Have an idea for something like this, a sort of Lex Luthor-ish bad guy, though maybe a little less on the crazy :v
Is there still things like Luthorcorp hanging around? If not, I would be up for writing a corporate evil into the RP. Also what kind of tech is there? DC tends to confuse me at times with whether or not it's actually modern or near-future @.@
Superhero/villain Name: Velocity Civilian Name: Verra Valinova Origin city/Planet: Central City, Earth Hometown: Central City Sex: Female Race: Metahuman Height: 5'4" Weight: >:| Age: 17 Birth Date: May 20 2003 AD
Icon: The Flash Lightning Bolt
Civilian Personality:
A bright ray of sunshine no matter the weather, her attitude has always been one of uncompromising optimism and joy. Since she was a small child she had always been that way, never letting anything get to her and supporting her many friends. As she has gotten older, her style has barely changed, though now what was once simply cutesy and adorable has shifted to take on a sometimes flirty attitude as she matures.Verra certainly knows what she's doing, finding it fun and thinking it brightens the mood of the people around her, though on more than one occasion she's had to sweet-talk her way out of a flirt taken the wrong way.
Costumed Personality:
Almost unchanged from her out of costume personality, Velocity is regarded by some as a bit of a Girl Scout in her ideals, always doing her best to do the just thing. Even the more murderous of her foes have found a cell in Iron Heights Prison, where she lets the justice system handle punishment. Her optimism is the one thing the people of Central City find most remarkable about her, in that she has never broken faith in her own abilities and the belief that everything will be okay in the end. That said, the life of a superhero does weigh on her, and she leans on her own optimism and the life of Verra Valinova to get her through the darkest times.
Skills:
Polyglot - Due primarily to her "Speed Mind" abilities, Verra is conversationally fluent in multiple languages, and is easily capable of learning others. At the current moment(2020) she speaks English and Russian natively, and is proficient in French, Latin and Spanish.
Powers:
Speed Force Conduit -
Much like homo magi, the source of Verra's powers is something beyond herself, a dimension full of energy that seems to be the very fundamental force behind space and time. This dimension has gone by many names throughout time, though it is universally known as the Speed Force. People like Verra don't just have a connection to this realm as the magisters do, they rely on the leylines to channel their arcane powers and without them magic would simply continue on as normal. Speed Force Conduits on the other hand, serve a mutually beneficial purpose. Their powers are both a gift to the user, and a very necessary action for the Speed Force itself, serving as a release valve for the indescribably vast energies within the dimension. This is why there is always at least one speedster somewhere in the multiverse, running as fast as they can.
Superhuman Speed -
The primary power of a Speed Force Conduit, incredible speed. Because of the vast energies suffusing their body a speedster, as they are often called, is able to move at speeds beyond normal human ability. Verra herself managed to reach mach 35 in the first few months when discovering her powers, making her among the fastest in the multiverse.
Superhuman Stamina -
Along with superspeed, comes the ability to sustain it for long periods of time. Verra's superhuman stamina means that what would normally exhaust normal humans, is as easy as rolling out of bed. It takes excessive use of her powers to break a sweat, and pushing the limits to even come close to tiring her.
Superhuman Reflexes -
Another ability that comes paired with being a speed force conduit, is that of being able to perceive and react to things at superhuman levels. In an instant everything seems to slow down just for her, and she can easily dodge and redirect most direct attacks. No one is flawless though, and Verra's reflexes are only as good as her sense of awareness.
Accelerated Healing -
Down to the cellular level, Verra's body is in tune with the speed force and infused with its energies. Among the many other benefits and abilities, is that of greatly enhanced healing. What would take weeks for normal humans to heal from, she can do in mere hours if not minutes, and even some of the mortal wounds are just a setback. Accelerated healing can be a double-edged sword however, in that she has to be extra careful when dealing with broken bones and making sure to set them correctly as fast as possible before new bone growth occurs. Otherwise the bone would have to be broken again.
Electrokinesis -
Lightning. She can throw lightning from her hands. Well, it's not actually lightning, more like the electrostatic build up of energy bleeding off her body from the speed force when she's running at high speeds. With a little bit of effort she can directionalize the current that surrounds her, usually towards something that needs zapped.
