shape enough to socialize. Reginald thought he mentioned something about serving a term with the troops in India. A sort of Boys' Night among fighting men, as it were. The thought warmed him.

His task completed, the Lord Major gave his room a once over and then quietly exited, curious as to what he was to do next upon the boat until George was done with his tasks and Mahendra decided whether he was going to poke his nose out of his cabin that evening. Perhaps he would take in the air, lose a shilling or two at gambling, or just listen to the musicians ply their trade as they all floated along the Nile. With such options available to him, Reginald closed the door to his room behind him and locked up, then began to make his way toward the more open guest areas of the Elite Deck.

He suddenly froze in place. His eyes caught something that made him worry that he was either losing a marginal part of sight in his declining years, or possibly a chunk of his mind. It was the Corporal, arm in arm with Josephine, who was wearing the man's uniform jacket. The shock was still fresh with him when Reddish turned in his direction and, without slowing his pace, threw a very casual salute in Reginald's direction. The Lord Major did the only thing he logically could do in that instance: He doffed his cap to the man and returned his salute, though his mind jumbled with questions.

"...what the devil happened at that supper?" he whispered, dropping the salute and letting his hand hang at his side.

Haring Reddish

Location: The Ferry (Second Deck -> Elite Deck)

"Why Miss Clarke, you bite your tongue." expressed Reddish with mock offense, "Don't go apologizing for a laugh I'm keen on the hearing of. Why, I'll consider it a personal failure if I can't coax another one out of you before the evening's done." He nodded enthusiastically, a resolute look upon his face as if to reinforce this as a personal mission for the next hour. The Corporal took a more appraising look at Josephine, dressed nautically yet warding off the Nile wind with the frock of a non-commissioned soldier of the British Army. Admittedly it was a little mismatched, but the warm smile that touched his face for a moment suggested that he favored the look, be he somewhat biased on the matter.

When the starlet thanked him for the use of his jacket, he responded with a reassuring, even optimistic, "Think nothing of it, madame. Nothing of it at all. If you'll allow my opinion, that being the case it's about bloody time someone did." The single bob of his head seemed to punctuate his sentence with a abrupt period. He took the moment to half drain his glass of wine, savoring the bold sweetness of the aromatic, golden libation.

Reddish looked soberly at Josephine as she commented on the wine. It was a fine piece of the vintner's arts, but it was fair to say that it did not suit everyone's palette. Well, waste not want not, as the saying went. While Josephine made her way to the stairs leading up to the Elite Deck, the Corporal quickly jammed the cork back into the bottle and handed it off to a standby dining steward. He gave over his room number and informed the man that the room should be unused and empty. And speaking of empty, he polished off the remainder of his glass and set it on a nearby table before jogging up behind his walking companion and linking his arm with hers. "Well then, Miss Clarke, we're just going to have to find something that accommodates your tastes better, then won't we? Remember, I'm British. Two things we can do are queue and accommodate, if you'll take my meaning, ma'am! Besides, too much of that stuff is bad for you. Sugary, you see."

Ascending the stairs, Reddish was more than happy to show his ticket to the official present. Soon, he was upon the wondrous and nigh mythical Elite Deck, a place ordinarily barred to common folk like himself. All the wonder and majesty of what the Upper Class got to experience on a daily basis was his to bask in! ...and yet, it didn't seem quite as awestriking as what he might have made it out to be. Of course, expecting to somehow find a fountain of craft beer and people in powdered wigs was admittedly a bit naive. Not just that, but like he had said below, he was here for the view. Before he could get to that, however, he caught sight of someone he knew from the corner of his eye. It was the Lord Major, come from his stateroom with the oddest look on his face, just staring at them. Staring as if someone had just told him a joke that he didn't quite get and struggled in vain to understand. The Corporal cast a look in his direction. As the man said, he was Off Duty. Still, out of genuine respect for the legend known as The Lord Major, Knight of the Skies, Reddish raised his free hand and set it to his temple in salute, albeit never slowing his pace.

