Prologue

For ten years, war had engulfed the continent of Unira, permeating every last nook and cranny of the land. The aggressor, Emperor Lucius of the Volstanian Empire, found great success in the subjugation and destruction of the countries around him, and even when the remaining nations formed a coalition to combat the Volstanian forces, they found themselves being pushed further and further back. It was a futile war from an objective standpoint, but the cost of surrender that had been proposed by Lucius himself was far too high for the Tiarden Alliance to even consider that a course of action.

As the fighting dragged on and the Alliance was slowly picked apart, the nations who had banded together began to fall to despair. With all of their efforts being brought to naught and the Volstanian military slowly closing in, those who remained found themselves in dire straits. By this point, it was a given that they would die, regardless of whether or not they surrendered, and thus attempted to mount one last stand against their enemy.

This battle, which by all means should have ended with the destruction of the Tiarden Alliance, ended instead with a victory. Though the Volstanian forces were thus routed and forced to retreat, those who remained knew very well that the next assault would end in their defeat. To that end, the leaders of the Alliance decided to place their hopes in the future.

With the second assault over the horizon, those who stood out during the last battle—the heroes of the Alliance—were sealed away in a remote region of the land, in hopes that their return in the future would bring about the turnabout that they had desired. With the untested magic at its core, though, those who had been deemed 'heroes' would find themselves waking far later than the original heads of the Alliance had hoped.

Magic

Magic, as it is understood, works differently based on the method used to invoke it. To this end, there are two primary types of magic casting: external (circles, glyphs, etc.;) and internal (chants, incantations, etc.;). The method used, in essence, determines the source of mana, and thus its strengths and limitations. As a result of focused studies in regards to magecraft, however, advances have been made to the point where magic in either form can be regarded as a replacement for the development of firearms and other parallel technologies, which in turn has led to the creation of (somewhat limited) magitech. In other ways, however, both systems have been dissected in a manner similar to language and is often treated as such.

External magic draws from mana in its environment to cast, and is static in function once set in most cases. Circles, for example, will maintain their function so long as the inscribed systems are undamaged and will continue to perform once activated so long as they are not damaged. This is just as much of a downside as it is an upside, though, as they cannot be directly modified and can be canceled if something draws away the source of its power instead. In exchange, though, they are comparatively cost-efficient and occasionally stronger than their internal counterparts on the same scale. This also makes them quite reliable as enchantments, as they do not have to be consciously maintained by a user in turn.

Internal magic, in contrast, draws upon the mana of the user for activation. By nature, this makes them just as mobile as the caster if used to their utmost, and with proper training even the vocalization of magic can be omitted. That being said, synchronizing the magic alongside other users is far simpler than layering multiple external spells on top of one another, so it is generally preferred when executing more powerful spells.

So, I'm not going to go out of my way to hide that the world that the PCs will be returning to may have just gone through their fantasy equivalent of the Dark Ages with basically no Middle Eastern transcriptions to recover their knowledge from. The nations that the PCs have come from may or may not exist anymore, but the Volstanian Empire most certainly does, and all of the magical knowledge outlined above that the PCs should generally have...

Well, they're the last ones who have any degree of detailed understanding of those systems (and a lot of other things, possibly?) as far as they know.

Beyond that, though, Unira is in a state of comparative peace (if not mostly ignorance), and while a lot of the knowledge that had once been recorded has thus been lost and many of the intellectuals having long since passed on, much effort has been placed onto maintaining life in what one might otherwise consider a 'generic fantasy world'.

Yes, this means adventurers, monsters, and magic not on par to what would have otherwise been the norm for a few centuries' worth of time passing.

tl;dr: This is technically not an isekai, but also technically is. Also if you want to use, like, reverse Samurai Jack as a point of reference, you can. To a point. Yeah. Also expect the usual anime-esque power scaling; you know the deal.

(Also, I've taken inspiration from, like, seven or eight different series for this, so if the question is 'did you take inspiration from X series', the answer is probably 'yes'.)

Questions? Concerns? You know the deal. Here's a form.

Friendly thing to note: once this starts, no more people will be accepted. Please keep that in mind.

Can I please ask that you not use fonts that are difficult to parse? I'm having trouble even reading the name, and I fear people having to type that out.

