Yacai was a starter in the MMO Chamber of Wanderers. It acted as a branching hub to the outerworld as well, with various roads splitting outward from it and the massive Greens River. Early level characters could visit masters/mentors in the area to respec their class should they not be having fun with their current role, though this option falls off after level ten or so (Otherwise it became costly to do so). It would also teach the basic mechanics of how fetch quests, and basic movement works. Advancing players could start crafting skill trees from the area as well.

Player Name: G3O_VAN[, aka Geo was a relatively new player. They were a Kinnara, an avian-humanoid race with bird like legs and arms that resembled orange wings. They wore a wooden beaked mask, and plain tan clothing as they hadn't progressed much further beyond the tutorial at this point, but it was enough to hide their physical build. They were currently under a default 'warrior' class, and had a starter spear.

"Glad the mask was an option, definitely looks pretty cool! Though need to find some good quest drop items to go with it."
They'd state as they wandered around town. They would look about the area for any other, wandering players looking to gather a small party or duo.

Beggar bandit

The raggedly dressed man gripped his cane firmly as he staggared around his enemy, circling the statue of a man standing before him. The bandit panted heavily. He had expended so much energy and even his qi to unleash almost everything he had on his foe. They had proved far more dangerous than the bandit was ready for. Now he looked for an opening, a weakness. It wasn't that his attacks hadn't landed, the enemy was far from a powerful foe. The issue came from the rythmic hand gestures the adversary kept doing. Even now he saw them starting them up, and so they lunged it to take advantage of this distraction, and his cane slammed hard into the enemy's shoulder. Unfortunately, the damage did little to stop the movement.

you take 4 damage!

"healing palms!" The enemy called out, then with a golden glow his bruises and wounds faded away and the bandit was right back where he began. Now the unmoving man moved, his fist flinging out and slamming into the bandit! The fist clobbered directly into their chin and caused the beggar sect minion to stumble back. His foot, searching for purchase, caught on one of his fallen foes as he fell to the ground.

you deal 5 damage!

The brawl continued, but there wasn't much of a fight left. The Bandit put up a valiant effort, and having a weapon gave him an advantage. Unfortunately, just when he started to make progress a single hit managed to finish the fight and the wounds he dealt was healed away with the same healing palms technique.

Playername: Doctor_Buttz, had been in the game for a while now. They had joined with some friends in college, but classes where not equal and work took up any free time they might have had. This was one of the rare days when they managed to get to play. It was late in their dorm, but despite knowing better they were delaying sleep with hours of witching hour gaming. Doctor_buttz let out a heave of exhaustion as the last Bandit fell and their wounds where healed. It had been slow going, even slower since they had gotten to a road block in the form of the nearest dungeon. Without help and without much to do they had been spending time grinding out exp and loot from the wandering low level grunts in the Goldspan road. Things had been harder since their staff had been destroyed in their first attempt at soloing the dungeon.

you gain 58 exp!
You collected 5 gp!
You found 6 weapon components!

Doctor_Buttz, or Doc as the few strangers they had worked with, sighed in exasperation as they looked at the combat log. Nearly half an hour of labor all but wasted. They cursed themself for not respecing before they had hit level 10, or for putting points into the smithing skill. A shaman was no fighter, and without a weapon it wasn't much better. Mana was getting low, and it was time to head back to the main town. The plain looking individual turned away as the fallen bandits began to fade away, newer versions of themselves bound to respawn any moment.

Doc was a rather plain looking man in the game. They had done very little to edit the default design. A white turban and robes with a red shaw that barely covered the shoulders and ended half way down the midsection. A necklace and two rings adorned the character, a few little trinkets to try to boose stats, mostly a makeshift replacement for a weapon, a damage boosting ring, an HP boosing ring, and a necklace to boost their healing spells. Their character was a petite man, with a toned musculature that was all but required of a character model. Their dark skin contrasted their blue eyes and the only hair exposed on the young yet masculine face was the white eyebrows above their beautiful eyes.

The trip back to town wasn't a hard one but it felt like ages before he was back. Doc couldn't really mind it though. Amongst the monotony of grinding and selling discarded loot, the peaceful walk through a beautiful river valley was far from unappreciated. In a way they where upset when the got to the bustling hub town for new players. Most players these days where a higher level, but Buttz couldn't help but return to this place. He traded in his Weapon Components for a few measily GP, and spent time waiting for their HP and MP to return. Once it did, they tried the same method that had failed them every other time.

"anyone need a healer? Trying to grind for levels tonight" They called out, sitting on a park bench on the main street in town.

Geo had been dashing about the place for a few minutes. It seemed he hadn’t garnered enough attention to get into a party right away. Although something felt off to him. He sworn the time hadn’t been too late, but the number of players in the area seemed pretty small, or at least in the plaza. Maybe there was some maintenance or some other event that had started & he missed the notification. It wasn’t too worrying right this moment as there were still players around and walking about, but not as large in number as expected.

The players he did see or run past so far were either shopping at stores or setting up vendor stalls themselves. In the latter case they were pretty much AFK in the main plaza, and made it a little hard to spot other active players purely by field of vision. Being new, Geo hadn’t the chance of purchasing equipment at this time as it was. He was far better off speedrunning quests for equipment from the looks of it, and the early tutorial monster fights hadn’t dropped much except for a few copper and obscure crafting materials that he couldn’t use yet.

As he dashed about, there was something bright that moved in the corner of his eye. A new person that had walked into the main area wearing a white turban & a red shawl. It helped this, Doctor_Buttz stand out among the background colors. Definitely in comparison to Geo’s own bland and somewhat camouflaging tans and browns. Another player just casually walking about, and not tied up in other business seemed like a great opportunity to drop in on.Only to hear them looking for a team a moment later.