"You see what I was saying, Miss Clarke?" he said, looking across the water as they walked along. "Moonlight upon the Nile, I mean to say. Nothing like it in the world." He stopped for a moment, noticing a photographer just a little ways up, taking souvenir pictures of foreign tourists and the like. The Corporal looked like he wanted to say something, but was held back by a sense of propriety. After a few awkward seconds, he finally said, "Miss Clarke? I um... Look, you're all appointed and famous and the like, right? I'm the son of horse breeders from Middle England. This isn't my life at all, if you take my meaning, ma'am. First Class and moonlit walks with bloody movie stars in spectacular dresses. Just spectacular. Could I impose, and I know it's imposing, but would you take a picture with me? Maybe autograph after it's developed? Silly fan club style nonsense, but hey, when am I ever going to have an opportunity again, right?" He looked hopeful, but inwardly braced for a negative response to his request.

All Decks: Remember your tickets, it allows you to certain places on the ship. Please note that if you are trying to go ~up~ a deck, to call for a roll! We will have to see if your character 1) Remembered it, 2) Hasn't lost it or 3) To see if it has been stolen. >.>

Also, if your character goes to their room make sure to grab a roll from me to let you know what, if anything, occurred in there.

Over half of the people on the boat have decided it was best to go to bed and won't be back out tonight, well unless something happens that makes them get up. About 25% are back out and about on the decks, another 25% are moving from room to room having after dinner coffee and drinks away from the rest of the crowds. (Perception rolls for those out and about to pick up on anything.)

Character Proceeding Forward: George looked over towards Lauren and started to escort her back to her room. Taking it slow as they were not in any real hurry, trying to match his pace with how it felt on his arm to how quickly she wanted to walk. Letting her take the lead in the route they took and just keeping a general eye out on things as they walked. He didn't like being away from Vera right then but he felt that she would fine with Gene. The girl always had an ace up her sleeve.

"Mmm, interesting. Mr. Reddish joined us. He is mmmm interesting," George said. He wasn't sure how else to describe the man. "Did you wish to mmm go to your room first or mmm check on Mr. Zalil before hand?" he asked with a bit of a smile tugging on the corner of his lip that could be seen on the free side of his face.

Vera gasped and took a few steps back, nearly tripping over her things. Her eyes were frantic as she shook her head. "No... no one that I know of but," she said as she thought to herself. Another had arranged everything for the ship for them and made sure everything was in order. "Maybe Mr. Reddish? He did arrange everything did he not?" she asked for she wasn't sure.

The Lord Major had taken care to make sure everything was together but he wasn't the one that did the leg work. That was Reddish, she was sure of it but the man had been with them during dinner. There was no way he could have done all this, could he? Biting her bottom lip she slumped down into a seat, on top of a heap of tossed aside clothing as she bit the nail of her thumb. "Oh my, what about our things below deck?" she said as her eyes widened at the thought, looking towards Nora. "We have antiquities down there!"

Priscilla Harker

Location: Main Deck(Open Air Lounge)
Skills: Great Observation, Painting(Mainly sketching)

Priscilla quickly found herself a nice seat to take in the Lounge and started drawing. At first she was just drawing a few random lines, searching for the inspiration, but then it was as if a switch was turned inside her head. Flashes of the view and the possible angles, the lights and shades of the image that was before her eyes all mixed together to form something truly spectacular inside her head.

It was at that very moment that her entire focus was drawn into the thing she was drawing. There were no other passengers, there were no other things to pull her attention away. She was seeing and paying attention to nothing else but her pencil and the paper she was drawing upon. All her attention gathered into each stroke of the pencil as she was performing the act of creating something spectacular of her very own. A small masterpiece she could show as her own accomplishment.

Despite the fact she only had a pencil to work on, it also provided benefits beside the negatives. The sharpness and the contrast between the places of dark shadow and light were way more focused on. The reflections of the light upon the dark water in the very night. The outlines off the shore and everything around it. It was all forming together and she loved every moment of drawing it!
