A few books sat in the small bookcase beside the bed already, a few older and modest with the tightly packed sanskrit adorning the bindings, while a couple others looked significantly more modern and legible with such titles as "Medicinal herbology" and other botany specific subjects. One was open on the bed, the handwritten text across the yellowing pages showing lines connecting various species of flowers. She felt that since she had already mostly unpacked, she may as well begin organizing her room. A small rectangular pot was placed beside the door on the dresser, buds already sprouting from the soil and producing vibrant coloured flowers with a gentle fragrance. With just her presence alone, they flourished and filled the pot with their bounty, leaving her with a smile to match.

Once her books and flowers were settled she had the matter of her clothes to sort out, though they really were all of the same dress as she wore now. They were folded all the same, and placed in the upper drawer of the dresser where she could easily find them. "So much space, I wonder if others actually need all this?" Her eyes wandered the only slightly less-empty feeling room and a frown graced her lips for only a moment as she thought of how much there was still there to fill in her room. She had opened the closet and then shut it again after she had found the dresser and night-stand/bookcase more than enough for her needs, but it still bothered her with how empty it felt.

Noise in the main living area distracted her, the sound of the door closing and shoes on the hardwood. For a moment she thought of going out to see, but felt it more prudent to allow them the chance to settle in and unpack before being confronted with a new face. Devi listened in all the same as she stared out the window of her room, curious as to which of her roommates this one would be, still unsure of who was who, and even what gender the two were. A woman's voice now from the balcony, soft and musical almost with the very slightest of pull to it that made her wonder ever more which demigod she had been paired with. The voice called again, this time directly to herself and the boy in the third room, a smile forming on her lips as she appreciated the gesture, it quickly replaced with a slight wince when she heard the thud of something metal impacting the floors.

Were it not for the long silence, Devi might not have turned and found herself face to face with the dazzling redhead. She found herself immediately drawn to the green of her eyes, though as she was a foot shorter she had to tilt her head up just a bit to meet her eyes. That smile on her lips grew just that bit more as she caught that the woman had been staring at her, only the lightest tint of red coming to her own well-tanned cheeks. "You must be Ah-lee-nah" Her own voice was rather soft, as despite being somewhat outgoing she was still a fair bit timid around strangers. What was far more noticeable was the distinct accent that tinted her words and the way she pronounced them, making it clear that English was not her first language, and it was fairly recently learned at that.

"Such a beautiful name could only belong to a woman to match, after all. I am Devi, daughter of Jagannath." She approached, her body moving in a fluid and graceful manner with just the slightest sway to her hips as she found her way over to standing immediately before Alena with her hand extended in greeting. "You look quite strong, who's daughter are you?" Even were it not for her close presence, Devi's eyes wandering her body would be quite obvious, not even bothering to hide it as she looked over the other woman. "I hope you weren't desiring the other window room, though if that was the case I don't mind moving my things." Her smile was wide and genuine as she returned her gaze back to Alena's eyes, meeting them and holding her stare as she awaited her answers.

A gentle creak announced the shifting of the breeze and the dance of the clouds in the sky changed ever so slightly above. Her body moved with the wind, carried aloft as she was by the winding vines descending from the tree she chose to inhabit for the moment. Those milling about across the grounds, they were to be her classmates for the coming days, and two perhaps were her roommates. The idea all at once confused her and called to her curiosity. Only Calcutta ever had crowds like these, and even then she found it strange that so many people could live in one place at one given time. There was so much earth to spare and it seemed human instinct was to stack on top of each other and build great bastions of stone and steel.

She would have continued on that musing if not for the flutter of azure and emerald wings about her, a dozen butterflies carried by the breeze until finding purchase on her shoulders and the vines she sat lazily from. Of course she had come here of her own volition, once Father had told her of this place and its purpose. "I would like just a moment more to collect myself, Father." Her soft-spoken words carried gently to the listening trees around her, and as if answering her, the butterflies took flight once more to find their next perch. Devi watched them with a small smile on her lips, admiring the way they so easily flit between the trees. Below, her sack of belongings rested against the very tree she hung from, only the items she valued most and truly belonging solely to her were brought with her to this place across the globe, and precious few they were.

Most of them were just changes of clothes, more of the single-piece dresses she liked to wear, but also a couple of books and flower-seeds she had harvested before leaving. Alighting from her perch of vines, her bare feet touched the grass with a gentle pomf and she collected her bag of things. The idea of living within a house of stone did not appeal to her, but she supposed she would get used to it once she had been there for a while. More importantly was the prospect of the people she would meet. That lifted her spirits significantly, a brilliant smile adorning her face as she made her way to the main dorms building and past the others finding their own paths. She gave greetings to those she passed, getting a few in return as well as a few stares as she navigated the hallways. The stares didn't bother her, never had even when she knew what lurked behind those eyes, and she had explained as much to the elder when he had tried convincing her of buying more "American" clothes. Quite hypocritical for a man wearing a loincloth to tell others to dress more modestly, she thought.

