No need to mourn him, I understand that he hasn't been very likeable (apparently) so it would be rather odd if everyone suddenly turned around and started mourning his death ^^'

In fact, here's how I see reactions happening xPPP :

Ull'Yang: They just fought each other, Ull being sad over Vowzra's death seems rather odd
Jvan: Well, that's a bit obvious, he's been hating on her since before the universe was created
Toun: Appears to have developed a dislike for Vowzie after Vula's 'death'
Teknall: They just had a confrontation where Vowzra came off like a right prat xP plus he and Jvan are buddies and all that
Kyre: Hardly knows Vowzra and that confrontation didn't give off any good impressions either
Astarte: Just doesn't see eye to eye with him. Might be like, 'oh, he died? Shame. Where's Big gone? Come 'ere biggie...biggie...*remembers what Sin did to her and weeping ensues. All think she's crying for Vowzra and comfort her. Vestec pledges to kill Vowzra for making her sad*'
Slough: Her new wooden form might creak ever so slightly
Illunabar: Vowzra's that weirdo she awkwardly made a baby with that one time. And the baby made her feel super weird too. You know, it might be a kinda good thing that guy's gone...he's like that ex you kinda wish never happened
Niciel: Aww, Vowzra's dead?! How did that happ- oh, he was on Vestec's side in the war? Well, one less bastard to deal with *takes a puff from her nicegar*
Zeph: Has anyone considered that Zeph may also be dead? *glass shatters* or at least, plausibly assumable to be dead
Vestec: Damn! Vowzra's dead? Where's his essence? Can I play wiv it?
Logos: *strokes TOBIA* there there my little antywanty. Soon we shall DESTROY THIS HIDEOUS WORLD AND BUILD ELDORADO ON ITS RUINS get you some more honey

Belvast: *Literally dies emotionally.*

@Kho You got to understand, Ull didn't really want to fight Vowzra. They never had hatred between them so why not mourn his death? The way Ull sees it, although Vowzra had different views on the Jvan matter than Ull, he respects that, evident of the fact that he stopped arguing after seeing that Vowzra could not be reasoned with.

So yeah, Ull would pretty much mourn every god that died.

*Looks at Vestec and Logos*

Just had an idea about Urtelem society. They're hermaphrodites, but so far I've been assuming that Urtelem have gender (Matriarch, Stoneman). Obviously most of that would be other races perceiving them a certain way, but what if Urtelem do have gender, as a spectrum based on age and family position? The further they are from a parenting role, the more male a pronoun they're assigned.

'Male' at birth and through childhood.
'Female' as they reach reproductive age, fuse, and raise a newborn.
'Male' as the baby (pebble?) matures and between pairings, before they're ready for another child.
'Female' for those who are past reproductive age (probably like 600 years?) but are considered 'mothers' of the whole herd- Matriarchs.
'Male' for those who play a passive role in guiding the group once they become elders.

When a matriarch dies, one of the 'male' elders becomes a 'female' matriarch and takes over.

I think the fact that the roles are gendered is more incidental of English being bad at neuter titles. I can see how there would be differences in nurturing vs. leading, but that kinda fuses with the matriarch role. Other associations with gender roles could be fished out, I guess. I don't know, it just feels like an urtelem wouldn't understand anyone trying to explain it to them because of all the other baggage that comes along with a 1 dimensional gender spectrum, let alone a binary. Maybe it's just me being a shitlord. *shrug*

I don't object to how you present it, though.

Regardless of whether Vowzra was liked or not, most people didn't want him dead. It might not be 'mourning' per se, but at the very least respects would be paid. I think this is the point.

Right now, the only DEAD dead god is Reathos. Julkolfyr is implied to be imprisoned somewhere whilst Mammon and Vulamera are merged with stuff. If Vestec goes about trapping and merging Vakalron and Daegon's essences with the Realm of Madness, then they will be in the same predicament as the other two.

Realistically, Vulamera and Mammon are as good as dead. While they might not be strictly dead, when their state is discovered it would likely elicit a similar emotional response.

@Antarctic Termite@Muttonhawk I did not define any gender system when creating the Urtelem, yet hermaphrodite fits the description best. Mutton raises the interesting point that a gender spectrum probably doesn't make much sense to the Urtelem on account of that. Perhaps, at a stretch, such terms would be the 'best fit' when translating from Urtelem concepts to English, but it would be a loose fit at best. But it's still a good thought.

