In her corner, carefully blocked off from the view of much of the inhabitants of the Great Hall, Albedo began to consider her sleeping arrangements. The lack of her own bed, or anything of equivalent comfort, grated on her, she had a tolerance for lesser setups, provided they met a certain threshold. A sleeping bag on the floor did not meet that. She could not have a four poster bed or anything of sort, no, but she could take some of her Dust supply and utilise Earth Dust to sculpt a makeshift bed. With adjustments to the pillow she brought for the flight, and some skilled shaping, she could create something far more luxurious than what she currently beheld.

As the potential schematics formed within her mind, though, the sound of crying pulled her attention away, guiding her field of view along from her position, sat at the foot of her sleeping bag, to the upper class wannabes, and their newly sought objects of entertainment. Albedo half watched from her periphery, between the Faunus Briar Lance tossed to the ground, the outclassed liability with a pilfered prosthetic, and the prospective that rose to protect her. Her expression remained unchanged, throughout the conversations, and even the wink - a stoic, if slightly annoyed, side eye. If she was lucky, it would sort itself out without issue, and then she could actually start attaining some sleep.

She met the pillow at the head of her sleeping bag, content to ride out the night in lacklustre accommodation. The idea of a Dust generated bed had seemed appealing at the start, but it was a waste of high quality materials. If she had had access to some of the lesser grade materials no doubt a majority of the student body was carrying, perhaps her tune wouldn't have changed. But the sudden sound of a scuffle ensured she wouldn't have to consider the concept for much longer, as she shot up from behind her wall to watch Briar scatter into a heap on the other side of a room, and one of his rented friends take what she could only assume was a blade to the shoulder.

"What do you people think you're doing?!" Albedo shouted from across the room, as she stepped out from behind the boxes, and began to walk towards the group, casually stepping past and over the array of sleeping and half-asleep students that lay in her path. As she stepped closer, and Bren struck out at one of the other Atlesians, she stopped, placing herself on the outskirts, but between, the two sides of the conflict, as an obvious third party. "I was going to let this just play out, but some people, namely me, are trying to sleep. Trust a Faunus and its friends to escalate things too far... If you people are going to fight, take it somewhere less noisy, or I'll make sure, on the off chance any of you actually make it through Initiation, that you don't see a second year here. Got it?!"

Mei blinked with guilt as Violet spoke. "You know, you don't actually have to pay me back. Was just a joke. Though if you do have any excess money- or food, for that matter- I'll be happy to take it." Mei flashed a toothy grin as the girl went to check on the other kangaroo-looking girl, who was sobbing inconsolably. "Talk about first day jitters," Mei said, her eyes quickly turning to address the commotion. Drongo, who had been reaching for God knows what, had been tackled by what appeared to be another semi-awake Faunus wolf and also what appeared to be a dog. As the youthful Atlesian elite screamed after being suddenly pinned down to the ground, Mei shrugged, her eyes flitting towards Bren. He seemed a bit high-strung and almost lofty at the moment, but Mei supposed he was a nice enough fellow. Although the fact that he could summon guard dogs as he pleased was not a Semblance that Mei had a particularly high view of. Damned fanged beasts. "Thanks for the advice, but I got it covered," Mei said confidently, her arms folded in satisfaction, as if she hadn't almost just been shot in the back of the head. "I'm used to looking after Number One. That being me. Don't need any sort of personal rich boy looking after me." Mei gave Bren a look-over. "I'm used to looking after Number One. That being me. Don't need any sort of personal rich boy looking after me. Focus on the initiation, 'kay?"

Mei heard a vaguely annoying female voice ring out over the chaos, and her eyes locked onto Albedo. Who did this girl think she was exactly? Mei was not used to being bossed around by anybody, especially not girls that were smaller and probably younger than her. No way in hell. "Aww, did the wittle baby walk too far away from Mommy and Daddy?" Mei shot back with a sardonic, mocking baby voice. "Not sure what it was like in your castle growing up, Princess, but from where I'm from, if you want somebody to shut up, you shut them up." Mei hit her with a stinging glare, before turning away. "I'm going to go actually get some shut-eye now. So, from me to the rest of you, shut it, and I'll see you tomorrow," Mei said sharply before making her way back to her sleeping bag.