A gathering of sorts had formed in front of one of the doors, two women with quite brilliant auras seemed to have met and caught a couple other less incandescent people between them. With just a casual ear while walking by, she caught a few names and matched them to the doors, or at least tried to. English was still difficult at times, the subtle nuances of the mixed language hard to interpret meaning, especially when it came to people who could be quite clever and manipulative with their expressed personalities. Devi simply smiled at the small crowd as she passed, giving greeting and making her way ever forward to her own room at the end of the hall and quietly entering before catching too many questions and conversations in return. Pressing her back against the door, she sighed and wondered if she should have lingered a little longer, introduced herself properly, or tried to simply join in with them. She thought of them and began to slowly piece together her loose knowledge of other mythologies, seeing if she could determine who and where each of them came from. Of course, it was clear who her Father was, as she bore his icon across her back.

There would be plenty of time for that later, for now she was in her new home and needed to unpack. Noise from within one of the three rooms announced that one of her two roommates was already present, likely arrived early so as to claim their room. She thought to do so as well before imposing her presence upon whichever it may be. Her bare feet padded softly across the main room as she looked about, finding the other two rooms quite open and waiting for one to claim them, as well as the boy in the third room getting settled in. Devi gave only a light smile and wave should he notice her arrival, entering into what would be her own room and slowly unpacking her things with the door open in case he desired to be social.
@Blackstripe Working on it, got some other posts I need to make first and then see where I can go with it. Character sheets are my weakness, so it may take a bit of time :<
@medalliah I was fairly certain that you were all crowding around the same door, since you all began congregating around Jackie first.
Genevieve stared blankly at the small girl, thinking immediately that perhaps she had acquired a stowaway and glossing over the SE emblem on her chest. "Assuming the ship is still in system, a fact of which we cannot truly be certain of Corporal Carlyle, our current rules of engagement as per First Division Reactionary Fleet protocol, is to destroy with extreme prejudice. Due to the size of the ship and assumed capabilities, we expect to expend half of the Yoshino's ammunition stores in the sortie. So to answer your question, and the likely followup, it will be immediately when we exit hyperspace and there will be no salvaging operations." Of course, she had already explained as much to the Adept with the augmetic eyes. He wasn't pleased about it, but he accepted her judgement regardless.

Carlyle did bring up a good point however, and it was one that she herself had pointed out when she got the assignment. They had no way of tracking the ship, no knowledge of if the ship was still there, or where it was if not, and more damning to the mission at hand; she wasn't even sure if their weapons could damage it. Dozens of faces stared at her and expected some kind of answer better than what she had been given, and so she did what she did best. "You are correct that the capabilities of the alien vessel are quite unknown, and that we are running into a sortie blinded and perhaps even crippled without knowing it. However, the Yoshino is an old ship and battle-hardened by the Reformation. What's more, is that she's captained by two of UNISEC's most experienced captains in the fleet, one of whom has experience in dealing with alien threats. It's a pretty big bitch of a ship, this alien one, but we'll take her out. We've got enough missiles on board to take down a star-dreadnought, and the stealth capabilities to do it unseen."

A bit more than what command had actually said to her, but she knew it would do to talk up the ship they were all fighting on. The Yoshino did have the stealth tech and the missiles, it was just a matter of putting them on target. As long as the rest of the crew could focus more on that than the absolute unknown of this mission, then she could see it done. After that, she would give them a piece of her mind for throwing out such a shit mission at her.
@Blackstripe So begins the spread of evil... :D

I was thinking of going a little more "Vandal Savage" with my character, though a little less kill-crazy and more on the whole "immortal playing the long-game" type of thing.
Considering Jagannath is also considered a representation of Krishna(the Hindu god of compassion, tenderness and love) and Alena is the daughter of Aphrodite and has her allegiances marked, I think Ebbo might see the outside of the room a lot more than he cares too xD
@Blackstripe Just a quick question while I slowly progress on my CS, but how is magic and immortality handled in the setting? I know it says that "magic is returning" in the story section, but does that mean it was completely absent or just lurking there under the surface in the hands of the few and silent?
@Blackstripe Oh, yeah playing the CEO of the corporation. I was referring more to how the company is actually an evil PMC instead of supposedly evil lol. The CEO would be providing guns and munitions to the bad guys across the globe, most of it military hardware with even tanks and jets for the big-spenders.
