Guide for Creating a Servant

STEP ONE:
* Every Servant has done something. No-one gets in by mere dint of existing as a ruler, or being quietly assassinated whilst ruling a vast swathe of land. Such a person would have no Noble Phantasm, no Personal Skills. Boring, in other words.
* Avoid the Book of Genesis. In fact, try and stay away from Creation Myths in general. The issue with them (where people are involved) can be summed up in one word: Gilgamesh. We know that he's the Oldest King (it's one of his titles) and we know that he has the originals of nigh on everything. Biblical myths are even worse (Gilgamesh, in his own lifetime, met Utnapishtim, and Utnapishtim and Noah cannot coexist, unravelling things backwards). It would require a lot of work, and result in a Servant that cannot physically possess anything that would have spawned from that treasury.
* Ensure they're sufficiently human to start with. Medusa is a Divine Spirit turned monster, and is pretty much as inhuman as you're going to get, regardless of how she looks. At no point should outright deities or things like Cerberus be summoned, they just don't make sense as Heroic Spirits.

STEP TWO:
* Berserker is named such for berserk rage. Not for a short temper, for going berserk in battle. Lancelot had a huge body count and killed his friend's brothers out of desperation, Heracles kept flipping and killing things, part of Lancer's myth is all about how he was a berserker.
* Match the class to their skills in life. Failing an exact match, fudge things a little. Just don't expect them to be the best Saber ever if they didn't fit to start with.

STEP THREE:
* Stats match deeds. Those who have no notably awesome feats of strength would not have abnormal strength for their class. Assassin should not be going around smashing the scenery with near misses unless you've gained Heracles.
* Compare with the various strongest Servants. Saber with Rin's stats, Gilgamesh as summoned by Tokiomi, and Heracles. Use common sense: if the character summoned is, say, Boudicca, there is no reason that she would be as physically able as them. One is 2/3 demigod and one of the oldest heroes, one is pretty much the most accomplished hero ever, and the third makes up for any physical deficits with Prana Burst and nigh infinite mana. More mundane medieval knights should be relying on guile against heroes from the Age of Gods, not overpowering them.

STEP FOUR:
* Class skills: easy. Magic Resistance B if they've dealt with it in life, A if they've got another reason for immunity. Presence Concealment A+ for those who're never found.
* Skill Number: Lancer has 4, minus Divinity (which is best discounted for these things, as it does... nothing). One is an A-rank. 5 A-ranked skills is too far.
* Skill Rank: Iskander, for all that his onward conquest was forced to a halt by his soldiers' lack of desire to continue and his later ability to summon them as a Servant, has Military Tactics B. Military Tactics A would need something amazing. Keep these in mind.
* Eye of the Mind (False) is natural intuition to overcome handicaps, (True) is planning and analysis. One is innate, the other is learned from initial skill amplified by experience. Instinct seems to be a lesser form of Eye of the Mind (False). Make sure to pick the right one: Achilles, for all his martial brilliance, would be more likely to have (False) or Instinct, he hardly lived through enough battles to pick up (True).
* MAKE THINGS UP. So, you want a guerilla tactics ability? Write one, don't combine disengage and presence concealment. Not only does it prevent broad, easily abused combinations, it gives a Servant some distinctiveness. Just remember to limit it.
* Don't copy other Servants' signature abilities without really good reason. Especially things such as Golden Rule, where the A-rank is closely intertwined with Gate of Babylon.

STEP FIVE:
* Basic term overview: anti-unit will only hurt one person, anti-army will always damage anyone caught nearby, anti-fortress is certain to devastate your surroundings. These are statements of area of effect. Power of a Noble Phantasm is given by rank, not type.
* Think very, very carefully about giving anything an EX-Rank. Canonical EX-rank stuff is essentially 'I win'. If you do give a character something like this, try and make it because it's unrankable due to not qualifying as a normal Noble Phantasm than overwhelming power.
* Almost every Noble Phantasm has some physical component, however minor. God Hand and Cybele are built into their users' bodies, Blood Fort Andromeda has its basis as magecraft. The exceptions? Reality Marbles, which are vanishingly rare (one requires the willpower of thousands of Servants, the other stems from having Avalon shoved in his chest for ten years, and the possible third is also 'summon theatre') and more strongly tied to Dead Apostle Ancestors than anything else (well, Crimson Moon, but it's a minor quibble)

