Generation 5 is actually my second personal favorite. Black & White really impressed me when I played it and it happened be the last time I played a Pokémon game so there’s also that.

Can’t say I agree with your assessment of 4, but those feel like well-minded issues to have.

I don't mean this as some kind of detrimental comment or anything, but I think I would've liked Diamond and Pearl more if it had been my first Pokemon games. Gen 4 came out at the time when everyone and their mother had a DS and I think it more than any other gen was a whole lot of people's 'first Pokemon game'. In the same way there are still those who wave the Gen One flag, so too are those who have such fond memories of Gen 4 that it's their favorite. And that's not a bad thing, like whatever you like it's all good. The good that Gen 4 did with the meta cannot be understated, the physical/special split remains the best thing they've done, and it even is the gen that introduced one of my favorite Pokemon (it's Froslass) but it's also the gen I have to struggle to recall something I liked about.

Basically I just want Gen 5 remakes when GameFreak when.

Fair.

I’ve been playing since the first generation and Diamond & Pearl ended up being my favorite (with Black & White as a nice second, though obviously I have nostalgia for Ruby & Sapphire and others, too.) so I don’t know. Plus, there’s something appealing about Dawn as a protagonist to me. Can’t really explain it.

my favorite game is Leaf Green overall, though

Yet you're making a judgment all the same.

I'm going spare myself reading whatever else you cooked up and simply point out. My judgement is only pointing out the obvious fallacious crutch of your argument. That you very likely continued making. (Took a second glance and you certainly did.) "Oh, tut tut, you're being mildly snarky about a game you haven't played." aka being wrong and also welcome to the internet where that happens. That you're making personal attacks about my roommate's first impression playing the game. If you can accept critical takes, actions would go farther than the words expressed here.

@ me next time

Also the only personal attacks I made about your roommate is his supposed sense of humor. If you wanna keep on misrepresenting my very obvious point of "if you haven't experienced something yourself, your opinion on it critically is about as useful as screen doors on a submarine" then we can go around the horn again, but frankly I'd rather get back to shitting on Hideo Kojima.

In regards to the new Pokemons: The type variety available in the game early on makes it really hard for me to just stick with a stable six. I suppose that's why they made it easier to swap Pokemon on the go

I haven't invested in a Switch yet, so I suppose that's why the Natdex controversy and the game's issues/non-issues haven't really mattered all that much to me insofar.

On one hand, I can understand people being upset with the National Dex or if they believe that GameFreak are no good dirty liars or whatever for cutting the dex and then re-using models like game devs do; but on the other as someone who was never really into competitive Pokemon, I feel much more inspired/able to actually 'catch 'em all' than I would be if there were 800-something dudes scattered about. I'm a fairly casual Pokemon player, I catch my favorites and I catch new ones and regardless 90% of them stay in the box all game. I see every game as a new adventure, and I'm sorry for those who like to bring in their old teams but this was going to happen sooner or later - I just wish it was handled with a bit more...care?

Frankly I'm more inclined to try out competitive battling in SwSh than I ever have before because they made it easier to do the insane EV/IV training that crazy people do.

I look at Gamefreak like Sonic Team used to be. They feel like a studio determined by the company overhead, not really wanting to make the games they are told to and told to do so on a certain time schedule. It probably sucks having all this fan outrage when your hands are effectively tied.

I've never liked the Shenmue games but Shenmue 3 being basically a game released in 2019 but with the trappings of a Dreamcast era snoozefest is eternally fascinating to me. I'm sure Shenmue fans are getting exactly what they want from that game based on the videos I've seen.

I'm not gonna bother reading over the last couple posts but I did glance over them and going to drop in that Gen 4 is my favorite. Although there was a time I actually hated Sinnoh because I played it so much, I've managed to dig it again. Yeah, it was my "first" pokemon game, but I think it's pretty cool. You've got the eevee evolutions, the underground section, cynthia, etc. to name a few things I liked. Plus the sidegames were great too. HGSS, ranger series, PBR, etc.

As for my least favorite, it'd have to be Kalos. The region is neat and the games have cool features like megas, but honestly the story and gameplay was a snooze fest and I didn't really have a challenge beating any part of it.

@Fabricant451 Isn't it just the slightest touch ironic to feign offense over not being @'d and then not do it yourself?

If you wanna keep on misrepresenting my very obvious point of "if you haven't experienced something yourself, your opinion on it critically is about as useful as screen doors on a submarine."

You literally can't, or haven't, been reading a lick of my writing have you? <.<

Okay, I'll be blunt and simple, so you understand me and continue to pretend to misunderstand better.

The only two arguments you had, and why both are wrong.

1. I can't say anything about pokemon, because I don't own it/play it myself.

(I watched my roommate play it and comment about it directly. Then I posted about it. He then bought it for me. So I not only *firsthand* watched it be played, I played the goddamn thing myself. How incapable can one person be at making a timeline or basic inferences?)

2. You can totally accept criticism.

(You spent this much time lambasting accurate observations made by my roommate. By pretending they couldn't be his comments. So yeah, malarkey.)

@Dolerman
*God another person hiding behind a new name. But since it's starter packs, I can give it a guess.*

*And I'm almost stunned by how inaccurate and lame a meme can be at the same time.*

Fine, I'll bite...Uh, Relevance?

Cuz, even pretending this about the previous conversation, that I might need to remind others that I'm not apart of. The critics are about the *lack* of diversity, (in the removed features from previous games/national dex), technically speaking.

Social/Politically. We have...things I don't recognize or care about.

The Joker, which was literally a pro-Antifa/class warfare movie at worst, or more likely just a movie about mental health.

And the only 'relevant' thing about social justice that I can conjure up, is Anita Sarkeesian, making whatever few defenders she had left criticizing/dismissing her shitty take about the new dumb star wars show on Disney Plus.

Because I can only imagine how stupid the replies are going to be. I'll post something my brother showed me that might actually be fun. (Even if it's also not entirely on topic) The video is mildly amusing, so I don't know, check it out I guess.

I'm literally not responding to anything else you might've gone on to misinterpret because I moved on, I'm done with it, I wanna talk about video games - preferably good ones or ones people think are good or something to foster conversation.

I'm enjoying ff 14. Playing through the Storm Blood expansion right now. I really like the story for Heavensward, but I have a hard time recommending it to friends because the base game (A realm reborn) is so bad. It's like eating vegetables before moving onto desert, only instead of vegetables, it's a mess of a story where 90% of it feels like mandatory side quests and doesn't really matter. Fortunately the dungeons and everything else is pretty good.

Speaking as someone who's played very few MMOs.

A Realm Reborn was a lot more forgivable back when it was all that the game had after the disaster that was 1.0. ARR had the monumental task of having to be good enough to make people forget the first go-round while also being an MMO worth subscribing to in an era of increased buy-to-play or free-to-play models. While the base game is fine, it's clear they were playing it super safe. It takes forever for the game to find a plot thread to follow and then it takes even longer for the game to do anything with the setup it introduces at like level 15.

The true issue with ARR is the post-game, pre-HS quests. Again, at the time they were a little more acceptable since the content was doled out in patches and the new trials and such were fresh challenges and all, but for new players the end of ARR plays out like a massive filler arc that only starts being interesting at the last hurdle.

FF14 is a weird game to get new people into just because of ARR's post-game since I can't suggest people buy a level skip but at the same time the game didn't really hit its stride in terms of narrative presentation and design until HS.

ARR needs a revamp or at the very least an Aetheryte outside the Waking Sands god dammit.
