This resulted in Emilia growing to be a sophisticated lady. Obviously educated and well-mannered, combine that with her royal connection and she has had many men running after her for her hand in marriage.

Despite the privileged life she has led, she inwardly longed for a more exciting life. Name: Maebh Brannagh

Nicknames/Titles: 'Maybe'; May

Age: 26

Gender: Female

Allegiance: Herself and her motley, small crew, They sail currently under the employ of France, though they fly Irish colors both out of pride and out of spite to the English.

Allegiance Faction: HMS Strumpet. The name of the ship is in jest, as they are not part of the navy and the namesake of the ship leads to all manner of jests and jeers come docking.

Role: Captain of the HMS Strumpet, a ship whose sole purpose is the sinking of pirate vessels.

Personality: Due to living life aboard ships and around men of ill repute, Maebh (that's May-vee) has picked up her share of ill traits, from a foul mouth to a love of drink. A firm believer in order, Maebh does things aboard her ship in a very strict manner, expecting her crew to know their roles and to be doing their tasks before she gives the command. Those who do not follow orders are punished to the brig, or, depending on the severity, tossed overboard or marooned; there is no use for the useless aboard the Strumpet.

Despite her strict nature in captaining a crew, Maebh is a woman who commands and delivers respect and loyalty, all those who sail with her are considered family. Unfortunately, Maebh is easily angered and her short-fuse and shorter temper have led to scrapes where otherwise there wouldn't be one. She has no love of pirates or the English and just seeing either flag is enough to ruin her mood considerably. Though possessed of a hatred, when attacking and/or boarding an enemy ship, Maebh is not without mercy, she'll never kill an entire crew, but she'll also never take one for her own crew. Negotiation, however, is always on the table - especially when the terms are in her favor..

With a fair amount of drink in her, Maebh cannot shut up, which is why when she drinks she does so in the comforts of her quarters so as not to reveal any secrets. Once ashore, she enjoys spending time in the taverns with other men and women of the sea, though the drunkards making passes has gotten old, as has the constant mispronunciation of her name. But to their defense, Maebh does have a heavy accent and the people in the tavern can barely sit down.

Enhanced Ability: Bullet Control. Maebh's weapons of choice are her two flintlock pistols, engraved with the initials of her father on the left pistol and her mother on the right pistol. Though useful at shooting from a reasonable distance, the reload can mean the difference between life and death in combat situations. Which is precisely why Maebh never seems to have to reload in the midst of battle. Always having just enough gunpowder and one more lead ball ready to fire, once the guns are pulled out, Maebh only has to reload once the skirmish is over. Though reloading is not an issue, the rate of fire is. Though skilled, Maebh isn't able to constantly unload bullets, she does have to continuously make the gun ready to fire, setting the hammer and the like. Her guns are susceptible to the same issues as others, misfiring, not igniting, and missing. Maebh removes the need to reload, but not the hassle of maintaining a weapon in mid-fight.

Biography: Maebh was born in a small village located in County Clare, Ireland. Her father earned an honest living as a fisherman, though that did keep him away from home for several days, often weeks, at a time. Life was rather quiet in the village, the most exciting thing that happened was the fishing boats departing and arriving, but it was a good place to raise a family. Her father was a supporter of certain political parties, most of which were highly outspoken about the English due to the past actions of the country and the looming threats. Picked up by osmosis, Maebh supported her father and his beliefs, not truly understanding them until she got older. Maebh often pestered her father to take her on a fishing trip. Maebh got her wish.

Unfortunately the boat ran into stormy waters and did not make it back to County Clare. Maebh and her father, along with some fortunate shiphands, made it to an island, though Maebh's father did not survive the following few days. Surviving on caught fish, Maebh and the surviving crew ran into a stroke of good luck. The island was a frequent stop for a pirate crew due to fruit that grew there naturally. Maebh and the crew were taken aboard the ship though not as crew. Maebh endured the harsh treatment and imprisonment until the ship was attacked by a British convoy acting in self defense. Maebh was rescued, though didn't wish to be indebted to the British and after traveling with the British crew to land, she fled under cover of night.