STEP SIX:
* Always go for the simplest option first: check out techniques or items. Upgrade, rank, and designate an area as appropriate.
* Second option is to pair with deeds and give something that embodies them. Flying Lightning Chariot from cutting the knot? Well, the chariot existed, and the bulls attached were dedicated to Zeus. To take a quick example: Julius Caesar, crossing the Rubicon. A Noble Phantasm represented by his gladius, it embodies refusing to dissolve his armies and therefore passing the point of no return. Remove any negative penalties to his statistics and temporarily grant Battle Continuation A. If the fight results in a draw, Caesar still dies.
* Count them carefully. Excepting Gilgamesh, whose Noble Phantasm is to own Noble Phantasms (and Zealot, who was a joke), the most possessed... is five, and some of those are highly situational (Perseus). Next up is Medusa, who effectively has four, one of which is her very body, plus a Noble Phantasm-level ability to summon Pegasus. Three is the normal maximum.
* Link to their past. If in doubt, fudge history.
* NO FULL-STRENGTH SERVANT SUMMONING, EVER. No summoning near-Servant level armies, either. The power to massively multiply your power falls under the 'careful with EX-ranks' thing.

STEP SEVEN:
* Read through at the end and check how your abilities combine. Individual elements can add up to unavoidable combos. An ability that is immensely powerful only if used at the beginning of a fight, ranks in Disengage (which resets things to initial conditions), and A or A+ ranked Agility form a broken combination.
* A similar sort of situation goes for being immune to classes of Noble Phantasms (such as anti-army) but having the perfect skill-set for dealing with anti-unit attacks.
* External conditions that aren't limitations. Only works at nighttime? Sums up the conditions for normal Grail Wars. Requires a city? How many Grail Wars don't happen in one? If the only balancing on an item are the limitations, make sure the limitations aren't casually fulfilled.
* No True Magic. Ever. Medea is honestly dangerous enough without getting to that level. True Magic leads to the same problems as EX-Ranked Noble Phantasms: it has been known to kill the moon and... summon Servants. Even a flawed copy of the Second Magic can OHKO Servants without pause for recovery.

STEP EIGHT:
* Though tantalising, evidence has shown no Servant summoned in armour will have a chainmail bikini. They have actual armour.
* Huge breasts on an athletic warrior are just nonsensical. They're mostly fat. Somewhere here, logic fails.
* A+ ranked strength on feminine children is also a problem.
* In short: keep it appropriate.

Personality: Caster has a difficulty talking with people. Aside from her Master, she is timid around human beings. However, nonhumans(including other Servants) will be encountered with a girl who is something of a blabbermouth, releasing everything that she is too shy to say to humans in a semi-coherent stream of consciousness. She is even more willing to converse with the demonic entities she summons. She is heavily attached to a doll she refers to as Gretchen and will be upset by any attempts to take it away. Caster enjoys collecting stuffed animals, the weirder the better. But still huggable.
Appearance: Caster has platinum blonde hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. Her dress is red and black. The doll's colors are below.

Demon Summoning: A+++
Capable of summoning any kind of demon aside from True Devils, and harnessing them to do the Servant's bidding. Given that summoned demons are not magic, this allows the Servant to bypass magic resistance. Demons operate more competently and more powerfully based on their complexity. The longer it takes for the Servant to summon a demon, the more powerful and complex they will be. This is because the Servant "designs" the form of a demon as she summons them, as demons are naturally formless creatures. At maximum complexity, a demon summoned by the Servant is quite capable of harming Servants. However, it is far more easy to kill then a Servant. Lower levels of complexity, while dangerous, are little more then cannon fodder for most Servants even if they are capable of dealing damage.

Noble Phantasms
Name: Mephistopheles
Title: The Night of Wallachia
Rank: C
Type: Anti-Army
Description: The fabled presence that Caster summoned in life, Mephistopheles is a dark, formless entity. By invoking its name, Caster can summon Mephistopheles to materialize the fears of her opponent. While she believes it to be a demon(and holds no love for it, unlike other entities she summons), Mephistopheles is actually the 13th Dead Apostle Ancestor, the Night of Wallachia. The fears it materializes will attack those who they were materialized from relentlessly, until they are killed or they kill their target. However, they are not extraordinarily powerful, and are very capable of being killed. Mephistopheles is capable of targeting hundreds at once. Caster deeply dislikes the idea of summoning Mephistopheles, and would restrict his abilities to only a few targets if summoned.

