Hogwarts

If you read this, you have now the chance to join a bunch of mischievous, clueless, 11-year-old 1st-years in their adventure through Hogwarts, the school for Witchcraft and Wizardy, to learn all about magic and to feel not the slightest endangered by the three-headed-dog we let roam free, and the deadly giant human-eating spider in our forests, or even some werewolf teacher that might forgot to take their potion... Ah all of that is old news. I ensure you nothing of that will happen again. Probably.

Now, to see if you are truly worthy of this not-at-all dangerous but yet exciting new chapter in your life, please look for your acceptance letter. If you didn't seem to have received one, here are some useful advices:

 • Search the fireplace for accidentally burnt paper
 • Search on the roof
 • Look at every door that might have been mistaken for the main door
 • Make sure you didn't move to an island with a wooden, old hut on a giant rock in some stormy weather
 • If all that doesn't help: look for a knocked out owl somewhere near your place

On another note, it could also be that you received too many acceptance letters. Such as 2, 3 or 50. In that case we apologize, our mail department is still a little rocky.

Now to the more exciting stuff. The departure from your boring life into your new home, Hogwarts. I am sure you will handle the situation just fine. So yeah I gotta go now, I have things to do. But -- here's your ticket. And don't be late.

The Hogwarts Express departs on 1st September 2016 at exactly 11 o'clock in the morning. Make sure to be on it when that happens.

Oh, and also don't forget to visit the Diagon Alley before that to get all the things you need. I hope you still have your shopping list from Hogwarts! Well, I really gotta run now, buddy. But I'll see you soon! Hopefully.

31 August; Wed.; 01:00 PM

The Diagon Alley was full of people on the cloudly Wednesday afternoon. Many witches and wizards were running through the magical alley trying to get their list of things checked. A group of old witches was standing by the door of a shop named Rosa Lee Teabag and were discussing something about the safety of brooms and travel options that would be a lot safer. Each of them seemed to have a strongly different opinion than the other; and none of them seemed to consider moving inside of the shop to discuss their thoughts there. Wizards and witches had to move around them and grumbled in disapproval.

A group of children around the age of 13 just came out of the store Gambol and Japes Wizarding Joke Shop and under protest of some adults tried to light a couple of strange looking fireworks right there and then. The adults grabbed their joke objects and kept them out of their reach.

Many children and their relatives hurried through the shops and pushed through the crowd to get uniforms, books, quills, cauldrons and all the things the students would need before tomorrow their first day at Hogwarts would start this year.

You might wanna get your list checked too before the train boards tomorrow at 11 AM! And don't waste too much money on sweets and fun stuff, kiddo!

Cal sighed as he walked through Diagon Alley. This was his chance to be free from his parents and his history, and he was assigned not only one, but two butlers to accompany him. "Thank you, but I don't need your help. Your not going to follow me around school all day, carrying my books and taking notes for me in class, are you?" The man on his left looked at him bewildered, "No sure, bu-" "So then you don't need to follow me around now!"

Cal took his trolley of books and placed his potions, crystal phials, telescope, and brass scales next to them. He ripped off the silver snake coiling around an eagle off his shirt. He was done with his family, and his family name, and that pin was the one thing holding him to it. That and the insignias on his suitcases, which were sadly, permanent.

Cal continued to walk until a wonderful aroma filled his nose. With a clinking of glasses the smell was there, but when the sound faded out the smell was gone too. He looked to a man who opened a door into The Three Broomsticks, and the smell accumulated around him once more. Eagerly he pushed open the door to the pub. Sights and sounds welcomed him. People were talking and laughing, drinking, and there was a small band playing in the corner. In one of the tables to goblins were talking to a man, who looked rather nervous. Cal then saw what the wonderful smell was emitting from.

"One butterbeer please." The woman at the counter looked up from the glasses she was cleaning and smiled. "I'll just make five since you'll usually come back for more anyways," She chuckled. The warm silky gold, the creamy foam, all of it was perfect. Cal walked up to the counter and placed some money on the table. "One butterbeer please." Calmwas more than excited to try butterbeer for the first time. His eyes lit up as the glass was given to him. He took a sip felt instantly better. He then wiped off the foam from his upper lip with his sleeve. He sat at the counter, still drinking butterbeer, until he was finally done, thanked the waitress, and walked out the door.

Now the only thing left was for him to grab his clothes and his pet. He figured pet first. As he entered the shop a small bell on the door rang. A small scruffy old man glanced at him through the lenses on his glasses, but really payed no mind. He squeaks and the sounds of tiny footsteps echoed through the shop. Owl or a Cat or a Toad He repeated to himself from the letter. He looked around the shop. Nothing really met his interest until he saw a smaller cage at the back of the store. In it was a rather tiny owl, only four or five inches tall. It was white with brown speckles on it face. "I'll take him," Cal said,'putting a galleon on the counter and pointing towards the small owl. "What? The little guy? He's the runt off the pack. Going to have him... Sent off. In simpler terms, he's not for sale." Cal put three more galleons on the table. "I said, I'll take him." The man hesitated, but he took the money and handed the boy the owl.

Cal walked out of the shop, heading to get his uniform.

Charlyn Avalon

Currently in Diagon Alley, Madam Malkin's Robes

"Charlie, do not pull on my hand like that", a woman with long brown hair and brown eyes scolded her daughter who was pulling on her hand. Charlyn Avalon was annoyed by her mother. The overprotective woman had started to be even more overprotected a few months ago when it hit her that Charlie would soon be going to Hogwarts and therefor be far far away from her protection. Charlyn couldn't be happier for that escape. With 11 years she did not really want to be seen holding her mother's hand, but Mila Avalon had insisted that the girl would not let go in this crowded place that was Diagon Alley.

Charlie had been here before many times. She grew up in the wizarding world and while living near London, the shopping area Diagon Alley has been her family's favorite place to get whatever they needed. Though Charlie knew where to go and where to find the stuff she needed, and though she knew ecaxtly where her mother's "emergency meet up point" was in case they got seperated, the mother would still not let go of her daughter's hand.

"Mom, we're already quiet late. I haven't gotten one single thing yet and tomorrow is the departing towards the school. Would you just please move a little quicker?" But despite her begging Mila Avalon didn't feed up her steps. "If you would have gone here with me days ago I wouldn't be in such a rush now!" Mila had dragged out this moment for as long as possible. She didn't want to let go of her daughter, letting her go to Hogwarts, leaving her in the hands of someone else to take care of her. The last time a kid of hers went to Hogwarts, they died one year later. Though that had nothing to do with the school, she still related the situation to the place.

Charlie's eyes glued to the shop 2nd Hand Brooms; she had always wished to sit on a broomstick. But the only time she was allowed to do so was when she was able to sleep at her brother's place, away from her protective, paranoid mother's eyes. Those moments were rare and therefor Charlyn had not much experiene, but to say the least, she never had trouble staying on the broom.

"Okay, mom, look." She began softly and tried to convince her. "You take the list and get the cauldron and the other equipment that I need. And I go get the uniform. Look it's right there." She pointed towards Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions. "I will only stand in the shop and let someone measure me. It's completely safe. I won't leave the shop, I promise."

Mila Avalon took a while until she finally gave in. Charlyn was overly happy when the mother nodded and let her run off to the clothing shop. She watched her until she disappeared inside the shop, only then she turned and left to quickly get the things her daughter needed.

Charlie grinned widely as she stepped into the shop. A few students were gathering around in the shop, mostly older ones that already knew the process and just needed bigger robes now. Madam Malkin was nowhere to be seen, Charlyn guessed that the lady was in the back of the shop to get a robe from behind there or anything else. She would surely be back in no time.

So Charlie wandered around and looked at the some of the robes that were bright colors like yellow or red or blue. She stepped throug hthe shop and read a tag, Self-repairing robes. "Wow", she whispered.

*ting-a-ling*

The bell over the door of Flourish and Blotts Booksellers jingled as the door swung open to reveal a small child run happily out with a large stack of books stacked in his arms. After him, much slower in pace, came a woman with a sack of coins in one hand, a bundle of robes in the other. The boy raced over to a nearby bench and sat his pile of books down, picking up one called The Standard Book of Spells (Grade 1) and excitedly flipped through it.

"Mom! Mom! Look!" The boy said as his mother caught up with him, "Look at all the spells!"

The woman looked down at him, withdrawn. "Slow down, Fitz. If you told me I would be buying my son spellbooks a week ago, I would have thought you were crazy." She picked up another one of the books labeled The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self Protection "With how dangerous some of these look, it's me who's the crazy one..."

Fitz stuffed his books in his backpack and threw it over his shoulder. There were only a couple places left for them to visit before they were done shopping. They walked to an older building, above the door was painted MAKERS of FINE WANDS SINCE 382 B.C. Fitz excitedly swung open the door and ran in, but stopped awestruck as he saw the shelves and shelves stuffed full of boxes around him. At the counter sat an elderly man, wrinkly face illuminated in the soft light of the lamp on the desk. His mother followed in silently afterword.

