"You poor thing then, good thing you decided to come out for some fresh air. Or I could always help you rehearse them, if that would make it less dull? And yes, the screen surely will wait for you. I'm surprised aren't filming one right here?" Haakon began cutting into his food, trying to discerne what it actually was from the look and smell of it. He concluded it was not pork, and that was as far as he got before Josephine continued.

"Oh? What kind of new machines and techiques are they introducing to the silver screen now then? Sound? Are you sure it will be a hit though?" Haakon said to her, taking another sip of his coffee. He had only seen one film with sound added to it, but he was far from impressed by it; the sound was not synchronized to the picture, and far from loud enough. "You have strange dreams too, kjære? Then we are two; I guess the change of landscape likes to fiddle with our minds. Good thing they're just dreams, and besides what harm could a simple ring forebode?"

Haakon chuckled at that last remark, taking another sip of coffee and looking at Josephine, smiling. Nah, dreams of rings were of little concern to him; he thought more about what he could write about Josephine.

Nora Kingston

Location: Al Fishawi' over in Khan El-Kalili Bazar over in El Ataba El Khadra in E10 ---> Bank of the Nile River (C10)

Nora sipped at her tea, enjoying the warmth of it as it tickled her throat. She let out a content sigh, closing her eyes as memories of that all too repeating dream came back to her. She had brushed it off as being some remnant of her childhood illness, an indication of the stress of her work. There couldn't have been any merit to it, yet she couldn't discuss it with Dr. Kingston. He would prescribe a treatment of bedrest, on accounts of developing female hysteria. Nora didn't intend to spend the rest of her life tied to a bed. The chains of society were restrictions enough.

"Thank you," Nora murmured, by the time she had her food. She ate at it delicately, enjoying the symphony of tastes. By the time she finished the food and tea, she couldn't deny that there was not much of interest in the establishment. Perhaps a walk, a chance to get some air, could do her some good. Paying for her food, Nora rose from her seat, and pulled her clothing around herself a little more. She ducked out of the establishment and settled in for a walk, not stopping until the Nile river was at her side.

Lighting a cigarette, Nora took a heavy drag, blowing the smoke out in front of her. She knew that it perhaps wasn't the safest place for her to be, but she couldn't be bothered to do much about it. Perhaps a little scare would do her go, at least in terms of finding something meaningful in life. Had she known someone, she would've invested in a decent swing dancing partner, to allow herself to feel something akin to life.

The night has begun as the last rays of light from the sun leave the sky and the air is cooling quickly from the sweltering heat of the day. People are out and about but not the same ones that were out during the day, this was a different sort of crowd. There are locals and there are tourists of course but there is also a different type of people wandering the street now and a bell is tolled from the Prisons Department signaling that someone has escaped from the complex.

@Morose - Things are calm for you at the banks of the Nile but as you look towards the waters you see the same object in the water that has been plaguing your dreams and your finger feels like it is burning once again.

@FantasyChic @ONL - The place is full and the crowd is dense, it is getting harder and harder to hear each other as you speak because of the noise of people speaking and the music being played.

"You are no archeologist. You are a treasure hunter at best, a thief at the worst. Tell me Mr. Drake, what did you steal while you were desecrating a three thousand year old tomb?" Vera snapped before rolling her eyes as she crossed her arms over her chest. Looking at her uncle she stepped over to him as he went to draw something and picked up her reading glasses from around her neck. Taking the paper she examined the drawing and perked a brow as William said he had dreamt of the same thing.

"Curious," she said as she took the paper and wandered about her office before grabbing a book from mid stack along the wall and opened it, checking it and then walking back over to the two men. "This is an Udjtat, otherwise known as the Eye of Horus. Yet that is what most would think it is but they would be wrong," she said as she closed the book.

"These indentations set it apart from Horus, it is different. I know this symbol. It is that is Bastet," she said as she tucked the paper into her waist and went over to a ladder that was resting against a tall book shelf and climbed it. "Does your finger burn when you dream Uncle?" she asked of Reginald as she reached the top of the ladder and started pulling out various boosk and flipping through them before shoving them back into place. She was going to say more when suddenly the ladder leaned back and was standing up right as she screamed out, trying to keep her balance at the top of the thing as it rocked back and forth threatening to pill her out onto the ground ten feet below.

Aziza looked over towards Harry and smiled warmly to him as she reached out and rested her hand over his; her fingers curling over his and under his palm gently. "There is no thank you needed, I am glad to be there for a friend if he needs me," she said in a kind voice as her finger tips daintily caressed his palm as she gazed towards him. A soft blush coming to her cheeks before she turned her head away as Lauren spoke and she smiled towards her friend.

"Of course, I would love for you to come with me. You are always the most welcome company. I have been having the oddest dreams as of late and I am hoping someone there can help me figure out what I am dreaming of. It has been days since I was able to get any real rest," she explained to Lauren though her fingers remained curled around Harry's hand. Turning her attention back to him she slowly pulled her hand away as she realized what she was still doing and forced a shy smile towards him.