The next morning was pretty much a blur. Nothing particularly interesting happened- Mei woke up, got changed back into the same jacket she had worn during her arrival at Beacon, wolf down another monstrous helping of food at breakfast, and then made her way out to the landing site- a small clearing on the top of a cliff, that overlooked the massive Emerald Forest. Mei looked out in wonder as she took in the natural landscape. She hadn't really gotten much of a chance to explore nature too much in her formative years. The forest really was a breathtaking site. Standing at the top of the cliff alongside her was the noble-looking Carlisle, still in his finest suit of armor, holding what appeared to be a chalice in his hand. Standing next to him was a woman, around his age or perhaps a tad younger, with locks of steely blue hair and sharp dark eyes. She seemed much more serious-looking than the interim Headmaster. And hotter, too, but that was far besides the point.

The knight directed the group of initiates over onto a set of steel pads on the cliff, before coughing. "Greetings, initiates! I hope you had a good night's sleep." He smiled fondly. "This is your day to shine and earn your place at Beacon. Standing before you is the mighty Emerald Forest, and within it are a number of creatures of Grimm. Your goal will be to traverse the dangers of the forest and make your way across towards the Initiation Temple." Carlisle gestured vaguely into the distance. "At the Temple, you will be obtaining a relic, and then returning back to this clifftop location to complete your task! And that's it, I believe. Azure?"

Azure was looking boredly at her Scroll. "Sterling, you missed almost everything. Partners, teams, et cetera..."

"Ah, an intentional error, for I was testing your listening skills!" Carlisle said without missing a beat. "Today is not just the day you earn your spot at Beacon, but the day you earn your spot on a team! Your partnership will be determined through the tradition Beacon way- the first person of whom you lay eyes upon once you leave this clifftop!" Sterling smiled brightly, though the students seemed to have a much more negative reaction to this news. "No ifs and buts, my future Huntsmen. Fate has a plan for you, and we will be making sure that you follow what destiny has written. Once you arrive at the initiation site, you will be matched with another partnership through your Relic of choice! Those teams will be final. No ifs, no buts. This has always worked in the past, and we will continue to uphold this great tradition!" Carlisle raised his cup joyfully. "You will be watched and graded on your performance throughout this trial. However, we will not be intervening on your behalf. Unless, of course, you try to cheat. Cheating is strongly discouraged at Beacon. Any attempt of sabotage will be noted and punished, even in the face of imminent death. Alright, that covers everything!" Carlisle smiled jovially at this ominous statement.

"Alright-y then, now I do think we’ve covered everything on the docket.” Carlisle glanced at Azure before gesturing grandly towards the sun. ”I hope you’ve prepared your landing strategy in advance. Otherwise, you might be in for a rough touchdown. Now, fire away!"

Mei had no time to do anything before a Huntsman was flung from their landing pad and launched into the night sky. Mei blinked as, one by one, Hunters were launched into the blue sky, hurtling over the treetops into the depths of the forest. Mei quickly hashed together a plan in her head as the initiates were sequentially launched into the Emerald treeline. Nobody had exactly told her that this was the Initiation- perhaps she should’ve asked- but Mei had no intention of failing this initiation because she fell. She bent her knees and, as the pad sprung her off the clifftop, she soared through the air, grabbing Wicked Demon from her back and twirling the scythe in her hand as she flew through the air. As she began to descend, she flicked the weapon, the scythe head extending from the rest of the device and latching itself to a thick tree branch. A confident smirk clear on her face, Mei swung down like a little girl on a very high swing, looping 360 degrees around the branch before tugging the bladed edge free. Mei launched upwards and then fell back down, landing Mei nimbly on the branch.

