Ettamri Belarence

Her blood was boiling.

Ettamri's grip on the club tightened, as the air started to feel a little electric. She had half a mind, no... She WILL ask Muu to settle it outside the city, and she will fight her, and she WILL break every single bone in her body. To make such accusations lightly, to even imply she was the reason Sunface died, it was akin to Muu spitting on both her honor and Sunface's memory. A poor recompensation for her staying behind to save her life.

"Don't you see,[ ]? They are all like that. You should [ ]"

She would have done so, but for the child trying her best to get her attention, as well as the mage's speech.

"Tch... I understand already, lay off my back, jeez. But..." She bent over slightly, picking up the small child one would a kitten. "Whats with this feisty child? She lost?"

The ranger let out a quiet sigh as the confrontation between the two de-escalated. 'Good thing too. The guards were getting agitated' He thinks to himself while giving the people they had bothered an apologetic smile while he scratched the back of his head. When he had returned to look back to the group, the tall knight had picked up a little girl as one would a lost kitten. "Ummm...Miss Ettmari, correct? I do not think that the little girl likes being held up like that." Or that a child ought to be held up by the collar, risking suffocation and death given the proper angle and time.

So much was going on for Siwon to fully process. The biggest and the smallest of their current party had began to argue whilst he felt a sudden jerking motion as he was pulled away. For some reason that the Fiend Knight would still be unable to discern even in his twilight years (if he made it that far), there was also a low throbbing ache on the back of his head. Siwon was concerned, worried, in the midst of breaking down because no one reacted to his super cool introduction! It was at that moment that Siwon almost considered breaking down and crying if not for the sole thing that was able to break him out of his stupor...

"You brat! Plagiarism is no joke!"

Pulling himself away from Argen's grasp, Siwon quickly moved towards the child being held in the giant woman's grasp. He reclaimed his breakfast from Argen as well, with enough roughness in his mannerism to indicate that he might attempt to beat someone... with a whole roasted chicken.

"How dare you use part of my awesome intro speech for some half-baked ice breaker like that?! Are you sure you aren't a Thief, going around stealing someone's intellectual property like that? I spent all night practicing that! And don't get me started on the tone of your introduction... For one, if you are a Priest, you speak in a decisive, yet nurturing tone that invites hospitality! How do you expect us to trust you to heal us if you act all grim and glum? And finally, if you really are a Priest and not a Thief, then purify this!"

Siwon shoved the burlap sap containing his breakfast in front of Katya's face, waiting for her to work her magic.

Argen slowly pulls away his hand for Siwon as he begins to...go off on this child that just appeared? He doesn't care as Siwon will either get scolded by someone else or just entirely ignored, and Argen does mind either. He takes a side step to round out the circle, and give himself the ability to watch the small priest, 'She is a little more than fresh, she seems to not even know what she could be caught up in. Yet, I can't blame her. What else could she do? She would have no other skills, so taking a mission with people who looked strong is the best option, but still'.

As Argen looks towards everyone they seemed to have all shifted away from the antics of Siwon and suspicions of himself. He then begins to take stock of everyone. Okay winter clothing. A bit of food, to get us there and back, maybe. A good party composition, yes. 2 back line, a support, a defensive backline, a defensive frontline, and 2 offensive front lines. In all honesty, Argen sees this as a decent combination of classes. Mattering on the spells being packed by the mage and cleric this could go smoothly as they make their way to the fort a possibility is to purify and cremate bodies to get a bit of extra money.

There was blatant relief on Katya’s face when Renault addressed her. Immediately, she decided that the brunette mage was a good guy indeed, someone who she’d gladly protect with her own staff. A party mediator AND a good listener? Mathers told her that it’s the quiet ones that you had to watch out for, and Katya immediately knew why: this level-headed sorta person was exactly what was needed here. She felt some momentum building in her favor, and the young priest told to him, puffing out her chest slightly. “Fufufu, I’m glad you asked,” Katya said, “I can h- HURK?!”

A colossal force pressed against the back of her neck, pinching down not her nape (because really, Katya might be chubby, but she wasn’t THAT fat) but on her flappy priest robes instead. For a moment, it looked as if the twin-tailed girl was going to be lifted up in the air, but in the next, she dropped her staff, lifted up her arms, and ducked her head down.

Yoink!

Ettamri disrobed Katya in one clean motion, leaving the priest with nothing on but her wool sweater and pants, both a non-descript beige. She blinked for a moment, realizing just what happened, before deciding that the best thing to do would just to be…going with the flow! Patting both the hexagonal sun ornament and the copper tag of a fresh Silver Moon recruit that hung around her neck, Katya said, “I’m no child! I’m Katya! Mathers said every party needs a warrior and a priest. You’re the warrior, I’m the priest! Now name yourself, Ettamri!”

Of course, life couldn’t go all too great for the small child, not when Mr Butt Thruster was getting all in her face with his unrealistic and stereotyped expectations of what priests should be like. Yup, Katya was really feeling it now. While the weird mage with the big bow and the actual mage without a mage hat were big reasonable adults, and while the scary small girl and scary big guy were scary stabby people, for some reason, there was a kinship to be felt with not-scary short guy. Something like…

Wow, he’s like, my age!