Clearing her throat a bit she continued. "Would you like to come with us tomorrow? That is if it wouldn't disturb your writing. I wouldn't want to put you out," she said as she rested her hands back into her lap and adjusted the layers of her skirt. She knew she would have to excuse herself in a moment to go do her next act but it seemed that the universe had other plans as an object came flying out of the crowd in the bar and cracked Aziza on the side of her scalp, causing her to spill out of her seat and crash to the floor.

"Manbudh!" a voice yelled out of the crowd as she slowly looked up only to see a man being roughly escorted by the clubs muscle out of the establishment. Aziza looked around, a frightful look in her eyes as the blood trickled down from her hair line and rolled down her cheek until it fell in droplets from her jawline and onto the floor.

Lauren leaned back slightly as she looked around the bar for a moment as Aziza spoke to Harry, she would steal a quick look here and there between the two of them. Remembering working at her own bar back at home, to her it looked like they were getting closer and smiled at the two of them. Then when Aziza addressed her Lauren turned her attention back towards her friend and leaned forward once more, she bit her lip for a moment at the mentioning of a dream it sounded way to coincidental that Aziza was having dreams as well. "I uh have been having weird dreams as well, since I've came here." Lauren shook her head for a moment and ran a hand through her hair. "Actually just forget what I just said." Lauren said.

Then she heard someone yell in some language she didn't understand, she assumed it wasn't anything ladylike to say to a woman Lauren saw something fly past her face hitting Aziza across the head. Lauren quickly got a clean rag and wrung it out of access water, she would climb over the bar seeing the blood sliding down Aziza's face she pressed the damp cloth again Aziza's forehead. "C'mon lets get you in the back and cleaned up." Lauren offered still holding the cloth against Aziza's forehead, she looked over her shoulder as the attacker was quickly escorted out of the club. "Fucking aiteann." Lauren muttered to herself.

Reginald Keystone

Location: Egyptian Museum

"Archaeologist, you say?" began Reginald, raising an eyebrow yet again at the American stranger, "A multitude of persons, coming in many shapes and varying degrees of reputability have flocked to Cairo over the past couple of years claiming to be archaeologists, what with that Tut business."

"It is to be expected, of course. One pulls a gold-plated coffin from the sands of what was essentially a stop along a trade route to the African Colonies, people bloody notice. Didn't matter if you penned your credentials at the local library, if one had paperwork and financing, they were given opportunity to poke around things of nationally historical significance."
The Lord Major sighed. "They likely could have gotten similar access with less running about if they claimed membership in the Fourth Estate, you see, rather than dragging down a scholarly endeavor."

The Lord Major shook his head. If there was any good that came of the constant expeditions to Egypt, it was that it led to Vera's presence, and so close to his barracks. It was very good having a friend, particularly one from the motherland, so close by. The fact that her superior education was invaluable on occasions was mere gravy on top of their relationship, as he suspected she felt about his own position of influence. Still, they could perform valuable tasks for each other, friendship aside. Such as her appraisal of his drawing of the Eye from his recurring dream.

He listened to Vera's opinion, responding, "Bastet? I'm not versed on the subject, but isn't that the cat lady? I..." Reginald stopped short at her next question. "Why, um... Yes, my Lady. Kept burning after I woke from my nap, some half hour ago. There was some drama with a camel spider that demanded my attention, but the discomfort was still present. I took it for the anatomical indulgences of my advancing age."

The Lord Major was lost in troubling thought, pondering the implications of whatever Egyptian curse that he really didn't believe in to begin with becoming manifest. Most troubling to him, most of the people that he had heard about dying from a "curse" usually went out in a manner of mysterious circumstances or something truly mundane, not in a way that made people take notice and say, "Wow, now THAT was a masculine way to go." Contemplating the repercussions of such a fate, he did not realize Vera's predicament until she gave out yet another scream for the evening.

Reginald ran over and slapped both of his hands upon the ladder. Looking over his shoulder, he called out to Mr. Drake, "Come along then, archaeologist, and help me lower Lady Munn! Respectfully, mind you."

Nora Kingston

Location: Bank of the Nile River (C10)

Nora sighed softly, watching as darkness took over the sky. The heat vanished with each passing moment, and she continued to rejoice in the comfort of her cigarette. Her father didn't approve of the habit, finding it unladylike. She didn't mind, what with everyone in America partaking in the habit. It soothed her, almost reaffirming her thoughts on the world and life in general. Every drag produced the same cloud of smoke in front of her. Wincing slightly, Nora felt a burn on her finger.

"Cén fáth," Nora muttered, putting out the cigarette. Yet the burning sensation didn't cease, and she glanced down at the waiting waters of the Nile, spotting a peculiar glint. Frowning, Nora realized it was the Udjat from her dreams. The burning sensation on her finger had previously limited itself to dreams--and here, here it was in life. "I've gone mad," Nora concluded, her voice hardly a whisper. Fairytales were just that--tales. They didn't have any merit to them, any truth.