"Hey Mr.Olivander? I'm Fitz, I'm looking for a wand." Fitz exclaimed

"Why of course you are!" Olivander said, smiling warmly, "Step on up to the counter, tell me about yourself!"

Fitz watched the man walk around the counter and up a steep set of stairs, "Well my name is Fitz, I'm eleven years old, and my mom and I just figured out all this existed like a week ago. It's crazy!"

Olivander chuckled and pulled a box from the wall, but then put it back, shaking his head. He walked back down the stairs and took a box from another shelf, "Acacia wood, unicorn tail hair core, 10 inches." He handed the wand to Fitz, "Give it a swish, I believe this one will do nicely for you."

Fitz gave the wand a flick, and the pages of the ledger in front of him turned rapidly, eventually settling on a page. "Whoa." Fitz said, amazed.

His mother stared at the ledger with wide eyes, still trying to get accoustomed to magic. Olivander simply smiled and took the wand, placing it in the box and returning it to Fitz. "The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Fitz, and it seems this wand has chosen you! With a core of a unicorn tail hair, I'm sure you have just formed a bond that will not easily be broken."

~~~~~
Fitz strode happily from the shop with his mother in tow, "Just one place left for us," his mother chimed in, "That is, if you want to take a pet along with you."
Fitz turned and smiled widely at his mom, then ran off in the direction of The Magical Menagerie.
Cameron Ramsey Jr.
Currently in Diagon Alley, from Ollivander's to Madame Malkins' Robes
Interacting With: Charlyn [@KathleenCuthald]
Taking another moment to take in the view of Diagon Alley, Cam couldn't help but smile. He was still amazed at the prospect of how such a small population of wizards, hidden among the masses of regular people, were able to fill the street with life. It made him feel as though he was part of some tight knit community of magic users. It's awesome, even just to think about it. He thought back to merely a few months ago, when his definition of magic had been hiding yourself from everyone else, much like his mother did. Well, they were still all hiding from the Muggles, but at least they were hiding... together. Thinking of his mother, Cam was brought out of a sort of daze as he remembered his job. He hadn't been able to convince his mom to let him shop by himself for school supplies, but they had agreed to split the shopping to save time. She gave him a handful of coins, which she said would be just enough for him to buy a wand and some school robes; she told him that she would handle the rest. Personally, he hoped that he would have some money left over. His mom had told him about her favorite types of wizard candies when she went to Hogwarts, and he intended on trying a few.
After deciding that getting a wand would probably take less time than getting the robes, Cam decided to go buy his wand first. His mom had only let him look at and use her wand after he had received his acceptance letter. She had taught him only a few basic spells, but she figured that any advantage he could have over the other students was a good thing. Either way, he would obviously be able to cast magic more efficiently with his own wand, so he headed towards Ollivander's, which he had been told was the wand shop. He entered the shop, taking note of how it appeared generally less busy than the rest of the stores. Then again, I'd imagine the only people who shop here are first year students like me and the occasional klutz who broke their wand. He stepped up to the counter, where the man behind the counter was just finishing completing the purchase of another wand. He briefly wondered how the store's prices were regulated, being one of the only stores where students could buy wands. Still, he stepped up to the shopkeeper, who Cam could only assume was Ollivander himself.
Speaking up to the man, he said, "This is where we buy our wands, right?" His question was returned with a smile and a response. "You are correct, young man! Now I can only assume that you are here to buy a wand yourself?" Cam already didn't like Ollivander much, talking down to him as though he was a simpleton. He responded with a smirk, "Really? I thought that I was making it obvious that I was here to inquire about purchasing airplane tickets to Dubai." However, the sarcasm from his remark seemed to slide right off of Ollivander like butter. "Of course, of course! As much as I'd like to help you, perhaps you should go to school before you go on vacation, and for that, I would most certainly recommend a wand. Now then, tell me a little bit about yourself." Cam decided to lay off of the wandmaker for now; whether or not he liked him, he needed a wand from the man. He gave a little spiel of his life to Ollivander. "Well, my name is Cameron Ramsey Jr., I'm eleven years old, my mother's family is magical, not my dad's, and I have a cat named Ginger." He wasn't sure how this information would make any difference as to which wand he used. Of course, he saw that Ollivander was really only paying partial attention to his speech. I knew he was looking for something else! Maybe he's looking at my physical features, or he's analyzing our conversation to find out who I am. Of course, Ollivander gave no other clues to his methods, instead excusing himself to the back to look through his stock. He brought out one of the many and presented it to Cam. "Ebony, with a dragon heartstring core, 12 inches long. I think this should work just fine, but you should probably test it out." Cam tentatively picked it up from the counter, not sure what would happen. He held it in his right hand and gave it a small shake and watched the tip produce a small light. "That's it?" He couldn't help but feel disappointed with the minor display. Suddenly, he noticed that the wands displayed on shelves also began to light up until eventually, every wand in the store was lit. Did I do all of that? After a few moments, the lights all faded into nothing. It was as if nothing had ever happened. However, Cam could tell that the wandmaker had noticed, and he had a smile on his face. "No matter how many kids come in here, it warms my heart to see their faces when they first use their new wands." Indeed, Cam felt astonished at how he was able to perform magic like that. I never thought that I would be able to do magic in the first place! Giddy with excitement, he paid for his wand and ran out of the store as fast as he could.
With one task crossed off of his list, Cam walked down the street to Madame Malkin's Robes, where his mom had told him to buy his robes. He wondered if he should have gotten his robes first, considering how less exciting it would be compared to buying his wand. Still, there was nothing to do about it, so he entered the store, where he was greeted with row upon row of robes of different colors and styles. He saw a rack of robes that were able to change color based on the wearer's mood. Thinking to the list he had received with his acceptance letter, he wished that the uniform at Hogwarts was somewhat more lenient. He looked around for Madame Malkin, but there was no one behind the counter. Rather than wait around for her to show up, he decided to browse the store. Who knows? Maybe I'll have enough money left over to buy myself a fancy robe. He honestly doubted it, but the thought gave him incentive to look through the store. He saw that for the most part, the store was lacking in kids his age. Either they've all bought their robes already or they're buying candies or something instead. I can't stand procrastinators. However, he did see one girl who looked like she might be in her first year as well; she looked about his age, and held the same amazement in her eyes that he was certain lingered in his own. Cam figured that it couldn't do any harm to talk to her, at least until Madame Malkin came back from wherever she was in the back of the store. He approached a rack adjacent to the one she was browsing, saying, "This is insane, isn't it? All these wizards and all this magic in just one street. It really puts everything into perspective, don't you think so?"
There's no amount of time taken that would be sufficient enough to describe how Talon felt. He had spent so long listening to his aunt's stories and feeling so under utilized because of them. He had felt so hollow in every victory, every good grade, and every complete project.
Now, none of that mattered
He was given something rare in the moment that he and his aunt had stepped into Diagon Alley. He had been proven right that he was meant for something more. As he looked around at the teeming mass of students, parents and passer-bys (all of them witches and wizards); he fought back tears. He was as happy, in that moment, as he could ever remember and this was just the beginning. He grinned ear to ear and grabbed his aunt firmly by her left hand then took off practically sprinting. Miss Misty, his aunt, had an inkling that this would happen. The look on his face had brought a broad smile to hers and, yes, perhaps a tear or two. She had noticed how frustrated the young Vynn had been becoming over the past year or so. It had left her in quite a funk herself. Having known of the world he had belonged to and never being able to out right tell him or show him, it was quite frustrating. At present that all mattered very little to her. It was finally the day she had hoped for him for so long and the only thing tarnishing it was her own ill made decision to wear shoes with even the smallest hint of a heel. keeping up with Talon would be here small miracle for the day.
So many shops were laid out before him that he simply couldn't make up his mind. Sure, there was a list and yeah, he only had so much time but none of those things held any weight on his mind at present. Thankfully, when he had finally made his choice, it had been the wand makers shop he had practically tumbled into. The poor woman he was dragging, a one Miss Aunt Misty, was quite disheveled by this point and might have been cross were she not laughing so hard. The two of them made quite the team. If Ollivander had been off put by their noisy entrance, then he hadn't shown it.
"Welcome, young sir. Looking for your first wand?"
Talon had been eyeing the towering walls of wands and his face had snapped forward to face the man now speaking to him.
"Yes, sir. More then I can say!"
He had barely been able to get the words out he was so excited. Ollivander smiled and began to pass his hand over many different wand boxes.
"So, tell me a little about yours-"
His request had been interrupted by a falling wand box. It had been very near to the top of the stack and fell squarely at Ollivander's feet. This did surprise him but he didn't speak a word when he set the box to rest on the counter in front of Talon. All the boy could do was stare down at it, face alite with an impossibly wide grin. He reached down carefully and lifted the lid off of the slim box. In it laid a wand fashioned of a very bright wood. As Talon reached to it with his right hand it seemed to leap into his hand as he was just about to grab it.