Title: The Pure Maiden

Type: Anti-Unit
Description: Gretchen was Caster's closest friend in life. The Noble Phantasm transforms Caster's Gretchen doll into the real girl as Caster herself views her. An angelic existence, Gretchen possesses a personality of pure innocence. Her very presence and touch is damaging; While she can only exist for a few minutes at a time, she merely needs to touch a servant to do damage. However, to servants of good or neutral alignments, this damage is not severe unless contact is prolonged. However, when a servant of an evil alignment is touched by Gretchen, they will be burnt as if by intensely hot flames. This touch is lethal to evil-aligned servants if prolonged for ten seconds or more.

Chieko

Name: Akiyama Chieko
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Magecraft/Abilities: Chieko's elemental affinity, like the rest of her her blood-related family, is water. As such, she has trained extensively to utilize her affinity as best as she possibly can be, leaving her with a great deal of skill involving water-based spells. Her spells often rely on flows and cycles, as those are prominently featured when water is involved. With enough water, Chieko can cast a spell known as "Vortex Divide". Taking roughly the same amount of water as is in a human body, Vortex Divide is a buzzsaw composed of water.
Appearance: "I don't have time for this."
Equipment: Songbird familiars and a variety of basic ingredients for rituals.
Personality: Chieko, in spite of her smallness and apparent cuteness, is a fiery girl who dislikes inactivity and laziness. She is a very, very hard worker, and while she's capable of being quite friendly, she is often volatile to those who bother her. This may or may not be due to a lack of sleep(she considers sleep to be something perfectly alright to skip if she needs to). Chieko also has potential to get very angry or frustrated when things don't go her way. Considering how hard she works to get things to go right, this may be very justified.
History: Born into the Akiyama magus family, Chieko is their natural descendant, and as such has received their Thaumaturgical Crest. Her parents instilled a strong work ethic into her, and while they crave power like many other mage families, they were not cruel to their daughter. Her training has been stern and harsh, but not unnecessarily cruel. Her skills have been honed to make her a competent magus at a young age. Chieko was involved in a magical incident when she was younger, involving a murderous magi, but she emerged from that situation alive. She has come to the location of the war to participate in the Holy Grail War.

Name: Hakuno Kishinami

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Magecraft/Abilities:
Invoked Censor - Her lineage specialises in not being seen. Not to the extremes of an Assassin, but more like appearing 'generic'. She's the type of girl you'd barely notice and completely forget about a few seconds later. Obviously, while this effect is enhanced in a large crowd, if she's alone, or you happen to know her face well enough, it's not quite so effective.
Mystic Code: Vorpal Blade - A decorative sword with the one-time use of cutting through any kind of defense. This doesn't deal any direct damage to the opponent; rather, it just negates any kind of shielding abilities they may be using for that battle. Technically, this could bypass a Servant's defenses, but... seriously, how is that ever gonna happen?

Appearance: "...I still look generic, don't I?"

Equipment: Well, she has a half-decent apartment with wages sent monthly by her parents. Not much else to go with.

Personality: A friendly girl who tries to be ruthless for the sake of winning the war, but her first instinct is to team up with other Master's instead. While afraid for herself, she's conflicted over the possibility that she could be the only one fighting for a selfish wish, but is too afraid to back down due to her illness. Hakuno is, by nature, a friendly and naive person, often lacking common sense. She can be surprisingly insightful when pointed in the right direction, but she's more likely to stumble around for a long time before making any leeway. Her illness has become something of a sore spot, often losing composure when it becomes apparent that she's forgotten something important, as well as the reminder that it will eventually kill her. If left alone too long, the panic and paranoia can be a tad overwhelming.

History: Latest in line of the Kishinami family, Hakuno has faced immense pressure for some time now. Partly due to her illness all but guaranteeing a short life, but also because of the slowly fading circuits. Possessing only a few magic circuits herself, Hakuno isn't even noteworthy as a mage. 'Officially', Hakuno entered the Grail War in a last-ditch effort to make her family flourish, but...