And yet, she couldn't deny what she saw. Scooping up a handful of rocks, Nora threw them into the waters, hoping to scare away anything that lurked in the depths. After each of them crashed into the water, she delicately crouched down, reaching her hand out for the Udjat. The burning feeling in her finger didn't stop, and a slight tear spilled from her eye, as the pain didn't cease. "Curiouser and curiouser..." Perhaps it was one of the many artifacts of Egypt, washed ashore. The striking resemblance to the object of her dreams could very well just be a coincidence.

"What are you?" Nora murmured, attempting to pluck it from the watery depths.

Feeling Aziza's fingers wrap around his own sent a cool, relaxing feeling through him as he sat there, smiling over at her as he nodded his head slowly. It was still odd to see her acting in such a way. He recalled the first few times they spoke, she was considerably more distant then than she was now, she had started to trust him more, at least in his mind, and he was pleased to see it. He opened his mouth to thank her again, but recalling her own words he forced himself not to, quietly chuckling to himself as he watched her turn her gaze back toward Lauren.

He listened to the two of them, raising an eyebrow as they brought up the comment of their dreams. It was curious to him at the coincidence, but he didn't say anything yet, remaining quiet as he glanced down to her hand once she had removed it, realising how long it had rested there, he let out another awkward chuckle and nodded to her question. "I would be happy to, I could probably use a break from writing, honestly..."[/b] Writing had become more and more difficult as time went on. The stress piled up the more he wrote and things became harder to recall, things became blurred and he tended to daydream more, something which was never a good thing in his mind.

His thoughts were rather suddenly broken then by the object flying past his head and toward Aziza, he hadn't even noticed the yelling beforehand as he watched her fall. In an instant he was on his feet, instinctively reaching into his jacket as his fingers wrapped around his gun, letting Lauren move to tend to Aziza as his eyes set on the man being escorted out. For a moment he had an intense desire to chase the man out, to beat him to a pulp, but he fought to keep that rage down, the rage he'd harnessed over a number of years. He sighed, letting go of the weapon and keeping it in his jacket as he watched Lauren move her toward the back, reaching down to pick up what had been thrown, idly looking over it as he followed the pair back.

William Drake

Location: Egyptian Museum

William scoffed as Vera snapped at him, a smirk on his face as she did so. "I'll have you know I secured and absolutely pric- uhhhh, fantastic find." It was an effort for him not to say 'priceless' - knowing it'd fit right into he argument. William in fact, agreed that he was a treasure hunter more than an archaeologist. However, he saw an opportunity to irritate the woman before him by claiming the title of archaeologist instead, and so he would keep it with pride, for as long as it frustrated her.

As she got back onto the topic of the drawing the Lord Major had produced, he watched her fairly closely, listening as she began to go through what exactly it was. William may have been far more interested in the price of whatever the artifact was, but he was still a student of history, in many cases it was what could be learned about an artifact that made it worth pursuing, whether or not it held a major price to it. Watching as she began to climb up the ladder, he sighed almost exasperatedly as it began to rock, her clumsiness was all too common.

Moving over relatively quickly along with Reginald, he put his hands on the ladder, gazing up to Vera as he carefully began to try and shift it back against the bookshelves. He kept himself in a position and his eyes on her so that he could quickly move from holding the ladder to try and catch her if she did fall however, keeping any snarky comments for when she was safe.

Josephine Clark

Location: Al Fishawi'

Josephine finished her tea and meal before delicately wiping crumbs off her mouth. A lady must maintain her appearance no matter where, after all. "Oh I know, darling. When I do go back home I will mention this lovely city. I can picture what wonders they can do with it. And yes, darling, sound in movies! Have you heard of anything that wild before? Now everyone can hear my voice as well. I, for one, wholeheartedly approve."

As she looked around the restaurant, Haakon made a mention of the ring. It took her a minute, but she realized that she, too, had a ring in her dream. Was the heat really getting to her? Was it getting to him? How could they possibly have the same dream? Or, at the very least, have something similar in dreams. Before she could ask, the restaurant began getting louder and busier. It was giving her a headache, "Darling, suppose we get out of here. It's getting louder and I would love to talk with you some more. Perhaps we can take a walk around the city, see what it offers?"

Haakon marveled at the elegance of Josephine's hand wiping away something from her mouth, a movement so smooth that it could have been mistaken for a rehearsed part from a scene. It wasn't that he hadn't been with, or even seen women like her, there were quite the number of dames back home that either sought fame and power or were famous and powerful like her. No, what made Josephine different to him was that she was...

His line of thought was cut short by Josephine talking to him, louder than before as if he wasn't listening. And for a moment he was afraid that he'd been staring at her, which would have been far from his character. But then he realized it too; their surroundings had grown louder, so loud that he was having trouble hearing her. "Takk og lov det ikke var meg..." he whispered to himself, his gaze then darting up to Josephine with a smile.