“A healer! Sweet!”
Geo would shout at the offer as he came barreling over. A blur of soft browns & orange feathers charging right toward Doctor_Buttz from the west side. Before practically hopping onto and standing on the bench beside them. He did choke down a laugh at their username, and was partially surprised it got past a game’s censoring system.

“I am Geo! A spearman eager to have some fun in this world.”
He would perform a basic figure eight with his starter spear. He moved it slow both for the practice, and also not to accidentally whack the healer next to him. It felt more organic to do the movement entirely manually as he’d dip the spear blade and guide it around in an ‘infinite’ type pattern in the air in front of him.

“I’m going to be on for a few hours, and definitely could use the levels. Although I’m hoping for a bit of armor, at least light armor that matches this here.”
He tapped at his beak bask.

Doc sat back in the Bench. The world they where in was beautiful, and even though he was here to grind their hours away, they couldn't help but take in the scerenity of it all. The trees swaying in the breeze, the way the sunlight and shadows around town all created the shadows against light. Even in the starting village, it was nice to stop and enjoy the amount of effort the developers must have put into the little things. The trickle of the streams that went into town, the general feng shui. It all aided in soothing Doc's mind and easing the stress of grinding for a new stave. The free moment made them consider if wasting precious sleep on a game was a good idea, but they quickly lost their train of thought when a shout caught their attention.

Doc turned, only to see a blur of dull colors before a strange bird-man was suddenly before them, perched on the bench like standing on a seat was normal. They swirled their staff with a confidence unexpected of a player, especially a new one. Doc could tell by the armor they wore alone that they hadn't been playing for long. He had managed to see a few glimpses of the pristine and flashy sets of armor his friends had. They looked like gilded gods amongst the peasantry when they had played with him and showed him the ropes. That felt like years ago, even if it had only been a month.

Doctor_Buttz smiled softly to the stranger, looking up at them in their unusual but appreciated display of energy and guile.
"Nice to meet you Geo, call me doc. I'm trying to have some fun in this world too" He stated in a plain tone, but he couldn't help but chuckle at the last statement. Trying was an understatement. He was begging to have fun, but the tedium reminded him of life outside the game more than anything. Doc moved to stand up when a box appeared on his screen. Another smaller image of mail signalled to him that he would have another one appear soon enough.

Doc gladly tapped both buttons, and as he did a smaller series of bars appeared under his username along with Geo's full username. Doctor_Buttz admired the stats for a moment, frowning a bit to see the lower level.

Still, they weren't far off, and comparatively Geo would be a much harder hitter at the very least. The turban-wearing monk returned their gaze to the masked bird before him, nodding in approval. This would do just fine, and could greatly benefit both of them.
"If it's levels you're after, I think we can both agree on that. I've been trying to get out of this starting area for a bit but well, I'm not exactly doing much on my own here." He stated simply, motioning to his lack of weaponry, then to Geo's spear.
"I bet you and I could make a good team. There's a bandit hideout not too far from here. Bet there is good loot there too," He stated, pointing in the direction where his map marker glowed on his screen.
"I'll keep you alive if you knock a couple heads," Doc stated before letting out an audible yawn as he spoke.

"Sweet, calling you Doc is a bit of a relief. Have to say you definitely know how to pick out a rather fun name, friend!"
Geo would chuckled right back. At least partially relieved he wouldn't need to call the shaman 'buttz' for now. It did seem like an interesting conversation starter, but in truth Geo was somewhat tunnel visioned. He had been through the tutorial to get used to the intergrated movement system along with the standard MMO introduction guides which he may have skipped a bit past for simplicities sake . Now, he was far more excited to travel forth into the world with a gaming partner, not to mention embrace the combat system to a degree. The tutorial had non-moving dummies, and they weren't all too exciting in design.

Once Doc had actually accepted both the party and friend invite, Geo would stop his staff. Pulling it to his chest in a mini-cheer. The good ol' show 'em a cool spin technique worked wonders to impress. Which Geo had some experience with a bit outside of the game. Although using an actual weapon in the real world was... well a story for another time. The experience hadn't come from playing this specific game at least, as seen by Geo's relatively low-level, but at least it wasn't leagues below Doc's own.

"Well, that tracks. You're level 10 so that's roughly where the main plot of these type of games begins. Or at least, lets you wander around to the next city and all I think. Guess it's being a real drag grinding on mobs without anything...."
Geo would tilt his head as he looked over doc.

"Did you sell your starter weapon early or something...? Doesn't sound like you're running or trying a monk of some sort..."
Geo would whisper.

"Sweet, a bandit hideout. Definitely think that'll be great to style on 'em a bit and get a few levels out of it. Although... for loot,.... guess they'd probably have money to buy something a bit later."
"Although, any armor is probably better than starter armor, you know?"
He beamed.

"Alright, let's go! Hope the fights going quicker will keep you awake."
He slightly nudged at Doc as they yawned.
Before quickly making pace toward the direction Doc was pointed in.

Doc couldn't help but chuckle under their breath when Geo mentioned their username, and they waved at them dismissively about it.
"Yeah, it's a long story. You got a pretty unique one yourself"

Ultimately Doc was glad they weren't dwelling on the less than usual name. It was something that amongst friends made sense and would be worth it purely for the giggles. Amongst strangers it was practically agonizing to imagine having to explain it. Once he got a proper gauge of the level of this Geo he could see why. No doubt they were itching to get into the game, and mentioning a dungeon was a proverbial carrot dangled over this newbie.

