Basically same as above answer. Now, I probably could...If I just came up with some bullshit and didn't spend so much time editing it. A good imagination helps with that. But I also love editing my sentences constantly, which slows my writing to a crawl. ^-^'

I've heard of this before.

I would love to try it and I have plenty of ideas, but I fear that my schedule, need for perfectionism, and drifting mind will distract me too much. It's shame as I would really love to actually write solid content of value, but I doubt that I'm actually capable of doing so.

I've written a lot of pages over the years, but I never actually participated in this because I mainly didn't like making my writing into an assignment. But this year I'm trying it.

I haven't entered one before and really want to at some point, but a tip I can give us to map out your story from beginning to end before you write. You have to fill out 50,000 words, writing almost 2,000 a day, and you need to feel confident that you know what you are going to write about.

@Tybalt Capulet Welcome to Hell.

I've only tried the NaNo project once, but the way I made it to the end is by setting a personal goal lower than the recommended 50k words. At 34k words, writing ~1100 a day, I could keep up a beautiful month-long progress chart and feel like I accomplished something without having technically beaten the challenge.

This time I'm aiming for the full 50k, but the confidence you'll gain from getting a set number of words down every day for a month is amazing no matter what your goal.

I've done it a couple of times. You should try this. It does not matter if you're writing total crap. The sheer act of completing the challenge will improve your writing -- heck, getting close will improve your writing. It's something everybody ought to do.

.....also I have no idea what I'm writing, or how far I'll get, but I'm going for it again.

This'll be my third Nanowrimo. I'm both excited and worried, since I'm much busier than I was with the last two. It requires a lot of dedication and focus, but if you just keep writing no matter what you should be able to pull it off if you don't get hit by a truck of writer's block. For me whole thing became a lot easier once I created a chapter outline, which I unfortunately didn't have time to do this time around.

This'll be my first time, but I have a "Decent" idea of what I'm doing with it, so that'll help a bit.

Yo, critique my synopsis, fam.

A Privateer ship wrecks on the coast of an undiscovered land. On these foreign shores, the sailors must hold out against the forces of nature, the mysterious, inhuman natives, and perhaps most frighteningly, the youthful incompetence of their leader.

Just do all of them, man. I have at least four stories and I'm compiling them into a novel of sorts.

nanowrimo.org/participants/antarctic-…

We got some paranormal modern comedy stuff, some flat sci-fi, a modern fantasy (horror?) teen story, and a high fantasy plot. Currently doing the sci-fi city of filth prompt for one chapter, then I'll move back to the narrator and start a chapter of steelsmith high fantasy probably.

Are you doing some paranormal alt-history stuff or did you make up your own setting? It sounds dandy.

I'm doin' my own world. Sort of a "What if Columbus discovered the elves" sorta deal, but with Columbus as an even-more incompetent guy.

@Ambra convinced me to try my luck, so I suppose I'm ready to suffer baptism by fire write for Nanowrimo.

In terms of plot/setting:

I have yet to officialize my plans for what novel I will attempt to write in November, but I have a slight idea on what I plan to write. It'll surely be fantasy, yet with a tinge of historical influences. It'll mainly focus in some pseudo-land similar to the Eurasian steppes where the ancient Scythians used to roam. I'll probably take inspiration from Turkish or Mongolian civilizations, as well many more that I have yet to consider too. I might change up the plot and expand it some more, but I'm thinking about a character that lives in a harsh land where lies and deceit are at every corner.

Yes, I'm lazy and just copied it from my introductory post on the nanowrimo forums.