Lancer

Alignment: Lawful Good
Personality: A powerful, but kind warrior who values loyalty and righteousness above all else. Guan Yu is willing to fight for the weak and oppressed. He strives to repay his debts, even if it would mean freeing an enemy who previously showed kindness in the past. Treachery is something that he will not stand for, and something that is quick to anger him. Trickery is also not something he's particularly fond of.
Appearance: He has the best beard.

Magic Resistance: D - Cancel Single-Action spells. Magic Resistance of the same degree of an amulet that rejects magical energy.
Battle Continuation: A - Makes possible to fight even with deadly injuries and can remain alive so long as one does not receive a decisive fatal wound.

Personal Skills
Charisma: A - Can be said to have achieved the greatest level of popularity as a human being.
Divinity: C - Deified and celebrated after death. He has come to be worshiped by several religions for various reasons.
Military Tactics: C - is tactical knowledge used not for one-on-one combat situations, but for battles where many are mobilized. Bonus modifiers are provided during use of one's own Anti-Army Noble Phantasm or when dealing against an enemy Anti-Army Noble Phantasm.

Title: The Dragon's Roar Carried By The Winds

Description: The guandao used by Guan Yu during the three kingdoms era. Rumoured to have been forged with the body of a green dragon. Guan Yu has a limited capability of controlling air currents, manifested in the form of launching surrounding enemies into the air with a single swing, or releasing a crushing blast of air when thrust towards an enemy.

• Personality: A young girl filled with contradictions, possessing properties of both day and night. Her personality is pure, but cruel at the same time. Though her manner of speech is innocent, she is quick of thought. She is rational, but is emotionally weak. She responds cruelly to others' ill will, but is soft against good will. And although she wears revealing clothing, she is shy, and doesn't go out during the day. She yearns strongly for a mother, and if her Master is female, she will insist on calling them "Mother".

Personality: Humble and polite--though he can be summoned as Berserker, underneath he is still the man revered as the perfect knight. What else is there to say? A paragon of chivalry consumed by guilt over personal failings, he will serve his Master faithfully.
Appearance: Possibly less black and more polished.

Magic Resistance: B: Cancel spells with a chant below three verses. Even if targeted by High-Thaumaturgy and Greater Rituals, it is difficult for him to be affected. (No Saber has below C-ranked Magic Resistance, and Lancelot has his ring)
Riding: A: All creatures but those of Phantasmal Beast and Divine Beast-rank can be used as mounts. This rank is high enough to have aptitude for the Rider Class.

Personal Skills
Eternal Arms Mastership: A+: Mastership of combat arts has reached the point of being said to be unrivaled in one's era. By complete merging of mind, body and technique, it is possible to make use of full fighting skills even when under the influence of any sort of mental hindrance.
Protection of the Fairies: is a blessing from Elementals; the capacity to increase one's Luck in dangerous situations. Activation is limited to battlefields, where it is possible to perform feats of arms. A-Ranked.

Title: A Knight Does Not Die with Empty Hands

Type: Anti-Unit
Description: Allows the wielder to use anything that they can conceptually view of as a weapon as if they were a master that had spent their entire life training with it, even scraps of metal, poles, fighter jets, or others' Noble Phantasms. Normal items are raised to D-Rank Noble Phantasms whilst Saber wields them.

Title: Not For One's Own Glory
Rank: B
Type: Anti-Unit
Description: Hides information about the Servant, making it impossible to discern their identity or true capabilities through an unworldly fog. As Saber, he can use the ability to its fullest extent--and adopt the identity of others known for their combative abilities.

Name: Arondight
Title: The Unfading Light of the Lake
Rank: A++
Type: Anti-Unit
Description: A fairy-forged sword, and counterpart of Excalibur, it can take any attack without being scratched. Its effects are to boost Lancelot's parameters by one rank and double the effectiveness of saving throws (I presume this means his luck against such things as Gae Bolg is vastly boosted), but drawing it seals Knight of Honour and For Someone's Glory.