”Not bad," Mei said as she nimbly hopped through the canopy, jumping quietly from tree branch to tree branch. "Now, let’s find that temple thing, or whatever. God, this challenge is stupid...." As she lamented the entire concept of the challenge, she thought about this mysterious partnership idea. Who would make a good partner? Mei couldn’t really think of a ‘best’ option. Bren came off as a touch haughty but was nice enough, she supposed. Rowan was...interesting, but at the very least he could fight decently. Metal Arm seemed sweet but also seemed like the type that would be pancaked on landing, so Mei doubted she would even come into contact with her. There were a couple of other Faunus as well that Mei had seen as well that seemed alright. Maybe they would be a good fit. This was all conjecture, though.

As she moved through the treetops, she heard a rustling below her and stopped, grabbing her scythe. It seemed as though it was time for action. Mei leaped down from the branch, confronting whatever was moving down below her.

Violet rubbed the back of her head at Mei. "Haha, right. Duh. Th-that's pretty funny. I don't really...have much, though." She said. Lots of people joined in. More rich girls, Bren and the Faunus girl, and of course team BLUD. Everyone was kind of just posturing and looking tough, and Violet really just wasn't into it at all. She just wanted people to stop being mean to each other. She took no pleasure in seeing the bullies "get their come-uppance." It all just seemed so stupid and small compared to what was at stake out there. Her feelings were easily hurt, and as Violet regained her composure she couldn't help but be frustrated with herself that things had gone this poorly already.

Sky decided to sit next to the inconsolable Faunus and be in her company the best she could before she had to go to bed. Yawning, she removed her prosthetic and set them in a locked metal case next to her. She stared up at the dark ceiling of the Great Hall.

"Mom, Dad...I'll make you proud." She whispered.

"Hey, uh, soak it in, new guys." Sky said to everyone her. Particularly those who were from outisde the country. "This is Vale at it's prettiest." She smiled genuinely, taking in the view.

The Emerald Forest was beautiful. Sky had never travelled very deeply into it for obvious reasons, but as ominous as it could be sometimes it was still majestic in it's own way. It seemed to go on forever. And the ruins within were pretty, in their own sad, melancholic way.

Sky was back in her jumpsuit. A backpack was slung over one shoulder, and resting across both was a Big Wrench. A giant steel thing taller than Sky herself (though that wasn't saying much). It looked heavy and unwieldy. The crescent wrench tip had a hole in the center, resembing a barrel. And near the bottom the wrench turned into a stock, trigger, and what looked like a bolt action reloading interface.

Sky blinked as Carlisle revealed his plan. "Leavin' it up to luck, huh? Uh...okay, I guess." She shifted uneasily, smiling nervously. She hoped she didn't get someone mean.

When the first huntsman got launched, Sky flinched. "W-woah! Wh-what? Really? Are we? Oh, Gods." She clutched her Big Wrench like a life raft.

"Um, umm, umm, Professor? Umm, uh, I can't- I can't, I don't-" Her mind was racing as she tried to think of a plan. "Wait, I don't UAAAAAAAAHAAAAHH!" Violet screamed. She went sailing through the air and immediately began to spiral out of control, her Big Wrench throwing her terribly off balance.

Sky desperately reoriented herself in the air. Fear of splatting etched into her face, she pointed her Big Wrench to the ground. Thank goodness she loaded in her non-heated ammo. She fired a blast of what looked like hard shrapnel. That slowed her down some. The canopy was approaching fast. She fired two most blasts and then flicked a switch. The blasts turned into a steady stream of what looked like thick orange glue, or paste. It coated the branches infront of her. She hit the branches and since they were sticky, they slowed her down somewhat. Most of the glue was just travelling through and creating a big puddle somewhere on the ground.

Sky's right thigh hit a branch. "Oof!" She span and smacked her midsection into a thicker one. "BLEUGH!" She retched.

Waving her hands out, she fell backwards, bonking her back on yet another branch before falling face first into a pile of goo, limbs spread eagle.

Moaning, she rolled over onto her back, placing a hand on her hat to make sure it was still there. "Uunnh..." She whipped her wrists back and forth, shaking the goo free.

The moan transitioned into a pained laughed as she did a double handed face palm. She leaned up and saw her Big Wrench laying a few feet away. "Ohohohoooh...maaann...come on, dude." She said to no one, coughing, a smile on her face.