  • Name: Sylphie Sorvost, commonly known as Death Angel Sylphie, Slaughter Princess Sylphie, Bloody Avenger Sylphie, and perhaps more flatteringly Princess of Victory Sylphie
  • Appearance: Sylphie is pale, with black hair. She has one gold eye as a symbol of her divinity, the other being red. Physically, she is a petite child of no more than nine or ten.
  • Age: 310
  • Race: Demigod(Human)
  • Abilities: As a demigod, Sylphie is immortal. While she can be killed by violence, she does not age, and her body is capable of recovering from grievous injury. Even lost limbs and organs can be regenerated. Additionally, she is far stronger and faster than her appearance would suggest, easily overpowering far larger individuals with considerable ease.
  • Skills: Sylphie possesses a surprisingly wide and in-depth knowledge of medicinal herbs and their use, though she rarely puts it into practice now as she feels there are others more suited to the job then herself.
  • Personality: Sylphie's personality can be described as somewhat arrogant. She believes quite firmly that there are an extreme few who can best her in combat, and she has the utmost confidence in her capability in battle. She is also relatively polite and talkative however, though she does enjoy teasing others and playfully mocking them whenever given the opportunity(she frequently feels she is given the opportunity). Fittingly due to her position as a Demigod under Aphei, Goddess of Righteous Victory, Sylphie also possesses a strong sense of justice. She does not tolerate threats to the innocent and will prioritize their protection(indeed, victory is not righteous if it allows for the deaths and sacrifice of innocent people). That being said, on the opposite end of Sylphie's strong sense of justice is her utterly remorseless killing of those deemed wicked. Those who commit evil acts or beings that possess an evil nature receive no mercy. Genuine repentence and remorse may stay her hand, but Sylphie serves a deity whose sphere also encompasses the Slaughter of the Wicked as well. Sylphie does indeed love combat, victorious combat where those who do evil deeds are cut down over and over again. The scent of the blood of the wicked almost seems to drive her into a frenzy, and the more the enemy perishes, the more she kills them, the closer she comes to victory, the more excited she becomes. Indeed, she enters a state that can only be described as ecstasy as she claims victory and slaughters those who do evil. This is both due to her nature as a demigod of Aphei and her own personality prior to her ascension.
  • History: Over three hundred years ago, Sylphie was a girl living in a small village with her younger sister and their parents. In training to become a healer, she learned much about medicinal herbs from her father, and soon became adept at recognizing which had the most potent effects. As she grew older, she developed a wide knowledge of such herbs, and was well on her way to becoming the town's foremost healer when she entered adulthood. But when she was still a child, her hometown came under attack by a raiding force that crushed the local guard, murdered Sylphie's parents, and took her, her sister, and many other children to be broken into slaves. It was a long time before she was able to do more then cry, but eventually she began to plot to take revenge on the raiders and free her sister and the other children. Convincing the raiders that she had already broken down, she became their favorite serving girl, allowing her to eventually access their mead. Using her knowledge of herbal medicine, she drugged the entire camp...
    And, one by one, killed them all with their own weapons. Methodically, without sparing a single life, she butchered each and every one of them in their sleep. She was covered in blood when she freed the other slaves, and after reaching the nearest town she decided to continue as she had been. To take revenge not only for her parents, but for the sake of all those who the raiders had hurt, to free those they had taken as slaves. She found two more camps after this, and repeated the same process. Drugging the invaders through their alcohol, killing them in their sleep, and freeing their prisoners. It was on the fourth time, however, that she was caught, and captured. Threatened with a fate far worse then death, Sylphie was unable to escape. All she could do was repeat a short prayer to Aphei, the Goddess of Righteous Victory and the Slaughter of the Wicked, that she had heard from her father once before.
    "May justice be done upon them, so that they might never harm another innocent soul."
    But then, she heard a voice in the back of her mind. Aphei had responded. She had been watching Sylphie, as she killed the raiders who were murdering and enslaving their way through the land.
    She offered Sylphie the chance to become a demigod. One of her Pillars. Sylphie accepted, and her body was flooded with divine power.
    Moments later, the entire camp of raiders had been destroyed, every single one laying dead and their prisoners freed. But she didn't stop there. Sylphie slaughtered the entire invasion force, killing her way through their armies until they were all either dead or fled. From that point onwards, Sylphie became a figure that punished the wicked for the sake of the innocent. Even during the more recent conflict with the Volstanian Empire, she served this purpose and was one of the heroes selected to be sealed and reawakened later...
  • Other: As a demigod, Sylphie is one of the Four Pillars of Aphei. As is customary for the gods in general, mortals are selected to serve as representatives, ascended to a state of demigodhood. In Aphei's case, these are her four Pillars. Sylphie is the Left Seat, also known as the Pillar of the East, reflecting Aphei's aspect as an avenger most strongly. The whereabouts of the other three Pillars are currently unknown...

Will finish up her abilities tomorrow and if you want anything changed I will do so this is sort of a pitch for my ideas for the whole demigod thing too. ^^;

'Aight, here we go.