"Did...?"
He shook his head and examined the wand closely, wonder playing clearly across his face. Ollivander let out a soft chuckle and made a flicking motion with his wrist.
"Go ahead, follow my lead and give it a flick."
Talon didn't need to be told twice and it only took once. He made a quick snapping motion with his wrist, like cracking a whip and a single spark jutted out, as it did a single shrill note accompanied it. He was far too impressed with what had just happened to be startled but it had definitely scared his aunt. She had jumped back and covered her head. Ollivander simply made an act of cleaning his ears with his forefinger, obviously decades of doing the job left him immune to such surprises.
"Is that good? Do we match?"
His aunt had filled him in on a few of the workings of the wizarding world and what his first few days would look like. She had told him of wands and their semi-intelligence and that his picking a wan would be different then almost anyone else before him. There was something else to the whole situation though. He couldn't put his finger on it but he could feel a sort of warmth coming from the wand and he felt the same way he would being near a close friend.
"That is good!"
Ollivander was happy to see another child happy and the smile he wore was one you could tell he was all too familiar with.
"That wand hasn't seen a hand in quite sometime and the few instances it did were fruitless."
He took a quick look at the wand and nodded quickly.
"Hornbeam, twelve and a quarter... phoenix feather."
Ollivander smiled again and leaned over the counter a bit.
"Enjoy your first year. Keep your wand well."
All Talon could do was nod, the event that had just taken place was almost too much for his young heart to handle. It was all beginning to sink in and he was starting to truly believe that he was, in fact, a wizard; or could be some day.
They wrapped up their visit to Ollivanders and walked through the front door back out into Diagon alley. His aunt had just put her purse away when she leaned forward and spoke closely to him.
"Let's head to the Robe-ery. While you're fitted I can grab some of these miscellaneous items."
He still hadn't taken his eyes off of the wand box that he was clutching to his chest like a newborn child. All he could do was nod and follow after his aunt as she lead him to get his robes. Once they arrived at Madame Malkins' Robes she had to practically push him inside and she hurried off to collect most, if not all, of the smaller things on his list. He had stood by the door way for what seemed like a long time before realizing where he was. The shock of obtaining something he had only believed to be in the realm of fairy tales for so long had begun to wane, if only partially, and he settled himself into one of the corners of the store while a small group of kids took their turn with the shop keep. IT would seem that he wasn't the only first year in the store at the moment getting a few uniforms.
A small bell chimed as Callum walked through the door to Madame Malkin's. The air was a little musty, and dust collected on Cal's sweatshirt as he walked theough the shop. But even though it was a little dim lit and musty, he had to admit, it had an amazing display of robes. Cal walked over to one with a golden tag on it. It looked like a plain ballack robe, but he read the tag and it said, Handcrafted for Hogwarts Students - Robe's trim changes color based on House. Cal looked to the picture next to him and saw a boy in a plain black robe get sorted into Ravenclaw. The inside hood of the robe and the white trim on the end of the sleeves turned a deep blue. Callum smiled for once. One of these wouldn't be bad for the Sorting Ceremony... He thought.
He saw a few other kids there, obviously first years, and another, a taller boy in a green sweater. He strutted around the room, took a whiff of the air, and left, his shoulder brushing Againts Cal's. Already he knew that boy wouldn't be one to make friends with. Cal walked along the rows of robes until he found another with a gold tag and a picture next to it. It was a silverish robe, that sparkled in the dim lighting the shop had. The tag read, Auror Approved! Protects from Jinxes, Hexes, and most minor Curses. The picture showed someone whipping the side of the robe up to their face, absorbing an oncoming spell.
Cal walked over to the group of other first years who were talking. "This is insane, isn't it? All these wizards and all this magic in just one street. It really puts everything into perspective, don't you think so?"
"Yeah, it does. Even if your from the Wizarding world it is kind of amazing. Sorry for not introducing myself. My name is Callum Elmridge, but you can just call me Cal." He put his hand out to shake the other boy's, hoping no one would notice his last name. Cal's family was popular among the Wizarding world, and by some, including him, disliked.
Charlyn Avalon
Currently in Diagon Alley, Madam Malkin's Robes
Also in the same shop: Cameron (@SomewhatAverage); Talon (@XAnthProper), Callum (@AbysmalDemon)
Charlyn was in thoughts about all those robes she saw here when a boy with brown hair - must be a first class too - approached her and just started talking.
"This is insane, isn't it? All these wizards and all this magic in just one street. It really puts everything into perspective, don't you think so?"
The way the boy talked gave Charlie a weird feeling. Most 11-year-olds do not talk like this. She looked at him for a few seconds, taking in what he had just said, opened her mouth to reply and -
"Yeah, it does. Even if you're from the wizarding world it is kind of amazing. Sorry for not introducing myself. My name is Callum Elmridge, but you can just call me Cal." Another boy with brown hair, longer than the other boy's though, had stepped to them and just rudely had taken upon the question that was meant ot be for her. He extended his hand and just acted like Charlyn didn't exist.
She then caught his name. "Elmridge?", she said, her voice stating that she obviously knew that name. But she decided to leave any other comment unsaid. She didn't need to make enemies before even boarding the Hogwarts Express.
Instead Charlyn decided to extend her hand to Callum Elmridge. Her father, an open hearted former Hufflepuff, had taught her to always approach strangers with an open mind and no prejudices. For Charlyn, only 11 years old, that was a rather hard task. But she decided to try it with Callum. "I'm Charlyn." She left her last name unmentioned, most people in the nearby wizarding world or those who read the daily prophet knew that Jax Avalon had killed his own 12-year-old brother when he was only 17. And Charlie did not like being confronted with that at all. She hasn't even known either of them.
Alexandria Marie Gladwynn
Currently in Diagon Alley, From Ollivander's to Madame Malkins' Robes
Alexandria grinned as she looked around Diagon Alley, She was excited to be here with her older brother Layton and her Dad. Sure, They had split up, Layton taking her around to get her school supplies. It was amazing, She still couldn't believe magic was real, Her mother doesn't like magic. In fact, none of her school will be coming home with her, It would stay her Grandpa Oswald. Just like Layton's school supplies. Their mother didn't want their younger sister Arabella knowing about magic yet, As far as she knew, Layton and her are going to be staying with their aunts in america for the school year. "Come on Riri, stop daydreaming. We gotta go get your wand." Layton said, As he tugged her hand and pulled her into Ollivander's.
Alexandria gasped as she enter the shop after her brother. The shop had many shelves filled with different wands, she smiled at the elderly man behind the counter. "Well, Mr. Gladwynn it's quite nice to see you again." He said as his silver eyes twinkled. "If I remember correctly, your wand is 12" Reed with a single strand of kelpie hair core, Quite sturdy." He said. "Yes Sir, I brought my little sister along to get a wand. She starting Hogwarts this year." Layton said, as he gave Alexandria a soft push forward. She blushed, as she curtsied to the shopkeeper Ollivander. "Hello Sir" She said as she straightened up. "Well Hello child, Hmm. well than let's see which wand picks you dear." He said, as he started pulling wands out of shelves and placing them on the counter for her to try. She picked up a wand and waved, Ollivander suddenly pulled the wand out of her. and handed her another. "Nope, the quite right" They went through, a few more wands before one seemed to warm up in her hand. She smiled, as she waved it and sparks came out like fireworks. "Good good, the wand that chose is quite unusual wood and core. They are used as often as once were for wands." He said as he took the wand and placed back in the case. She smiled as he handed the case to her. "That will be 7 Galleons for a Silver Lime wood with Chimera Blood core 11 1/4" and a Surprisingly Swishy flexibility" Ollivander said. "Here you go Sir" Layton said, as he hand the galleons over for his sister's new wand. "Thank you sir, have a good day." Alexandria said, as Layton guided her out the door, She grabbed his hand as they walked down the street to Madame Malkins' Robes.
"Alright RiRi, I'm going to get us some treats from Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour"
He said as he twirled her once and pushed her toward the doors of Madame Malkins'. "Okay ToTo." She said as she watched her brother walk away and start talking to some girls in front of Florean Fortescues'. She rolled her eyes as he talked with the girls, hopefully he didn't forget her like the time they went to the mall. She opened the door, and walked into the store. She moved toward the counter, where a group of kids seemed to be waiting for service as well. She tucked a strand of red hair behind her ear nervously, She smiled at them. "Hello, are any of going to Hogwarts as well?" She asked.
Liliana and Rosa had already been to Ollivanders and Florish and Blotts and got their personalized wands and the bunch of school books they needed for their first year. Rosa was skipping up and down, excited for Hogwarts while Liliana was tired from all of the walking they had done. Liliana was pulled along by Rosa to the next shop they had to go to, Madame Malkins. Their parents were walking behind them and chatting as Rosa ran ahead, pulling Liliana along with her. While Rosa stood outside in awe over the new additions to the clothing line of wizards and witches, Liliana took in the view inside of the store "This store is so stupid" She rolled her eyes. She hated shopping for clothes unlike her sister who loved it. Rosa came here every Saturday to look at new clothes while she was with her father in the library, reading a good book. Liliana saw a group of kids about her age interacting with each other but didn't really talk to them. She wanted to focus on getting this over with. Rosa walked into the store and bounded up to the kids that were around her age and waved to them. "Hello" She smiled brightly.