Maebh cut her hair and found work aboard a merchant ship before eventually finding a place as a privateer for the Spanish. It was during this period where Maebh struck out on her own, rallying some of the other crew members to mutiny and take the ship as their own. Problems arose when it came to who should captain the new ship, though Maebh proved she was more than capable after silencing some of the dissenters with a good punch in the jaw. Maebh eventually raised a crew consisting of people with no love of pirates and they struck out onto the seas, hunting pirates and making themselves infamous due to it. They carry letters of marque from France so they can say they are acting as privateers, though in truth Maebh and crew are just pirates whose targets happen to be other pirates. Not in it for reward, just for the fun of it and the satisfaction of making the oceans a safer place for those who make a more honest living.

Maebh's reputation as a pirate hunter has earned her some note, but what tales are told about her stem from her temper and her difficult to pronounce name. The story around some ships is that when the ship with Irish flags is around, there Maebh trouble or there maybe won't be.

Maebh absolutely hates that story.

Likes: Ireland, spirits and drink, fresh fruit, the shanty Blood Red Roses which all crew members are required to sing.

Dislikes: Pirates, The Royal English Navy, staying ashore for too long, drunken seamen and their drunken hollerin' and caterwauling.

Family: Her mother, Aoife. The crew of the Strumpet.

Weapons: Two flintlock pistols. She carries a cutlass but is so poor with it that she's better off using her fists if it comes to it.

Miscellaneous: Maebh is actually poor at navigation, leaving such things to her quartermaster.

Name: Alexander Van Rooiakker

Nicknames/Titles: Alex / Red / Havoc / Volition (Official codename)

Age: 25

Gender: Male

Allegiance: The Dutch Republic

Allegiance Faction: The Federal Government (Unofficially)

Role: Agent (Spy, Saboteur and Assassin rolled into one)

Personality: Friendly, personable and always quick with a joke or witticism, Alexander is a hard person to dislike. He frequents the various bars found on the islands of the Caribbean, always with coin in his pocket and eager to buy his new acquaintances a round of drinks or perhaps even a night with a prostitute. To many, he is just another rich young man trying to make it big in the new world, and quite obviously out of his depth and out of his mind. It is thus no surprise that very few people see him as a threat.

However, all this belies Alexander's true nature. As an agent of the Dutch Republic, his role is to gather information on the various factions in the new world and if necessary, engage in direct action to safeguard the interests of the republic. The Federal Government gives him a monthly allowance to spend as he sees fit and Alexander certainly does so. The drinks help to lower a person's defenses and makes them more willing to talk; the prostitutes had been paid beforehand to ask just the right questions in order to get the information Alexander needed.

He is a dangerously smart individual; he needs to be, given as how while he works for the Federal Government, they have effectively disowned him. If he gets in trouble, there would be no help on the way to bail him out. However, despite knowing the risks of his job, he still manages to keep himself calm at all times and always seems to be in control, regardless of the situation. His silver tongue can often talk circles around most people, and where that would not work, he can always issue threats that are never empty.

Due to the War of Spanish Succession, he has a strong hatred for the French.

Enhanced Ability: Dragoon. Served in the Royal Dutch Army as a mounted infantryman and thus was trained to fight equally well with the musket and sword. Due to their role as a screening force for the main army and thus tasked with harassing enemy formations, Alexander didn't need to just be able to fire fast, he needed to fire accurately in order to consistently kill the drummers, buglers or officers. As such, Alexander is extraordinarily fast when it comes to reloading firearms and can reliably hit targets with a degree of accuracy that is higher than normal. He is also able to hold his own when using the sword.

Needless to say, Alexander is also quite comfortable around horses and can ride one exceptionally well. Though as he puts it, 'it is as useful as a nun in a brothel'.