“Fufufu, as expected of a knight of the big dog, always painting the world in your own de-lu-sions. Why should I have to act like what you want me to be? You’re not the boss of me. You’re not even a warrior!” But that sack DID smell good, for some strange, strange reason. Could it be? “But I am a benevolent, bew-tiful priestest, so I’ll do it anyways!”

Snatching the sack from his hands, she opened it up, and…

“Watch, I’ll purify it without even praying!”

…began to eat the roast chicken. It was tough and chewy and honestly not that appealing, but hunger was the best seasoning, and she had spent a week subsisting on delicious, wholesome, satisfying meals like potato skin soup.

Needless to say, before Siwon could intervene, Katya had already taken the wings and the drumsticks, stripping clean the bones and spitting them back into the sack.

Ettamri Belarence

"Ummm...Miss Ettmari, correct? I do not think that the little girl likes being held up like that."

"Well, she seemed to have escaped her robe, so perhaps she is fine." She replied, holding up the robe.

'She is a little more than fresh, she seems to not even know what she could be caught up in. Yet, I can't blame her. What else could she do? She would have no other skills, so taking a mission with people who looked strong is the best option, but still'.

"Tis no matter. She has earned her own rank. Fight harder so she does not have to, if you are that concerned about her."

“I’m no child! I’m Katya! Mathers said every party needs a warrior and a priest. You’re the warrior, I’m the priest! Now name yourself, Ettamri!”

"I've already named myself. You're speaking my name." She scratched her head in confusion at that, before the small one noticed the bag Siwon held out, and jumped on it, gobbling down the content like a rabid cat. Tossing her robe back to her, Ettamri addressed the rest of the party there.

"Well, we found our priest. From her tag, she should be competent enough. Gather up everything for the two day journey, and finish any business you have left within the city. As for how we share the rewards, we shall split up everything we earn equally, as per usual. You are welcome to get a written charter for everyone to sign should you wish it. Turning around and lifting the large club onto her shoulders again, she took the paper for the request. "We meet back here in a short while, and set out with the caravan immediately. I trust everyone knows what to do already."

The ranger chuckled lightly at the manner the little priestess had difficulty in pronouncing some of her words. The fiend knight then barged in front of her, burlap sack in hand and body language indicating he might have intentions of using the aforementioned sack to hurt someone. He approached the small one and began to complain about her taking parts of his introduction and appropriate it to her introduction. He also accused her of being a thief before demanding he purify the thing in the sack. The scene caused the ranger to raise an eyebrow in both confusion and slight amusement.

The small one voiced her complaints to the fiend knight but complied to his request after giving the sack, that was revealed to contain a whole roast chicken. Wait, what? Oscar stared at the whole roast chicken as the girl pulled it out and took a big bite off the surprise meal. 'Poor thing, desperate enough to eat some stranger's chicken from a sack.' He thought to himself while observing the rookie priestess ravenously consume the...dubious...looking chicken with gusto. The hardships of being a rookie fresh from the catacomb was still fresh in his memory. Hard times those days were, hard times. Ettamri then spoke up of what needed to be prepared, how the reward would be split, as well as what time they were going to meet up. Though she was rather a little vague about the span of a "short while" he assumed that they were given around two or three hours at most to prepare their things for the quest. Oscar gave her a quick nod and was about to leave but looked at the girl, still devouring her impromptu meal and felt a pang of guilt strike his heart.

Not so long ago, he would have likely done the same if offered a meal like a roast chicken. Likely from a less eccentric individual but none the less he would have accepted the offer in a heartbeat. He felt sorry for the little priestess and thought he could kill two birds with one stone. "Miss Katya, instead of eating...that. Would you be interested in dining in a more, lets say proper, establishment in the North Western District?" He asks the priestess before looking at the rest of the group. "Of course the offer extends to all of you as well." Breaking bread among team members is a common practice and usually tends to be a good bonding experience. He hoped that, in doing so, he could get off on the right foot with this group and get along with them like the other groups he had joined previously.

As quickly as the situation seemed to escalate, thanks to Ettamri's temper, things quickly calmed down at the behest of the magician and the interruption of a... midget. Yes, a midget. Unlike the Fiend Knight's introduction, doing the same while being small and cute gave somewhat of a leeway. Enough leeway that Muu's first impression of the girl was her certainly being a lot less weird by comparison.

As a matter of fact, the midget turned out to be a priest. Maybe a level one-spell-only priest, but a priest nonetheless. About the only proficiency whose mere presence earned their pay even if they did not have to lift a single finger. After all, nobody getting hurt was still the best possible outcome.

Holding back a giggle about the outcome between Siwon and the priestess, Muu simply nodded to Oscar's invitation. "I'd take you up on that offer. Thank you." It was nonetheless hard to tell if she was actually grateful. At least Muu didn't sound very excited. Nonetheless, who was she to turn down a free meal? Although, with the refusal of Ettamri's help she likely had to seek her greedy Guild Master's advice first before setting off. But surely there was enough time.