"Good idea, I was finished with my dinner either way. Waitor!" In not too much time, Haakon had gotten their bills and payed for both of them. He reminded himself to not do it again any time soon, seen as he would have to live on dry fruit for the next week after this. Not literarly, but close. Haakon offered Josephine his arm as they left their table, and walked down the now over-crowded street.

"May I suggest a location? What about the river, I hear it's quite spectacular in the night time. Perhaps I could have the honour of finishing that article about you? Nothing too serious or grave-digging, just the usual things you tell the media. Or am I being rude?"

@Morose @FantasyChic @ONL - Reach into the waters all you like but Nora can't seem to get a grip on what keeps reflecting in the water. The other two of you wander down by the Nile and you have the same thing occuring which started happening with Nora just a short time ago. Your finger burns, the item from your dream is reflecting in the Nile. Now all three of you, the item seems to move. Flashing and pulling you, if you try to wander away from it the burning gets stronger, as long as you follow it; it is tolerable. That is until each image comes together when you three are close enough to see the other on the banks of the Nile, then it become searing before the pain and the image finally fade away. On each of your fingers now, there is a branding where the burning could be felt, in the same shape as the one from your dream.

Location: Egyptian Museum

Vera gasps out, trying to keep herself up on the ladder without making it spill over or her loosing her grip. Her heels locking on one of the rungs, teetering back and forth as Reginald grabs a hold of the ladder and tries to keep his niece from spilling out onto the floor below. Jerking slightly Vera bends over, her mouth agape as her breathing trembled. Why did she always have to get herself into messes like this? It wasn't the first time. The first time she had knocked over rows and rows of book cases. She had spoken with the curator afterwards, after he chewed her out for the hundredth time for one of her little catastrophes. They had gone and made sure that the book cases now were all bolted to the floor. She had begged them to put in rungs for the ladders to lock onto but they just hadn't gotten around to it as of yet.

With William coming over she jostled again, trying to lean in to the ladder as it was carefully leaned back towards the bookshelf, but Vera was not the most graceful of characters and she was far from being a cat. The woman never landed on her feet. A slip of the heel and a scream echoing out of her lung as she fell back. Her rear end crashing right into Mr. Drakes chest as her feet hit a lower rung of the ladder, sending them both back into the other bookshelf behind them. Her hands flailing around and her fingers grabbing Williams hair, pulling it and tugging it as she tried to keep herself from falling any further. Her eyes closed tight so she didn't know how far from the ground she was, which at this point was only like a foot if she had bothered to open her eyes and look down.

Rushing into her office, the curator stopped in his tracks as he spotted Ver there, butt up in Mr. Drakes chest, the ladder slamming into the bookshelf and papers spilling out everywhere as a couple of books hit the floor. The man brought his hands up to his face and rubbed it before turning on his heels and walking straight back out of the office, muttering something about Allah forgetting to write about this particular plague of Egypt. Vera slowly opened one eye and then the other as it had been far too long in her mind to not have hit the floor as of yet. Sliding down Williams body as she put her feet down finally from the kicking and flailing she had been doing. Looking down at her hands she gasped out as she noticed she had a good few strands in each palm. Turning she looked up at William and her eyes went wide. "Mr. Drake! I am so sorry!"

Location: Alf Leyla Salah at Opera Square

Aziza wasn't exactly sure what to do or think at that point. She was used to being yelled at from time to time from some radical conservative. It was all part and parcel of the area and what she did for a living. The rock though, it was not something she had felt tear into her skin since the day she fled her home to keep from being stoned to death. Looking over towards Lauren she gave her friend a grateful look and slowly got to her feet. Taking the rag and holding it against the side of her head as she was helped to the back of the club with Harry following closely behind them.

She was glad that Harry was close and hadn't run off after the man; for several reasons. One because if the man was who she thought it was, it was going to get messy and she didn't want him caught up in her drama. Two, him being close put her at a little more ease. Sure she had guards at the club but they had to tend to everyone, they couldn't stay by her side right then. It was a coin flip of a situation. Part of her wishing Harry wasn't there so he wouldn't get mixed up in things, part of her glad he was.

Sitting down she pulled the rag away, it was a sizeable gash and would scar but thankfully it wasn't anything that would have required some sort of medical attention, at least not in the 1920's. Looking at the blood on the rag she sighed slightly and shook her head, to which her hand quickly came up and she groaned. She was not going to keep performing tonight if such a simple head movement cause her head to swim. "Thank you," she said looking over at Lauren as she tried to force a thin lipped smile as her shoulders slumped down.

The rock that had been thrown would look like a normal stone, except for Egyptian Arabic carved into it. It wasn't a common collection of lettering but one that anyone that had come to the club more than once would have recognized; at least the first few letters; spelling about Aziza's name. The rest, it would take someone fluent in the language to be able to read. From out front one of the usual bouncers came in to check on Aziza.