Biography: Alexander was born in the County of Zeeland to a modest, working-class family, the second-eldest among three brothers. His father, a private gunsmith who crafted firearms for hunters, taught Alexander and his brothers the tricks of the trade from an early age, starting with the basics of building and maintaining a firearm. By the time he was ten, Alexander was capable enough to carry out minor repairs without the supervision of his father. A year later, and he was out hunting along with his brothers, using the same rifles and muskets they had been built from scratch.

When war came in the form of the War of Spanish Succession, Alexander and his brothers did not hesitate to sign up with the army despite the fact that their ages ranged between fourteen and sixteen. After all, the Spanish still held parts of the Netherlands and it was their duty as patriotic Dutchmen to reunite it with the republic. With their already-impressive gunnery skills, they were assigned to a Light Dragoon regiment. Alexander's parents had sent them off with their blessings, and all had expected the war to be a short one. They would kick the Spanish out of their land, fend off the French with British help and be back home in time for Christmas.

However, the war proved to be anything but short. Alexander and his brothers served in several small skirmished which never built up to the huge, wide-scale battle they had been hoping for. It was always just them riding in, firing a few shots into the enemy scouts and watching them flee. It was not until a few years into the war did they get their first taste of battle. At the Battle of Ramilies, Alexander's regiment performed more than just scouting duties. They flanked the enemies, firing at them from various directions to confuse them. It all went well, but then Alexander and his brothers got overconfident and broke formation in an attempt to silence the enemy cannons.

They ran straight into an enemy reserve regiment that was being moved to the front. Alexander managed to break away at the last minute, but his brothers were killed instantly when the regiment stopped and opened fire. Alexander himself was dehorsed when his steed was killed by a stray bullet. Thankfully, he was picked up by a British cavalryman who had also been separated from the rest of his regiment in the chaos.

After the war, Alexander returned to Zeeland, only to find that his home village had been razed by a French advance guard that had broke through the Anglo-Dutch lines. He had no idea what had happened to his family, but the rumours he heard told him that his father and mother had been executed by the French for supplying firearms to the rebels. It was all just rumours, but that still added fuel to the burning hatred Alexander felt for the French. He returned to the army, half-expecting to be assigned to another dragoon regiment, but was pleasantly surprised when he heard that he was to be sent to the New World for 'special duties'.

The Government had known of Alexander, the death of his brothers and the destruction of his village and accurately guessed that he would have a hatred for the French that knew no rivals. Rather than punishing him, it was decided that he would be of more use in the New World, where he could help the Government gather information on both the British and French. After all, the Dutch were seen as the neutral party in the New World. Between the French, Spanish and British jockeying for dominance, a lone Dutchman could slip through the cracks and back out with valuable information. Besides, there was very little to tie Alexander to the Government, so if he got caught and executed, it would be of no harm for the Dutch Republic.

While in the Caribbean, he poses as an adventurer, explorer and gun-for-hire. It is a cover that works well; someone wanting to make a new life for themselves was not a rare sight in the new world. What made Alexander stand out, however, was his absolute ruthlessness when it came to fighting. His alias, 'Havoc', came from a story which stated that he had once managed to clear an entire deck of pirates on his own.

When asked, Alexander simply smiles and neither confirms nor denies the story.

Likes: Exploring, spying, anything that hurts the French State.

Dislikes: The French Army, the French Government, Tobacco

Family: None. All died during the War of Spanish Succession, either through combat or getting caught in the crossfire.

Weapons:
- Carries four pistols. Two holstered at his hip, two on his lower back
- One carbine, usually strapped diagonally across his back
- Sword sheathed at his hip (Uses a dual sheath to allow him to have both a sword and pistol on the same side)
- Dagger sheathed in boot for more discreet kills.

Miscellaneous: He receives his money from the Dutch Government from various anonymous contacts, most of them working for the Royal Dutch Navy.