Yukimura Hanako

Name: Yukimura Hanako
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Magecraft/Abilities: Hanako does not, in the normal sense, possess magic circuits. Her family, you see, was specialised in engineering their children to have 'better' circuits. In her case, they failed to do that, and instead gave her something far, far more potent: a mana core, and all the draconic baggage this adds on. Despite the near-boundless level of power, she is unsuitable as a normal magus; the mechanisms by which they control pana are vastly different.
This immense power does have a few benefits for other Masters: since Hanako exhales prana, there is never any shortage of mana in her vicinity for magus to utilise. It also makes her incredibly easy to pinpoint for those sensitive to such things, due to sheer power.
The excess mana is something that is hard for magi to capitalise on, however: both the fact she essentially is a dragon in human form and the sheer amount of mana means that... well, she's close to immune to magecraft, with the spells that all but the most exemplary throw around just sliding off to no effect.
Hanako's only 'active' ability is to release this energy in bursts, for the sake of greater agility or--theoretically--damage. Damage is only theoretical, because she owns absolutely nothing that can take the forces it gets swung with for more than a single blow without shattering.
She thinks this is some sort of reinforcement. It isn't.
Appearance: There's always one.
Equipment: She has a flat. It's full of cheap ready-made food, along with a few lengths of pipe, and a disturbing amount of specialised magical texts.
Personality: Surly and not too good at getting along with people, Hanako has a deep-running feeling of being out of place. Finding out what her family did as well as what she is has explained it, but still left her with no overall goal in life. Though in the Grail War because of the wish at the end, she has no idea what she would actually wish for.
History: Hanako was born as the heir, and final experiment, of an established magus family whose pride lay in outright engineering their descendants' magical circuits to be ever closer to some mythical ideal. It was an ability with a high degree of failure, causing them to end up with a lot of 'failed' experiments who lacked magical ability entirely.
Hanako was judged to be one of these failures, and given away to some 'mundane' family. They were of course, wrong in their estimation, but this wasn't found out until the worst possible time: their now-grown daughter had worked out there was something horribly off with her body, and hunted them down. Unimpressive magical defences failed to block this "stranger's" entry, and after a tense confrontation, she grabbed the research materials and notes she could find, then torching the building.
She doesn't know if anyone survived; they've lost any accumulated knowledge in the inferno by now.
Since then, she returned to essentially running a small-time gang and trying to make sense of the notes. Something called 'Reinforcement' keeps coming up, and she can sort of do the same thing, but it doesn't match the descriptions. The most recent batch of notes gives a template for summoning something of enormous power... Hanako has no interest in the further notes in trying to funnel that sort of power off into an unborn child to give them vast magical power. The sidenote about 'omnipotent wish-granting machine'? That's interesting.

Archer

Class: Archer
Spirit: Odysseus
Master: Kishinami Hakuno
Gender: Male
Alignment: Neutral Good
Personality: Strangely lazy for a great hero from the Age of Gods. He's the type to do whatever he feels like doing - in fact his whole legend was pretty much 'Archer does what Archer wants' - sometimes completely unrelated to the War entirely. He displays an amiable demeanor to those he interacts with, if only because pissing everyone off isn't a good way to go about things. Just like in his legend, Archer is proficient in the art of eloquent rhetoric and opts to use that to solve conflicts instead of resorting to combat, whether that be by manipulating his enemies into attacking each other or taking the diplomatic option out. Don't take his dislike of combat as a sign of weakness, however. Archer is still the same cunning warrior he always ways, stretching the boundaries of a fair fight to grind his enemies into the dirt to secure a victory for his side. With Archer, pretty much everything is fair game, however he isn't willing to unnecessarily kill or involve innocents, among other lines he won't cross.

...Of course that's assuming you can actually motivate Archer enough to participate because once again, Archer does what Archer wants.

Independent Action
The ability to remain independent even when rejecting the prana supply from the Master. At the higher ranks, it is also possible to remain for extended periods of time in this world without an established contract.

A: Can remain in this world for a week even after losing his Master. However, to use Noble Phantasms of great prana consumption, back up from the Master is necessary.

Magic Resistance
Protection against magical effects. Differently from the Resistance effect that merely rejects prana, this ability cancels the spells altogether.

C: Cancel spells with a chant below two verses. Cannot defend against Magecraft on the level of High-Thaumaturgy and Greater Rituals.

Personal Skills
Eye of the Mind (True)
A heightened capacity for observation, refined through experience.