With the promise of dining set up between at least some of the party members, the rest dispersed to do their personal preparations for the task at hand. This early in the morning, few proper eating establishments were ready to receive any customers at all, but lesser vendors always had simple treats available: roasted yams and potatoes were the standard, while others offered toasted bread and warmed drinks. Not all adventurers partook in such a lavish breakfast though; many had packed food for the day instead, chewing on jerky and dried fruits as they marched off to get a headstart on the day. Nighttime was dangerous, especially when daylight was so sparse. Better to enjoy good food after the day ended than before the day did, was the rationale that all the early birds followed.

Of course, for the party interested in the carriage request, daylight didn’t really matter. It was a three day journey through heavy snow to Fort Stalwart, after all, so like it or not, they’d be freezing in the middle of nowhere at night. Instead, the more preparation time they spent now, the more suffering they could alleviate later.

Soon enough, the group reconvened at the Recruiting Office once more, some more well-fed than others, some carrying more gear than the others. Upon stating their intent to take up this job with Mathers, the ever-grave, ever-surly receptionist (or was he a general? An officer? No one really knew) directed them towards one his assistants instead, a freckle-faced page who was less than eager to put on his patched-up coat and lead the Silver Moon soldiers out to the starting line of their job. Work was work though, and after many muffled curses and a good ten minute walk, the seven (plus sad page boi) made it to the granary, a large building of wood and stone, simple in design but fit for function. A makeshift stable had been set up beside the granary, looking relatively empty with only five work horses inside. Wagons, shielded from snowfall by tarps that looked like they had to be cleared off every couple of hours, sat there as well, the wood frosted over by persistent ice. It certainly wasn’t all that impressive, but considering the recent attacks on carriages and all, it wasn’t that big of a surprise either; even if times were good, none of the party had a particular reputation for getting this sort of work done, after all. Indeed, the freckle-faced page had snuck more than a couple of suspicious glances towards Argen and Muu, as if expecting either of them to go on a homicidal rampage at a moment’s notice.

But neither of them did, and after the preliminary explanations of where everything was and how to tie up the horse and all that, the page said, hugging himself to retain warmth, “Well, dunno if any of you got caught out, but it’s like, real bloody cold out at night. If you don’t make a shelter, you’re basically dead, so don’t be lazy ‘bout it, yeah? We’re literally running out of horses and throwing away our supplies to those savages in the wilds because dumbshit soldiers don’t know basic survival skills...so don’t mess this up. First shipment will exclusively be in grain, but if you succeed here, we can have you sending more precious supplies up to the Fort. Capiche, fellas? I’ll help you with loading and all, but afterwards, you’re on your own.”

A pause, and the page managed a grin, unlocking the door into the granary. Empty burlap sacks laid by the corner, while stacks upon stacks of filled sacks filled the large holes that were dug in the storeroom to maximum capacity. It was dry and cool inside, but the wooden beams that supported the ceiling groaned without end, creaking in a way that felt as if it threatened collapse every minute. The young page looked unconcerned, however, leaning against the doorway.

“Basically all there is to say,” he said, with a sense of finality, “Get to it, yeah? Doubt you’d want to spend any more nights out in the wild than necessary.”

“YEAH!” Katya suddenly cried out, after being silent the entire time. “Let’s do it, guys! We got this!” Ignoring the look of surprise on the page’s face (who hadn’t even realized the presence of a small child priest until now), the twin-tailed girl immediately leaned her staff against the wall, before rolling up her sleeves and striding over to the first sack of grains. Impassioned and extremely motivated, she grasped onto two ends of the sack, took in a deep breath, and immediately pulled with all her might!

Only for her feet to slip and for her to fall on her butt.

But those sorts of accidents happened, and even though Katya may have been a small child in the eyes of those unaccustomed to the severity of life in Andeave, her teacher hadn’t shirked in his duties to toughen her up during training at all. Bouncing back onto her feet, she tried again, and this time, she actually managed to lift a sack up. It was only a few inches off the ground and her arms were definitely straining from the weight of it, but, wobbling quickly like a penguin, Katya said with a mixture of urgency and…well, basically just urgency, “C’mon Ettamri, pick out a wagon so we can fill ‘er up!”

A pause, and then there was that stubborn immaturity again.

“Not that this is heavy or anything, of course. I can hold this foreverrrrrrr, but daylight’s dying so hurry up and pick one already.”

Ettamri Belarence

Two thick furry cloak, large enough to drape over herself and more, flint, two bottles of alcohol she had squirreled away underneath the floorboards of her home, as well as some supplies for a few days of travel and to find her way should she become lost somewhere. A sharp knife, the tarnished sword, and the greatclub. The remnants of her greatsword lay at rest in her home for now, when she has enough money to make use of the steel for something else. The alcohol... well, she found the alcohol gave her an odd sense of energy whenever she drank them. Her armour, of course, was worn, with the bandages all around her body to hide... her 'discolorations'.

The rest went as expected, they took some papers, did all the necessary prepwork, and finally got lead to the wagon station, where they were expected to pick out a wagon to haul to the fort. Easy enough, but...

“Not that this is heavy or anything, of course. I can hold this foreverrrrrrr, but daylight’s dying so hurry up and pick one already.”