"Ugh." She rolled over again, onto her hands and knees, and crawled over to Big Wrench. She gathered it up in her hands.

Yeah, that sucked. Violet thought Big Wrench was saying. In the way it laid there on the ground, barrel leaking, cell almost empty. Leaned, a little sassily, against a branch. We're definitely gonna have to work on that.

"Well, dang. I didn't...I didn't think they'd just toss me like that. I thought we were fighting Grimm, not gravity." Wheezing a little, she sat down next to Big Wrench and tried catching her breath.

"Okay...okay. I got it. You know what I need?" Sky snapped her mechanical finger, having an idea.

What? Big Wrench asked.

"A utility belt."

Oh. Oh that's good.

"Right?"

I like it.

Violet ran her fingers over and under the belt currently around her hips. "I'm thinkin'...I'm thinkin' I boost the durability. Get a harness on me, so it can be heavy. Then, I just...fill it with stuff. Like." She held one hand into the air.

"Imagine- Imagine a glider. I just grab a little thing and a...Hard-Light? No. No that won't work. Don't have any Hard-Light dust."

A particularly foamy and cushiony chemical solution, then?

"Oh! Oh, yeah! I just grab like, a grenade, and throw it at the ground then FWOOSH! A bunch of goo goes everywhere. Quick drying and fast decaying, not like that other stuff." She jerked a thumb over her shoulder to the orange goo still dripping from the trees. One could clearly trace her path crashing through the green branches above.

Violet smacked her metal fist into her palm. "Splat! My Aura does the rest. I just need to do some sort of crazy spinning attack with you to knock all the branches out of the way first. OOH!" Sky cut herself off with a shout. "Oh! Oh! A grapple hook! Grapple hooks are awesome!" She closed one eye and stuck out her tongue. She held an imaginary grapple hook launcher in her hand and fired it.

"Ptseeeew fwooshfwoosh CLANK!" She pulled the grapple hook tight after it wrapped around the branch. Straining against G-forces! "Hhrrrgh! Oof!" She pushed herself into a tumbling roll from her nonexistant fall. She skidded to a stop.

Seems entirely practical.

"Yeah. Okay. We'll do both. Grapple hook, jump, goo ball." She stared up at the blue sky and clouds drifting up ahead. She smiled, her violet eyes full of excitement. The canopy whispered in the wind overhead. The sun filtered in rays through the leaves.

"...Sure is pretty, isn't it?" Sky mused.

The next day
Emerald Forest
Kingdom of Vale

Fen flew as he propelled himself forward. He wasn't one of the first to be launched from the pad, so he was prepared for his turn. And as he began to descend, he fired shots from his tonfas at an angle, sending him further ahead and slowing his descent. When he felt that he could drop safely, he stopped shooting, letting himself land on a particularly sturdy branch. And as the leaves from the tree fell from the impact, he waited for any possible danger. Feeling that he was safe, he jumped down to the forest floor.

Taking a deep breath, Fen looked around. Seeing the forest from the outside, and being in it now felt like two entirely different experiences for him. There was nothing around him, and he couldn't help but crack a faint smile as he took in the peaceful atmosphere for a moment. However, he had a objective to complete, and started to move. But he stopped as he thought about it more, and looked back, towards the cliff where he came from.

Fen went further than the others, most of them at the very least. And by the Headmaster's words, it seemed like he needed a partner for the rest of the initiation. He walked back towards the cliff as he looked for a potential partner along the way.

Zargun Nouri

The Next Day
Emerald Forest
Kingdom of Vale

Yes, Today is the day, Zargun thought happily as he made his way to the landing, having already changed into his normal clothes. It was a nice view of the Emerald Forest from atop the cliff. Just another thing he enjoys about his new home in comparison to Vacuo. Which while he does love his old home, the green and lively environment of Vale can't quite compare to the desert wasteland that is Vacuo. It made him wish he could have seen more outside of the capital but, having to care for two younger siblings whenever uncle was away meant there was no time for it. Still, nice to see more of what Vale has to offer during this initiation.

