I'm having trouble coming up with a race, so I thought I'd pick my spot on the map and make a race that would be suited for survival there to narrow things down. What can you tell me about the part of the map I have circled below?

@6slyboy6 Point one: I know that having a discord seems inviting but I think that for an RP like this, having thought out and longer OOC posts to discuss things fits the bill better than rapid fire discussion, especially in the case things could get heated.

Two: I wouldn’t mind a spreadsheet so long as we are allowed to be creative outside of that? Perhaps the spreadsheet could be like “this is what I’m thinking of” but a player gets a totally cool idea to have a tech that, idk, allows the creation of metal out of dead owls or something. We should be able to propose custom technology to keep things interesting?

Three: I have to admit I’m browsing this page even when no new changes have been made purely because I’m hype as hell. I don’t mind waiting til thursday so long as the OOC is a bit lively - having something to so seems nice?

@rush99999 Yes, absolutely! I'm jsut working on a composite file right now that I can quickly reproduce for everyone to have a personalize worldview of topography and biomes! I'll make yours first, so expect a PM soon.

And since it's officially not my birthday here anymore, I'll also be working on everybody else's who already marked their palce so you can get some idea as to where you all live!

@Odin Hehe, I was thinking talking here as well, for that reason. For point two I'm going to allow creative freedom but within certain limits for the sake of balancing. So for example, if I say steelworking, your civilization might make simple swords like they used to, they might make something akeen to an elven sabre or an orcish warhammer, or some glirious nippon nichirin colorblade that changes colors depending on the user. They might use industrial forges the size of a house, some rickety construction they hobbled together from seashells and dead algae, or they are burying charcoal underground with some ore to make the materials. Whatever it is, that's up to you, but not one race will suddenly gain the ability create wine from water or steel from owls.

BUT! If you have any cool ideas for technologies, materials, animals, geographical features or magic (yes, magic! But on that I will touch later on, it will be a big IC thing) then feel free to say, and after a community vote we'll add it to the game. Perhaps the best example is the game I totally didn't get the idea for this RP from, Endless Legend.

They have a lot of unique takes on 4X, like Dust as a resource, currency and also drug and magical conduit. Glassteel as a plant that grows in thick brushes and can be amchined into powerful alloys. Wizard Stones that pulsate energy and are elusve occurances. I highly encurage everyone to go to the Endless Legends Wiki and look at the races and terrain features because they are very amazing,a nd I want to amchine a similarly interesting and vivid world for all of us to play in, something especially important in these early phases and later on when people truly start exploring the world around them.

And for the last part, I'm glad to hear that! My mind is going crazy with ideas too, including designing a little app to help with managing all of these things for every player haha. But that's just a WIP, we'll see how far we can get ^^

I swear it happens every time... anyways, I'll be sure to make all the maps for you once I wake up, and then we can get onto brainstorming proper for some cool stuff! Though I'll be a bit occupied with studying programming, I'll use my breaks to make the maps and hop on once I'm done with everything!

I've lurked in various interest checks and such places over a long while. So i am guessing you saw me in one of those places, at least potentially. Or maybe that dead 'Battle for Titania' RP or something of the sort. Hmm...

I all seriousness, I have a lot of events prepared. My idea is that using this way of getting to know your race from the very beginning, it can develop into a more usual NRP but with players who truly appreciate and care about their races, with VAST amounts of material to work with compared to other NRPs where you have to make up often thousands of years of history before you can submit your sheet.

I like the concept! It makes sense, at least, to kick things off simply and build from there. Kinda like playing Age of Empires, in a sense, at least in my brain. :D

It is a pretty long-term a goal for an RP though. I hope this place develops the strong core needed to at least keep it alive. Though on the other hand, those who leave can be technically killed off potentially as an IC mechanic (er, not that they have to, just a silly suggestion that came to mind lol). XD

It makes me feel tempted (just tempted at the moment, to avoid overextending myself by rushjing into something) to join, if only because primitive dragon-like humanoids forming a nation could be a cool thing potentially. Or if not dragon-like, then something else fitting on that island between the two landmasses. Haha. That, and admittedly these types of RPs tend to be slower and easier to handle than others sometimes.

