I'd presume that there are also projectile weaponry enchanted to go 'anti-protection against projectiles' then. Or there's a certainly amount of force that 'protection against projectiles' can deflect, with anything above that just ripping through.

Otherwise any joe-shmoe wizard would invalidate high-tier archers.

The spell protects against mundane, unenchanted projectiles - not those of enchanted weapons or spells. That would be silly. And it would be even sillier to give PEASANTS enchanted guns and enchanted ammo. xD

magic snipers are the greatest aesthetic in the world

musket lookin ass guns

floating magic circle for a scope

casting ten floating buff magic circles per shot that appear in front of the gun and so many buffs on yourself, gun, and projectile that you make ainz ooal gown look like a bitch

creating a magic explosion to send that projectile careening through ten stacked acceleration enhancing circles

spending half the RP lying on your stomach and pooping into a sock

probably my favourite character design tbh

That's the point, yeah. Caring about what the unwashed masses can do with x technology doesn't really make sense in a world where there are actual, massive physical and magical differences between the peasants and the powerful. Even if firearms are better in the hands of peasants than bows are, bows are better in the hands of high level people than firearms are, due to stat-scaling. So an army of peasants armed with guns will be unable to overthrow much of anything, as they'd just get yeeted by a high level archer at a distance they can't even perceive.

Of course, such firearms technology still could be delivered if there was a hidden part of the world where no one is inherently capable of utilizing magic...gunslinger high elf out from the boonies? ;3

But an army of peasants with guns will be much more capable than an army of peasants with bows. It might not be indomitable, but it'll at least fare better when they don't first have to worry if they can even use the thing effectively, forget if a wizard will block their shots.

But also peasantry will always be more numerous than the rich or powerful. I'll laugh if there's enough wizards to totally invalidate an army of peasants.

Especially considering usually armies of peasants don't rise up when it's only the lowest of the low that are angry. Gotta get that middle class in there, where I assume the vast majority of your easily-deployed and numerous wizards will be.

I dunno about that. The cost of producing firearms is greater than the cost of producing bows and arrows, and I personally think that the skill involved in maintaining firearms is greater than what is required for bows too. So you have a group of untrained, undisciplined commoners, trying to work with technology that has a good chance of exploding in their face, up against, say, the army, which, while not consisting entirely of wizards, will still have enough to just rip through the peasants.

AoE magic will do a number on them, after all. It's literally a massacre, unless the peasants and the middle-class (and weirdly democratic adventurers) stupid enough to support them ALSO have their hands on powerful magical artifacts that may help them deal with the disadvantage of being composed largely of fodder.

most fantasy magic systems and societies stop making sense when you think too deeply about them.

better to just hit it with the todd howard "it just works" special

People having the ability to bend or break reality to their whims sort of invalidates any notion of "this is how things work in the real world" to begin with.

Time for bed now.

I mean, you know what would be even scarier? Mages that understand the principles of firearms and physics.

Imagine mages using a long, thin tube with a closed end... and then igniting explosive magic off at the closed end to accelerate enchanted bits at supersonic speed towards their enemies. Or take the principles behind it to accelerate existing spells at the same speed.

Take owo's magic sniper and take it up a notch, and make the entire construct a magically created one...