"You okay?" he asked as he stood in the doorway holding back the curtain somewhat. Aziza just nodded as she put the rag back against her head. "Okay, take the night off, go home," he instructed her. Aziza nodded once again and he turned and left. Sighing to herself she lowered her head a bit.

"Not going home tonight. I doubt it is safe," she muttered to herself.

The Lord Major noticed the curator's sudden appearance and understandable disappearance without so much as a "how do you do", offering a quick, informal gesture resembling a salute. In the midst of the chaos of the moment, books spilling about, Vera landing on William in a manner most unprofessional, the Lady Munn being, well, herself... Reginald could very well see why a man would cut his losses and disappear into the shadows of the museum. He had considered it once or twice herself, given the oft troublesome nature of her little accidents.

Then again, what manner of gentleman would retreat when there was obvious distress involving the aristocracy's fairer gender? The Lord Major rationalized the curator's decision, owing to his presence. There was already a gentleman of stature nearby, closer in fact, that could assist in the endeavor of righting the situation. It might have even been a breach of etiquette, given the situation, to attempt to overtake the clear duty of the gentleman present. The idea rang optimistically in Reginald's head. He knew the curator personally, a man of education named Senbu Khons. If not aristocracy (he was never really clear on his status in that regard), Mr. Khons was a gentleman, thusly would be operating under the higher guidelines of Manners. The subtleties of these guidelines changed from country to country, even region to region, but one could always recognize the presence of another gentleman.

Even if he was muttering supplications to God and running away.

"Well then, Lady Munn, good to see that you're all in one piece!" piped in the Lord Major, a jovial note to his voice. He set hands upon Vera's shoulders to steady her, just in case she felt a bit light-headed and inclined to take another tumble. "And with the good Mr. Drake none the worse for wear either, I see! Yes, quite befuddling incident to be sure, but no harm done. How about I help you tidy up a bit, and you tell me more about this Bastet? I'm quite curious now, you see."

Once Aziza sat down Lauren would look at her friend and gave her a soft smile and a gentle pat on her shoulder. "Don't mention it hun." Lauren said as she moved some of Aziza's hair to get a look at the gash from what she saw it didn't look like it needed any medical attention. "I'll be right back." Lauren said as she made her way back towards the bar and grabbed a small cup and poured a small bit of alcohol into it. Lauren came back in just as one of the bouncers came in to check up on Aziza, she smiled softly and gave the bouncer a quick nod grateful for the man checking in.

Lauren remembered quiet a few bar fights she always tended to some of the people, she turned her attention towards her friend and took the bloodied rag and poured some alcohol onto it. "It may sting a little bit just so you know." Lauren said as she gently dabbed it onto Aziza's gash just to make sure it wouldn't get any infection. "If you want you are more then willing to come to my place but its totally up to you." Lauren looked over her shoulder towards Harry and gave the man a quick smile as she stood up and gave the two of them a little space but she remained in the room for the time being just to make sure nothing else happened. "So what was that all about anyway?" Lauren asked, she had seen stuff like this happen before but they were drunk the man who had thrown the stone didn't appear to be at least from where she had been sitting.

Nora Kingston

Location: Bank of the Nile River (C10)

Her fingers passed through the water, grasping nothing. On occasion she scooped down more, until practically half of her arm was engulfed by the waters of the Nile. Still, like sand slipping through her fingers, the curious object eluded her grasp. In the near distance, she heard soft footsteps, and she turned, her eyes widening as she spotted the image begin to move. Carefully glancing around to ensure her father was not near to scold her, Nora dashed after the object, keeping a careful distance from the water. At each point she stopped to try and grasp it, she threw rocks into the water first, noticing that the object continued to move and no creatures came out of the depth to feast on her flesh.

Eventually, the image came to a stop, and Nora attempted to pluck it from the watery depths. As she began to bend down, however, she noticed a respectable gentleman and a movie starlet. Startled by their presence, Nora stood up straight, hiding the burning finger behind her back. The searing sensation did not let up, and acting as naturally as she could, Nora clasped her hands in front of her, noting the brand. Father will be displeased... Nora thought with slight dismay, ignoring the consequences. Magic of some sort was at hand, or perhaps, the couple in front of her was behind the matter.

"Charming weather, isn't it?" Nora greeted cordially, yet her words had no warmth behind them. They were stiff and mechanical, the traditional conventions of the British. Had she been able to, she would have offered them a cup of tea, and commented on the state of the nation since the war had finished. Extending her hand to them, Nora smiled tightly. "Miss Kingston, daughter of Dr. Kingston, a professor of anthropology at Victoria University." she introduced herself, tilting her head slightly as if to inquire after their names.