@Muttonhawk Nah, you have a pretty good point. The idea did come up in the first place because of the English descriptions, after all. Denomination systems based on other critera don't really apply as well there (except as BBeast mentioned, as a best-fit model).

Although language gets interesting all over again: How does an almost purely visual/motion-based language handle words and concepts that aren't discrete, so to speak? Do Urtelem have a variable spectrum of 'pronouns' based on how the emphasis is distributed in each 'word' to which a pronoun is necessary- Or maybe they don't use pronouns or names at all, distinguishing between one another with temporary verbal labels, somehow? Are they Tolkien Ents, that use their name sparingly, as a continually changing identity story, and otherwise don't need to distinguish between one another's identity during conversation?

Or given that their new brains run on graphically represented formulae, do they actually have numbers/equations/shapes as 'names'? Would that feel as dehumanising to them as it does to, well, humans?

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

ed ed ed ed: These aren't questions that really need answering, by the way, I'm just having fun avoiding my other responsibilities.

I like the idea of the usage of verbs - since the Urtulem are very 'action savvy'.

This has pretty much made me realize that I should probably expand upon gender on the Lifprasilian race sheet, when I eventually make it.

All this talk about gender roles has given me a buffet of thought for how hain gender roles would develop. I don't know how changing reproduction from pregnancy to laying clutches would alter how females would behave. I mean, they have fairly clear males and females, but I haven't exactly got troupes of egg-laying primates here on Earth to compare them with. *sigh* This is my fault for designing such a weird species.

Anyone here know enough about birds, or lizards, or echidnas to give me a hint?

Edit: This is great procrastination fodder C:

So this is random and it would probably be best if you igore it. But I am very in the spirit of my unborn/uncreated character and fairly intoxicated. Regardless I find these current topics of conversation very interesting ^^.

Poopers that are also vajayjays.

Generally speaking, animals that have many offspring but still stick around to foster them will also tend to ignore or outright reject "runts" or weaker children, not wanting to pass their genes on like that. I'd imagine a sentient species like the Hain in that regard would be close to birds, so favoring tending the children as much as they can until maturity, and generally having a stigma against "runts", which I feel would kinda fit for Toun having created them. Can't even have Imperfect slaves, amirite?

But then again, I haven't seen a biology textbook in yeaaaaaars...

I built the Urtelem as guys for punching the bad guys. While I gave them room to develop, I had never anticipated that they would gain such a complex background and society and culture. Thank you.

Yeah, I guess most characters just wanted him to act like normal gods rather than a slab of talking brick in tree form xD
And the most 'normal' god is probably Teknall, who reminds me of Hollywood's quintessential mad professor fascinated in that one species of beetle. So much so that he goes around dressed like them.

And yes, I think that Urtelem and hain have really developed beyond what I ever imagined them to. I don't think I've ever quite seen such well-developed original sentient species in RPs before. I mean, I thought garinths and treeminds were 'well-developed', but this is something else xD

It's like something right out of a modern-day Blackadder:

'The Chinese take great national pride in their Olympians, but the Rio games have not got off to a great start for Team China.

Last week, the International Sport Press Association reported that Chinese hurdler Shi Dongpeng and his camera man were robbed during an elaborate and unsavoury hoax. When the two men arrived at their hotel in Rio, a man vomited on Shi, and when Shi went to clean himself up, someone stole their belongings.

Chinese broadcaster CCTV has also complained about the Chinese flags that were used over the weekend during ceremonies at the Rio games. The small stars on the Chinese flag are supposed to all point toward the flag’s large star, but at the Rio games, the flags have small stars all pointing upward.

“The national flag is the symbol of a country. No mistakes are allowed!” CCTV declared.

To make matters worse, it was later revealed by Chinese media that the flags were manufactured in China.'

School just started for me again.

Hooray...

Fortunately I've always been pretty good at procrastinating, BSing my assignments, and generally succeeding in spite of myself and my minimal effort. So hopefully my already slow rate of posting won't drop any further.

How is it possible for your school to start classes in August? Isn't this month supposed to be free for most if not all students? o.o