"Don't overwork yourself, turnip." Sighing, she picked up the child while Katya still holding onto the sack, and set both her and the sack inside a sturdy looking wagon, or at least, sturdy enough for their purpose. Hanging her backpack onto the side of the wagon, she signaled to everyone else. "Alright, we'll fill this one up. All sacks inside first, before you put your belongings in there, or you can hang it on the sides like I did. Anyone who slacks off can expect both their legs broken, before being thrown in the dumps like the trash they are."

"You," Ettamri pointed to the mage. "Make sure we have enough loaded. Oversee the loading. I'll pick out the horses."

Well, they didn't fight in the middle of the town. That was a good sign. Though, that only meant that Renauld's expectations had plummeted down deep. Well, 'keep it to himself' was his mantra. His newfound companions got into some antics from their pure manic energy including (but not limited to) eating a chicken from a burlap sack, disrobing a small child, and getting very angry about stolen introductions. All Renauld could do in response was smile and give a slight chuckle. Oscar, the other straight man of the group, had suggested they go out on a meal to feed the starved priestess.

"Sorry but I think I'll be busy with prep."

Renauld would not take the ranger up on his offer.

His preparations were complete. In a sturdy gunny sack, he had three bricks of pemmican, some hardtack, a small scrap of iron and flint, a small bottle of clear booze, and a water bladder. All and all, the entire travel package cost him a silver. As the only saying went, you had to spend money to make money. His equipment was rather sparse, but that was because it was for only him. The hunter would usually have to prepare things like a shelter or the fire itself, so he could afford to prep lightly. For the most part. In a pinch, he might be able to make something like an igloo. What was the most important thing was, however, not dying in the god forsaken cold. His winter gear that he already owned would suffice. He didn't need to stay warm to keep his mobility. He was a mage, after all.

He did load up his calories, though. Not enough to make him feel sick, but enough to make him feel like he would be satiated in the biting cold.

Soon he arrived at the recruiting office to meet up with his party. Then he moved with them to the granary. The page gave them a basic rundown of everything. Don't die and do deliver. Those were the basics of the operation. All they had to do was load up the cart then haul ass to the fort. Katya had, meanwhile, flopped. In an attempt at lifting grain, she had fallen only to bounce back up. She was tenacious, Renauld could give her that. She struggled to lift it, but she did end up picking it up. Ettamri had, at the turnip's request, picked chosen a cart and given Renauld the 'weak mage job' of loading the cart. Well, he was decent at that. He was also decent at ignoring the overt threat that Ettamri had delivered to the group.

Picking up a sack of grain from one of the holes, he lifted it to the cart. He placed it directly in the corner, making a note of how much space it took in the bed of the cart. Quickly counting and doing some napkin math, he guesstimated the amount of bags that could fit inside of it.

"About 40 bags? 50 if we use the tarp and rope as tension. Just put bags on the cart and I'll rearrange them all."

He wasn't exactly a weakling nerd that was picked on. His arms, were still adequately sized for lifting fourty or so pound bags. The mage lifestyle related atrophy hadn't struck him just yet.

Oscar quietly strode down the cold cobblestone streets, snow crunching underneath his boots. Quietly humming a tune to himself as he made his way to his home. He and the little priestess, along with those who chose or had time to dine with him, had just parted ways in preparation for the long quest they had. It was a simple but filling meal from one of the many under appreciated, and admittedly underrated, restaurants located in the North Western District. It made the ranger ponder why.

Soon the cobblestone streets of the city turned into snow covered ground of the wild. The snow covered wilderness were a marvel to gaze upon as the morning sun's ray glistened upon the still layer of frost whilst the hidden winder birds sung their tune. "Heh...never gets old." Oscar remarked to himself offhandedly before breaking through the treeline and saw the small hill where his home was. The dwelling in question was a large hollowed out tree stump with a man sized carved opening on its and a tarp pegged atop to prevent snow from entering. A small frozen brook, two meters wide, separated the hill from the ranger. Before winter arrived and the body of water froze, he would have hopped over. But now that it had frozen over, it was no issue.

A fire pit, with half a log on each side, smoldered as the fire he had lit from the early morning had slowly died out. Succumbing to the cold environment. Approaching it, he quickly stamped out the remaining embers and proceeded to enter his home. After taking off and hanging his cloak and hat, Oscar lit a hanging lantern and illuminated the area. He then began to scrounge about the carved shelves and nailed racks, for what he needed for the quest. After a few minutes of scrounging, cramming, and fastening things onto the durable leather bag he did one final run down of what he had. "Sleeping roll? Check. Mess kit? Check. Tinderbox? Check. Waterskin, rations, rope, and lantern? Check." Giving a quick nod to nobody in particular, he grabs his bag, turns off the lit lantern, and dons his cloak and hat once again before leaving his home and straight to a familiar looking mud hut. "Hey, just giving a heads up that I'll be gone for about a week." The older man just grunts in affirmation(?) and is silent once again. "So...yeah. I'm just saying bye." Another grunt and more silence. It was kinda awkward. No matter how good Oscar's composure was, he felt awkward talking to the supposed guild master of the rangers. He pursed his lips inward and looking around the hut for a bit before he made his way out of the hut.

Once outside he opens his pack and grabs a small pouch of dried strawberries and leans onto the wall near the opening of the hut. Reaching inward the hut, he lays the small pouch near the entrance. Close enough for the light to illuminate the ranger's offering to apologize for the awkwardness, but not so near that someone could step on it. With that done and over with, he finally goes into the city proper to purchase some more supplies. Notably more combat oriented arrows and a spool of fishing line, before going to meet up with his party.