As soon as the pleasantries were over with, Nora intended to head over to the museum. An egyptologist would likely be on hand, and she may be able to coerce them to examine the sketch of the brand. It wouldn't do for them to see the brand itself, and perhaps if she claimed it was an urgent matter for Dr. Kingston, they would acquiesce to her request. It wasn't very often that Nora headed to the museum, with her father sending her on urgent errands--such as washing his linens and scheduling his teas. It was hardly fulfilling. "I do apologize, but I must be off to the museum in a few moments," Nora apologized, smiling uneasily. "It has been a pleasure to make your acquaintance, the both of you. If you should ever be in Garden City, do call upon me. I would be delighted to receive you under other circumstances than these."

Haakon J. Elvsgaard

Location:Bank of the river Nile

The conversation going on between Haakon and Josephine was pleasent enough, at least when they finally reached an area of Cairo that they didn't have to yell over. The topics were far and near, ranging from Josephine's previous and up-coming movies and once again the new technology of sound-films; other subjects were of Haakon bragging about his own accomplishments, his article he was writing and a also jumping briefly into the case of the Pharaoe's Curse.

That part was cut short as the so pain embedded his finger, his eyes not sure whether to stare at his burning finger or The Ring appearing in the river itself. "Hva fanden er detta her?" Haakon said quietly to himself, turning from the river to face Josephine, who seemingly was experiencing the same thing judging from the look in face. "The pain, you feel it too? And...the ring, in the river! No, this surely can't be real. It must be an illusion, that damned cook must have slipped something into my coffee!"

But all the talk of it being an illusion, it sure as hell didn't feel like it, and Haakon began moving down the river itself in pursuit of the ring. He began to jog, his mind forgetting about Josephine until he came to a stop again; a woman was standing before them, quickly hiding her hand just as she saw them. And for a brief second Haakon could swear that he'd seen her before, altough that surely couldn't be true? Then again, the ring and all of this surely couldn't be either, but that didn't stop the ring from being clearly visible on the Nile and the pain soaring in his hand.

But the ring was gone, just like the pain, much to Haakon's relief. The branding around his finger however brought back the fear quickly.

"Ehm...sure, nice weather..." Haakon said, giving her a confused look as he tried to piece it all together, but to no avail. He shot a look back at Josephine, whether or not she was there, and then looked back at the lady who reached out her hand. Haakon J. Elvsgaard, journalist...now this must certainly just be part of my wildest imagination, but I must ask: Did you follow that ring, the one in the river? And the museum? Well, eh...Josephine. I have a strange feeling that perhaps we should visit it too..."

Haakon took of his fedora, brushing his hand through his hair and breathing heavily, his eyes darting back and fourth as if looking for an answer. In all his years of, well just about everything he'd experienced, this really puzzled him. And not only that, it frightened him.

Harry Walsh

Location: Alf Leyla Salah at Opera Square

Moving quietly after the two as he looked over the stone, Harry could only read part of it, which was already enough to make the man more concerned than he already was. He remained relatively quiet as he looked over it, idly brushing his thumb over the writing as he looked between it and Aziza as she pulled the rag away to reveal the gash on her head. He frowned at the sight of it, but wasn't remotely deterred as he moved closer, giving her a slight smile as he took a look at it. He wasn't a doctor but he'd at least gotten a basic idea of injuries in the war, it also meant the blood didn't deter him much at all.

Concluding she would be relatively okay, he let Lauren deal with the treatment as she took the rag and dabbed some alcohol onto it. As the bouncer came out and suggested she go home, Harry nodded to Lauren's suggestion, adding in his own comment. "I'll be happy to walk you home as well, or to Lauren's, if it would make you feel safer." He assured Aziza quietly. At this point he certainly would've felt responsible if anything further had happened. Glancing down to the rock, he sighed and turned his gaze back toward Aziza.

"There's writing on this, but, I can't read it..." He explained simply as he held the rock out toward her, a gut feeling told him whatever was written on the stone wasn't exactly a love letter, or not the kind you ever wanted to reply to, anyway. But he felt she certainly had a right to know whatever was on it, he wouldn't figure it out without asking, anyway.

William Drake

Location: Egyptian Museum

William knew Vera was going to fall on him. There was no telling what it was, in fact it really was a guess more than anything, but there was just something about this kind of situation, the way fate had made this happen that he knew there was no way in hell Vera was going to get down from that precarious spot without falling ontop of him. And lo and behold, it didn't take long for that very reality to come true.

Things essentially went into slow motion for William when her heel slipped on the ladder. He should've kicked into over-drive, let go of the ladder and caught hold of her in a graceful, action-hero-esque manner. Except, none of that happened. He staggered back a moment and flung out his arms, almost losing his balance himself before he caught her, falling back onto the ground and his back as he groaned, the woman sitting on his chest and her hands grabbing his hair as if she was holding onto him for dear life. Hitting the ground hard, he groaned loudly and coughed a little, her having knocked the wind out of him as he lay there, looking up at her before a book that fell off the shelf landed on his face, prompting another groan.

