i have multiple current 1x1s going in pms, but my group rps i host haven't had any activity recently.

I'd say Between 2 & 4 depending on the expectation of post frequency and length. I've also grown a bit more particular about what RPs I join. Having been, for all intents and purposes, more active the past 2-3 years, I've been tending to guage things like:

1. Has the RP been in its process for an extended timeframe? I've learned that joining something that's been in the planning stages for a few weeks doesn't quite work well for me.
2. Who's in the RP? It's gotten clearer who I work well with both IC and OOC. No sense throwing myself into things where, history shows, I likely won't have a strong social or collaborative niche.
ADDENDUM:
3. If I'm dry on ideas for a character to submit, I stay away; conversely, if I'm really vibing with an idea, I'm likely to extended my cap.

All of this to say: I try to have a hard cap while at least keeping to one RP, but other factors can sway me out of that range. For better or worse. 🤷‍♂️

I try to limit myself to 3 or 4 at once. Maybe 5 if I'm running multiple stories with the same person or group. Being able to play by post makes it easier to take time to organize my thoughts and writing, but it can still overwhelm me if I have too many going at one time.

I use to do crazy amounts, like 8-10. These days, I am lucky if I can keep myself in 2 at a time.

My roleplays are detailed. I'm patient on post responses.
Daily interactions. Consistency makes it all work. Either you can keep up or I make you submit.

In this case I actually have gotten a roleplay partner to submit to me in all things. That goes for real life as well as roleplay.
We say we love each other too. I make things happen. Quickly even. It doesn't have to be complicated.

I happen to be looking for another partner. So I know I can handle one more at least.
Wherever it goes straight into roleplay or wherever I have to address concerns depends on who you ask.

I might be able to handle three. If that's every day interactions.
That would mean about 9-15 posts a day. That can be in addition to using sex toys IRL with people, watching shows together. etc.
I'm a kinky loving dragon. I know how to provide direction. Effort gets appredicated. Resistance punished. Yet never with pushing away. Never ever that. That is always wrong to do.

If I have to deal with brats (and most people are brats) then it really depends. How bratty are people being? Do they lie with intent?
I can argue with someone for a week before they roleplay. I know that at least.
It's never just roleplay. It's always a person.

I make it all work because I don't pretend to be innocent. If I'm getting under your skin then it's intended.

You miss out on good roleplay when you lose sight of the bigger picture. Is what I am saying. Why resist?
It's all about the can do attitude.

The most I've had in the past is something like 14-16. Shiny object syndrome 😛 Nowadays I can barely keep up with a few.

Only one, as GM and as Player. I feel I am always obligated to direct my entire focus on something I have committed to participating in or managing.

Realistically, I think I can handle two RPs at the same time, provided that the second RP strikes my fancy and the expectations are well aligned. Such an opportunity is rare, however, and I'd prefer not to split my bandwidth by joining impulsively.

I'm new here, but not to roleplaying.

In years past I would run anywhere between 2-7 roleplays at once on various sites. But, that was admittedly when I was a much younger man. XD

These days I prefer being in just one roleplay at a time cause, ya know, 9-5 jobs kinda suck most of one's time and energy.

I generally roll the same amount as you. I try not to go over two active RPs at any given time. In some cases, I can stretch myself to join three, but that's very rare. I've come to learn that any more than that is a bit too much for my own plate.

No more than three, and that would be one group RP and two 1x1s. I used to do more a long time ago on other sites, but I've learned a lot about myself since then. I try to only join RPs that I'm very interested in and willing to get invested in, not just out of boredom. That, and I like to spend my free time in a lot of different ways, so if nothing is catching my eye, I'll just find something else to do.

The result lately has been just... joining nothing, but that can be how it goes. I'd rather wait and wait for the right thing to come along than join everything and be too busy when the right RP does come along.

Lately I haven't been doing any RP at all. It has been almost 2 years since I've done any serious Roleplaying. I do eventually want to Roleplay, but the problem for me is staying interested and being constantly dissatisfied with what I find on Discord.

What kind of roleplay partner do you want? A detailed one that makes excuses and is desperate for only roleplay, ignoring your real concerns, or a flawed partner that can actually talk about feelings and flaws more?

One on one roleplays only. "Our world together".
One person alone is challenging enough. First got to talk people into it. I do dragon roleplays.
Two people? Can still manage.
Three people? I think so.
Takes me about 20-30 mins to make a post. I work hard at it too. I'm also patient on post responses.

I'm also getting smoochy with a roleplay partner I know, and that's after arguments. They'll resume roleplay with me at some point. That leaves another person to juggle if I get another partner.

The trick is to have those "making a world together" and "Moving forward" talks. The rest is about providing direction. I make a world. You step into it. Anything goes from there, provided it sticks to theme. Just make it make sense.

Good things take time and effort. The key is to actually MENTION that. Otherwise why would people make the time?

I'm always running at least one group RP as a GM, as I enjoy writing at my own pace and storycrafting for the regulars. However, I sometimes run another one if I feel inspired to try an idea. As for participating, I've found myself to be quite picky about what I want to write for (until recently with an unstable IRL situation not helping), and thus could take years to find an RP I want to join. However, as a result I tend to hyperfixate on the rare RPs I do join. Very rarely have I participated in multiple ones, and I've found it to be difficult to sustain.

I somehow manage to do 8. How? I have absolutely no idea.

I'm in two live session tabletop campaigns, four group rps (one moves very slowly) and four 1x1s, one of which is probably on hiatus. And I would happily jump into more, given the current timeline of posts.

The how for me is having no real life and a mild obsession with rp. ^.^;; I love writing with the folks I write with, I love the stories we make together. I would gladly use most of my free time just responding to posts.