A+: Capable of calm analysis even when in danger and deduce an appropriate course of action after considering all possibilities to escape from a predicament. So long there is even a chance of a comeback, this ability greatly improves the chances of success.

Guise of Anonymity
The skill to blend into an assumed role. Rather than simply altering one's appearance, it completely obfuscates one's presence as a Servant when dressing appropriately. However, this comes at the cost of a rank down to certain stats depending on the role assumed.

B: Makes it impossible to connect the Servant to the disguise when encountered undisguised or in different disguises. The blessing of a Divine Spirit. In this case Athena, Goddess of skill, strategy, and warfare. This blessing manifests itself in the form of various boons provided to Archer in the form of convenient coincidences when creating or executing a plan. Should Archer lose favor with Athena in any way, such as over-reliance on her blessing, this skill will lose its effects until the Goddess is sufficient appeased.

Noble Phantasms
Name: Odysseia

Description: A representation of the journey that has become more famous than Archer himself. This manifests in a Noble Phantasm that allows Archer to summon either that which he has encountered in either the Iliad or the Odyssey, or the materials used to create them, and recall them as he sees fit. The summons are typically mundane materials - save for the magical items, relics, and magical effects - and do not include the Noble Phantasms of other heroes, the heroes themselves, or any monsters he's encountered. The only cost is that of summoning, which varies from almost free to absurdly expensive depending on power and rarity of the summon. For example, calling forth something like the actual Trojan Horse would cost a great deal of prana, while summoning something like some arrows for his bow would be rather cheap. Archer typically uses this Noble Phantasm to summon up alternate weapons to do battle with when his bow just won't do, or put together some kind of contraption to solve a problem.

Description: The most legendary concept of the Trojan War and Archer's most famous feat. This Noble Phantasm is the embodiment of two concepts: "a gift that allows the giver to bypass the enemy's barriers". When this Noble Phantasm is invoked, if Archer has given the enemy a physical gift and the enemy has acknowledged it, he may neutralize the effects of any defensive non-EX Noble Phantasm, magecraft, or other non-physical form of defense used by the target or their allies against himself. This does not dispel or destroy the effects, but instead makes them ignore Archer entirely.

However, if one knows Archer's identity or have already experienced the function of this Noble Phantasm and know that it was Archer's doing, they are immune to the effects of this Noble Phantasm so long as they have the mental capacity to comprehend either fact. Additionally, this Noble Phantasm can only be used against one team at a time. Attempting to use it against new enemy/enemies will neutralize the original effect and force Archer to give another 'gift' if he wishes to restore the effect against the original target. However, it loses effectiveness after one use on the same target, allowing defenses a rank lower than the previous iteration to remain in effect.

Mechanics

Basically a physical gift in this context would cover stuff like 'joining the enemy team', 'offering to do combat unarmed', 'providing the location of an enemy' or giving an actual gift. It wouldn't cover anything like 'doing a feint attack' or 'giving good advice'. And it has to have actual value of some sort to the enemy, which means he can't just say "Hey, here's a rock."

Knowing it's Archer's fault would be something like seeing Archer walking through all your carefully lain bounded fields. Detecting someone walking through all your carefully lain bounded fields, but not perceiving who did so doesn't count. Knowing that the gift is the conceptual trigger or what the gift was is unnecessary.

Targeting allies means.....targeting allies. If, for example, it targeted a Servant, that means their Master and any alliances they've made are included as well. If they break the alliances then it'll be just Servant/Master, and if they break the partnership it'll be just the Servant.

James specializes in a rather uncommon type of magecraft that's really only good for combat scenarios, and an art that makes the saying 'a magus walks with death' exceedingly literal. The former could be called his branch of the family's 'specialization' of sorts, as it was understood that the greatest and most common enemies were magi with more powerful mysteries on hand. The latter is just a preference of James' as an individual.