Tyraxor Craghack, an outlandish slender man raised on the tumultuous currents of the sea. He knows no home port. Rumors around the local pub would lead some to believe that he was born of the sea, a manifestation of god himself. Of course, the only thing true about his relationship with the sea is that it was the sea that made him. As the tale goes, the young lad found a spot in the crow’s nest amongst the crew of the Tempest’s Edge serving under a most feared pirate captain. Perhaps only a few mortal men know how he ended up on the ship of Bertrand “the Gargantuan” Grimli. Fewer still will ever hear it out of Tyraxor’s own lips. It is said that on one stormy night, the ship held steadfast as the mighty waves crashed over the bow and a dense fog enshrouded the sails. Beneath the veil that enshrouded the ship, while the pirates managed the riggings and lashed the cannons a shadow scaled the stern and wandered into the captain’s quarters. After the storm had passed, Captain Grimli sought refuge in his cabin. It would be the last anyone had ever seen of him. Some say he was swallowed by the sea. Others think it was mutiny. But the only thing anyone can say for sure is that Captain Craghack would come to stand at the helm and take the wheel. Captain Craghack was known for two things, his fiery red beard and his brutal domination of the sea. From England and Africa to the new world, Captain Craghack ravaged the coast without discrimination. Little concern did he have for the well-being of others when fame and fortune were involved. Survival meant not only taming the unpredictable chaos of the sea but also learning how to outmaneuver enemy ships. While perhaps he was not the first, Firebeard was known to fly the flags of his enemies. More often than not, the enemy ship was boarded before they even realized it was too late. Of course, not even the swashbuckling pirate can avoid fate forever or in this case, a small horde of mercenaries looking to make quite a bit of coin. The Tempest’s Edge was lost at sea, sunk off the coast of the local village. After that infamous day no on was sure what happened to old Tyraxor Craghack. Most would say he went down with his ship as a great captain should. Some say he is not dead at all but undead, cursed to haunt the seas he terrorized, looking for a ship to call his own. But other say still that Tyraxor Craghack is still very much alive, haunting the taverns of the local village in a constant state of inebriation. One thing is for sure, even if the ‘morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall his return.