Enhanced Mental Processes -
Moving at superspeed is one thing, reacting another, but being able to understand everything is something that could become quite difficult. Luckily for speedsters, their minds are also accelerated to process information as fast as they receive it. As quickly as she can turn the pages in a book, Verra can read and understand it. While initially unable to retain more than fragments of information attained in such a way, over time speedster minds are capable of speed-learning entire subjects and referencing it later as if they had known it all along. 2020 Verra hasn't quite reached those levels, though in her life in the future, she had become one of the brightest minds of the time.
Enhanced Senses -
Even without immersing herself in the speed force, Verra's senses are vastly enhanced by its energies. This leaves her able to see things unfold as if in slow motion in front of her, hear whispers across the room and detect the subtlest changes in temperature or charge around her.
Molecular Acceleration -
Through practice and a stronger connection to the speed force, she has managed to achieve control over the basic elements of her body, allowing her to be able to vibrate at specific frequencies to phase through objects.
Speed Force Aura -
While running at high speeds the speed force envelops her body in an aura of energy, bleedoff from the buildup of kinetic energy that shrouds her and allows others traveling alongside her to be protected by the intense forces.
Dimensional Travel -
Discovered during the Second Cosmic War in her other life, Velocity has the ability to open breaches between dimensions through running at a specific speed and immersing herself in the speed force. Normally the procedure is done through the use of specific structures meant to channel the excess energy bleeding off her, but in a pinch she can create a vortex to serve the purpose.
Time Travel -
A step above simple dimensional travel, when Velocity reaches certain speeds nearing light-speed, she is able to tap into the time stream and form temporal gateways. Unaided she is limited in terms of scope, able to easily reach times that she was physical present for, but finding it more difficult to go further back or beyond. Her 3176 self discovered that through the use of strange matter, she could stabilize these temporal gates and reach those distances.
-Gadgets:
Metalloplastoid-microfibre suit -
While it's not the original she made herself in 2018, this one was painstakingly recreated to be a nearly identical replica down to the skirt and thigh-highs. Comprised of an advanced alloy with plastic properties, the fibres are tightly woven to provide a barrier that is not only bullet-proof, but is also impact resistant and incredibly lightweight. As it is a composite material, it is resistant to extreme temperatures and with proper additions can be air-tight. The biggest improvement over the original however, is the addition of the nanotech mechanism that contains the suit. With just the press of her finger against the icon on her chest, the entire costume collapses into a small heart-shaped locket hanging around her neck, from which it can be deployed again in an instant.
Civilian Occupation:
Though primarily a high school student in her senior year, Verra works a part-time job with a local family-owned pizzeria. On weekends and over breaks she delivers in downtown Central City by bike, earning a little bit of disposable income. At school she doubles down on extra-curricular activities, as both a member of the cheerleading team's reserve squad and the Cross-Country track captain. As if that wasn't enough, she maintains a 4.0 GPA and helps to host the science fair each semester.
Character History/Origin:
Even before the dark-matter infused lightning bolt, the woman who would one day become Velocity lived a fast-paced life. As her name suggests, she was born in Russia, in the city of Saint Petersburg and near the shores of the Baltic. Both of her parents were military, and so being on the move was second nature to her before she even came to America. Things only started to slow down when her father passed, and thinking it better for her, her mother decided to stay in Central City to allow her a chance to settle and grow roots. At first it was hard for her, though luckily she was still quite young and was able to learn the language quickly.
From there, everything took a fairly normal course for the young Verra. Grade School started rough, but in time her naturally bright personality made her many friends across the typical cliques. She even took on cheerleading for a while, though stopped before middle school so she could focus more on track and cross country. That was where she found a passion, and when she started running everywhere she went. Only with a pair of running shoes and the open skies could bring her calm as she matured, letting it serve as an anchor of normalcy as the world changed and so did she.