At any rate, thank you for all of the helpful answers, dear tiny potato! :P

Careful about that crazy mental energy tho, don't Brain Blast yourself into the next galaxy! ;)

And yeah, the idea is to make a slow burner that ticks every single checkbox for fans of NRP who sometimes feel like certain areas are lacking. The idea is to make something slow, lore and creativity friendly, that has the potential to become literally anything that the palyers want to form it into. (Not that I'm expecting it or anything, but give us two years or three and we'll have a space NRP on our hands XD )

So yeah, I'm not gonna tempt you to join, but please, feel tempted to join us X3

@Caelum Certainly, you might be right. Aggressive dragon boys and the totally not dark eldar do look like a combo which might develop a long history of fighting each other

I can imagine it already, adventurers from faraway lands will tell epoc sagas of how the Forestfolk fought the phisically superior race of dragons, their mighty clashes echoing like thunder in a storm. If you know DnD dwarves and how they fought/fight giants, then you know what I'm talking about haha

And yeah, finding a good pic can be incredibly hard at times. I know the pain very well ^^'

RACE NAME: Aslanta
RACE PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Amphibious, progenetic humanoids physiologically closest to salamanders. Their coloration is almost uniformly dark blue or black, save during the mating season, when it can adopt a startling variety of violent hues in red and purple. Their skin is permeable, and feels like moist velvet to the touch. When startled, angry, or seeking a mate, the Aslanta's skin-glands emit a powerful, musky pheromone. Their eye-sight is quite poor, but they are extremely adept at sensing minute changes in vibrations and temperature, especially in the water.
POPULATION: 12
RACE BEHAVIOUR: The Aslanta are whimsical, promiscuous, lazy, and carefree. They are timid when it comes to most conflict, but have no concept of personal space, ownership, or responsibility. Their days are filled with wild song and dance above and beneath the waters, before they retreat to sunken grottoes to feast on fish and kelp and tell stories of their light-hearted adventures.

Well then, you asked for it. You can use this on your own if you think it's too powerful, and I strayed away from magic a bit since I wasn't sure if the supernatural exist in this universe. I'll get your OK before I put them on the map anywhere.

RACE NAME: Husks
RACE PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Standing anywhere from 1-2 meters tall, these figures are dark, blackened, like physical shadows. They have elongated limbs and lidless, white eyes- Lacking pupils or iris. Physically, they are rather weak comparative to the massive size their species possess, though they are capable of reaching speeds on par with a cheetah- And when running, have been known to crouch on all fours. They have large mouths that typically stay shut unless eating, as well as long, nail-like claws for cutting and carving prey. They are quiet- And rarely, if ever speak, relying on a subconscious hive mind to relay messages to other Husks within the local area.

They do not appear in the daylight- The sun burns their sensitive flesh- Causing them to hide mostly underground until night, when they come out to hunt and feast. Husks have Sexual monomorphism- With males and females having no known discernible traits to identify one from the other, due to the nature of reproduction.
POPULATION: 12
RACE BEHAVIOUR: Staying in small groups or in solitude, Husks live in relative silence among their 'communities', if one can even call them that. They are often near impossibly still, staring directly into small sources of light like flames and fire- Giving them the appearance of shadows on the ground or wall. During the day, they are extremely passive unless disturbed, and often can be found in caves simply staring at the flickering flames of a fire they made the night before, almost as a way of 'rest'.

At night, they have two separate modes of engagement- And turn lethally hostile to all forms of nearby life of appropriate size. Hunting mode refers to the time when Husks will hunt for sustenance- Going out in small packs or alone to hunt and consume the live flesh of animals or creatures. Collection mode is a time that happens seasonally- Where Husks will go out in groups to grab and collect unsuspecting people or life and pull them back into their caves. From there, these beings are subjected to a torturous, painful process of 'infection' where their bodies are morphed and formed into a Husk like the rest of the species. This is how they reproduce. Creatures found halfway through their torture have been found to be near lifeless husks of what they were before, often staring out into space as the infection spreads through their body- Hence the name Husk.