Charlie stood at the entrance of Diagon Alley, just outside the Leaky Calderon, not realizing his jaw was literally dropped. The street was bustling with
cloaked men and women, and shops tightly packed into this place that was hidden behind a brick wall. He closed his mouth and swallowed hard, as he carefully stepped into the alley. He felt strangely out of place, as he was dressed in tattered jeans and a old, stained t-shirt. This was normal dress for him and for where he lived, but nobody was even remotely close to this. He felt the coins that he was told were currency jingle in his pockets, given to him as a form of financial aid, as he had not way of paying for supplies himself, and he decided that it was imperative that he get some new clothes as soon as possible. He fumbled for the scrap of paper in his pockets to look for where he should go for new clothes, and to his dismay he saw that there was no shop listed for him to get robes at. He quickly started walking through the street, hoping he'd stumble upon where he was supposed to get clothes. This kind of feeling was foreign to Charlie, as he normally wouldn't care how he looked, but here he felt like a fish out of water, and everything he thought he knew from before was quite evidently wrong.
Unfortunately for the child, he was unable to find Madam Malkin's, though he did manage to find his way to Olivander's by happenstance. He looked upon the aging building, with desquamating golden letters spelling out "Olivander's: Makers of Fine Wands Since 382 B.C". He blinked, not quite able to take in the age of the store in front of him, as it predated the birth of Jesus freaking Christ, a man who inspired the world's most popular religion. He reasoned that he'd have to enter the store eventually, so now may as well be the time to do so, especially since he had no idea where to go from here. He glanced down again at his clothes, and exhaled before entering the shop.
The shop had hardwood floors, and felt ancient on the inside, like he was stepping into a completely different time period. He stepped carefully and quietly to the front desk, and was about to quietly call out for some kind of assistance, only for a very old man with... interesting white hair. Charlie opened his mouth to speak, only for Olivander to start speaking.
"You've come for you first wand, have you?" The old man asked kindly, smiling down at the obviously muggleborn child. He'd seen many children come through in his many years, so he knows one when he sees one.
Charlie looked up at the man, and nodded, and quietly said,"Um, yes sir" Charlie told him, "But I'm not sure what I'm looking for, or even where to start." The boy rubbed the back of his own head.
A smile cracked over Olivander's lips, and he said the phrase he had so many times before, "My boy, you needn't worry, for the wand chooses the wizard." He told him and turned to look at the shelves upon shelves of wands around him, "Why don't you talk a bit about yourself, and give this wand a go?" He asked as he started to pull out a wand and handed it to him.
Charlie was not expecting to be asked anything like that, so he was taken a little off guard as he clumsily took the wand, "My name's Charlie," He said lamely, as he looked down at the floor, and swished his arm around, causing the wand to weakly extrude a few sparks. "And I guess I'm a little thrown off by all this, my families not uh... magical." He said uncomfortably, and looked curiously at the wand.
Olivander shook his head, and quickly took the wand from Charlie, startling him a little bit, "No no..." He said, and took another wand out, examined it closely, and handed it over to him, "There's nothing wrong with that Charles, keep going." The man said to him, "And try your hand at that one while you do." He instructed, and watched him closely.
Charlie blinked, as it wasn't normal for people to take this level of interest in him, "There's not too much to tell, I'm pretty boring." He said, and flicked this wand, and it emitted a loud whining noise, before dying down, causing Charlie to cover his ears in pain, but he continued "This is probably the most interesting this I've ever done." He said with a slanted frown.
Olivander plucked the wand from Charlie's hand and chuckled, "I'm sure that will change soon lad," he said, and figured out which wand was destined for this boy. He grabbed a long box, and handed it to him knowingly, "I believe you'll find this one more to your liking" He smiled.
Charlie took the box, and reached for the wand inside, "I hope so," He said, and jabbed the wand forward, and a torrent of wind blew forward in the direction he pushed, knocking over a more few wands in the process. He marveled at the one in his hand, and Olivander nodded.
"It looks like your wand found you," He said, his face lighting up , "Black Oak, twelve and a quarter inches, unicorn tail hair, and quite bendy." He announced, "That will be seven Galleons my boy," He told him.
Charlie blinked, and turned his head,"Um, what?" He asked, unsure as he reached into the pocket, and produced some coins, "I'm not sure which of these are which," He said uneasily.
The old man nodded expectantly, and took seven gold coins, and explained, "Not to worry. The gold ones are Galleons you see, the silver ones are Sickles, and the tiny bronze ones are Knuts." He patted him on the back, "17 Sickles in a Galleon, and 29 Knuts in a Sickle." He told him.
Charlie gave a slightly confused nod, starting to understand, before shoving the coins back in his pocket, "Thank you," He said, and then hesitated, before asking,"Could you tell me where I can get robes?" He asked hopefully.
Ollivander nodded, "Of course, you'll be looking for Madam Malkin's, it's right down the road, you can't miss it." He told him.
Charlie nodded, "Madam Malkin's right down the road," He muttered, and turned to take his leave. He stepped out onto Diagon Alley, and walked down the street, quickly finding the shop, and entered, ready to get himself some more fitting clothing
Callum Elmridge
Madame Malkin's Robes
Interacting With: @KahleenCuthald@Carla6677@Lady Hestia
"I'm Charlyn." The girl next to him spoke. Callum turned his attention toward her and smiled brightly. He was hoping to make new friends before going to Hogwarts, maybe this would be the place. "Nice to meet you, Charlyn." Cal shook her hand, smiled and then let go. She seemed nice. He tried to ignore it but he had heard her repeat his name under her breath before. In that case, she was especially nice. Not many people, other than those who went to their dinner parties, tried, or wanted to make friends with the Elmridges, or as his parents called it, acquaintances.
Cal looked down at his shoes. It sure was taking the shopkeeper a long time to keep up with her shop. Just then he heard two more bell rings as the door opened. Two girls walked into the store, and they both walked themselves to the back of the room where the group was standing. "Hello, are any of you going to Hogwarts as well?" Cal smiled, it was the first time he had felt truly happy, not counting when he rode a broom. "I'm going to Hogwarts. Is it your first year going as well?"
Then the other girl next to him smiled and said, "Hello." "Hi," Cal said, "My name is Callum Elmridge, but you can just call me Cal." He smiled and extended his hand for her to shake. There were so many people and so much going on, it was almost overwhelming. In a good way!
Daniel yawns as he gets up early in the morning. He doesn't have to think much as he completes his routine. Breakfast comes first as he had slept ten hours straight and his stomach felt as if it was trying to fall out of his body. So he checked the tub he put a cooling spell on to see if there was anything interesting to eat. Assorted cold cut meats, some cherries, mustard.... Bunch of muggle food... He didn't mind it that much as his father had introduced him to it at an early age...
Using the cold cuts, mustard and some 'bread' from the counter on which the tub was also resting-he slapped together the food, for the 'sandwich' and wolfed it down hungrily. Breakfast out of the way, a.k.a. hunger subsided for the moment, he had the presence of mind to check the security spells on his house. There were all intact and not tampered with, as they should be. Good, I hate thieves...
He then decided to say goodbye to his house for the next while... He'd miss it terribly. No dummies to practice his spells on, no more muggle food, no more looking at his art collection. Overall Daniel loved this house more than anywhere else It was unfortunate that he wasn't paid to sit in it.
Throwing on his cloak, stepping out the door, he left not only his home but also his hometown of Verity behind as he disapparated on the spot.
Within a few short moments he had appeared in an alleyway nearby to his real destination. A new student Amelia, Amelia. Great name, can't wait to meet her.
His apparition had sent him to the Town of Colyton, it had a really nice and polite yet quiet vibe to it. This neigborhood in particular had no one out and about that Daniel could see. Straightening out his cloak, checking his pockets to make sure everything was where it should be, (you never knew what could happen during disapparation.), he walked out of the alleyway turned the corner to see a average size house on "Kington Street".
Daniel smiled as he approached the front door and knocked.
Even before Daniel reached the front door, the sound of children runnig around inside the build could be heard from the street. It was probably due to this chaos that it took several minutes before someone answered the door, a woman in her mid-thirties by the looks of it, with short black hair and standard muggle clothes. She gave Daniel an odd look at the sight of his cloak but apparently decided to say nothing of it.
"Good morning Sir. Is there anything I can help you with?" She asked.
He winked at her in a friendly manner. Daniel always tried to make a good first impression no matter who the stranger may be. "Hi, I'm a teacher for Amelia's new school. I was wondering if you could call Amelia for me?"
"Amelia... Amelia's been accepted to a new school? We haven't heard anything about this. Are you sure you have the right Amelia though?" The woman asked, obviously confused.
"It would take much too long to explain. I ask that that you trust me and call Amelia over, its for her education and as we both should know education is very important for kids her age."
"I'm sorry, but we're not going to release a child to a stranger without confirming the situation. If you want to talk to Amelia, you're going to have to talk to the matron first. Otherwise, she's not going to go anywhere."
Daniel took a deep breath, rubbed his hands together to keep his mind away from annoyance. "I presume the matron has not arrived yet. Is she in the house or off for some other business?" He inquired politely.