Doc wasn't the most impressed by the skills the spearman had shown but mostly because Doc wasn't exactly aware of the finesse required to do so many of the spins and tricks. They hardly seemed to have the same energy the birdman had but their excitement was contagious enough for Doc to pump their fist in comradery. It wouldn't be too hard to keep a warrior alive, but they could only hope they weren't built to be a full tank or were just too uncoordinated to fight.

Geo mentioned the grinding that Doc had been doing, their face visibly lost any joy it had before, the loathing was etched into the frown the bore.
"You have no idea" they muttered in distain.
"Turns out you can lose stuff if you die. Lost my staff trying to solo this dungeon. Some of the enemies hit hard" they replied as they physically deflated thinking about it before shaking their head and slapping their cheeks to get back into the mood.
"But hey, if I could get as far as I did alone, imagine what I can do now that I'm a few levels higher and have an actual damage dealer" they added with a nervous chuckle.

Seeing that Geo was eager to head out, Doc did their best to keep pace as they made their way out of town to the same valley Doc had been grinding in for a while now.
"So... Can you fly? Being a bird and all"

"Hah, maybe. Geo sounded cool, and van. Well van is from like... old characters I used to use in games? I hardly remember why now. But, hey, makes it easier to make up characters and stuff!"
He laughed. "Guess it could be a little neat in that way."

Geo would wait until they played a bit with the Doctor to figure out the name meaning. He was curious, but wanted to have some fun first. It'd probably come up sooner or layer in conversation, or if they came across another friendly player here or there.

Seeing Doc pump their fist the air, Geo of course would pump his fist up too!
Excited to go out and fight! Given that this was the early game, and with a healer, it felt almost guaranteed to sweep a dungeon or two. Especially if they didn't rush in. Which, Geo hadn't planned too yet. He still needed to unlock a bit more skills beyond his first one for that.

"Ah, it's one of those. Guess need to be ready for a retreat if it gets too hairy. Guess I've seen a couple games where the durability goes down on items and such. Although early game items are usually not worth the repair anyways, can buy 'em cheap.. but we'll need the kills first, ya know?"
He nodded along. "Oh wait! Do you know what those hard hitting enemies looked like? Could probably take one or two, but rather be prepped up to go in for the head-jab!"

"Pffft, that's a good point. Also seeing as you're level ten, you probably have at least 2 or 3 skills by no too! Or uh.. what does this game call magic spells? Uh... think it's Incantations. I know by stuff is called techniques probably to sound all cool and fight-y."

"Fly?"
Geo would jump up into the air and try flapping their arms a couple times....
To no result. He'd just land right back on his feet, but it was just slightly slower than someone else.

"Guess that's a nope. Might have been something like that in the game intro lore stuff. Buuuuut......skipped it to try the gameplay. First VR-MMO for me, you know and that sounded too cool to post-pone."
He added and fast-marched to the valley.
Geo hadn't noticed but with every step, they were moving their spear up and down in a rhythmic steady manner.

Doc listened to the stranger speak about his username. It seemed like the typical explanation for why people use their specific gamer tag. At least, it was far from original. Sounds cool, nostalgia, it was just a good thing that they weren't sneaking their name and age in there. They mulled over just how often the birdman might have used this same username. They nodded as Geo explained the name's origins to not look like they were ignoring them, but Doc couldn't help but yawn again. It was subconscious, even if they didn't have to connect with their body.

"Don't worry, I've learned my lesson. I'm staying right behind you from start to finish." They stated firmly when they mentioned the need to retreat. The more Geo talked about losing starting gear, the more Doc deflated and lost their mojo. Doc had been struggling to get a new weapon, and it was hard work without some coin already available to them. Instead, they had to punch for poultry damage to get to the goal. They were close, but it had been grueling to say the least. They perked up a bit once Geo asked about the enemies.

"They wear baskets on their heads. They're just using clubs, but they're stronger than they look." They replied, holding a finger to their chin as they tried to remember as best as they could. Doc could hardly get a good look at the group that clubbed the poor healer to death efficiently.
"Uh, I think they were pretty squishy, though. I even managed to take one of them down," They added after further thought.
"Come to think of it, they're all pretty soft, not a lot of hit points and basically no armor."

The switch of topic from Doc's defeat to the new abilities they had seemed to cheer up the young shaman. His subtle smile had returned and he turned his attention to the masked figure by him as he talked.
"Oh yeah, I actually got a damaging one at level ten, but it cost a LOT of my mana" They said, enthusiasm in their voice which up until now was lacking. They were quick to catch themself, though:
"or, I think it's just magic points in this game," They corrected, before shrugging. "Force of habit."

"Oh yeah, what sort of techniques do you have, anyway. I haven't seen a spear warrior build yet. Mostly just sword and board," Doc eagerly asked, eyeing the weapon with earnest interest. Perhaps another toon of theirs would mimic this build; it certainly looked fun, but perhaps that was just Geo's energy. Doc's smile brightened once he hefted up into the air and fell back down, testing out a feature that appeared to be lacking.

As they marched on, Doc stopped them once they were a good way from town. A simple cobblestone road, worn and overgrown, had led them this way, where a steady river bisected a sprawling field of overgrown grass and low shrubbery. An equally worn stone bridge crossed the river. Once they were still, movement in the fields and nearby hills was more evident. Beggar bandits, simple men and women, usually wearing peasant clothes, and if they held any weapons, they were clubs, pitchforks, and other simple tools used for less than savory purposes.

Doc traced the river with their finger, slowly leading to its origin, which appeared to be from a cliffside in the massive mountains that surrounded the starting area they were in. he pointed to a massive waterfall that fell from hundreds of meters up before turning to Geo.
"The base is at the foot of that waterfall. I didn't see much, but they have a windmill and some fortifications. Standard bandit base stuff, really." They said before rolling their shoulders and jumping a bit in place, trying to reinvigorate themself.