Zargun eagerly listened to what Carlisle said and was slightly confused when Carlisle brought up having a landing strategy. Before he could wonder, a student got launched into the air. Uh, that is the surprise that uncle warned me about. Zargun thought as he watched more students get launched into the air. Giving himself some time to prepare before he was launched into the air. Flying through the air, Zargun could. When he started to descend, Zargun brought out Oathkeeper from his back. He started firing at an angle to slow him down. Once he was slowed enough, Zargun put Oathkeeper away and dodging some trees. He landed with a roll to break his fall and rolled a bit before coming to a stop.

Getting up, Zargun took a deep breath and scanned his surroundings. That sure was something, and as far as he could tell, no one was near him. For the moment, at least, he was not paying attention to where the others had landed. Too focus on where he was going and coming up with a way to land on the fly. A thought came to him, and he let out a chuckle. "So uncle had to go through that too," letting out another chuckle. Now, what other surprises does this initiation, he wondered? But that will have to wait for now. He has to find a relic, and from what Carlisle said. A partner as well. Hopefully, they are not a prick. He thought as he took another deep breath. Unsheathing Oathkeep in his gun form and started walking towards the ruin while on the lookout for anyone that might cross his path.

"Sure, if you say so," Bren shrugged in response to Mei as she went to check on the other Faunus. If she didn't want someone to step in and prevent her from getting shot then that was her business. He just wouldn't bother next time around. Maybe this would give Briar and his friends a moment of pause the next time they decided to try and mess with someone else though. He whistled and Ajax trotted back over to his side, shrinking a bit in size as he did so. "Good job," he patted the spirit on the head, "Get some rest alright, big day tomorrow." Technically the spirits didn't get tired, but it had become a habit at this point. It was getting a bit tiring keeping him present anyway, especially having him fight.

He sighed as another loud voice called out. He was pretty sure she was from Atlas as well, some Dust family or something like that. Mei immediately shot back at her and he decided that was not something he wanted to get involved in. He couldn't help but agree with her a bit. How was it that so many of these people thought they could throw their status around when they'd just gotten here? It made little sense to him, but then again his family, while somewhat well known, didn't necessarily hold the same status. It wasn't worth it to get into another fight or argument so he wandered back to his spot against the well and took stock for initiation the next day.

T H E N E X T D A Y

He had to admit that Vale did have its nice spots. While it wasn't anything like the floating cities and snow covered lands of Atlas he found he quite liked the sea of green that stretched out into the forest below them. He was comfortably in his regular clothes, long coat over the top of everything and the familiar weight of Guardian at his side. Their headmaster's speech certainly felt a bit all over the place, but he supposed he understood well enough. Broke down to find a partner, get a relic, and make it back here. Easy enough.

As the rest of the them began to get launched into the air, with a few exclamations from some of them, he prepped himself for the same. It certainly wasn't how he'd expected to get down the cliff and into the forest, but it seemed that Beacon was full of surprises. He crouched and waited, already scanning where the other students were going and picking a tree to aim for. The pad gave plenty of lift as he pulled Guardian free and let the rifle blast slow his speed enough that he could easily aim for the large tree he had picked out on top of the cliff. He easily changed his weapon into its bladed form and slammed it into the side of the trunk letting the sharp blade cut through and slow his descent even further. Once he got close enough to the ground he pulled the blade free and allowed himself to drop into a roll on the floor.

He kept the blade of Guardian out, he had no idea what to expect to find in the forest here and he wasn't going to take any chances. He would wait to summon any of his spirits until something actually dangerous showed up, no need to waste energy on something trivial. He looked up to the canopy and through the trunks of the trees. Didn't seem like anyone was nearby, so he'd just have to wait a bit to pick up a partner then. He wasn't sure who would be best to get paired with. Violet was nice, if a little nervous and unsure, and the Faunus seemed capable enough in a fight. He didn't get much of an idea about any of the others in the Great Hall. He started in the direction of where the ruins were likely to be keeping an ear out for anything unusual.