Then two years ago, during her sophomore year of high school, something happened which changed her in a far more definitive manner than mere puberty. On one of her many runs along the trails north of the city, Verra had stayed out a bit later than intended, well into the night and past her curfew. Thinking to take a quick shortcut, she used one of the closed off paths in the forest, unaware of the very good reasons they were closed. A storm built fast overhead with little warning, clouds full of rain from the ocean front and bearing down on the national forest. With limited options, Verra decided to push on and keep heading towards home when a strange sensation came over her.
The rain seemed to stop in mid-air, just hovering around her as she came to a stop in a clearing. A flash overhead signaled the lightning bolt coming down, but though it should have been instant, she could see it slowly arcing down to earth where she stood. Mesmerized by it, or perhaps paralyzed by some force she was unable to move in time to avoid it, being struck by the powerful energies and knocked unconscious.
A month later Verra awoke in Central City hospital, finding flower arrangements surrounding her and her mother asleep in the chair next to her bed. Though she had been miraculously unharmed by the lightning, it had put her into a slight coma and on more than one occasion her heart had apparently stopped. Only later would she discover that during that time it wasn't that her heart stopped beating, but that it was beating too fast to be measured. It took a couple days for her to convince the doctors that she was fine, her mother's threats in the background helping. Before long everything was back to normal, and she even caught up on her school work, though the cheer and track coaches had both insisted on her sitting out for a couple weeks to make sure she was ready.
Yet she wasn't quite the same Verra Valinova that she was before the lightning bolt, and as time passed she was finding herself more and more aware of subtle changes. Her reflexes seemed almost superhuman, and she sometimes stumbled over herself when she got in too much of a hurry. Everything slowed down on occasion, as if she was just slightly disconnected with time. Then one night she took a run and found herself a great distance farther than she thought, and scorch marks on her clothes as if from friction burns. That was the night she truly became Velocity, and thinking to test her newfound powers, she ran as fast as she could…
Two strange things happened at that moment, both somewhat contradictory to each other. At the instant that Verra broke the sound barrier, her velocity increased a hundredfold propelling her forward at an exponential rate. Unable to control her speed, she ruptured the barrier between the speed force and real space, causing a massive shockwave of dark matter and submersing herself directly into that other dimension. Mere moments later she emerged again, though in two different places and two different times. In one instance she stopped just outside her home in Central City, disorientated from the dissipating energies of the speed force, but otherwise fine. At the same time she also emerged over a thousand years later, stumbling into a room on board the Legion of Superheroes space station.
Life continued on as normal for the Verra who returned to Central City, well as normal as life could be for a speedster superhero. She made friends, fought increasingly dangerous bad guys, and even made a sweet costume to look like a proper hero.
In the year 3146 however, she looked back on those years and saw the story of a speedster named Celerity who balanced a life as a movie star, and one as a hero. Central City had long since been destroyed in that time, fallen to one of the many cosmic threats that the Legion had been fighting for decades. She was simply the newest speedster recruited by Lady Arcana. For thirty more years they fought a losing battle against an evil so terrible that it had no name. It fed off the powers of every fallen hero and villain alike, forcing more than one unholy alliance in the name of survival, but defeating them all. In time, the Legion became the Remnant and numbered merely a dozen desperately holding the line for the last few vestiges of life. Everything ends eventually though, and Verra Valinova has vowed to defeat this evil in the name of her fallen friends and family, no matter the cost.
Optional information ---------- Nemesis: School Allies: N/A Team: N/A (These are probably blank, unless you're the Batman analogue)
We're just waiting for the GM to come by and approve some sheets. Unless they say otherwise, it's still got the apply status up so should be good to submit a sheet.
A bit short compared to my usual character sheets, but I think it's solid enough to warrant posting.
Devi Kaur, Foremost Servitor of Jagannath
First Name: Devi Surname: Kaur Nickname: Vi Gender: Female Age: 19 Species: Demigod, Daughter of Jagannath(in the forms of Jagabandhu "Friend of the Universe", Dāruēdabatā "The Wooden God")
Personality: As the daughter of Jagannath, primarily in the form of Jagabandhu, Devi is a compassionate and empathetic person, though oftentimes reserved and timid. She is not one to shy away from anyone in need and is quick to make friends while being slow to anger and far more forgiving than one would think. That part of her she believes favors her father's lineage as the "Friend of the Universe", in that as she was taught by her village, Jagannath has compassion for all including those that wish ill upon him, and that forgiveness is deserved by all. In that, while she may not be the most forward or out-going person of any group, she stands out for her willingness to help and befriend even the most awkward of outcasts.