Name: Tyraxor Craghack
Nicknames/Titles: (Not required) Cap’n Firebeard, Firebeard
Age: 26 years
Gender: Male
Allegiance: Pirate
Allegiance Faction: Tyraxor holds allegiance to no one other than himself despite how he may sail under another's flag.
Role: Previously a Captain, currently a mercenary pirate for hire.
Personality: Tyraxor “Firebeard” Craghack is a malefactor. He does whatever he can get away with. Craghack is out for himself, pure and simple. He sheds no tears for those he kills, whether for profit, sport, or convenience. Tyraxor has no love for order and holds no illusions that following laws, traditions, or codes would make him any better or nobler. On the other hand, he does not have the restless nature or love of conflict that a chaotic villain has. Craghack is still very much a pirate, who robs and murders to get what he wants. He is not pious. If Tyraxor worshipped any greater power it would be the ocean as an entity. However, as most men in his company throughout his life have believed in the lord, he cannot help but be influenced to a certain extent. Craghack has come to believe that everything is interconnected and cyclical. He acknowledges change but holds true to his essential nature. Tyraxor does not try to be what he is not but excels at what he is and carries his message of personal excellence to the world. He is flexible but not unreasonable. Craghack fully believes that the mysteries of life are to be enjoyed and puzzled over, but realizes that some answers do not come in this world, but rather the next. Of course, he may know this first hand. Most importantly he realizes that the cycles of life are mirrored by the circles of fate. Tyraxor is prepared to, but perhaps he has already paid the price and reaped the rewards for the actions of his past and future.
Enhanced Ability: As a pirate, Tyraxor hosts no particular enhanced ability. However, the pirate does have perhaps a reputation that provides for most to see him in a most alarming not. As he has not gone down with his ship but that of a stolen from another pirate, the ship once belonging to Captain Bertrand “the gargantuan” Grimli, the good lord has spared his life. With that being said, the rumors of Tyraxor's existence is that he is in fact not living but a member of living dead. Strangely enough, Firebeard has been known to regular evade the clutches of death time and time again whether by skill or dumb luck further perpetuating the concept that he lives a life in an undead state.
Biography: The history of Tyraxor Craghack’s life is shrouded in mystery and mottled with inaccuracies and embellishments. Many jokes that not even Craghack himself is sure of what is true about his life. However, as the story goes this fear pirate is the child of sailing merchants. As far as the truth goes the only thing one can be sure of was that he was born on the sea. Before he reached the age of ten, Tyraxor would find a place behind Captain Bertrand the Gargantuan aboard the Tempest’s Edge. He would survive by his own wits and the advice of those pirates who would care to share. Bertrand would come to take up the role of his father, and his mother the sea. As for any legitimate accounts of his family history, they were probably sunken alongside his parents by the hands of Captain Grimli.
Likes: Coin, Rum, and Wenches.
Dislikes: Cowards, the Proper Authorities, Sobriety
Family: Tyraxor hails from a family of merchants that traveled the coastal waters of many continents gathering goods to sell for profit.
Weapons: A set of four flintlock pistols, a rapier and a dagger.
Miscellaneous (Appearance): Tyraxor is but a simple man, a shell of his former self. But his most abhorrent feature that of which provides his namesake is the hair that covers his face. A lush beard of a brazen reddish-orange, dangling beneath his jawline in three thick braids. Each braid ended with a warping of dingy white cloth and tied to a small loop of gold. His jawline is broad and square, with a silver-tongue and yellow teeth hidden behind the slender lips of a great maw. A round, bulbous nose crooked to one side centers his face between acne scarred cheeks. On either side of his head, Craghack’s ears are pierced many times with loops of silver and gold. Beneath two bushy eyebrows, Firebeard stares deep into a person’s soul with unsavory yellow eyes. He bears no hat upon his head, an oddity for most pirates. Instead, his head is shaved on either side with a single, braided strand of thick hair that runs down the center of his scale ending just between his shoulder blades.

His garb is as simple as it is dirty. Hard soled leather boots climb up his legs meeting blood stained leather breeches half-way between the ankle and knee. His chest is covered by a dingy button up shirt that at one point may have been white. Tyraxor protects his body with a suit of studded leather armor. The armor is made from tough but flexible leather reinforced with close-set metal rivets. However, it is not one solid suit but consists of a cuirass, a set of bracers, greaves, and separate pieces to protect the other thighs and biceps but still leaving him flexible and agile. All of this is hidden more often than not. Draped over his slender frame is a full length tattered pea coat as dark as the moonless sky.

Of course, Tyraxor is not without any form of real protection. Across his chest are two leather holster, home to two flintlock pistol with an ivory stock covered in a mundane ebony design with a barrel composed of hardened iron. Two more can be found in holsters on his belt. On a sturdy leather belt wrapped around his waist are two blades. First, about the small of his back is a parrying dagger which is something of a necessary component in any swashbuckler’s arsenal of weapons. But Craghack’s most deadly weapon is the basket hilted rapier dangling on his hip, situated for the perfect cross draw attack upon withdrawal.

Miscellaneous (Other): Tyraxor remembers nothing of his life before the Tempest Edge was scuttled as if born when his body washed up on the shore of the local village.