Geo hadn't really thought about it for a while, but they probably used 'van' or some variation of it dozens of times over the years. He vaguely remembered it was based off one of those fantasy game protagonist from a pretty well known series. He just couldn't place exactly what or who it was at this moment. He'd probably have the thought running through the back of his head for the rest of the trip. Puzzling himself quietly over it, as the memory was somewhere but just out of reach of his current thoughts. It was like the thoughts were vaguely on the cusp of his recollection but dodging him for the time being.

"Mmm, you're fine to give a whack or two. It's early mobs so shouldn't too much of a hassle. Just meant we shouldn't get both of our backs to a wall or somethin'."
He shrugged. "Don't think the mobs will spawn that fast were it might be an issue though. At least... I'm hoping for it anyways. If we even do need to run away and such."

"Baskets on their heads? Goodness not sure if that's going to be cool and funny to see! Always wondered how people are supposed to see out of those things. Are there like... small holes, or is the weaving really that thin, do you think?"
He'd just casually chat along the way.

"Though anything with a club, except maybe a basic gobbo is probably a tougher lad. So definitely can see it. Especially if they have those massive metal ball ones, like a giant studded bat and all."

"Mana, magic points, same dif. No big deal to throw out there. But what's that damaging spell you got? What's it do? Oooo, is it like... summoning a beam of light to shoot at the enemy or something? Or maybe it's something more elemental rather than divine/holy that a cleric would normally use. It's definitely got to have some range on it since you're more of a full caster, right?"
Geo grinned noticing a shift in Doc. "You first~."

He'd give a pause or so for the Doc to go on about their own abilities.
Once Doc was done, or when it seemed like there was a minute or so that passed then Geo would hop in.

"Yeah, makes sense that a lot would go for the tried & true sword and shield, or great sword. Uh, guess since I'm only starting out I don't have more than a starter skill yet. Although, from what I've seen there's a bit of variety you can invest in depending on weapons and so on. Picked a spear, since.. well, I've used a stick in real life for stuff, lol. The system is supposed to help, but haven't touched a sword before so didn't think I'd do so good with one."
"Picked something to help with leveling a bit, you kinda already saw it too! But guess you'll get another view."
He shrugged, with a smug growing grin.

"But one day, these golden wings will fly across the sky in amazement! Heh, take that for a backstory motivation."
Puffing his chest out with slight growing confidence.

Once they came across some of the beggar bandits Geo would immediately move to show off. He'd point toward one of the beggar bandits and let out a whistle toward them. He picked the first one he saw to draw from the crowd, one wielding a club.
Geo would use the
A faint orange glow of aura would radiate off of Geo and his spear as he twirled it about in front of him performing a quick sequence of a figure-8 spin in front of him. Gesturing it as a form of challenge toward the beggar before resting the spear across the back of his shoulders and thrusting his palm forward as if he were a shaolin monk.
The last bit was just showing off.

"Base at the waterfall got it. Heh, lets have some fun before then, grab ya some extra coin for later~."
Geo's eyes were locked on the various enemies versus the river. Not wanting to get struck easily while trying to look cool in front of his party member.

Doc pursed their lips at the suggestion of joining the fray and getting strikes in with their newfound meatsheild. Sure, they probably could and would help, but they couldn't help and looked at their feet at the suggestion. The amount of time and effort it took for them to beat even a single foe showed that their fist were far from lethal weapons. Doc tried not to take it personally, though. Geo was a new player and likely didn't fully understand the plight that Doc had found themself in.

Luckily, Geo's unwavering excitement did a good job of quelling the irritable and pessimistic energy Doc felt building within themself. Seeing it from an outsider's perspective, it was sort of funny. A bunch of basket-wearing fools clubbing a defenseless healer like an angry mob. The image was enough to wipe the frustration from Doc's face just as fast as it had appeared, replacing it instead with a thin smile.
"I'm not too sure, I didn't get a great look at their baskets... what with the pummeling and all," Doc replied with a light chuckle before quickly confirming just what the birdboy would feel upon seeing them.
"But it's definitely goofy."

The way Geo seemed to hype up these strange, basket-weilding foes did make Doc lose their smile, though. The more he expressed imagery of spiked ogre clubs and purely fictional and over-the-top flanges, the more Doc felt silly for being defeated by such an unconventionally dangerous enemy. Sheepishly, they rubbed the back of their neck, debating if they should elaborate. Stronger than they look was an understatement. Their strength was truly baffling.

Their topic quickly switched, though, and Doc let out a sigh of relief once it had. Geo had plenty of ways to keep the conversation going, much to Doc's delight. They had always been a soft-spoken and stoic sort, and it helped to have someone bring the energy to their conversations. It was nice to have someone else interested in their abilities. Beyond just asking 'can you heal?' or dropping jargon an uninitiated player like Doc was incapable of deciphering.
"No no, you were right on the money the first time. Big beam of light. Does tons of damage, but uh, I can do like 2 of them tops. Plenty of range, though, full caster is an understatement," Doc replied quickly, seeming to humble their abilities. Their appearance showed just how true their words were. Simple robes, no armor in sight. No weapon, no muscles either. They looked as wimpy as their damage was.