"Ow." He grumbled quietly as Vera finally got up and off him and immediately apologised, moving to stand, he dusted himself off, looking between the Major and her, as if stunned by her show of concern. "Oh don't worry, i'm still in one piece, know you'd be losin' sleep otherwise." He smirked roguishly, showing that he was well and truly no worse for wear right off the cuff.

Josephine Clark

Location: Bank of the River Nile

Josephine didn't mind much that Haakon wanted to ask her questions. If there was anything she loved to talk about, it was herself after all. She just hoped it wouldn't be another drama filled post about her. It was bad enough it happened constantly in America, but in other countries too?

It wasn't until they neared the river that Josephine started feeling a burning sensation, a small pain. She wondered if perhaps the foreign food was finally getting to her until she realized that Haakon was experiencing the same. She looked around and saw the ring in the river. The ring that was in her dreams. She chased after it along with Haakon. She would mentally slap herself later for acting so foolish, but any thoughts she had about turning back were quickly dismissed. She had to get that ring.

As the two stumbled forward, the came to a woman. Josephine thought maybe she saw her before, but then again, it didn't much matter to her. As she introduced herself she found herself kind of admiring the woman. A woman with brains, it seemed. She was all for that. It should be a woman's world, after all. "Josephine Clark, darling, though I am sure you've heard of me." She didn't wait for a response, even though one was given, and instead turned to Haakon, "The museum? Yes, I suppose they would have the answers. You saw the ring too? This is bizarre, perhaps the heat is getting to me. But I am always up for an adventure, darling. Shall we make our way to the museum?" She paid the other woman no mind now as her thoughts were focused on one thing only; getting to the bottom of this new mystery.

@Morose @FantasyChic @ONL - Remember - the burn was/is still painful - it just got more painful if you tried to walk away. It isn't something that is just "oh that hurt" - all three characters are now branded with the ring on their fingers. So the skin is blistered and red, perhaps a little blood - just as if you had branded a cow. So it is searing. The image in the river is gone but the brand on your finger is permanent and it still fucking hurts. (Please make corrections in next post as needed)

Vera looked up at William and rolled her eyes, of course he would be like this. Smoothing out the front of her skirt she then pushed some of the bangs out of her face. "I doubt you could ever make me loose sleep Mr. Drake," she hissed back as she gave an rather over exaggerated huff. Looking over at Reginald she nodded as she swooped up several of the books she had dropped and walked back over to her desk but not before driving her heel right into Williams foot; a smirk on her face showed that it was for once no accident.

Seating herself down behind her desk she flipped over one of the books in her hand and then another. "Oh Bastet is a very interesting dear uncle Regi. Not as war like as you might like but I find her truly fascinating. In Egyptian Astrology in fact, today is the beginning her 3rd cycle this year. The Udjat you have been seeing, to most known as the Eye Of Horus, is one of her many symbols. She is quite the sinful Goddess, well not her but her cult following thousands of years ago. Her festival was one of the most sought after and deviously wicked in matters of the flesh in Egyptian History," she prattled on, looking up slowly as she finished speaking and her eyes locking with William. Her checks suddenly went warm s they pinked before she coughed and looked away.

"Anyways, she is usually depicted as a woman with the head of a cat but before that she was represented as a Lioness. The favorite daughter of Iris and Ra themselves. She is known mostly for cats of course, the guardians of the underworld but less known is that magicians and healers of old followed her," Vera added as sh kept flipping through books before finding the image she was looking for and turning the book to show Reginald as she set it down on the desk. "How long have you two been seeing the udjat?" she asked as she blew a piece of her bangs out of her face.

Aziza hissed some as Lauren cleaned up the cut on her head, her fingers curling some from the pain but she let out a long breath as her eyes shot up to Lauren and then Harry. She couldn't believe that two people she had only known a short while were offering to help her feel more at peace and safer. Maybe they were just being kind maybe they wouldn't be if they knew why she was just attacked. Granted she wasn't sure if the reason she thought she was hit by the stone was the real reason but after what was shouted at her it felt like it was.

"Thank you, both. Very much," she said and was about to say more but Lauren then asked what it was about and Harry said there was something on the stone. Reaching up slowly she took it from his fingers, hers gently grazing his as she did. Looking at it, she turned it over and read it, her face draining of color. She just froze there for a moment before she started to shake horribly and the stone fell from her fingers as they went limb. Closing her eyes she tried to breath, to steady her nerves but it was no use. It was obvious that she was beyond terrified.

"It says... almawt qadim.. Death is coming," she finally was able to squeak out before lowering her head and covering her face in her hands. This couldn't be happening. She hadn't been back to the village since they day they drove her out trying to stone her to death for a crime she never committed. How could she ask these two to help her if she knew what was in store for her. "I... I should go," she said nervously as she slowly stood up, steadying herself as her hand fell to the back of a chair.