"She is currently here. Would you like to talk with her?" The muggle inquired back.
"Awesome. Please call her over, and is it possible to have a place where people could sit down and have a cup of tea? I have been standing for awhile now, and its tough on the legs."
"You can come to her. She has an office and you can have some tea there." The woman said with a hint of annoyance in her voice. With that, she turned on her heels and beckoned Daniel to follow. Once she was sure he was, she led him through the house, where kids as young as seven and as old as seventeen ran through, stopping to stare at the strange man as he passed by. The Matron's office was on the ground floor and Daniel had to wait outside for a minute or two before being allowed inside.
Once inside, he would meet another woman, this on in her early fifties with dark red hair, though it was slowly turning grey, and wearing a more formal attire then her assosiate. She looked up as Daniel, who once again got an odd look.
"So... I hear you're looking for an Amelia? Might I ask if our Amelia is the one you're looking for? Do you have this girl's last name?" She asked
Noticing all the kids on his way to the Matron's office, Daniel smiled remembering the times when he was younger and carefree. When he arrived at the office he took a quick look around and nodded it was well kept and tidy, same as he kept his own place at his house. Turning around to a ladies voice, he noticed for the first time the actual Matron. She seemed like a no-nonsense person and Daniel had already spent much, too much, time here. He drew out the paper he was not going to use, and handed the Matron Amelia's acceptance letter with her full name also written on it.
"As you can see its clear as day, the same girl who stays here." Daniel said with a slight smile as he handed her the paper.
The Matron read over the letter and after a few seconds, she looked up at Daniel with a frown.
"School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Is this some sort of scam?" She asked, clearly not amused.
Daniel stopped smiling. He silently without moving his lips and only with a slight flick of his right wrist, cast the spell obliviate. Wiping this poor ladies mind of the event. "You were just about to say, that yes Amelia can go to the school, and you were about to call her here. Everything else is normal this is a normal day." He made sure she heard and let her do her thing.
The Matron's eyes glazed over for a few seconds but once the spell took effect, she folded up the letter and handed it back to Daniel.
"I will be right back. Would you like to talk to Amelia alone or would you rather I be there? If you wish to speak to her alone, then I suggest you follow me." She said.
"I'll talk to Amelia alone, I only ask that you say that I'm here to help her to "The School." He replied as he started to follow The Matron outside the office.
The Matron lead Daniel up to the second floor of the group house and down the hallway to the door at the end. She then pulled out a key and unlocked the door before beckoning Daniel to head inside.
Inside the room, it was rather bare, with little more then a bed, dresser, and a desk. The floor was littered with papers, most of them covered in sketches, and there were very little, if any, personal items in sight. At the desk, Amelia was working on another sketch but stopped when she heard the door open and turned around to see who it was. The young girl was wearing a plain white t-shirt, a pair of old torn jeans, and nothing on her feet at the moment. Her shoulder-length pale blong hair was loose and complimented her fair skin, suggesting that the girl didn't head outside that often. At the sight of Daniel, her pale blue eyes widened in surprise but otherwise her expression remained cautious, as she was weary of this newcomer.
Daniel looked towards the matron, expecting his ice breaking introduction about the school but it didn't come. He waved her away and as she left he looked back towards Amelia. He noticed her rather ripped jeans and frowned for a moment. He smiled as he looked her in the eyes, "Hi, I'm Daniel. I presume you are Amelia?" He asked as he held out his hand for her to shake.
Amelia watched Daniel's movements and her eyes flicked towards his hand as he moved it. When he asked her name, she nodded but made no move to shake his hand, though her gaze did move back to his face, studying it for any signs of hostility.
Daniel's eyes widened slightly in surprise as she refused his handshake. Then he laughed a little, "Well I can't blame you for not shaking my hand. I haven't explained my business here." He nodded as she nodded recognizing that's how she likes to communicate. "I'm from a magical school named Hogwarts. I actually am a teacher there and the whole reason im here talking to you is because you have a place at Hogwarts, a fantastic school." He took the acceptance letter out, "And to show that I'm not making this stuff up. You can have a look for yourself." He handed the letter over to her.
Amelia listened silently, her expression turning skeptical as Daniel explained why he was there. When he held out the letter, she took it and took several minutes to read it before looking back up at Daniel. Her expression, especially the frown on her face, said she was not convinced.
Daniel didn't think that he had have trouble explaining that magic was here. But he had an ace up his leave as he glanced back towards Amelia's unbelieving face. "I'll show you a little magic, completely harmless, nothing to worry about." He explained. Then proceeded to pull out his wand, and spoke the word "Lumos". His wand responded by emitting green light like a torch. He turned towards Amelia smiling.
Amelia watched but still looked skeptical. Watching things light up wasn't that impressive to her. She had seen other children, those with families, carry toys that could do the exact same thing. So Daniel would have to try something a bit harder.
Daniel noticed Amelia's face still had that same expression. "Well, how about this one?"
He pointed his wand at the desk, saying the words," Wingardium Leviosa", the desk hovered a clear two feet or twenty four inches in mid air, obviously nothing holding it up.
Amelia watched Daniel and at first she didn't notice anychange when he spoke the words. Looking around, she spotted the desk backed away from it, a look of awe on her face. She knew he couldn't fake that. No one entered her room but she did leave it from time to time. But to set something like this up? She doubted anyone would. She turned back to Daniel, wondering what would happen next.
Daniel grinned as he noticed that this was definitely the first time Amelia had seen magic, judging by how she reacted. With a final wave of his wand he set the desk back on the ground and redeposited his wand inside the deep pocket of his robes, out of sight from prying eyes.
"Well, Amelia time is running short before the first day of Hogwarts Classes, I assume you are ok with leaving here and learning some magic, meeting new people?" He asked politely not intending to assume anything.
Amelia bit her lower lip nervously, mulling the question over. She could leave the group home and get away from her tormentors. She hated it here. But at the same time, she would be going someplace new, a school, and there were bound to be more people to torment her there. But at the same time, she could learn magic, since it did seem to be real, and possibly make some friends. After thinking it over, she nodded, still not speaking a word.
At Amelia's nod, Daniel replied, "Awesome. So the next thing we have to do, is buy your school stuff, because every student needs their supplies. Without those supplies, well its going to be awfully tough to get through your classes." Daniel explained kindly to Amelia. Then he went on to say, "Diagon Alley is the perfect spot to buy all that stuff, but its not close by and we have to get there. So, if you will follow me, I'll explain how we'll do that as we walk." Daniel finished.
Amelia simply nodded again and got up, grabbing a pad of paper and a pencil from her deck and putting them in her pockets. She then looked at Dan, prepared to follow him.
Daniel, left the room and started walking down the hallway with Amelia following. Before he did anything else, he did the same wrist motion that he had used when he had removed the Matron's memory and used the spell, 'Muffliato', so no one passing by, could hear what was said between Daniel and Amelia.
"Well the method that we will take to go to Diagon alley is "Side-Along Apparition". Daniel continued walking and was already half way towards the front door. He turned to Amelia as he continued, "Its just a big name for two people disappearing from one place to show up at another place and as long as the person who is disappearing is holding hands with any other people who want to go to the same place. It will work." He was about at the front door now, and before he opened it he remembered something, "Oh yeah, for your first time the experience might feel a little funny, but its harmless so dont think too much about it." He explained as he held the door open for Amelia.
Amelia followed slightly behind Daniel, getting a few glances and snickers from the other children who lived with her. She did her best to ignore them and simply kept going. Everything Daniel said naturally flew over her head, as she knew abolutely nothing about magic. So the man might as well have been speaking Japanese or some other foreign language. But she just went with it, giving the man a tiny smile as he held the door open for her, leaving the house and having to shield her eyes from the sun, as it had been a while since she left her room.
After amelia walked through the doorway, Daniel closed the door gently, not trying to attract any attention from the neighbours. He let Amelia know to go to the alleyway around the corner, and after they were both there, he doublechecked to make sure no one was looking their way and then turned back to Amelia. "Ok, this should make sense, Amelia. To go to Diagon Alley, I have to picture that place in my mind and be determined to get there", he looked to see if she was really listening and then continued. "All I need you to do is to hold my arm and make sure to not let go." he put emphasis on those last three words.
Amelia looked at Daniel and listened, nodding before grabbing Daniel's arm, gripping as tightly as she could, which wasn't really much. She knew the emphasis he had up in his last three words told her that letting go was very bad. She didn't want to find out why.
With his left arm the one that Amelia was not gripping, he withdraw his wand from his pocket. Destination, Diagon Alley, Determination yes I Will get there, Deliberation this is no mistake this is deliberate.