===============================================

They had done the paperwork needed and the page had just gave them some simple enough instructions to the party. If done properly, the whole quest will be as simple as going in and out. But that was assuming things would go right. The ranger just nodded to the page as he finished with his warning. Katya suddenly cried out, seemingly pumped for the quest. The little girl then attempted to display her immeasurable might...only to fall flat on her butt. That earned her a short titter. "Be careful there, priestess. We don't want you getting hurt even before we leave the city." He tells her just as the tall woman carries her and the sack onto the cart and warns the party that slackers would be punished severely. "Roger. Over and out, Captain Ettamri." He gives her a friendly mock salute before he sets his backpack on the opposite side to where Ettamri placed hers. Renauld had already started and gave a rough estimate to how much they can put in the cart.

The ranger gives him a nod and began working. Lifting his fair share of bags onto the cart, he had a passing thought that maybe Katya would have felt or was feeling a little bit down that she wasn't being much help. "You're still a growing young lady, Katya. Don't worry about it." He tells her while loading another sack. He thinks about a way he could include her in the work, but not let her over work herself. A moment passes before a light bulb went off in his head. He would carry the majority of the weight but let Katya guide where the sack would be laid down in the cart. With a sly smirk on his face, he executed his plan. "Oh no. My forearms are getting quite sore." Oscar lied and did his best to not sound overly dramatic and laid the back of a gloved hand to his forehead in mock anguish. "If only I had someone to help me..." He looks to the priestess in a playful manner, seeing if she would be willing to humor him and 'help' with the loading process.

As Argen watched and listened to everyone as everyone started to decide on the different things they would do with the morning before they take the quest, Argen spoke out and said, "I will have to decline the offer as I have to do some preparations. I will see you all at the Recruiting Office". As Argen began to leave and began his preparations for this trip.

He left to go to his home and gather what he had for such an endeavor. He sighs as he enters a small worn down house. It was more like a shack, but still worked as he entered to begin his collection. A large pelt of a bear worn with scars and stitches, yet still was good at keeping warmth even in the hellish nights of cold. His large bear cloak he now places over his brown coat and chain armor. He cleans and checks his boots for any damage he could repair before leaving, and then switches to his heavy duty bag instead of his light Burlap sack bag.

He starts collecting all of his small cooking things, a small pot so he can make hot water to warm up in the morning and maybe prep something for a meal while they are out, a wooden spoon for him to heat up some good old stew, and a wooden bowl for said stew, he took note to buy some ingredients and continued his collection of things. He then grabs a roughly carved wooden mug that seems to have a few nicks here and there but is still good for use. He holds it for a moment and sighs as he rubs his hand on the side with a small carved Spero on it. He placed it into his bag as he continued to grab items. He grabbed the food he bought to sustain himself for about a few days, but he knew it was not enough, so he would need to buy more, but it shouldn't be too bad. At least with him buying some fresh ingredients it would make up for food.

Now as he looks at everything he has he heads out to buy the last little bit of things he would like to have before heading to the meet his party. He went out and bought some potatoes, a bit of spices (enough to make a bland stew less bland), a black scarf that can be used to cover his face or just leave at his neck so he will keep his neck warm and feel better, and a tarp and some metal spikes so he can make a cover to break the wind or cover against snow fall at night. As he leaves he sighs out a deep breath as he takes his pelt that is wrapped around himself and tightens it as begins his journey to the Recruiting Office, with the sun barely heading over and began to start hitting him.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the rest of his party were either at the office or about to arrive the wait wasn't long. As the page began to guide them to the carts, he shot Argen a look, a look he knew all too well. However immediately shot the same look towards one of his partymates. To whom Argen could not tell as he couldn't follow his line of sight clearly, but that means that someone else had a similar reputation of having a shady history even if it is on purpose or not. He didn't bring it up as it would be useless as he didn't know the person, but it did not leave much of a mark as people did what they did and he'll leave it at that. If it comes to it and it becomes a problem he is willing to start a search for information, but that can wait. Right now he needs to focus on the situation at hand loading this cart with bags.

On the instruction of Ettamri, Argen began loading bags without saying a word of back sass or affirmation he just began his work with a sigh as the cold feels like hell froze over and left the gate open. He took off his cloak, weapons, and bag as he set them near the entrance and set off to work. He started off easy to just see how heavy each bag was. After a few bags he started grabbing 2 bags at a time to speed up the process. His brown coat was not all too thick, it was just enough to stop Argen from shivering profusely, and not too much more, but it did keep him warm enough to do work with ease. As he did his work he did it in silence as he doesn't really have anything to talk about to others. If they needed something they could ask him if they didn't they would do their work and not bother him. He watched as Oscar was playing with Katya and wanted her to 'help' him, it was fine as it would begin to help her get to know someone more and make a friend, but Argen didn't pay much more mind to it as there is still plenty of bags to move.

