Introduction

Chiavo is a (fictional) city-state on the Mediterranean, known for its beach resorts, olive farms, traditional architecture, and a rich history of crime families. Today, all but one of those crime families are defunct, whether from competition, transformation into legitimate organizations or dismantled by the government. As the last of its kind, the Crogiolo Syndicate has retreated underground. Long gone are the syndicate's days of brazen robberies and lavish parties. The name Crogiolo in 2019 implies an obscure network of thieves, smugglers and drug dealers.

However, obscurity does not equate to safety. The syndicate's matriarch, Federica Azzurro, considered untouchable by the law for decades, has been arrested. A convoy of police vehicles surrounded her suburban estate at night, followed by broadcast of her meticulously covered up crimes in the morning. Chiavo Police promises more arrests to come; they have discovered Crogiolo's biggest secrets.

There are only seven people in the matriarch's inner circle, that are privy to her most discrete dealings. You are one of them, and you know that only your peers could have leaked the secrets to the police. The matriarch never appointed a successor among you (expecting to stay in power for decades), but there is a consensus to finding the traitors, and exact swift vengeance upon them.

This RP is a 7-player adaption of Mafia, except the flavor of killers and townsfolks have been flipped around. If you've never played this game before, you can learn more on this wiki.

This roleplay will be player-driven; you influence what happens, so communicate frequently. The game runs between three to six (OOC) weeks, and one IC post is required from each player per week. Your spot will be reassigned to a queued player if you miss the deadline.

After seven players have signed up (further applicants will be placed in queue), certain players at random receive secret roles. These roles are in the next section. Your role must remain a secret and will only be revealed if you die. Do not PM other participants (active or defeated).

Mechanics

Gameplay is divided in 2 phases:

The game starts in "Day" phase, which is the time for interaction. Throughout this phase, there will be an ongoing vote for who is believed to be the killer. At the end of Waking Phase, the character with more than half of all votes (ie. 4 votes out of 7 active players, 3 out of 5, etc.) will be lynched and their role revealed. Players can choose to abstain from voting and change or cancel their votes within the allotted time. Once both murderers are caught, the game is over and those remaining win. Otherwise, we continue into the next phase.

"Night" phase means silence. No IC posts are allowed during this phase. The GM will message everyone to determine their course of action for that night. This is the time for the antagonists to kill, and also for special roles to use their abilities. Roles will be given through PMs and results will only be returned once all actions are locked in.

Vote tally and the result of each phase will be tracked in OOC. Please specify your Daytime vote in IC (with hider), or OOC.

Here's Reika. Let me know if I need to change anything, really, anything at all. I have a couple back up ideas for characters. I just noticed the Crogiolo Syndicate wasn't a familial or generational one, so I just put this idea I had to paper of someone who was born and raised in a similar, but very distant, environment.

Reika Saigyo

Background

Her father was a ruthless man. Mizuno Saigyo was a killer, a leader, and a cold, calculating genius. He taught his daughter everything he knew. It was not a loving relationship, but it was an...effective one. Reika is a relentless over achiever, and from youth she trained during most of her free time and became a particularly talented gymnast and even martial artist. So when Mizuno died in his sleep a few years ago, his daughter was the heir to the throne of the Saigyo dynasty, as it were. But long past were the days of running the criminal underground of Japan, and having international connections. Reika made a move- she would focus on strengthening bridges with once-neglected allies of the
Crogiolo Syndicate. A few years later, she had lost power, sure, but the dynasty survived. It only made sense to merge the two fully, and a year ago Reika moved to a house in Chiavo. The once proud Syndicate needed strength, and so it allowed her a seat on the council in order to bolster their numbers and presence in the city.

So, for a while now, Reika has been quietly working, gathering wealth and clout within the Syndicate, managing the Cocaine division as well as providing muscle for the other members whenever they needed it. And now, well, whatever wave of so called "justice" brought her father's dynasty down in the east, has swept west. Now, the pigs are at their heels, and there is a traitor among them.