Chari stood in position overlooking the seemingly endless sea of green before them, refusing to look at anything beyond what lies ahead. She was bitter about the events of last night as with it eroded any illusions and hesitations she had been harboring about Beacon. There was not a chance she was going to play bystander again. How that girl could be so cheerful the day after eluded her. Lily had leaked some information about this but she hadn't realized that teams would be chosen so haphazardly. If the first person she sees out there is one of those assholes from last night...No! This was no time to worry. She would survive anything thrown at her. Failure was not an option. Landing strategy? Hah! She would adapt on the fly, like always. Press forward and never look back. Ever.

She bent her legs readying herself in the few seconds before the pad launched into her into the air. All of this was insane, but that's why Beacon had its reputation. This was how she always imagined flying would feel. Soaring high above the rest of the world cutting through the wind, not in some giant tin can. Her head fell out of the clouds as she did and Chari readied her lance with a steady breath. She overclocked the tiny thrusters as her feet came close to the top of one tree, drastically slowing her descent as she slipped through the sprawling branches. Finally her feet landed onto a branch big enough to support her and she made her way down from there. However, the maneuver played havoc with her weapon's thrusters. A quick check revealed they had overheated which meant they were useless until they cooled off. It was fine. She had no issue wielding her weapon without them.

It was time to make her way to the temple, wherever that might be. Each step she expected a grimm to charge out of the dense brush but she was equally anxious about running into someone. At this point, she would prefer the grimm. The young huntress's footsteps came to an abrupt stop as her right ear twitched with the faint sound of a voice. Following the direction it was coming from, Chari came across a particular blue-haired cyborg in a small clearing. Her eyes widened as she approached from Violet's blindspot just as she began talking to no one at all. From the sound of things, It was quite the conversation. Chari wasn't really sure if she interrupt or just get away while she still could. After all, they didn't exactly lock eyes right? Her right foot took a step back ready to slip away from the crazy before her, but she couldn't do it. This girl was going to get eaten for sure without someone to watch her back.

"You must've really hit your head when you landed, huh? Chari said plainly, leaning against her lance hoping she was not going to regret this. At the least, she wasn't one of those clowns from last night or miss princess. SHE did seem to know a thing or two about machines. Maybe she could help with Sovereign Right's overheating. Chari lifted her lance and rested it against her shoulder as she stepped closer, her other hand laying on her hip. She did her best to offer a small smile, but she wasn't sure her lips move at all "Chari." She hoped that was good enough? Chari always hated introductions.

"Oop!" Violet seemed a little startled, interrupted from her reverie. She sat up turned around and saw the Faunus igrl leaning very casually and cooly against a tree. Her face flushed a little red and she laughed, standing to her feet. Brushing some leaves and grass from her jumpsuit, she cleared her throat.

"Haha, yeah, something like that. It's- I like- uhm, I like to talk to myself. Helps me think." She tapped the side of her temple. It seemed like she was holding something back. The full nature of her Semblance wasn't particularly relevant now, anyway.

"Hi, Chari!" Sky skipped forward so she could get closer to her. She extended out her flesh hand for an excited little handshake. "I'm Violet! Violet Skye Syfri. You can just call me Sky. With no E. It's- it's fine. Sky is fine. Or Violet. Whatever, it's cool, I don't care, it's all good to me!" She managed, stumbling over her words.

"Well, we made eye contact. Guess we're partners now!" Sky said. Sky was happy that Chari decided to still be her partner, even though she saw Sky talking to herself.

"Ooh," Sky looked at Chari's weapon. "Very cool! What's her-, uh, what's its name?" Sky asked. "Mine is-" she reached over her shoulder, but her Big Wrench wasn't there. It was still sitting by the tree.

"Oops!" Sky scampered over to it and collected the blunt object, holding it in her hands. She forgot that as much as it was a living thing to her, Big Wrench couldn't exactly defend itself.

I don't know what you mean. I'm a master of camoflage. Sky raised a skeptical eyebrow and giggled, looking back at Chari. "This is, this is Big Wrench. It's a...Big Wrench. Ha ha. Get it?"