Name: Bran Lamar
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Allegiance: Only himself, and his crew, what he says goes.
Allegiance Faction: The name of his ship, a Frigate, Is the 'Seas Howl', His ship hoists the color of the Jolly Roger, however, its little more than making a statement than he is an actual pirate.
Role: Captain

Personality: Bran has spent most of his life around ships since his father was a dockworker, which lead to a few less desirable habits. He loves his Rum (What pirate doesn't love rum.) and is probably one of the best drinkers around. Some would call him reckless as he never backs down from a fight, though he doesn't go looking for them. He doesn't take life seriously, and for the most part isn't that strict when it comes to life aboard his ship, and neither does his crew. They're free to pretty much do what they want in down time, except drink. They are expected to either be sober while on his ship, or they'll be locked in the brig until their sober and prevented from having rum for a minimum of one week, even while docked. Otherwise, they are allowed to sing shanties, and otherwise do anything that they would consider fun, so long as it does not inhibit the over all functioning of the ship. He knows the name of every man and woman on his ship and considers them his friend, and would do anything to protect them as any good captain should, and they would do the same for him if they had too.

That being said, do not mistake his laxness for a lack of training and do not mistake his crew for an easy target, if you do, you just signed your death wish. His men are smart, and trained well and often know what to do without being given an order unless its in an extreme situation. He knows when to be serious about something and when not to be. They often spar with each other if they're not sailing and he makes sure they get in at least three practice sessions each week, sometimes more depending if they're in port for awhile or not. Even on the open sea when anchored, he makes sure they're abilities are up to snuff. Afterwards, there's usually a party involving a lot of rum. Of course, there's always a lot of rum involved on his ship.

Bran is generally merciful when it comes to dealings with a ships crew after he defeats them, usually giving them the option of joining his merry band of pirates or simply taking their gold and other valuables, and leaving them with just enough food and other things to survive. Lately though, the Pirate game has become...stale. It was fun when he started all those years ago, but recently he feels as though he should be looking for a career change. He's thinking about just targeting Slave Vessels now.

He's slow to anger, and is friendly to most, even to his enemies. However, he absolutely loathes slavers, and will almost always kill them without any negotiation, and if he sees a slave ship, he attacks it without hesitation. He's gained quite a bit of a reputation among the Slavers that he's not someone you should mess with. They're none to happy about that, and have put quite a price on his head.

Enhanced Ability: Sight and Hearing. Brans' sight and hearing have been honed to a point of being able to hear a pen drop in a crowded street, or a whisper in a tavern. His sight can tell whats happening on a deck of a ship miles away. It does wonders for staying out of them and not falling into an ambush of sorts, and since he pilots his own ship, he's a pro at steering it. Also has almost perfect accuracy with any musket or rifle.

Biography: Bran was born in London to a French father and a Irish mother. He had a somewhat hard life growing up in the slums. His father was a dockworker, and his mother was hardly a mother to him at all. She drank all day and usually got in trouble with the authorities. It was unsurprising when she upped and left one day, never to return. His father didn't seem particularly upset about it though, and when asked, all he would say is that he expected her to leave years ago. He didn't understand what he meant at the time, he was too busy being angry with her for leaving.

A few years passed and his father decided to return to France on the promise of a new job opportunity, at least that's what he told him. Bran, not liking being left behind or being told what to do sneaked onto the ship that his father allegedly booked passage on. Unfortunately, the new job opportunity turned out to be a privateer contract. Needless to say, the ship was destroyed and his father was killed in the process. Bran and the rest of the crew were taken captive. One by one, the captain of the pirate ship killed them for amusement, until one night Bran formed a plan of escape.

By dawn of the next day, he had freed him and his crew members from the brig and had taken over the ship. The captain and any crew still loyal to said captain was marooned on an island, and Bran took the responsibility of being captain himself, and thankfully there were few arguments. From there, he renamed the ship, flew the Jolly Roger, and became a pirate.

Over the years, he was a fairly successful pirate. While he didn't have an infamous reputation like some of the others, that was the way he liked it. He didn't want to be infamous, too much trouble in dealing with pirate hunters and the Law. And there was the whole 'death by hanging' thing. He likes living.