Geo shocked them when they mentioned using a stick before. Doc's initial thoughts went to a kid waving a fallen tree branch like a sword, defeating swaths of imaginary foes. Quickly, their imagination focused on a more likely explanation to what they meant. Plenty of martial arts used sticks of all varieties: quarterstaffs, tonfa, short sticks, and even the clubs that beat Doc down earlier were essential sticks. The comparison to a spear made the list of sticks easier to hone in on.
"Oh wow, didn't know I had a bonified shaolin monk protecting me. I feel a lot safer now," Doc scoffed to themself, teasing as they walked further towards the waterfall. Most of the wandering enemies seemed to conveniently stay just out of place. Their programming is to never directly intervene with players not ready to fight, a typical low-level area gimmick.
"Really, though, that's super cool. I bet it helps in a VR game like this."

Once a group got too close, Geo managed to call out a straggler from the group. They pulled a hatchet from their belt and rushed at the bird with a shocking amount of tenacity. Even Doc was shocked by how fast this one moved, and for a moment they worried if Geo might ave bit off more than they could chew. Luck appeared to be on his side, though, as his impressive twirls caused the beggar to stop in their tracks. Confusion looked more like a stupor on this foe, as they suddenly changed trajectory and swung their axe into the air, nowhere near Geo. Geo struck a pose as Doc smirked. It was a great ability for a tank, it seemed, but for now, they did not want to waste further precious resources. Once it became clear that this beggar bandit had no chance of finding his target, Doc grabbed the avian by the arm and rushed to pull him away from the foe.

The bandit camp neared on the horizon. The massive waterfall drowned out most noise in the area, a tranquil and static background noise. The spray of water made the area feel significantly cooler than the temperature area around them. The shadow of the massive cliffside covered the area with an eerie gloom, and altogether, the atmosphere was somewhat drab. The area had a few derelict buildings that appeared to have been ramshackle hovels even in their heyday. The crown jewel of the area was the watermill, which moved with enough speed to cause creaking and groaning from the gears. A sound that managed to pierce the droning sound of the crashing water that moved said wheel.

The area was surrounded by a makeshift barrier. In some areas, it was logs that had been sharpened at the end and embedded into the ground. In other areas, it was overturned wagons, refuse piled into mounds or barrels of dirt. Inside the area, various beggar bandits seemed to move about the roughly 5 buildings in the area. There appeared to be six of them moving sacks of grain into the watermill and leaving it with sacks of flour. Not a single basket-wearing bandit in sight.

More pressing was what appeared to be four of these similar bandits that were standing guard at the face of the encampment where the barricade opened. The group had been lounging on the side of the barricade or sitting in the grass. They mingled casually, seemingly unaware of the encroaching doom that was the two players. One of the unarmed ones blew into a blade of grass to make a strange humming noise.

Doc sighed at the sight. Looking at the crowd made them realize that they very well could just be re-enacting their previous failures. Doing so now with another person forced to bear the brunt of their defeat as well. Doc clenched their fist and rolled their neck, struggling to hype themself up for this before turning to Geo.
"Basket guys seem to show up once we get in. Stay close since I need to touch you for my heals, and don't get surrounded." Doc commanded, shockingly stern, before their expression softened and they quickly added an addendum.
"But really it's just a game, let's just go in there and fuck shit up... oh! Pardon my language."

"Yeah, I get that. Kinda hard to focus on the details when you're fighting for your life." Geo would nod along. "There was this one weird boss in "Lost souls the reckoning I believe? It's more of a pirate fantasy rpg type of deal."

"Anyhow, there's these raiders on the second level that can be very annoying if you encounter them. Essentially they're really fast with a dagger. But the annoying part is, if you don't notice they have a hand behind their back, they can catch you off guard with smoke-bomb to block your vision. Then the fight can be really nasty."
Geo semi-ranted. "But the weirdest thing of all about them is. They wear their eye patches upside down, and after the smoke-bomb the eye patch switches sides!"

Geo had been rather talkative and outgoing thus far. He was enjoying the walk and a bit of a playful ramble here and there. Also was just genuinely enjoying someone joining the experience with him. Just genuinely happy to have someone there, being solo in an mmo can be fun but rather lonely. Not to mention fighting decent bosses would be a challenge to downright impossible as a solo player depending.

"What was that movie... uh..."
"Uh, I uh.. yes! I am the Shaolin monk of the eastern turtle temple, and I have come to establish my own new chamber of shaolin training after ascending in the eight fold path."
Geo shifted his voice deeper into a somber tone. Trying to hold back the silly smile slipping across his lips.

"Probably helps as much as those types that get addicted to uh.. BeatSaber probably. I'm confident enough to not whack myself on purpose! Although I have missed a catch one or twice."
Geo would prop up their l33t gamer skills.
Before redoubling their attention toward the enemies.

The martial class would slip back to being ready once the stray mob had been stunned. He had fully planned on farming and kiting them one at a time. Although he was fairly confident that taking a small group of mobs on at a time wouldn't be a problem for him & Doc at all. This was a starting area after all, so it couldn't be that harsh. The whole point was to help new players grow stronger after all!

Right after Geo's initial target had missed their axe swing he'd go in to punishment! Lunging his spear forward to ram the enemy mob through-
Then Doc grabbed his arm and started rushing him away.
Geo might have poked the enemy before being dragged elsewhere.
Honestly the avian was far too surprised to pull away or fully commit to the fight. Not sure why Doc was in a panic, or rushing elsewhere, and even less an attempt to move the fighter elsewhere. Geo more or less was dragged and stumbled along with an awkward mic squawk that wasn't too dissimilar to a bird.

Geo could only look upon the massive waterfall that established the landscape. The sound of it was so wondrous in itself, not to mention the beauty of the world around them. It was a moment to be impressed with the VR software that had been attached. The shift of humidity on the skin, or the fur was something that Geo couldn't quite... understand what the caused but made the area feel alive. His brief alarm was shifted into a relaxed pace walk along with Doc. Although he did, stare at his partner curious of what the plan was here.
It seemed the two were rushing ahead.
Maybe Doc had been coming close to going to bed, or was just eager to clear the area.