The objective of Counter Magic is to disrupt the activity of Magic Circuits to prevent the casting of spells, something that could be likened to shooting an enemy's gun out of their hands. While the same effect could be replicated by hitting an enemy with a sufficiently powerful attack at a faster speed than they can cast to disrupt their self-hypnosis, James possesses spells in his arsenal revolving around increasing the duration of an enemy's inability to cast rather than just disrupting a single cast. His simplest spell and a mainstay of his repertoire is that of a close-quarters spell that prevents prana conversion, maintained so long as James can maintain touch triggered by an aria that I have yet to think of. Other spells include a trap in the form of a magic circle, triggered by the proximity of active Magic Circuits, and the pinnacle spell of his Counter Magic: a Bounded Field that prevents the active use of Magic Circuits from everyone within, including the caster. No more, no less. Unfortunately this has no effect on spells originating outside the field or preexisting spells, nor does it affect the connection between Familiars or Servants that enter. It does affect Masters that enter, however.

His choice application of necromancy is surprisingly lacking human zombies. Although he could do that if he wished, he prefers using bound spirits since they're a bit more subtle over all. He does, however, use dead people parts for ingredients in rituals and such, and will dig up graves if necessary. Generally though he prefers to use necromancy as a means to manufacture familiars and gather information by replaying the memories of the deceased. His familiars of choice are bound spirits and Frankensteinian, cobbled-together animal familiars, which he uses for reconnaissance, guards, or any other general assistance they are capable of providing.

Wind and Lightning Magecraft

Elaboration

Apart from his specializations and the basic magecraft all good combat magi are supposed to know (Reinforcement, healing, etc), James can also utilize spells relating to the elements Wind and Lightning. However, the extent of his knowledge regarding these fields of magecraft isn't too wide, and as such has been delegated more to a combat augmentation role than a direct damage dealer.

His Lightning magecraft is limited solely to the following three spells and the various ways he can apply them: the basic ability to shoot lightning, the ability to coat body parts in shaped Lightning-aligned prana, and stimulating his nerves and bio-electrical signals at the risk of ending up with a fried brain and/or frayed nerves. In theory he could fire off a railgun attack as well, but that carries the cost of blowing his eardrums and likely destroying his hand. On the other side, his use of Wind magecraft is pretty much limited to summoning bursts of winds, and pushing/pulling/moving objects using streams of wind, usually his Mystic Code.

Swordsmanship and Close-Quarters Combat

His Mystic Code is a sword, his most useful spell only works close up, and he hunts heretics for a living. It would be really strange if he hadn't learned how to use his assets to achieve maximum effect.

Could be and should be considered his primary source of offensive presence on the battlefield. It's a sword specialized for channeling prana aligned with James' affinities of Wind and Lightning into elemental melee attacks or to discharge enhanced spells with the blade as an amplifier. Using the properties of galvanism, this Mystic Code can absorb Wind and Lightning-based magical attacks and convert them into prana to fire off at a later time. It can also take in standard electricity, but in that case it still requires prana so it can be discharged in combat. Against spells of the two relevant affinities that target only a single individual, it serves as a very good defense. Less so for attacks that cover a wider area, as the surface area of the blade can only absorb so much at a time.

Personality: Surprisingly lively for someone whose seems to be absolutely surrounded by death. James is a very casual person, definitely lacking in the usual discipline of a magus. He's a very reasonable person overall, however he has the potential to be very unscrupulous despite his pleasant demeanor. He's very much an opportunist willing to take advantage of anything that comes his way, and is often far more than he appears to be. It's a good idea not to take everything he does at face value.
History: The Minassian family is a fairly old one from Armenia, spanning back many generations with the goal of reaching the Root by using Lightning magecraft to manipulate electromagnetism and its properties as a fundamental force. It has only a single branch family, and an tradition in which any extra children from the main family are taken into the branch family and trained alongside their children to become retainers for the main branch.

James is just the most recent child from the main family passed off at a young age to receive training in magecraft and combat from his relatives. This training went on for a few years until a falling out occurred, resulting in his alienation from the family at large. All alone and with no options in sight, James became a freelancer, putting those years of training to actual use and picking up a few new tricks on the road.

Life went on, but eventually news reached James' ears that his family was utterly wiped out. The news stunned him, but it couldn't be said he mourned their deaths for too long. To him, they were like strangers. Nevertheless, he returned to the ashes of his former home to pay his respects, and maybe bury a few bodies. It was here that he came in contact with the wraith of his father. Consumed with thoughts of vengeance and feelings of anger, James' father ordered him to hunt down whoever had done the deed as some kind of 'redemption' for James.