Siwon had chosen not to accept Oscar's invitation out of pride, though he did choose to begrudgingly offer the rest of the chicken to Katya regardless. If Katya were to truly suffer from food poisoning, then it would be The Jaws' cycle being fulfilled once more. Plus he didn't want to eat a breakfast covered in her cooties anyway. Instead, he made his way to the Order of the Fiend Knights in order to perform a rite of safe travel. He also decided to purchase a winter blanket, a collapsible spade, a wooden mallet with some nails, some extra torches, a 50 ft. roll of hempen rope, and a pair of winter boots made with mobility in mind, given the unique fighting style of the Fiend Knights. Afterwards, Siwon decided to grab a nice cup of hot chocolate with some bread to carb up for the morning.

Siwon was late. He made to the meeting point about ten or twenty minutes after everyone had converged, his gear disheveled and with a piece of toast in his mouth. To Argen and the Silver Moon, this was a common occurrence, toast and all. To the other members of the party however, this was likely something that would need to get some getting used to. At least he made it before the briefing started...

Once everyone was situated and brought to the loading area, Siwon quickly got to work. It seems he was arguing with himself once again, fighting off taunts from his demon that he wasn't strong enough to lift such heavy loads. He gravitated towards Argen with helping him get most of the load on the wagon. He kept to himself, working fast because all his things were heavy and he wanted to load them already. Of course, nobody would have thought to have told him he could just put his own gear down while they finished loading, though that's probably because Siwon isn't the easiest to approach when he's talking to himself. He gave the occasional glance of resentment towards those who weren't pulling their weight, but otherwise remained to himself for the remainder of the loading session.

After the meal with Oscar&co, Muu had some preparations to do herself. Sure, the winter had been going on for a bit longer than just yesterday, but she had been doing fine enough earning money without having to do what she was now committed to. Now, however, this was exactly the issue. After having made Ettamri angry enough that she more-or-less (un)intentionally ignored the Bladedancer's question, she simply went to ask someone else. And who better to seek guidance from than from the very guild that taught her Art?

Keep blood bumping through hands and feet.
Get as much sleep as possible.

Wasn't that kind of a contradiction?

Monsters care less about the environmental hazards.
Careful about your jumps in the snow.
Don't move too fast, sweating is bad. During normal travel anyways.
Don't let your scarf freeze.

Hopefully, they wouldn't have to deal with any encounters.

Buy fat.
Get wool underwear.
...

And so on.

In fact, Muu's shopping list had potential to be so long that she couldn't afford it all. That was, however, mostly thanks if she were to buy a completely new wardrobe. Mandatory travel stuff to get through the nights was already present and given, with the exception of food, yet the girl still had to buy a bunch of wool socks, gloves, and underwear, fat, and snow shoes. There was even a little bit left for a second scarf, just in case.

Really though, the most important thing was to keep warm, was it not? Thus, Muu simply ended up throwing everything she had on her. Which wasn't that much, after all. Bladedancer uniform, school clothes from a time she couldn't remember, the winter cloak that came with a hood, and her newly acquired weird-lookin tennis racket shoes and the wool stuff!

Much like the fiend knight, Muu, too, was somewhat late. Giving a simple one-word apology, it did not take a genius to understand what they were doing. The bags weren't all too difficult to move and Muu quickly got to work.

She couldn't deny, however, to be somewhat surprised at the lack of others wanting to socialize. Earlier it had seemed they were all about goofing around! Or, maybe, they were actually reliable?

As Argen continues to carry bags he began to see Siwon...struggling? As Argen starts to think about why, ' Hmm it might be they focused on his core and lower body so his upper arms are slightly lacking, it would be good to teach him proper lifting technique so when he needs to do more lifting he wouldn't hurt himself '. As Siwon started gravitating towards him, Argen started to talk to Siwon and began by asking if Siwon knows the basics of lifting. Then started showing Siwon different ways to lift so he could be more effective and not hurt himself.

From lowering the body and placing the bag on the shoulder or head to have the body take the weight, to straight up dead lifting the bag and penguin-ing over to the cart, Argen tried to help Siwon learn to use his legs and core strength to lift instead of with his arms. As Siwon could probably lift quite a bit as Fiend knights do some pretty impressive evasive maneuvers and strange movements to pull off attacks, Siwon just needed to learn what are his advantages. With all of this happening Argen still was ferrying bag after bag with ease while showing the different things he tried to teach Siwon. This did slow down his progress slightly so he could demonstrate more clearly for Siwon but it should help for later endeavors.

“It’s not overwork, it’s normal work!” was Katya’s response, before she was unceremoniously dumped into the wagon. Geez, just because Ettamri was a warrior didn’t mean that she needed to show off THAT much. Priests were strong, after all. With their smashing staff work, they were the ones that protected the weenie mages when no one else could. Pouting, she crossed her arms, sat on a bag, and simmered…at least until Oscar showed weakness. The smugness in her smile could practically be cut with a knife as Katya said, brimming with triumph and definitely directing a few smirks Ettamri’s direction, “Gee, aren’t rangers supposed to be tougher than priests? My, my, no helping it, I’ll lend you my strength, Ranger-man!”

