Antiparticles are essentially the equivalent of their matter counterparts, other than the fact that they move in patterns and waves opposite to regular matter. As such, antiparticles annihilate their particle alternatives, releasing extreme levels of energy, as well as photons. Photons also happen to be their own antiparticle.