He thought to himself, making sure to focus and then Amelia and Daniel spun around in place as they disapparated simultaneously, after a moment or perhaps a few long moments, depending on the individual. Both of them reappeared at the end of a long cobblestoned alley, with shops lining both sides of it, as far as the eye could see.
Daniel turned to Amelia, "How are you feeling, dizzy or funny at all?"
Daniel's answer came in the form of the girl hunching over, looking a little sick. She looked like she might throw up but she held it in and slowly straightened up, looking better but overall not her best.
Daniel patted her on the shoulder, "That's the spirit," he said in his general happy tone. "The first trip is always the hardest." He then looked at the shops lining the alleyway, and then remembered how many things they had to buy. It wasn't just an item or two it was quite a large list. "Well, Amelia we have a lot of stuff to buy here, there is cauldrons, a pet, a set of scales, robes, a wand, the list goes on. So, since its about you, I'd like you to point out something on this list of stuff you need in your first year, and we'll go buy that first." Daniel offered as he passed the list to Amelia for her to view.
Amelia simply glowered up at Daniel, apparently not happy with him warning her after the fact. When he brought up what they had to buy, she lost the angry look for a more concerned one. Pulling out the pad of paper and her pencil, she quickly wrote something before holding it up for Daniel to read.
I don't have any money. How will i buy things?
Daniel smiled as he read Amelia's note, "Normally I don't do this... but, today I will buy your school stuff for you. You don't have to worry about paying me back, think of it as a gift."
Amelia's expression was on of shock for several seconds before her face went slightly red as she smiled. She wasn't used to being given gifts, let alone being treated nicely. She looked back at her list before pointing at the one item she wanted the most. A wand.
Daniel was happy that she appreciated his helping her out with purchasing. Then he followed her finger to what she wanted. "Yeah, a wand is important, and I know just the guy to see for that."
About three doors down the Diagon Alley was a shop named Ollivander's, the outside windows looked well kept as Daniel and Amelia approached. Always trying to be the nice guy again Daniel opened the door for Amelia and a bell chimed letting the shop keeper know he had new customers.
"Oh, I'll be riiiight with you, in one moment." an elderly and experienced voice called over from the far right aisle from the front counter. To any newcomer the first main thing they would notice is all the boxes lining the aisles on many different shelves from near to ground level to the highest shelf-nigh touching the ceiling.
Several minutes later the sound of footsteps neared the counter where Daniel and Amelia were waiting. Then Mr. Ollivander himself appeared, a man who could have been very, very old but only looked old. "Ah, buying a wand for your daughter, hmm?" Mr Ollivander asked Daniel curiously.
"Oh, no, sir. She is a new student at Hogwarts and I'm sure she'll be one of the best."
Mr Ollivander smiled at that and asked Amelia, "Do you know how many wands, I've sold?"
Amelia followed Daniel, keeping close to him so that they wouldn't be seperated by the large crowds that were ever present in Diagon Alley. When they arrived at the store, she continued to stick close to him and watched as Olivander came to the counter. At his question, the girl simply shook her head, having no idea and wondering why it was so important.
Mr Ollivander smiled as Amelia shook her head, the smile smoothing his features. "No, I don't imagine you do at that. I have sold long wands, short wands, thick wands, thin wands, wands made out of common materials and wands made out quite rare objects found around the wizarding world. I have sold wands that have done great deads for our world and some that have done horrible things." He sighed as he spoke the last sentence as if out of deep regret. Giving his head a slight shake he got back to the matter at hand, "But you need a wand and that's easy for me to do."
With that Mr Ollivander turned around walked to the end of the aisle picked up a box, out of the many, many boxes and returned. He opened the box, "10 and a 1/2 inches, made out of oak with a unicorns' horn core. Go ahead, give it a try, just pick it up and move it around a little." Mr. Ollivander held out the box to Amelia.
Amelia listened and looked concerned when Ollivander seemed a little down. She took a step forward but stopped when he began speaking again, staying where she was. When he brought a wand over to her, she hesitantly took it into her hand and swung it once, though nothing happened, causing her to look confused.
"Nope, nope. Not that one." Mr. Ollivander said as he gently took the wand from Amelia and placed it back in its box, and returned said box and picked a different box, very similar to the first but across the aisle from the before.
Mr. Ollivander already back at the counter. "Alright try this one, 9 inches long, thick not made to bend, made out of willow, with a Unicorn's hair as its core. Same thing just swish the wand around." He opened the second box for her.
Amelia grabbed the new wand and gave it a swish but once again nothing happened.
"That is not the one either. Hmm, You are not as easy to match a wand to, as I thought." He returned the wand to the box, closed it, and thought for a few more moments.
All of a sudden he walked, returned the second box, and picked yet another box from the maze of shelving, walking back to the counter, "Let's give this one a go, "8 inches, supple, made out of willow and with a single unicorn hair." He opened this box as well and waited once again for Amelia.
Amelia once again took the wand but this time she felt a warmth pass through her hand when she grabbed it. Curiously, she took the wand and swished it, causing pale green sparks to fly from the tip while Amelia smiled.
"Alright." Mr Ollivander grinned at Amelia, "That is definitely your wand, and if you didn't know it is the wand that chooses the witch or wizard. Not the other way around and this one has definitely chosen you and I wish you all the best with it."
Daniel had been watching the whole thing with a twinkle in his eye, all the nostalgia of when he was just a kid himself purchasing his own wand, it all came rushing back. He shook his head a little to bring his mind back in the moment, "Thank you very much, Mr. Ollivander what does the wand cost?"
Placing the wand back in its box Mr Ollivander promptly said, "1 Galleon and 2 silver sickles." Daniel pulled out his enchanted coin pouch, which sorted his coins for him and produced the exact change. Having finished their business there, Daniel gave the box to Amelia for her to take with her and they left the shop.
"Ok, wand bought and we could buy a pet if you wanted. What do you think Amelia?" He asked her.
Amelia cradled her wand and followed Daniel back out to the street. At his question, she once again pulled out her pad and pencil and began writing on it before showing him her new note.
No good. Not allowed pets at the group home.
Daniel, sighed as he read the new note. He had a ton of freedom at his house, no such rules existed there. It just didn't seem fair that others had to grow up with that strictness. "Well, pets out of the question then... Hmmm, how about some books? You'll need a bunch of them to keep your teachers happy that your prepared and all."
Amelia nodded, apparently happy with this idea. When Daniel began leading the way she would follow like usual, right up until they passed a candy shop, at which point she stopped and looked at the sugary sweets in the window, her giant sweettooth begging her to try some.
Daniel had taken an extra couple steps towards, Flourish and Blotts before he noticed that he lost Amelia. "Ok, what's got you so interested?" He asked curiously, as he walked next to her. "Sweets huh." Daniel said simply.
"Well lets go check the place out then, a couple sweets never hurt anybody." he said as he led the way into the 'sugar shop'.
Amelia looked up when Daniel came back, worried he might yell at her for getting sidetracked. Instead, he indulged her, which both surprised her and made her rather happy. Taking the lead this time, she began looking through the rows of sweets, her eyes filled with wonder as she tried to decide what she wanted. Blood and Acid pops quickly got dismissed from the list. She would browse for several minutes before selecting a few pixie mint cookies as what she wanted.
Daniel eyes widened a little as he watched Amelia move through the store. Well she definitely is enthusiastic about candy, he thought.
Having noticed that she had chosen some cookies that Daniel didn't remember ever having bought himself, he then followed her to the counter.
It was a short affair, the guy asked for 1 sickle which Daniel thought was a bit steep, but not worth complaining about. They left the 'sugar shop' and continued on towards Flourish and Blotts.
Several hours later, seemingly having worn the bottom of his shoes off walking from shop to shop, Daniel at least sighed in contentment. "Ah, it seems like we have gotten everything purchased for your schooling," He said, casually pointing to the trolly or kart with wheels that he bought during the shopping spree. The kart had all of Amelia's school stuff on it, including her uniform, everything except her wand and cookies.
Amelia wasn't paying attention at this point, working on opening up her cookies, which she had avoided eating until they were finished with the shopping. When they were finally open, she happily put on in her mouth while reading the description. When she was finished, she took a breathe a blew out, causing was looked like glitter to come out of her mouth. The sight caused her to laugh... or at least it looked like she did. Despite the obvious act, not a sound escaped her lips.
Daniel turned around in time to see glitter come out of Amelia's mouth. Hmm, ok... I'm not going to bother asking about it... strange though it is.
"Alright Amelia, we should probably bring you back home, even if you are not excited to go back there," he said with an understanding smile on his face. He looked around Diagon Alley for a last time, then said. "Amelia, I'll need you to hold on to my arm again and like last time don't let go." He said as he put his left hand on the kart and his wand and held out his right arm for her.
Amelia nodded, wrapping an arm around Daniel's and getting a good grip on it, prepared for their little trip this time.
Daniel took a moment to gather his focus as he felt Amelia's hand grip his arm and then they spun once again but this time toward Colyton and they ended up reappearing in that same alleyway that Daniel had first appeared much earlier today, to pick Amelia up.
Looking to Amelia, "Feeling a little better this time?" he asked her curiously.