Magic user as discussed.

Totally not cthulhu in disguise, nope. Hopefully didn't go too overboard.
...Actually not super satisfied with the history since I had to change a few things about the character mid-creation process.

Alright reworked it with 90% more Cthulhu

  • Abilities: As a demigod, Sylphie is immortal. While she can be killed by violence, she does not age, and her body is capable of recovering from grievous injury. Even lost limbs and organs can be regenerated, though severing all her limbs will incapacitate her and it is far easier for her to heal if they are simply reattached. She is immune to disease and poisons do not affect her(though she can still get drunk, and sometimes does in spite of her appearance). The most surefire way to kill her is completely destroying her head, as even decapitation is not necessarily a guarantee. Additionally, she is far stronger and faster than her appearance would suggest, easily overpowering far larger individuals with considerable ease. Key to her fighting style is Sylphie's ability to manifest a huge sword, longer than she is tall. It is considered the symbol of Aphei's Left Seat, the Avenging Blade that Slaughters the Wicked. It will never bend or break or lose its edge, and can freely be summoned and dispelled by Sylphie at will. It possesses the capacity to harm things with no physical form, cutting through spirits just as easily as it can cut through flesh, and is a divine weapon that burns demonic entities on contact. Sylphie can also freely call this weapon to her side if it is ever separated from her. She is also capable of sensing evil, detecting it just as easily as most people could smell a freshly-prepared meal. Sylphie can also perform magic, chiefly anti-evil wards(as well as protective wards in general) and offensive curses projected from the edge of her blade in the form of tightly-wound balls of mana. In that way, her sword also functions as a catalyst for spells. Sylphie can also serve as a guide to the afterlife for Aphei's faithful, though it is not her chief function. She is also revitalized and strengthened by shows of faith towards Aphei.
  • Skills: Sylphie possesses a surprisingly wide and in-depth knowledge of medicinal herbs and their use, though she rarely puts it into practice now as she feels there are others more suited to the job then herself. Beyond some very basic skills, Sylphie became a demigod at a young enough age so that she lacks many practical skills.
Aight, I'll accept people as their forms are declared complete.
That being said, I'll give feedback now while I'm approving forms.

@LunarisDaFox: Can I ask if you could maybe... Halve that age, at minimum? I think I'd actually prefer less than that (100-150), but otherwise, it's... A bit high, especially for a half-breed.

@WanderingSpirit: I actually really have nothing else to say; looks good so far.

@Ginnungagap: Mmm... We'll see. I'll probably divide the group if it gets too large, if it comes down to it.

@Crimson Paladin: Accepted.

@Rune_Alchemist: Also accepted.

@VitaVitaAR: Also accepted.

Oh, right, and here's mine.

@LunarisDaFox: All right, more to say even before you're done.

Alright, let's start with the elephant in the room: the character's got her rapist dad half-sealed away inside of her, and she's completely okay with it. Not only that, but despite an apparent seal (complete with absolute obedience), it looks like the old man's got all the powers from before (so the seal is, like, half useless).

Also, again, rapist dad. That does not jive well with the demigod of vengeance we have, who will absolutely annihilate them given the chance. Because, like... It's rape. You don't just forgive rape. Yeah, you exist because of that, but despite however many years pass, well... I mean, the deed is inherently taboo in pretty much every nation and scenario I can think of, so... Yeah.

On top of that, no limits for the summoning process itself, with capabilities that far outstrip that of... Most of the cast, I'd say? I don't think I like that. Also, Amaterasu lite without counterplay... Yeah, I'm not sure if I'd like designing encounters around that.

And, like, this is 'the strongest' one, so... There are more.
So she's a summoner with OP summons and then scaled that up way too hard. Yikes.

While we're on the topic of abilities, though, I'm not sure what relevance the second part of 'shadow smithing' has to the actual... Well, ability, I guess?

Next: I'd actually recommend (heavily recommend, in fact) that you run what you've written through some sort of word processor for spellcheck purposes. I caught about a few dozen individual spelling and grammatical errors that make it somewhat difficult to interpret what's being written, and cleaning up the legibility of your writing can go a long way in making it easier to convey the intent and direction of a given post.

That... Should be it? There was a lot to pick apart already, and I've finally had the time to just sit down and sift through it all. I'll chime in if there's more later.

Well, not really, but close enough.
There's one tidbit that seems a bit off:
Eventually, Malachi did take up arms for the Empire

I think it'd be 'against' here.

But, like, other than that weird hiccup, the character should be fine. Edit that, then accepted.
