Nancy had managed to part ways with her bodyguards, and as much as she wanted nothing more than to crawl into her bunk and go to sleep, she was in dire need of food and water. Seizing took a surprising amount of energy and she was absolutely starving as she made her way into the kitchen, hoping to be able to find a snack or two. She’d eat just about anything.
“Hey, Marco - anyway I could grab a quick bite of something?”Marco looked up from the patties he had been forming and nodded.
”Of course. I think there’s some bread, peanut butter, jelly if you want a sandwich, or chips. Or I could try to whip up something real quickly. What are you feeling?” He set down the pad of ground beef and walked over to the sink and washed off his hands, and smiled over at her.
”Also how are you feeling?”“I can make myself a PB&J.” Nancy didn’t want him to go out of his way to make something special for her - she just wanted to make sure that whatever she took, it wasn’t going to ruin his meal prep plans. At the question of how she was feeling, she grimaced slightly.
“Like my brain went through a blender.””You sure? I don’t mind. Besides, I have some time.” Marco finished washing up his hands and went to find the ingredients. He tugged the bread off a shelf, and then found the pb and then the jelly.
”Sorry about your brain. Do you want some water or something to drink? I think there’s instant lemonade mix.”Nancy shrugged.
“It’s fine. I’m pretty used to it at this point… yeah, some water would be great.” She still felt a little awkward about standing there and watching someone make her food, but she was feeling weak from the seizure, so she wasn’t going to protest it too much more. She pulled up a chair and took a seat.
Marco looked at her, and then went to get a glass and filled it with cool water and then slid it over to Nancy.
”Here you go. I’ll get that sandwich out in a jiffy. Do you want the bread toasted or untoasted?” He smiled softly as he pulled out a knife and then a few slices of bread.
”Thanks,” Nancy immediately drained about half of the glass, setting it back down. The relief was quick. The sandpaper feeling of her tongue had gone away and her throat no longer felt like it was shoved full of cotton.
”Um, whichever is easier for you - untoasted is great.””Untoasted then.” Marco smiled and then started applying peanut butter to one slice of the bread, before putting jelly on the other, and then gently put them together, and then put them onto a plate and slid it over.
”Here we go. PB and Jelly, just like well… I use to make it. Or Em’s mom I guess.” He chuckled softly and then went to refill her water glass and then sat down next to her.
”Sorry for asking but… does that happen often?” Marco asked softly, and tilted his head softly.
”Thanks,” Nancy offered him a smile, as she accepted the sandwich. It was hard to go wrong with a PB&J sandwich, but it looked delicious all the same. She took another sip of water, before nodding at his question.
”You can ask, I don’t mind. I have about one seizure a week, sometimes more, sometimes less. It’s been that way since Zeke and I were little… Just kinda how my life is, y’know? Some people have to wear glasses all the time, I just sometimes fall to the ground and convulse uncontrollably.””I see. But it still… can’t be easy. I am sorry. But, I’ll be here all summer, making pb and js if you need them.” Marco knew it wasn’t much of a comfort but he wanted to offer something more than just nothing.
Nancy shook her head. She understood where the apology came from, but it wasn’t needed all the same. If anyone here understood how it felt, it was probably Marco, Zeke, and Demi. It wasn’t something Nancy could change about herself, even if she wanted to. It was just her life.
”I appreciate it,” she took a bite into the sandwich.
”Tastes killer.”Marco chuckled softly and then looked over at Nancy.
”Glad you’re enjoying it. I get the feeling that this will be a staple for us between meals. The big meals are not going to be that appetizing. Especially since I saw instant eggs somewhere.” He shivered at that and then chuckled.
”Don’t worry, this whole week that it is us, I’ll make us some gourmet cooking.””Oh yeah? I’ve got a soft spot for Mac and Cheese with hot dogs,” Nancy laughed.
”But I can try lobster if you’re doing gourmet.” She finished the PB&J and drained the rest of the water.
”Thank you again - I think I am going to go sleep like the dead, though, now. I’ll catch you later?””Yeah, catch you later, and I hope you feel better. And I’ll keep that soft spot in mind.” Marco stood up and picked up the plate and cup.
”Don’t worry about these, I’ll take care of them.”