Seeing the various overturned carts, it actually pushed up Geo's enthusiasm for loot. If there were enough carts around to help form a wall, there was probably tons of trade goods or at least a good amount of gold (or whatever currency this game used). There was bound to be enough to get a new piece of gear out of it, something, decent versus the normal default drops. Maybe anyways.

He did briefly stare at the grains turning to flour. He hadn't, seen the process of that before. Although he had known that's what a mill was supposed to do. Just never witnessed the process. Only to look back to Doc wondering if they rushed here just to see the mill working.
As the guards didn't look like they were doing anything time oriented specifically. Although the guards were rather relaxed, perhaps even easier to defeat with one of them being unarmed and playing around.

Upon hearing Doc's speech, Geo would slowly squint at them. Especially with just how _tense_ Doc seemed to be about the whole thing. Geo would move the staff end of his spear to softly poke at Doc on the nose.

"Me thinks, you've been putting too much competitiveness on this. Maybe you rushed a bit ahead with your level too, but take a breather man."
Geo shook his head and would whisper. "Unless they've got a ridiculous spawn time. We can poke or drag 'em one at a time, no? Once the guards are down, then the basket guys a bit after."

"Worst that happens, we run into the river get splashed."
Geo chuckled.

For the most part, the references that Geo made were lost on his compatriot. Doc did not react with any recognition to either the game or the movie. However, the Kinnara's over-the-top impression still managed a chuckle out of the otherwise unresponsive healer. More importantly, the shocking speed of those pirate enemies sounded just like these basket-wearing freaks. Their general design sounded much better, though: unique abilities, telegraphed attacks. Perhaps these enemies were only so dangerous for Doc because they had been a lone healer; it only strengthened their resolve that they could win this fight.

Which was all the more reason for Doc to rush into the dungeon. IF they wanted loot and experience, they should look nowhere else. Even a casual player of MMOs would know this was how it worked. The good stuff was locked behind content, not just the mediocre random spawns, especially the ones in the starter location. This game seemed to be lacking in quests and missions, at least so far, but Doc was certain it had to work just like any other game otherwise.

The waterfall was like the perfect, albeit subtle, beacon to new players. The only real landmark in an otherwise underwhelming location. No doubt it was meant to draw players in and give them their first true dungeon encounter. Seeing Geo's reaction to seeing the thing only solidified Doc's opinion. It also made them stop for a moment. On their own, they hadn't basked in it, but here and now, it felt shockingly real. Even the air is filled with a cool mist, enough to lower the temperature.

Once Doc had explained the strategy, they expected some sort of confirmation, maybe a question or a witty remark. It came as a surprise to instead feel a pole prod them in the nose, which Doc instinctively swatted at and grumbled indignantly about.
"Hey! What the-"

Geo's words struck true, however, and Doc couldn't help but sigh in exasperation. This was a game after all. There was no reason to get so calculating and stony about it; this was meant to be a way to relax after all. His plan seemed better too, not just running in but picking them off in small batches. A plan not unfamiliar to the healer.
"Yeah, yeah, you're right," They said with another thin smile.
"Not like we're dealing with murlocs or something"

Doc rubbed their eyes and yawned, something that felt strange to do in a virtual setting, and likely did nothing to rid the tiredness from their real body.
"I guess I'm just trying to really speed through this stuff. I got into this game to play with some friends, but, well, they're like way higher level. So I want to catch up as fast as I can." The words came through their yawn at first, but quickly faded into their normal speech pattern.

"Anyway, do you want the honors?" They stated again, motioning to the otherwise unassuming guards.
"Dibs on the unarmed one," they stated with a smirk.

Geo may have slightly exagerrated the tale but the feeling of taking down certain tricky enemies was the same. It had been a while since they had picked up that particular game, so a majority of it was a memory based off the intense battles and memories to be had. A good chunk of the excitement and experience he was eager to have here. Although, of course wanting to gain a different kind of experience first before rushing into a fight of overwhelming numbers that is.

He was for more concerned on gaining practice with the battle system first & foremost, and growing steadily. Being overwhelmed by enemy numbers versus the challenge of skill from a strong opponent never felt quite as rewarding. That was the mindset among taking down bosses and the ilk in the first place. Although certain bosses did spawn endless mobs, those were never really fan favorites for a reason.

"Murlocs?"
Geo paused. "those... frog things that tend to swarm like crazy in one of those old MMOs? Heard they could get one-shot pretty easy I think, but sounds like a hassle to kite a lot of 'em. Well, I think anyways. Frogs tend to have of eggs so..."

"Well after this area, we could try power-farming somewhere. Go a bit further ahead and try to pick off one stronger enemy off at a time. But... picking up as many quests at once is pretty good too, though harder to track."
Geo shrugged and would offer a tactic for later.

"Eh, once I get one down to half health. Ye can probably start on your dibs~. Don't think they'll take too long. Just don't want to worry about all of 'em."
Geo nodded, and would crouch to get closer to one of the guards.

Geo would go ahead and spin his spear about in the circular motion. This time rotating it behind his back and pointing it from under his left arm toward one of the armed guards. It seemed that was more Geo's movements, than the skill itself. But none the less he had the faint glow of using the skill Flurry to taunt at the opponent.
Wanting to lure them closer and away from the others, though there was always a low chance to inflict confusion. Geo doubted he'd land the status effect this time.

"Yeah, the frogs."