@Hitman@Vocab@PrankFox

If Rowan were being completely honest, he'd actually stopped listening to everyone pretty quickly after he kicked the bully ringleader, by which he of course meant about five seconds. He briefly registered the fox girl who'd been challenging earlier complaining about losing the challenge, which he had considered calling her out for until she acknowledged his badass kick, at which point he decided to spare her the humiliation of losing an argument too.

Not long after that, a bit more fighting had broken out, with another faunus coming in to help the red-haired guy as he took him down with the help of some kind of ghost dog. Kinda lame that it'd taken two of them to finish someone so weak, but he'd give them the credit of their styles at least being pretty cool, if nothing else...

After that, not much of any real importance happened. Some weird girl started yelling at them over... honestly he hadn't been listening, but she mentioned something about fauna and making sure they wouldn't make it through to their second year. He'd been confused at first, because he didn't know what being fauna had anything to do with the current situation. Not making it to through initiation or to the second year though, well, that made her intentions crystal clear!

"Oh, I get what you're sayin' now..." He said, a grin slowly spreading across his face. "You're sayin' you're aimin' to beat me outta the competition tomorrow, right?! Well, challenge accepted! Assumin' you're actually strong enough to put one up, that is!"

And with that declaration of war, he went back to his sleeping bag, ready to try and get as much sleep as he could and be ready bright and early for the next day.

It wouldn't do to disappoint his new rival, after all!

He got maybe an hour of sleep. He'd gotten himself too hyped up.

Damn it, he was glad he'd found a rival, but did she have to challenge him right before it was time to sleep? If she'd only done it before he'd kicked that guy, he could've poured all his excitement into that and slept like a log! As a result, he found himself moving basically on autopilot through most of his morning training, and then a few more things he didn't pay attention, and unfortunately only realised that he hadn't quite come back to reality until he noticed a student being launched off the cliff they'd wound up on. Which was unusual, but why would...

Oh, this was the initiation.

Well... shit, ok. He hadn't been listening at all to any instructions he was sure had just been given, but whatever, he'd just have to wing it. Heh. But yeah nah he'd just find someone else to get the gist of what the hell they were meant to be doing from.

It was with that thought that Rowan was launched from the cliffside, barely even having to think as he activated his cape, decreasing his weight, and settling into a smooth glide over the forest. Thankfully, it had barely even been a few seconds before he caught sight of someone he... well, didn't really know, but had fought alongside, using his weapon to slide down a tree. He circled overhead for a moment, waiting for him to reach the ground, before adjusting his angle and weight and deactivating his cape to drop down in front of him, in what Rowan could safely call a satisfactorily awesome landing.

"Yo, Dog Guy. Where you listenin' to whatever the headmaster guy said we were meant to be doin'?"

It didn't take as long as Bren had expected for him to find someone, or rather they found him. One of the other guys that had jumped into the fight with Briar, specifically the one who'd sent him flying, which Bren could appreciate, hit the ground in front of him. He didn't have anything that obviously gave him the ability to fly so either dust or his semblance then; he'd figure it out later. Or just ask but they didn't really have time for that at the moment.

"Dog guy?" He grinned and propped Guardian up on his shoulder, "I guess you're not wrong, name's Bren though." A bit of a frown crossed his face at the question, of course it was the one person who didn't pay attention to the headmaster to find him. As long as he made a capable partner for this though he didn't really care. "We're supposed to get a partner, go to some ruin, and pick up an artifact then return to the cliff. You're the first person I've seen so I guess that makes us partners." The headmaster didn't bother to give them any idea of what direction the temple might be in though, but that probably counted as a part of the initiation.

He gestured deeper into the forest, "I imagine the ruins are deeper in, no reason for it to be too easy and that's where everyone else is headed." He shrugged his blade back off his shoulder before taking off at a jog deeper into the woods. He figured this guy would follow after him. He got the impression that he liked to be in the spotlight judging by his immediate reaction to Briar and his goons was to dropkick the ringleader. "Better get moving, we don't want to be last to the ruins!"