Name: Acacia

Age: 20
Gender: Female
Allegiance: Pirate
Allegiance Faction: To the ship, The Seas Howl
Role: First Mate

Personality: Like Bran she thinks of everyone on the ship as a friend, though she doesn't show it as much, but thats where the similarities end. Unlike Bran, she's strict, stern, and is one mean lady you do not want to piss off. She makes sure the ship is running smoothly if Bran is not aboard, ashore, or otherwise unable to command the ship. While her methods may be different, the crew respects her just as much. She's serious about most things, and often doesn't take lightly to joking around. As such, she has a love hate relation with Bran. Still, she trusts him with her life, and would gladly do anything for him even if she bitches about it.

She shares Bran's hate for slavers, Simply because she was almost sold as a slave herself and would not wish that treatment on any other human being.

Enhanced Ability: Her talent is simply stealth, being able to move unseen even in the heat of battle. She's agile, quick, and has amazing parkour skills, often climbing to the top of the masts before a boarding occurs, to get an easier, more stealthier approach on the opponents ship to allow her to take out the captain easier, and if she can, prevent him from giving sufficient orders to promote a counter attack.

Biography: Acacia never really knew her parents, only having vague memories of her mother. She lived on the streets of France from day one as far as she was concerned, and might as well have been born on them. From early in her life she learned how to handle herself, including how to fight with swords. She was a thief by trade, and unfortunately she ended up stealing from the wrong man. She stole some gold coins from a pirate who was docked, thinking it'd make her a good bit of money. Well, the pirate caught up with her and decided some punishment was in order. He was a slave merchant in the Caribbean and decided no one would miss a little homeless girl.

After a few weeks aboard the ship, it came under fire from Brans ship. The slaver crew was dispatched quickly, the captain and any crew on the ship was killed, and Bran set the slaves free. Acacia though, decided to stick around with Bran instead of leaving at the first port. Bran decided he would take her in, and make a fine pirate out of her. He taught her how to sail, fire and load a gun, and how to fight like a pirate and everything else that she would need to know for a life on the sea.

Likes: Bran, Rum, drinking, fighting, giving orders, being bossy.
Dislikes: Bran, Taking orders, traitors, people not doing what their told, idiots.
Weapons: Two sabers at her sides, four flintlocks - Two on her sides, and two in a holster on her chest, and a few throwing knives.

Name: Cyril Bernard
Nicknames/Titles: La Serpiente
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Allegiance: Pirates
Allegiance Faction: The Siren
Role: Captain of The Siren
Enhanced Ability: Depth Perception

Personality:
Much like a cunning snake, Cyril is a very observant man. While he may seem aloof and uncaring, he is always poised to deal a death blow. He manipulates people for the benefit of himself and/or his ship. Cyril can coolly and easily lie, making it impossible for others to understand his own shallow emotions. However, he is a very responsible man, making sure that his crews needs are well-met.

Biography:
Cyril really has no recollections of his past, nor does he want to know his past. All he really remembers is wandering around the ports of Britain, serving as a cabin boy in his teenage years. He has lived out on various ships for most of his life, experiencing many conflicts in his time. Although there is no proof, the previous Captain of the Siren mysteriously died, leaving Cyril as the first mate to take up the position.

Name: Tate Merritt-Lynwood

Age: 23

Gender: Female

Allegiance: The British Crown

Allegiance Faction: The Royal Navy

Role: Junior post-captain, tactician and member of staff of the British West Indies station

Personality: The best word that can describe Tate is… “stoic.” She has an unflinchingly calm demeanor, often betraying no emotion in even the most dire of situations. She is a master of masking emotion, and is not somebody you’d like to play poker with.

Her stoicism is not a trait that she was born with. Tate values security above all else, and in this regard her behavior can be seen as a defense mechanism against letting slip undesirable comments or reactions that would lead her to feel insecure.