With that, she quickly and steadily got to work lifting with Oscar. Though their efficiency was obviously due to the larger man’s physical strength, Katya’s form was, without having to overtly strain herself, fairly good. Days of running up and down the stairs leading up to the church, especially in such slippery conditions, had given her quite a solid core, and once the group got a good pace going, the wagon was filled up fairly quickly. After all, with two and a half meatheads, fifty bags of grain was child’s play. The wood groaned under the weight of it all, but seemed sturdy enough, and soon after, Renault lashed it down with tarp and rope…only for Oscar to swoop in and correct the mage’s poorly-done knots.

By then, Ettamri had finished with her evaluation of the work horses left in the stables, and came to one conclusion: they were equally substandard, and made her wish her old steed hadn’t turned into a skeleton. Still, life on the frontier wasn’t meant to be luxurious at all, and there was nothing to it but to make do with what they had. Dragging a dappled horse and a chestnut horse with her, the flame-haired warrior secured both to the wagons and off the party went.

Onward into the white unknown, the endless expanse.

Who needed a map anyways?

No one, not when Ettamri had the distinction of actually being one of the people in Andeave who had travelled to Fort Stalwart on foot. Never mind that heavy snow had blanketed much of the landmarks she could have used, while the constantly gray skies obscured the mountains in the distance, or that travelling on foot opened up far more options than travelling with a wagon could afford. After all, surely Oscar could handle it, being a ranger who was an expert at travelling in the wilderness, and navigating rough terrains with his great experience…even though he had never gone as far as this journey would require.

But it would be fine. They had Katya, the bestest priestest, who was currently sitting on the back of the wagon and half-singing, half-humming a song that had no end because she only knew how to endlessly loop the chorus part.

Despite all this though, the first leg of the journey was largely pleasant, the main road still well-marked by footmarks, easy enough to follow. Monsters usually roamed within the forests, the denser vegetation serving as shelter from the worst of the cold while also setting up ambushes for prey, animal or human. On the open snowfields, the party remained relatively unmolested, the pale winterscape spreading out wide enough to swallow them whole. To their right side was the treeline that lead to the forest. Pine trees prevented it from being a total skeleton forest, but it certainly looked dense, and prior experience with monster hunting was enough to remind them all of how uneven the land was there, tree roots popping up all over the place. To their left were the now frozen swamplands and meadows. Though occasionally giant toads would have popped up to terrorize the grazing fields, it was truly winter now; the ice-cold winds that whipped through the place was sufficient to drive lesser creatures into hibernation. Safer prospects, but there was the constant possibility of the ground suddenly giving way too, feet or wagon wheels sinking into cold mud.

Then again, soon enough, even their forward path would be troubled. As the sounds of the river drew closer, the more far-travelling members of the party would definitely recall the fairly wide watercourse that sliced the main road right in half. Approaching closer, it was clear that the cold weather hadn’t been able to freeze the river right over, while the simple log bridge that some would recall had bridged the expanse a week or so ago was now gone, an indent in the snow being the only sign that it was once there.

Etono’s party made regular deliveries to Fort Stalwart. Perhaps there was another bridge they could use, either in the swamplands or the forest? Or maybe these waters weren’t so deep as to be uncrossable on wagon and horse?

Well, there was one thing that was certain.

At 30 meters wide, certainly none of them were jumping across.

Or was that a challenge?

Ettamri Belarence

It was a relatively pleasant journey so far.

The whiteness of the snow, the crunch of what little snow there was on the road, the cold crisp air. Oddly enough, she didn't feel as cold as she thought she would be. Perhaps the large cloak Ettamri brought helped? She had no real trouble finding the way, considering travelled roads tended to be easy to find, and even without landmarks, she could reorient herself using the small compass she had brought. She had been out in the wilds when she woke not too long ago after all, and had specifically brought things along just in case she was lost, which did include a map of the region. Not that it will help much when it came to more specific areas, but it was good for a general idea of directions in a region and what to expect.

Their way was soon to be obstructed by a river however, one that seemed to have pulled out the log bridge that was supposed to be there.

Perhaps they could have repaired it; she definitely could have carried that sort of logs and lashed them together. But they were delivering supplies to the fort, and that was time and luxury they couldn't afford.

"Hold." She walked over to the edge of the river, looking out towards the other side for a moment. "Hmm, this is troubling."

Closing her eyes for a moment, she came upon a decision. She wasn't some backwater noble after all, she was of the House of Belarence, well trained and well educated. In situations like this...

"Hmmph. Unless any of you have a better idea, we should scout out the area first. You, idiot, and you, archer, scout out that side-" she pointed towards Muu and Oscar, before gesturing upriver "- and see if there is another way across. You, mage, and you, shieldbearer,"she pointed towards Renauld and Argentum before pointing down river ", search that way. Me and the rest shall make temporary camp here, to guard the cart. Do not fight if you can avoid it. No telling how much trouble that will bring. Return here alive or I'll drag you out of hell myself and beat you senseless."

Ettamri set down her greatclub in the wagon, and stretched, obviously expecting them to already be doing her orders. After all, there shouldn't be a better idea than hers.

This was truly something. How a lot of simple white could transform the world around them. The people, the countryside, the city of Andeave. Pretty much everything. No spring, summer, or autumn was capable of bringing forth such change. Yet, as beautiful as the pure-white landscape seemed, it was now deadlier than ever. With even nature itself out to kill the unwary.