Doc replied, accepting the reductive way Geo described the gargling monsters of old. Doc couldn't blame him; in many ways, the bird man was right. Doc could not find the words to express the dread they still felt hearing the chorus of strange, warbling warcries back in the day. They did flinch at Geo calling the game 'old'. Were they old? The games they played as youths seemed to be. The game was old even when they started, though, perhaps they were just an old soul.

The concept of power did not appeal to Doc, tempting as it was. They had tried biting off a bit more than they could chew and regretted it. Perhaps the wound was still fresh and stung too viciously, but they were humbled and ready to take the straight and narrow and play the game out as the devs had intended now. Power-grinding could be saved for their next toon.

Geo crouched down, and Doc followed similarly. They couldn't see the bird's face behind their mask, but Doc suspected their eyes would flash with a fire the programming of the game could not properly portray. Doc nodded to them, talking tactics, agreeing that Geo could not solo the whole squad.
"I won't let them surround you. I've got your back." Doc sounded far more certain of themself when saying this, the conviction in their voice contrasting the lackluster and tired way they had spoken thus far.

Soon enough, Geo was instigating the fight. They used their ability to once again taunt a target bandit, and while it did not confuse them this time, the bandit grabbed its weapon, which was resting on the side of the barricade, this one holding a shovel, and rushed forward. Doc couldn't help but smile at the use of his ally's abilities, exploiting the game's AI like a pro. Doc pulled up their dukes and stood just a meter behind Geo. Close enough to react and join in the fight, but not enough to disturb the fight or block Geo from swinging their spear properly.

As the bandit neared, their charge turned into slower, more cautious steps. They readied the shovel like a spear, gripped firmly in both hands, held low at the hip with the metallic point leveled with their foe. As they neared range, with Geo the bandit lunged, flinging the shovel head forward with shocking speed toward the avian's abdomen. The initial attack was fast, but the recovery would not be, as the shovel head was heavy and left the foe off balance and exposed as they thrust it forward.

Geo would twitch a grin that he remembered (if vaguely) some old game encounters. That game, WOW if Geo could recommeber corectly had to be a handful of generations back by now. The gaming station was probably only on its second model! How long ago could that have been? Definitely not a century, though with some advacements in computer gaming could feel like it. It wasn't really a game Geo had messed around with in his own young years, but he wasn't an old man either, so a confusing time frame.

The spearman had an excitement to his movements. He was enjoying playing the role itself, and doing his best to act like he was from an old martial arts film. The world suited that archetype after all, an action hero or two trained in 'shaolin arts' in the like. It did spark a rising flame just imagining it. Copying the moves and choreography would be a completely different matter, but he could at least do some basic tricks. Skills would hopefully take care of the rest.

The grin under Geo's mask grew bright hearing Doc's conviction. It was always great to have a good partner in a fight. He'd give a nod, not wanting to get too loud when getting closer to the enemy groups.

Geo did grow a bit worried as the bandit's charged slow down. He wasn't sure if his aggro pull had weakened or for something else messing up. That was when the shovel-strike came at him. The avian reacted in a slight stumble with it, seemed they nearly jumped back as the strike came toward their abdomen. As Geo would push the pole of their spear to the side to redirect the shovel's blow away from him. The avian seemed decent at defending, although jumpy.

"F--!"
Geo almost blurted out a curse.
The counter-attack would be sloppy in comparison. Geo would swipe the tip of his spear toward the bandit's neck at an awkward angle. He waved it like a massive brush or cane trying to spread a swipe of paint across a canvas. It was probably helpful the foe was exposed with their own awkward weapon. Geo hoped his decent stats would carry through enough to cause some damage.

The shovel clambered to the ground, the foe struggling to maintain his grip once Geo pushed it to the side, pushing the bandit's balance further from his center, causing him to stumble more. Doc couldn't help but marvel at the ease with which Geo managed to decimate his foe's attempt. It was a simple thrust, and Geo acted finicky, but Doc vividly remembered struggling against these same attacks. The staff and the spear were not too different as weapons, but Geo wielded his with more skill than the healer could.

Geo's rebuttal was far less impressive, and if their foe were a more dangerous combatant, they would have easily evaded the attack. The bandit seemed to try to avoid the strike, but the broad swipe of the blade knicked him, and in a vital area no less. With his balance off and a heavy-headed shovel currently weighing his movements down, he was simply too unprepared for an attack. Blood trickled from the gash on the side of his neck, deep red and quickly staining into the burlap shirt below. Worse yet, the flow flinched at the damage and yelped in a shockingly life-like manner.

Geo deals 9 damage

Doc did not hesitate; the second his ally made his move, they were rushing in, albeit cautiously. Rather than a frontal assault, Doc hopped to the side opposite where the shovel had landed, darting in. The second Geo began to retract his spear to cover his retreat. An open palm slammed into the bandit's chin, striking with the lower half where the wrist meets the hand. The bandit careened backward before falling, defeated.

you deal 3 damage
each player gained 4 exp!
Each player collects 1 gp!

The victory screen displayed their earnings, a paltry sum from just one foe, further exacerbated by their splitting the loot. Doc hardly felt like he had earned it. The battle would have been a slug fest for him, a back-and-forth as he struggled to gain any sort of opportunities, given the bandit's range. Still, he couldn't help but smile at his ally. If they continued like this, the whole dungeon would be a piece of cake.

The remaining three bandits did not seem to even notice their fallen foe, likely just outside of their pathfinding range. They sat in the dirt or leaned against the barricade, staring into the distance, making very little movement, a reminder of their digitalized minds that contrasted their life-like bodies.

"Want to kite another? Honestly, I think we could take on the whole bunch." Doc said earnestly. Seeing Geo fight had bolstered his confidence just a bit more.