Despite not needing what was being offered in exchange for his services, James decided he may as well fulfill a dead man's request and spent some time hunting down the perpetrators. His father's reaction surprised him. He'd expected more celebration and gloating, and less feelings of emptiness and depression from his vengeful father. Not that it mattered too much, as James' father soon faded away, and back to regularly scheduled programming it was for James.

Three years later, strange marks appear on his hand...

Benkei once stole it in a great rage and carried it by himself to the top of a mountain, where its mournful ringing at being stolen drove fear and despair into all those who heard it. The ringing of the Bell when it impacts or is swung with sufficient force can cause a fear effect in anyone unprepared for it. The giant iron bell itself makes for a good bludgeoning weapon, with Benkei's giant frame and massive strength letting him swing it like a club or hammer with surprising speed.

Mamoru's primary ability is his Factory of Artificial Manservants-''Galatea Genesis'', which allows him to create small familiar-like constructs he's dubbed "golems". Mamoru can see and hear what they do and they function off of a shared hivemind but because they are somewhat ditzy on their own, he mostly uses them for spying and general help around the house. The golems real value is in their ability to form together into a single much larger, stronger, faster and more intelligent golem. Due to the hivemind coming from a ghost, when the golems are in their fused together form they are capable of taking on a human appearance and personality

Equipment: Mamoru's most notable asset is his Mystic Code, Defend Motion Enhance. While ordinarily taking the form of his wheelchair, when Mamoru sends a signal of prana through the chair it forms a shield around him and automatically reinforces itself to become much faster and more durable, turning into something akin to a small, highly mobile tank, minus the artillery of course. other than that, he has his golem(s) a nice hotel room and enough money to survive comfortably in Tokyo.

Personality:Mamoru has always believed that with enough training, dedication and preparation any obstacle can be overcome. Despite being instructed by his family to do anything it takes to win and attempting to put on a ruthless facade, Mamoru secretly dreams of being a Hero of Justice and protecting the weak since he is often viewed as weak himself. As such, while he is prepared to use underhanded tactics where necessary he would prefer to ally with other Masters rather than fight them. So in short while he tries to come off as a cool and cynical tactician, he's secretly kind, optimistic and somewhat childish.

That raises a question, though. Insanity functions in regards to the "mind," the mind exists through the conduit of this voice. What then is the relationship between the voice and the nature of insanity?

Insanity is not hearing the voice. Insanity is not even listening to the voice when it tempts you towards the blackness.

Insanity is when you tear the skin off the voice and plaster it over yourself. When you cease to contemplate finitude and look to a futile apotheosis that makes itself symmetrical above the flesh of Man.

Sorcery Trait of Nanami. Leads to an utterly obscene amount of od. While her circuits are mediocre if not worse, the od possessed by the Force of Life is extraordinary, a precedent seen in such beings as a certain Lord of Familiars. About 1800 units of prana can be stored. However, as no magus ever uses their od because there's always mana around, this has little efficacy.

Imaginary Numbers

A perfect world ability based in "making theories possible". Deals with the instantiation and manipulation of "imaginary numbers". Also applies to creating openings to Imaginary Number Space. For instance, she can be treated as a diver who thrusts her hand into a dimensional crevice. Although it's different, Imaginary Number space is similar to a pocket dimension. Things that fall into it cannot be affected by time and space. She uses this characteristic as a time capsule for her equipment.

Eastern Alchemy

The magecraft all members of Atlas are expected to know. Includes Thought Acceleration, and Memory Partition. Nanami's capacity maxes out at five partitions.

Ephemeral Falsehood

A Mystic Code based in the Imaginary Numbers affinity. A small black sphere that, when prana is run through it, becomes a "conversion unit" that can alter matter into imaginary numbers for an exceedingly brief amount of time, upon which calculations may be imposed for said time span. Brevity of the change is caused by the world attempting to "reject" the existence of imaginary numbers, and force a change back to matter. Cannot affect living beings without their consent.

General Magecraft

The standard fare for any self-respecting magus, learned in the Clock Tower. It's worth noting that anyone who calls themself a magus should have the following capabilities, so other Masters will likely possess this as well. Includes the following:

Magecraft Shields: Protection, however one’s senses are amplified. Eg Protecting against blinding will make your eyes water, protection against suffocation will increase the smell, etc.
Nightvision: The ability to see in the dark.