It is this security complex that drives her interest in strategies and tactics. If through careful reasoning she knows as a certainty all the outcomes of an action or lack thereof, there would be little reason for her to worry. If there is a fluke in a plan or situation, Tate would always have a backup of a backup- she would have a contingency plan thought out for nearly everything days in advance.

The feeling of being in control is something she strives nothing less for, and being in a leadership role comes naturally to her. While this is the case, she is hardly an inspiring leader; her strength comes not from charisma, but the reassurance of absolute certainty.

Although these qualities make her appear tomboyish and self-centered, she can be endearing and kind in her own unique sort of way. While she keeps a professional distance among most, she is not afraid to get intimate with trustworthy and wholesome individuals.

Enhanced Ability: Perception and critical awareness. Tate’s talent is her ability to quickly take note of everything around her and make sense of the situation. For example, in a hypothetical engagement with an enemy, she would be likely to hold the weather gauge, or at the very minimum prevent the enemy from possessing it and obtaining a significantly advantageous position against her.

Biography:
Tate was born to the distinguished Merritt-Lynwood family, a house of minor nobility in Britain. Her family had deep roots in naval lineage; her father was Viscount Neville Merritt-Lynwood, a retired but distinguished vice admiral of the Royal Navy, and his father and the father of his father were both successful captains of a frigate and a ship-of-the-line, respectively. Tate was the second-youngest out of four children, with an elder brother and sister, and a younger sister. As the middle child of four children, she initially received little attention from her parents until it was realized that their only son and Tate’s elder brother was a wholly incompetent seaman that would never make it past the rank of midshipman. At age ten, Tate witnessed her brother return home a disgraced man that had lost his commission in the Royal Navy.

This did not sit well with her father. Furious, her brother was kicked out of the household and disowned. He spent months spiraling into despair at the besmirching of the family name and began to drink heavily to drown his sorrows, often taking out his anger on his own family, for there was nobody else to take the mantle. Being only ten and with her family falling apart all around her, Tate shut herself in the family library and turned to books as an escape. It was because of this that her father discovered her by chance reading a book on naval tactics during one of his usual tirades. Something finally clicked in his head; there [is]was[/s] somebody competent and motivated enough to carry the family tradition after all. Finally coming to terms with the situation, he offered to take Tate under his wing as his protégée, no matter the social barriers it would take to get her into the Navy, a proposal that she gladly accepted.

Against odds (and with lots of ‘donation’ money), Tate was made midshipman at age 14 and served on the HMS Magnificent for a little under a year. She took and failed the lieutenant examination a year later, but was able to pass and was promoted to lieutenant the year after, a feat for somebody at that age. The examination marked her last post to a ship in several years, as she was appointed to a post at the Admiralty as an assistant to a Sea Lord, where her abilities would be best suited. At the admiralty, she aided in court-martial investigations and provided advice, where she gained her reputation for her cool demeanor and hard work.

Her post at the admiralty was a prosperous one, and she was promoted to commander and offered a command of a small frigate, which she declined in favor of continuing work in London. It was not until she was 22 and was promoted to post-captain that she resigned her post at the Admiralty and was offered a post as a member of staff for the Admiral of the British West Indies, where the British garrison continued to be plagued by the constant threat of pirates and privateers. Finding it an interesting situation to try and help solve, she accepted the commission, boarding the HMS Lyme, a 28-gun frigate bound for the Caribbean station. It never made it to its destination.

Likes: Trustworthy individuals, honor, tea, good food, chess, reading, theorycrafting

Dislikes: Pirates, cramped quarters, loud noises, disrespect

Family:
Neville Merritt-Lynwood, 1st Viscount Lynwood, father
Marie Merritt-Lynwood, mother
Henry Merritt-Lynwood, brother
Luce Merritt-Lynwood, sister
Clare Cavendish, sister

Weapons: Tate wields a smallsword, a lightweight blade not dissimilar from a rapier, made to parry the very model it was designed from. Her particular sword is silver-hilted with an intricate embossed design.