Amelia still felt a little sick after the trip but not as badly as before. She looked up at Daniel and nodded, not nearly as sick as she had been before. She looked down at her wand and cookies before handing them over to Daniel, knowing that if she brought them back to the group home, the other kids were likely to take them from her.
Daniel felt a pang of sympathy for Amelia, as that sickness feeling was not fun to have, but he felt reassured as she nodded. He noticed Amelia offer him her wand and cookies and he raised his eyebrows a little. Then his eyes widened realization dawning. "Oh of course, all those non magical folk won't accept any of this... Sorry I keep forgetting." he said conversationally.
"Well, I'm sure you know your house is just around the corner from this alleyway, so I guess this time as good as any to part ways." Then he smiled as he continued. "Until tomorrow that is, that's when the train will leave from Platform 9 and 3/4 and we have to be on it." he said confidentially, as he was keeping an eye on everybody to make sure nobody was trying to overhear them.
"See you tomorrow, Amelia." Daniel said, as he moved further down the alleyway, where no one besides Amelia could have been watching and disapparated with her wand, cookies and kart back to his house.
Once at his house he opened the door put her stuff just inside the front door as he closed it and locked it. Then he promptly found his comfy armchair and let himself fall into it. That was enough fun for one day.
Amelia watched Daniel leave before heading back to her group home and, once inside, back up to her room. She closed and locked the door behind her before returning to her desk, where she turned a page in her sketch pad to a fresh new one and beginning to work on a new project, a smile on her face.
Charlyn Avalon
Currently in Diagon Alley, Madam Malkin's Robes
Also in the same shop: Cameron (@SomewhatAverage), Talon (@XAnthProper), Callum (@AbysmalDemon), Alexandria (@Lady Hestia), Charles (@Natsu), Liliana & Rosa (@carla6677)
In less than five minutes the shop was full of first year students. Charlyn had trouble keeping up with all the new faces, but she was very happy to see so many students that would be in the same year as her. She looked at all the young wizards and witches and wondered which one of them would be in the same house as her. She grinned widely, all of those people were potential new friends and she hoped dearly to befriend them all!
Charlyn smiled at all of them in an attempt to welcome them in their little improvised group they had just formed.
"Oh dear oh dear!", a loud female voice echoed through the shop. Heads turned to see an elderly woman with glasses, grey hair up in a loose bun and a dark purple, nicely fitting robe hurry up behind the counter to approach her new costumers. "There you go away for a few single minutes and you come back to leaving your poort costumers waiting. Oh no no, this is not what Madam Malkin does. I apologize, my dear children." Over her shoulder hung a measuring tape and with a flick of her finger it came to live, wriggling a bit and straightening up as if waking up from a deep slumber, and then it flew directly at Charlyn and pulled up her hand with it's end, starting to measure her arms, her upper body, her legs; the measure tape was constantly in movement.
"Whoa", Charlie spoke out when it measure the size of her head a bit too roughly.
Madam Malkin was looking at all the other first year's in the small group. "Oh lord, I cannot keep you waiting. Hold on, my deary friends, hold on." And with that she waved her hand over the a basket full of other measure tapes that came alive and gathered around the children, starting to measure them out.
It was a funny mess. Two measure tapes were constantly fighting over which of them would measure Callum's left arm the best and pushed his arm back and forth, pushing each other to the side. Another measure tape tried to take off Rosa's shoe to measure each of her toes, before Madam Malkin gave it a stern look and it stopped bugging her feet. Yet another tape was measureing Cameron's waist for the third time because every other space of his body was already taken care of by other measure tapes. It was a silly picture.
"You all are looking for the Hogwarts uniform package? Three black robes and a hat for day wear?", the old lady asked them.
"Uhh, yes." Charlyn nodded. She was too busy trying to look at all of the actively working measuring tapes at once.
Cameron Ramsey Jr.
Currently in Diagon Alley, Madame Malkins' Robes
Also in the same shop:[@KathleenCuthald]@AbysmalDemon@Natsu@carla6677[@LadyHestia]@XanthProper
Cameron looked to the girl browsing the robes for an answer to his question when another voice joined the conversation. "Yeah, it does. Even if you're from the wizarding world, it is kind of amazing. My name is Callum Embridge, but you can just call me Cal." The young man extended his hand to Cameron, which he quickly took and shook. "I'm Cameron Ramsey Jr., but most people call me Cam." The girl also responded, telling the two that her name was Charlyn.
Cam was about to congratulate himself for meeting these two until suddenly, it was as if the entire store exploded into action. Student after student poured through the door and began conversing. Two people he could handle; this many was beginning to get uncomfortable. Don't say that! Everyone here is just as nervous as you are. Still, the thought did nothing to reassure him, so instead he slunk to the back of the group, hoping no one would notice. He was simply trying to keep track of all of the names being thrown around. In a way, he knew that there was no way that he would remember everyone's names.
Luckily, no one had seemed to notice, and Madame Malkin arriving brought with her a brilliant distraction. Catching up on an obvious buildup, she began measuring students with a flock of enchanted measuring tapes, temporarily silencing all of the students. She asked them if they needed the typical three robes and a hat, to which Charlyn agreed. He reminded the shopkeeper, even if just to say something, "Oh, and we also need gloves and a winter coat." Afterwards, he faded into silence, observing the measuring tape quickly taking his measurements.
Callum Elmridge
Madam Malkin's Robes
Interacting With: @EveryoneInTheShop and Crazy Measuring Tapes
If the shop wasn't already in chaos it only got worse when Madame Malkin returned and sent her measuring tapes all over the store. When she asked if they were getting the Hogwarts set with three robes and a hat he was about to speak up when a measuring tape covered his mouth. Cameron had already said what Cal was going to say, but he grabbed the measuring tape with his right hand, since his left was still being fought over by to measuring tapes. "And I'll take one of robes that change color depending on your house," he managed to say before the measuring tape covered his mouth once more. The store was a mess; measuring tapes had knocked over robes on hangars, people had fallen over, and papers on Madame Malkin's front desk had been ripped to shreds. Cal could only imagine what this looked like from the outside of the shop. Callum peeked over the measuring tape that was now almost covering his eyes to make sure his trolley was still where he left it, and went back to struggling to keep breathing.
His left arm was still being pulled back and forth by the two measuring tapes. Clumsily he fumbled for his wand in his pocket with his right hand. He jabeed it's tip at one of the measuring tapes and it flew off his arm with a small shower of sparks. He then noticed that there were three trying to measure his legs, all of them slowe coiling around his legs, wrapping them up. He did the same thing he did to the one on his left arm, and watched as two measuring tapes flew off his legs as well. As long as they didn't come back he would be fine.
Cal glanced over at the others who were having trouble with their measuring tapes as well, and gave a small chuckle. It really was a funny sight to behold. All these people seemed to be really kind and he hoped that some of them would be in the same house as him throughout. Cal smiled more brightly and laughed some more as everyone got wrapped up by the measuring tapes.
Charles Clocca
Interacting with @AbysmalDemon
Charles had just entered the shop when he was assaulted by a swarm Measuring tapes of all things. He blinked as he quickly found himself enveloped in bright yellow tape, wrapping around his forehead and the majority of his body. He glanced around and spotted a brown haired boy that managed to free himself of the flying tailoring tools, and he waved at him, seeing the boy clearly had some knowledge of magic, and could perhaps help Charlie. He nudged himself toward the boy, only for him to stumble and nearly fall as he found that the measuring tapes had practically tied him to a nearby rack. This caused a few cloaks to flutter to the ground, and led Charlie to decide that he may be better off standing where he was. He nodded over at who he assumed was Madam Malkin, and said, "Uh, I think so?" He said uncertainly, before shifting his attention back to Callum.
Charles waved over to the boy, trying to attract the attention of the boy from the distance he was at, "Hey, I don't suppose y-" He started to say, only for a piece of measuring tape to lodge itself into his own mouth, apparently becoming quite interested in it's potential measurements. He snorted, and laughed a bit at the ridiculousness of the situation that had arisen. He rolled his eyes, and reached his hand up to the tape, and wrestled with it, eventually causing it to fly off begrudgingly. Coughing a bit, he continued, "I don't suppose you could give me a hand?" He asked hopefully, giving him a grin and adding on,"Name's Charlie by the way." He thought that this could be a chance for him to make his first new friend, and he really wanted it to work out.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Ethan stood silently within Flourish and Blotts on that fine August day with a book in his hands, to anyone passing by he was merely just flipping through the pages as if to find a certain page, but in reality he was in fact reading the book two pages every couple of seconds or though. Life in Diagon alley was normal for this time of year, already the excited first years were jammed into Diagon Alley along with the rest of the Hogwarts student body who had not been smart enough to shop early. Ethan loved this time of the year, not just because he would be one of the first teachers to the new first years but also because he enjoyed the thought of new minds to teach, to wonder, to help take their first steps on the road of a witch or wizard. Much of his life had been spent in dark corridors with a wand out ready to block the killing curse, turning unprotected corners where an ambush could happen at any moment, and seeing the carnage evil wizards and witches could cause. So naturally seeing the smiling and wide eye faces of new students, especially the muggle born students just made his day. Although his carousel of the newest best sellers in the bookstore was also equally as exiting to him as well.