Background

Brief history.

The pampered daughter of a wealthy american tech billionaire, Alice slathers her life of luxury over instagram, snapchat, facebook, and a dozen other social media sites so hip you haven't even heard of them yet. And if the a cartel rival happens to eat some very bad shellfish and end up dead whilst on a date with her, or one of Frederika's associates just happens to take his own life hours after appearing in the background of one of her slefies, well, that's just an unfortunate coincidence, isn't it? It couldn't possibly be because of Alice. Not a chance.

- The murder of an associate, using saxitoxin, a type of poison produced by algae that ends up in shellfish. The man offered to take her on a date to a seafood resteraunt, and Alice arranged for a deadly amount of the poison to end up in his food.

- The murder of the boss of a rival gang, staged to look like a pharmacy mistake, Alice replaced the beta-blockers the victim had just been prescribed to help with her tremors with a much higher dose, causing the woman to go overdose and go into cardiac arrest within hours.

Federica Azzurro - Crogiolo Syndicate Matriarch

Background

Federica first discovered her uncle working for the Crogiolo Syndicate when she was in university, desperate to do anything for money. She started runnig scams part-time with her uncle, and quickly found herself quitting school and going full time. That was a time when a stern law enforcement in Chiovo picked off old crime families left and right. Crogiolo itself nearly fell then, when Federica's uncle became its acting leader after many others' arrest and betrayed his colleagues for a pardon. Thankfully for the surviving syndicate members, Federica was there to pick up the pieces. She kept the syndicate low for a few years, allowing it to persist despite its peers' demise, then tranformed the traditionalist crime family into a quasi-legal enterprise (on the surface) with international connections. Although she still kept in connect with some street criminls, Federica diversified the syndicate's portfolio by sponsoring and bribing businesses and politicians. This gave her unmatched connections and opportunities, and allowed for personal luxuries otherwise impossible to obtain.

Federica was once married and had a child, but the subsequent divorce drove both her husband and child away. She never remarried after, instead, she sees the best of Crogiolo as her offsprings and believes she is giving them a better life.

For a criminal mastermind, Federica is relatively cheerful. She often greets her subordinates, clients and contacts with a smile, knowing that none of them dares to cross her...until now.

Background

Half Italian, half Greek. Lucia is the daughter of a major European crime lord. Her father, her brother two years her senior along with herself are the only surviving members of the Koundouros family. Her mother, her younger brother and younger sister have all been previously killed. Despite the violent curse the family can't seem to shake off, Lucia herself is rather passive and soft-spoken. She lets her actions do the talking.

From a young age, Lucia taught herself how to "beat the system", so to speak. It started out small, fixing grades here and there, etc. Soon enough, the young girl would learn she had a very unique talent, and once her father found out and she was old enough, Lucia was told the truth about about the Koundouros clan. Even though she went on to university to further her education, Lucia never really worked the field, at least in an ideal way.

Background

Leo grew up in a family of killers. His father was one of many goons for the Crogiolo Syndicate who took a bit of pleasure in doing the dirty work. He raised his boys, Leo and his two brothers, to be tools and weapons for The Family ever since they were young. His brother's had a bloodlust, but Leo never shared those impulses. You cut a man and he'll heal in a few days. The only way to cripple someone permanently is to take away everything that means something to them. While his brothers specialized in tormenting a mark's loved ones, Leo would attack their finances, their tax records, their deeds and the rest of their assets. He would chew you up and spit you out as a homeless, penniless shadow of your former self, leaving you to the wolves of the underworld to sort you out.

The Syndicate sent him to school to get his legitimate degrees and then put him in charge of helping manage the major financial movements within the Family. While Leo has no confirmed deaths on his record, he has a huge list of lives he's destroyed. He is very calm and calculated in all situations. He often overanalyzes a situation in order to predict all possible outcomes of an action before making the move. He can be quick to anger in confrontational situations and thinks quite highly of himself, often assuming that he is the smartest person in any given room.