Geo flinched at the sight of the blood. He didn't intermediately recall if this game was meant to have realistic damage to enemies or not. It was one thing to hear about it, and another thing to see it directly in front of him. Especially in the immersive VR setting. Game trailers definitely couldn't compare to being directly there: the yelp of the ruffian just added to the brief shock of the moment.

Geo was probably lucky that Doc stepped in. The warrior had been stunned by the interaction, and may have been caught off guard otherwise. He would stand still for a heartbeat, before stepping back rather than a quick retreat. Geo's mask hid his eyes well enough to cover up his eyes widening from the experience.
Only to be brought right back out of it by the victory screen with the attached rewards.

Geo would quickly try to brush it off.

"See? Nothing too it. We just need to, uh.. careful combine to take them down."
He sighed instead of his normal grin. The spearman now had the concerned expression of the two compared to Doc's smile. "Think if we take down 5 of 'em, we'd at least afford another pair of shoes.. or something."

Geo would look toward the three bandits nearby. The fact that none even glanced at the commotion was a relief. Both in that the game's A.I. or at least these goons was relatively low in perception. Whether it be the in built intent for the system, or that these were beginner level enemies to take down.

"Yeah.."
"Yeah, I can kite another. Just get ready to smack them down for me."
Geo would nod. He would focus on one leaning against the barricade.

The spearman would step a bit closer to one of the bandits toward the barricade before performing his skill.
Widely sweeping the spear through the air passing it from one hand to the other in a circling motion, before adding a basic figure eight flurry. It looked like Geo may have been adding a few extra steps to the process, especially as he'd tauntingly point his spear end toward the intended target.

He'd try a light jab toward the bandit's shoulder should they approach, wanting to get in a bit of early damage.

There was far less of a reaction to the brutal demise of the enemy NPC from Doc. They looked at the falling foe with apathy, and their facial expression hardly changed when loot notice flashed onto the screen before them. They seemed equally unempathetic to the tension in Geos voice when he tried to play it cool. Doc was simply unaware of his concerns, the lack of facial expressions visible to the tired hunter certainly did not help. They had spent hours punching their way through these grunts, hearing them express their pain, bloodying noses and bruising cheeks. If anything Geo’s bloodier method of taking out enemies was mercy.

Doc tried to match the excitement his ally had over their loot but deep down inside he was frustrated. The battle went much quicker and smoother than if he had done it himself, but now they were splitting the exp and loot.
“Yeah, maybe you're right. I might even be able to get a new staff after this dungeon… stave? Whatever” he said with a forced chuckle.

Once more Geo began to swing his spear about, preparing to kite in another one of these peons. This one pulled out a hatchet, much like the random one they had aggroed before they showed up here. Similar to that foe, this one charged with shocking tenacity. Unlike the more cautious spear man’s defensive approach, this one at least at Geo once he got close. He spear came flying at his shoulder, but he tucked himself in and let the blade narrowly nick him, forming a thin gash that began to leak a deep crimson ooze of blood.

Beggar bandit takes 5 damage!

Unfortunately, Geo was now on the defensive. The axeman had closed the gap and cleared the range of the spear. His hatchet was fast and short, and he swung it wildly at Geo. Clearly an untrained fighter relying on recklessness and tenacity.

Doc stepped around them hastily, trying to circle their foe. Without a weapon of his own and without any armor, they weren't much help in a fight like this. Still, if they could get behind the enemy, then they’d be able to strike hard and fast. Geo just needed to hold out until then. Once in position, Doc rushed in and grabbed the nappy hair of the beggar, pulling him away fast, causing them to lose their balance and yelp in pain.

“Get him, quick!” Doc called out.

Geo would take in another deep breath. A part of it to try and focus on the moment of the game. He had been playing the game to more or less relax up to this point, so there hadn't been as much a dire need. That had changed over embarrassiing himself at the sight of an ally's blood. It had been virtual, and without pain, so there hadn't been a need for it overall. Now, he was more focused on making up on that matter.

Once Doc had given the ready, Geo was moving to engage. Doc might hear a faint humming of some cheerful tune under Geo's breath as he'd move in to fight. Geo hadn't verbally responded, but his intent to strike would be made clear. His movements wouldn't be quite as defensive either.

The spearman assumed the unarmed fighter to be weaker, and that would be the one for Doc to finish off. He was pretty sure Doc could at least wittle that one down, while Geo shifted toward the other as part of the plan. The grizzly knife wielder would be the one to really tackle moments later.

"Mmm, a little damage won't kill me. Catch this one."
Geo would huff out with a bit more confidence. The enemy going for a straight foward lunge & attemptng to push his spear out of the way seemed to only boost his confidence. A straightfoward counter that Geo would roll with.

His spear would shift foward as it was being pushed by the unarmed bandit, along with the rest of him. As Geo would side-step with the bandit's lunging momentum to try and pivot around to the bandit's side. Awkwardly, though forcibly sliding his hand up to the spear-head to punch it into the unarmed bandit's ribs. He believed it should give Doc a headstart if the unarmed bandit didn't just drop dead from there from the heavy strike of it.
Although, doing that could have left Geo vulnerable if the target had been armed.

Whether the hit was clean or a miss, the spearman immediately shifted to a Flurry (low chance to confuse) and a side-swipe toward the knife bandishing enemy. Geo, had found a means of 'reseting' the weapon, forcing it back to a balanced position by using an in-game skill. A means to cause aggro and distraction more than to disarm, but if it could get lucky to knock the armed bandit's focus for even a moment, could be precious time being saved.

"You finish that guy, or hold 'em down if they're still kicking. Less damage, and I'll pierce my way through the knife one."
