@POOHEAD189 well better pick fast 'cos today's the day

Start with whichever one you already have an opening line for. If more than one, pick the most exciting. If none, whichever has the clearest opening scene in your mind. Getting started is everything.

I'm unshamefully doing soapy romance akin to daytime soap operas.

Got a problem? Fite me irl.

please don't; I'm very weak irl.

I'm all ready to disappoint a bunch of rp folks by being less-active due to this thing.

Tell them that you're dropping out and why. Believe me, it's better than just dwindling away and leaving other people hanging, and taking on several projects at once will not work.

I'm thinking he was mostly kidding, at least at the severity of his time consumption.

Edit: Oh, guess not lol.

I mean, let's be honest here. Writing 50,000 words in a single month. If you plan to do that challenge and take it even slightly seriously. Yeah, I couldn't honestly imagine people juggling RP's (let alone several of them.) as well. Unless they were half-ass with it. Precisely, as fun as it may sound. I don't plan on participating because the RP's I join deserve the attention, because me forgoing the writing challenge won't lead to anyone else's time being wasted in the process.

Got this morning's quota down and breached the 6,000 word mark, albeit with help from the introduction I wrote the week before.

Keep at it lads

we're all gonna make it

Getting ready to start writing for day 2. Seems the universe doesn't want me to finish NaNo, though. Hurt my wrist yesterday, i'm suddenly sick, and I generally feel sluggish. I'm just waiting for my computer to blow up.

@VarionusNWMan, my wrist, too. I dunno if it's caused by writing or just a lead-up. Either way, I got my first day done, so GET HYPE!

I'm getting a late start as yesterday(well technically today) I was feeling out of it, but I'm going to try and get back on track by day 3 - four at the latest. I've got a clear vision of what I want to do in the first act, so it's all a matter of getting it into writing.

@Tybalt Capulet Hopefully it doesn't change mid-story. =-= Though, I'm reeeeally liking how my first chapter came together. The MC is a strong, smart heroine. She has her politician father's ability to charm and her mother's grace. Truly a force to be reckoned with. I feel sorry for whoever becomes her enemy.

@Altered Tundra My main character is pretty dang bland, but I think he'll improve as I figure him out more, and he's challenged. My secondary character is great, though.

@Tybalt Capulet I think that's a common occurance for people doing Nano. Unless you plan months in advance, you have no way of knowing how the MC or any of the other characters are gonna end up until you actually write them out chapter-by-chapter.

That's how it was for me last year when I completed my first Nano novel. I mean, I've been doing this for 4 years now, but last year was when I finally reached the 50k goal. I am aiming to do that again this year.

Consider: your secondary character may actually be your main character. Alternatively, you could focus on the relationships of the main character and how they influence the main's development.

I realised my current main character is sort of boring once I started writing him, though I should've seen it coming sooner. Once I start to focus on the bad influences of his friends and how he becomes a bad influence himself, that will hopefully start to clear up.

@Altered Tundra Can't relate to your MC vibes, though, because my current one is an anxious mess who flinches when spoken to. His occupation is sewage inspector and his friends bring him along as a mascot because they pity him.

And just because I'm a massive dickhead he's also disabled.

This will be my fourth NaNo (non-consecutive), and I'm fairly confident I can add my third finish this year.

I normally outline heavily, and while I didn't put nearly the time I wanted into that project this year, I think I'll be all right. I'm adapting a short-form thing I wrote a couple of years ago into a larger story, because I always thought there was a little more meat there than I had time to really play with.

In this case, the story is a superhero-metahuman setting. The main character is a woman who was "normal" while her sister was the one with extraordinary abilities. The thing is, the sister, while fundamentally moral and a nominal hero type, has profound misgivings about the idea of not being human (or, at the very least, something other than human), something that leads her to be self-destructive when she doesn't have a Big Bad to fight. In an effort to prevent or delay that, the point of view character chooses to make herself into that sort of persistent Professional Adversary. The story starts on the day that wasn't enough.

Right now the plan is for the first bit to be an in medias res start, then I'll probably do the "how we got here" contextualizing story that sets up the midpoint of the story before getting on to the consequences and blah blah. I'm reasonably sure there won't be a "nominal bad guy teaming up with the nominal good guys" arc; the main character is going to be strongly antagonized by her sister's former...um...co-workers, while also dealing with what happens after the sister's real dive into her downward spiral.