Nonetheless, it was precisely thanks to these circumstances that missions like these existed. With a pay way above what it was usually worth. And while her Teacher mentioned that the monsters were less affected by these harsh weather conditions, surely they couldn't go completely unaffected?

Still, with Muu having somewhat taken the position to guard the rear of the wagon, her eyes held on lookout for potential dangers. Although the chance for an ambush was super low, one could never be too sure. And having a pair of eyes being somewhat watchful was better than nothing at all. Aside that, she simply somewhat kept to herself, making sure to follow her Master's advice of keeping toes and fingers active while also making sure she could still draw her three blades. Although Muu couldn't deny she had to keep herself from joining into this stupid ear-catching tune the priestess, who was essentially just a few meters in front of her, was singing. Even after all this time, as much as half-a-year was worth, she still...

No.

This was simply the power of being a blissfully ignorant and innocent child. Combined with the boredom of the monotonous (but beautiful) landscape.

Finally, however, there seemed to be some change of pace as the wagon, and the entire group, nearly stopped on Ettamri's command somewhere front. Great. A non-frozen way-too-wide river without a bridge, as far as Muu could as she moved closer to the rear of the wagon — this time giving the landscape behind them a closer look to make sure there was nothing.

Muu was used to following commands so, as the gigantic noble woman took the lead to state the obvious, she didn't really mind at all. And while it seemed somewhat counter-productive that Ettamri didn't put the Bladedancer on scouting duty, Muu simply concluded it was because she still held a grudge. So much for leader material.

Not that it bothered her, there was something Muu had wanted to do anyway. With a simple shrug and one last scan over the snowy scenery behind them, she turned towards Katya. Who was, thanks to dangling on the back of the wagon, currently taller than her.

"Hey..." She greeted the girl with a smile and a small hand-wave. This was their priestess. This was someone like— like the most important person in their party. Priests were a rarity, and Muu actually had her reasons to be grateful for that. But now? Now there she was. Simple as that.

"I know you got your—" She was still a child, right? "—super awesome magic, but I was wondering, you got any weapons? If worst comes to worst? A dagger, knife, or similar for your size?"

Oscar's smile widens as Katya chose to play along. "Ah, truly Katya. You really are the bravest, best, and strongest priestess there is in all of the land." Soon enough, the party manages to fill the cart with the expected amount Reynauld gave earlier. The ranger was about to congratulate the mage but saw the rather...ok...knot done by said magic user. Oscar waited and once the mage was not looking, he undid the knots done by the mage and tied them into a more...appropriate trucker's hitch knot. Tying the rope on the anchors of the cart, making sure that the mage not notice the little modification while doing so.

Once Ettamri returned with the horses they were off into the white abyss.

==================================================

The snow covered wilderness outside of the city walls was rather nice to look at, but it didn't hold a candle to the Ranger's Reserve. It maybe a little bias on the ranger's end, but the fact that there were no monsters hiding in the treeline was a great incentive. They had reached the snowfield when Oscar noticed something off in the group. Not once did he see anyone bring out a map to look at or a map at all. A realization struck him as harsh and unforgiving as a hammer strike to the face. Nobody had bothered to get a map. Shaking his head slightly while walking beside the right flank of cart. Truly this was a common mistake for beginners, an embarrassing mistake to those more experienced. "Foolish, foolish, foolish..." Oscar muttered into the wind. He may be an expert in traversing and navigating the wilderness and all kinds of terrain, but he had never gone past the forest, plains, nor the swamp. Anything past here is a new experience to him. But at least their leader seemed to know where this fort was judging from how she looks at her compass.

While a little bit chilly, he didn't seem to be phased by this cold as much as his companions were. Admittedly, his body had grown accustomed to the cold due to him living in a near perpetual state of camping. He was forced to adapt to the cold or risk dying in his sleep. While most normal people would need heavy winter clothing just to stop shivering. His three layers of cloak, pieces of leather armor, and warm underclothing was enough to ward off the cold and the frostbite. Though the cold brought upon the lack of sunlight was a completely different level of coldness. He dared not think what would happen to them if they failed to find shelter by the time the sun had left their company. Even more so for Katya. She may have been a soldier like any one of them, but the fact that she was still a child. Children were supposed to be in safe and in school experiencing things normal children should. Not as soldiers, not in the unforgiving wilderness, and most especially not fighting against monsters that would kill them in a heartbeat without mercy nor hesitation

Things were fucked here...and he couldn't do anything about it.

The sounds of rushing water broke his line of thought as they approached a large river that had not frozen under the negative something degree cold of winter. They stopped and observed the river. He approached the riverbank to inspect the 30 meter wide body of water. There was no crossing it without a sufficiently long bridge, nor fording it as the depths of the body of water was completely unknown to them. The tall woman told them to scout up river for a possible way across. Readjusting the had on his head, he spoke up. "Scouting? Ah, my other forte. Come along, Muu, we're burning daylight." He turns to look for the blade dancer, only to find her talking to the small priestess sitting on the back of the cart, smiling at her while doing so. Approaching the duo, he makes his presence known to them. "You really should smile more, it fits you." He comments to Muu while waving to the small priestess. "Hey, there Katya. How are you doing?"