Nora Kingston

Location: Bank of the Nile River (C10) ---> Egyptian Museum

Nora's eyes watered, as she struggled to keep the pain from bubbling to her mind. The initial shock of seeing the two strangers had distracted her for a mere moment, and she continued to clasp her hand tightly, cutting off blood flow to that finger. Had she not been such a naturally quiet person, Nora would have been screaming and wailing from the pain--instead, tears shed from her eyes quietly, but she kept up a cool expression as always.

"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance," Nora said, her voice steady. Haakon seemed to be rather sensible, yet Josephine immediately struck her as pretentious and foolish. Perhaps it was a cultural bias against confident women, or maybe just a genuine dislike of the woman. Her instinct was to run and leave, to withdraw into a quiet place and call a physician, once ready, to examine the wound. She fancied she felt a bit of blood on her hands, and she continued to squeeze her finger tightly, preferring its irritated protest at being touched over allowing the blood to flow to it.

However, Haakon and Josephine's questions startled her. She had, of course, seen the ring floating like a specter in the watery depths of the Nile. But did she tell them she had seen it? Word would get out -- journalists would scandalize her family if Nora admitted to having seen an apparition in the water. Her family would be forced to send her to an institution, such as Briarcliff Home for Afflicted Girls, in order to save their name. They had already made it quite clear to her the stakes when she attended university for maths, explaining to her the exact institution she would be sent to.

She bit down on her lip, the brand forcing itself to the front of her mind once more. "Yes," Nora replied simply, honesty an intrinsic part of her character. At that answer, she quickly let go of her finger, only to grasp it again in a more comfortable position. Not pausing for Haakon and Josephine, Nora quickly began the dark walk towards the Egyptian Museum.

By the time Nora arrived at the museum, she really wished she had gone to see a physician first. The branded finger was throbbing despite her best efforts, and she allowed herself to let out a small whimper of pain. She pushed open the doors of the museum, glancing around in search of someone who could give her help. "I'm in dire need of assistance," Nora eventually said, to whomever greeted her upon entering the museum. She let go of her finger, allowing the brand to be visible. "Is anyone on hand who is well versed in Egyptology, perhaps? I'm afraid it's quite urgent..."

Reginald Keystone

Location: Egyptian Museum

Stepping away from the scene of the unfortunate tumble, the Lord Major followed Vera back to her desk, careful to keep his hands low in case of the likely event of sudden book droppage or his semiadoptive niece accidentally tripping over a low, invisible obstacle. He knew what to expect from the irreplaceable Vera Munn, and especially after that kind of a spill, he was on his guard. Incidents like this, it is said, come in threes.

"Well I do say, Lady Munn, it sounds like this Bastet totty throws quite the event! I daresay the lads and myself (decades hence, mind you) would have behaved most ungentlemanly at one of those galas. Rather a fitting thing now that I am almost to venerable to properly partake of said festivities. Befuddles one's sense of resolve, you know."

Reginald spoke in a boisterous manner, as he always did. The part of a doddering old man had two interesting effects on people: They tended to underestimate the old guy, and it afforded him opportunities to observe. This occasion had him observing the faintest rose color creeping onto Vera's face as she discussed the goings on of these Bastet parties, but only when her eyes met Mr. Drake's, across the room. Curious, that.

In an effort to avoid embarrassment on her part, he continued his (almost) monologue, answering her question about his udjat dreams. "That part is really hard to say, my Lady. It had been..." he paused for a second, looking slightly embarrassed himself, "...years, that I can remember. Ever since I came to Cairo. Mayhap even a little more, that I know not why I should think that. Quite the mystery, really."

Reginald shook his head, slowly and gravely. "Was but until recently my stories from Nod turned painful. Even after my waking; it was why I finally resolved to learn more."

A touch of shock crossed the face of the Lord Major. Just in that moment, he realized that he didn't actually share the source of his insight into the symbol. It was William Drake who offered up that he had dreamt of the thing, yet Reginald just tipped his hand that he had, as well. The good news: He might not be crazy. The bad news: He might wish that it were that simple.

Lauren looked between Harry and Aziza the two knew the language more then she did, but when Aziza answered the question and what was scribbled onto the stone she froze. Lauren considered Aziza a friend of hers and she didn't want to see anything happen to her even if she had known the woman for only a few days. Lauren quickly reached over and gently held Aziza's hand seeing the color fading from her face she quickly shook her head. "I think leaving the building right now would be a really bad idea." Lauren said, she had seen and watched people get brutally attacked after leaving a bar. "I suggest we sneak out of the back, or wait here a bit longer until things die down." Lauren said brushing a strand of hair out of Aziza's face.

"I'm not going to let a friend get jumped after leaving the bar." Lauren was tempted to ask why Aziza was attacked but she decided against it at least for now or if Aziza was willing to tell her that Lauren then looked over towards Harry for a moment. "What do you think we should do?" Lauren asked the man looked like he could handle himself in a fight if it did end up coming down to it.