"Well, so far, this trial is..... going well, I suppose." Saying it softly to himself as he walked through the forest. So far, Zargun has not seen anyone or anything cross his path, which is both a blessing and a problem. Sure, not having to fight at the moment meant he could conserve his energy for when he needed it. Like if he encounters a Grimm but, Zargun felt uneasy. He needed to find someone to partner up with in order to pass this trial. Should he have seen someone or anyone by now? Zargun does not know for how long he has walked through the forest. He does not want to get ambushed or anything like that before he finds someone. Stopping in place and took a moment to look around once again. Still, nothing, and Zargun took a deep breath. Surely he is bound to find someone before it is too late.

To feel more comfortable during his search, Zargun switched Oathkeeper to its sword form. The glaive form is not going to do much in the tightest of a forest, and he is better at slicing than aiming with a gun. Giving Oathkeeper a few twirls before stopping with a satisfied smile. Now he feels better but, the fact remains. Zargun needed to find someone and soon. He does not want to fail his first chance to be a Huntsman just because he could not find a teammate. That would just be.... humiliating, and Zargun shook at the thought. No, he will not fail this trial and go back to Aerion empty-handed. So Zargun started walking forward, now actively looking for any sign of a person.

As Zargun was looking for a partner, it was then that he spotted someone. He stopped in this track took a good look at the man. It looked like a faunus judging by the ears, and it looks he is walking back to the cliff. Maybe he is looking for someone else, well, he thought. Why else would he be heading back? So with another deep breath and confidence in hand. All the while hoping that this guy is not a prick. Walked up to Fen with a friendly smile. Once he got close enough, "Hey stranger." Zargun gave a small wave with his left hand and locked eyes with him. "I am Zargun, and it looks like we are partners now. So what is your name?"

As he continued walking through the forest, Fen grimaced as he bit an apple. It was something he pocketed while getting breakfast, a little snack for later. But he didn't expect it to be so sour. He continued biting into it anyway; It was wrong to waste food, and it kept his mind off the tranquility of his surroundings, which began to annoy him. There wasn't any immediate danger so far; Even so, he kept the inactive Gjöll in one hand, ready to be unsheathed at the slightest hint of a threat.

But it wasn't long before Fen found someone far off into the distance. A man carrying what appeared to be a sword, all alone. It was safe to assume he was another student, and thankfully in need of a partner like himself. Fen walked at his casual pace towards the man; They were bound to meet up, and if the person was anything like Fen, he'd take running at him poorly. As he drew closer, Fen could make out more details about his possible partner. There was nothing that particularly stood out, except being slightly taller than Fen. It didn't matter much to him, he didn't know what kind of partner he'd personally like, not that he was given a choice. When they finally met face to face, the man introduced himself as Zargun.

"Hey. Fen Saffron." Fen waved back and jutted his thumb towards himself, an apple core still in his hand. There was an awkward silence afterwards, as Fen had nothing else to say to Zargun, and the two apparently began a impromptu staring contest. Deciding to break the lull himself, Fen silently pointed back, towards their destination. He immediately did a 180 on the spot, and walked back.

That went.... well. If well means an awkward silence that only ended with the guy walking away. At least Zargun knows his name now, and Fen seemed fine for the moment. Hopefully, he is not someone that Zargun would hate down the line. Even if it is just for this trial, it will suck if Fen proved to be someone like a bully. Fen being a Faunus was not really an issue. Zargun has no problem with them despite some people that he has seen in Vale. In Vacuo, as long as you can survive in the wasteland, you are welcomed. A popular saying that Zargun remembers to be true while he lived in Vacuo. In Vale, it is a different story, it seems.

As he was thinking about this, some time passed before he snapped to attention. Realizing that Fen was getting farther away and Zargun would say, "Hey, wait up," and ran to get to Fen. After reaching Fen, Zargun broke into a walk and gave a small smile to Fen. Before looking ahead and after some minutes of silence. Zargun tried to make some small talk to pass the time. Zargun spoke. "So Fen.... you ready to be a Huntsman? Zargun's free left hand went nervously behind his head. What the frick should he say? He already spoke, so it is too late unless he changes the topic fast. No, let's see what Fen's says and try to work from there.