"No reading unless you intend to buy the book Professor Graves, how am I suppose to make profit if you merely read the book in its entirety and then place it back?"
Ethan smiled as he flipped the book closed with his hand and turned to face the Manager of Flourish and Blotts a well in the years old man who had been taking care of the store sense he was a young man. The older gentleman who was simply know as The Manager was standing with his hands crossed on his chest and his foot tapping impatiently.
"Is there a new store policy where you are unable to look at the books that you may or may not purchase? If so how can I deduce is this piece of work is worth buying if I can not carouse its many pages?"
Ethan smiled as the old manage pulled out his wand and swished it, the book floated into the air and opened itself in front of Ethans eyes at face level. The pages quickly swished from begging to end then made its way back to the shelf where it replaced itself and became still.
"A year ago that troll wash may have persuaded me but unfortunately for you Professor Graves your big secret in which you kept from me for so many years has been revealed.
Ethan crossed his arms and feigned shock as she spoke in lightly accented but deep tones voice:
"Secret? An what secret may I be hiding from you that you don't know of me already?"
"Oh nothing big in terms of secrets... but the fact that you can read an entire book in mere minutes! All these years I thought you were merely carousing books and then not finding them interesting, when the whole time you were reading them from front to back then dipping my profits!"
The old man swished his wand as a small hand broom came out from under the table and started swatting Ethan, Ethan laughed as he tried to kick the housing appliance away. Putting his foot up he caught the hand broom and pinned it to the floor, pulling out his own wand he swished it lifting his foot, the hand broom came to attention as it slowly started to sweep the floor in the opposite direction. Both Ethan and the old man laughed at each other before the older gentleman slowly walked back to his chair behind the desk, Ethan followed sitting down with him oblivious to the several onlookers in the store who had watched the spectacle with hidden smiles.
"How have you been doing Professor Graves it has been sometime since I last saw you. You can't do that to and old man we start to feel rather lonely and unappreciated. Lets face it when you first walked through my door all those years ago, that cheeky grin and that air of superiority around you, I never would have imagined that I would feel lonely without you visiting but here we are"
"That is true I never would have imagined as a teenager that I would continue to frequent a store with such a crotchety old grouchy man running it. But who knows perhaps I just liked to read all your books and watch you think I wasn't doing it."
Ethan smiled again and chuckled slightly as the old man swished his wand and two tea cups hit the rickety desk, a pot lifted in the air and poured steaming tea into the cups. Picking his own up the old man made a sour face and made a toast:
"Heres to you burning your rotten tongue on this tea and thus losing your ability to talk for the next year."
Ethan smiled again and gave a fake sneer as he raised his own cup and clinked the old mans making his own toast:
"An heres to all the free books I have taken from your store over the years without paying a cent, may you forever remember the money you could have had."
Both men sipped the tea as the hot liquid burned the roofs of their mouths like it always seemed to do, setting the cups down Ethan spoke answering the question from before.
"I would have came sooner but I took a small trip out of country, I had some loose ends to tie up back home and it ended up taking longer then I figured it would. Honestly I would have rather passed on the whole thing, but Gregor kept contacting me from the Ministry telling me it had to be done this summer. The last thing I felt like doing was going back to that place but you know how the Ministry is with their business."
"You don't gotta tell me twice, iv been alive a long long time and used to once upon a time work for the Ministry. They always were a bunch of tight lipped prudes, especially back in the day of he-who-must-not-be-named and after when the Ministry was cleaning up the mess that had been caused by it. Speaking of the Ministry we received the latest batch of your newest book, its been very popular I have not the chance to read it yet though."
Ethan stretched his legs out and leaned back in the chair rubbing his upper thigh slowly soothing the small pain he had in it.
"Well I suppose people do love adventures even though that book is not a fictitious story but an actual account of various run ins with dark witches and wizards. I heard that even the muggle books stores got a non magical version, they seem to think it is a best seller, never realizing that the entire thing is a true story."
The old man snorted loudly as he shook his head at the words about muggles not ever believing the story could be true.
"Muggles please, they wouldn't believe something even if you levitated a fish and slapped them with it. I have never once understood how Muggles could have such an aversion to magic being a real thing. I mean we could totally join our two worlds together and quit with this nonsense of two societies. Thats how The Dark Lord came to be in the first place, his hatred for muggle borns. But lets not poke that troll... are you finally going to make your books part of the curriculum at Hogwarts? I truly think those kids could learn a lot from your life and it could prepare them for whats out there."
Ethan took another sip of the tea as he shook his head, honestly the time era in which was the Dark Lord was a sad era and one too boot that took many years for everyone to get over. Ethan had only been coming into his own when Hogwarts was attacked and the Dark Lord meant his end. But he had grown up hearing the stories and seeing the torment caused by what was going on around him.
"Well honestly no my books won't be part of the sellers list now or in the future for school learning. They were never intended for school students, too dark for that. I wrote them mostly for those who chose to become Aurors, I truly want all future Aurors to realize that being part of the wizard protection force is a dangerous and often times downright nightmarish job. At a school level I would never want the students to read those pages and have nightmares of what awaits them out there in the real wizarding world.. Besides I also never want to fall in love with myself like that fraud Gilderoy Lockheart, the perfect example of someone who used his position as a teacher to sell third grade toilet paper. Hell I hear that he is still levitating his pants off his body and not realizing how he is doing it."
The old man snorted on his tea as it shot out of his nose, quickly reaching up he wiped his nose and mouth and gave Ethan a slap across the shoulder for making him snort his tea.
"Dang you Graves, all over my table!! I remember the summer I had to be there for the book signing, nothing but a bunch of swooning woman idolizing a self absorbed trolley wag. After keeping woman from trying to grab him all day that bridge troll had the gull to offer me a signed copy of his works. If I would have known he was gonna be at St.Mungos the rest of his life trying to figure out why his pants keep walking away without him I would have taken the copies if for nothing else but to throw at him."
Ethan laughed out loud as the old man did as well, it truly was nice to be back in London and to also be back on the verge of a new school year. It almost erased the summer that Ethan had to endure and he was just fine with that.
Talon Vynn
Madam Malkin's Robes
Interacting with: Anyone that can spare a moment!
By the time he had been able to pry his eyes from his wand box, it was too late. Right as he looked up a pair of tape measures had decided to work as a duo against his torso. They wrapped around him in unison, tying the box to his chest and catching him off guard. He stepped back in shock and tripped over a clothing rack he hadn't been ready to navigate. He tripped and fell awkwardly to his side but the quick pain was no match for the sheer wonder he felt watching the inanimate objects begin to function on their own while flying through the air. He couldn't help it, he giggled a bit and did his best not to snort. He was just too happy to be apart of a world with such wonders. He couldn't help but see it all as the wonderful magic it was, to him even the most mundane of magic would fascinate him... for now. He struggled half-heartedly against the tapes when he noticed a third inching its way towards his feet. IF it had the chance to wrap around both of his ankles he would be stuck on the floor until someone came to help him. It wasn't too terrible of a prospect, honestly. All he cared about was his wand at the moment but, he really didn't want to disappoint his aunt by not getting the clothing she had sent him in for. Plus, they were working on something of a schedule.
"H-hey...What should we-"
He was shouting a question in the general vicinity of the other kids under the assault of the tapes when a boy began fighting them back with his wand. It was all Talon needed to have a reason to try and use his own. He didn't know if a noisy spark would help in this situation but maybe it could at least free him so he could try to help the others.
If this is how the wizard world is... then I'm in!
He wriggled against the tapes as much as he could, it wasn't a half bad showing. He was used to using a little force when necessary, many of his sports required it. He was able to pull the box down and out of the grip of the slender menaces. He then worked the lid off and he the wand in his right hand. Holding it again reminded him of why he had to put it back in the box in the first place. IT felt like another finger, like it was always supposed to be there. Was there a time when he didn't own a wand? He tried flicking the wand around like he had bene shown at Ollivander's but all he had managed to do in three flicks was knock over another clothing rack, untie his right shoe and gently brush the tape closest to his right side. He decided that he was better off trying to get another kid to help him. Obviously he had allot to learn and, if being a wizard was anything like the stories he heard back in the normal world then he wasn't sure he wouldn't cause some serious damage. He sat up as well as he could without arms and looked into the teeming fray of children.
"Hey, uh... Can anyone spare a moment to help?"
His voice was raised but he wasn't yelling. It looked like most of them had their hands full anyways but he figured if one of them could help he could at least start working with them to free the others. All that mattered was he had his wand in hand, he had never felt more at home.