Hobbies: Vi has few activities she can truly call a hobby, as she has been primarily driven by the needs and well-being of her village, but she does draw more than a little pleasure from those few. Of note is her love for horticulture, something she was quite well known for among the circle of villages back in Eastern India. Flowers and herbs are her specialty in that regard, ornamental and exotic ones strike a particular chord with her with their vibrant colors and natural aesthetics. When she wasn't tending her garden or assisting others however, she would often simply go on long walks through the banyan forest or make a trip to Calcutta to peruse the markets.
Abilities:
- Child of the Forest: An ability she has had since she was very young, Devi has an intrinsic connection to the natural energies of the world and with focus can manipulate them as well. Even without a concerted effort, plants near her become more vibrant and lively than before, her presence a boost of vitality. With ease she can gently coax life into withered ones as well, restoring them and even leaving them with a lingering aura. Most obvious effect of this ability that anyone could see from first glance however, is the way flowers simply blossom around her, surrounding her with the beauty of the natural world.
- The Wooden Princess: Taking on the image of her father, Dāruēdabatā The Wooden God, she can create and direct the growth of trees to a limited extent. Most prominently is the ability to create barriers of wood from the earth or vegetation, which can help her protect others, or the creation of thin layers of bark across her entire body when she feels physically threatened. The latter is something she still has no direct control over, though she has had moments where she could manifest it without danger.
- Akashic Intuition: While she cannot claim to truly be the inheritor of her father's legacy quite yet, Devi still has a connection to him that enables her to learn far faster than any normal human. This primarily comes into play when dealing with languages, in that she can learn nearly any language simply by listening to enough words. There's still a fair learning curve when it comes to actually speaking them, but for her all it takes is a little bit of practice and more exposure to the language. To a lesser extent she can learn instruments and other skills, but she has often been told that when it comes to anything musical she has "wooden fingers".
Extra: It should be noted for anyone that can sense life energy, that Devi Kaur's life force is almost blinding in the immensity of it to the point that often enough other people will be obscured by her mere presence. This comes from her connection to the natural forces of the world, where she is almost always in tune with the trees and other plants around her. No one should be adversely affected by this since it isn't actually tampering with anyone else's aura.
Sleek white hallways flanked the woman on either side with personnel saluting smartly at the sight of the admiral wings adorning her shoulder, and the pierced skull insignia pinned to her chest. Duty called to her, and she was well dressed and prepared for it even if it was a simple briefing for the new crewmen. Such was the reason for the pressed grey uniform jacket and pants, the single red stripe down her right side signifying her command rank. It held importance for her as it meant she had people to look after and guide into battle, as well as home when all was said and done. Already they waited in the briefing room on the deck just below, waiting for inspirational words perhaps or at the very least an idea of what they were getting into with this assignment. She smirked at the concept, as she had doubts herself as to what they were actually facing other than a whole lot of unknown. It was the worst kind of "go smack these guys" type of mission, as at least across the rest of the Confederacy they knew who they were fighting.
Genevieve barely noticed the transition from the command deck into the main crew deck, so lost in her thoughts as she was, but she knew the ship like the back of her own hand and made her way quite well. The briefing room was before her after just a moment's walk, filling with crew-members as they found seats or simply stood against the walls of the circular room. She had specifically requested the design of the room to be such, as she preferred everyone to have a clear and unhindered view of both herself and whatever data was being displayed on the central table.
"Captain on deck!" The call preceded her arrival, as did the shuffle of boots on metal when most of the crew rose to salute. Those who did not were the regulars who knew her a little better from being long time servicemen. Regardless, she waved the rest back down to their seats as she acquired a cup of coffee from her ensign and took a stand at the central table.
"At ease, no need to stand on ceremony." As expected some of the more green Third Division troopers seemed confused at the statement but complied anyways, finding seats and still holding that blissfully ignorant yet gleeful eagerness that could only belong to fresh recruits. "As some of you are aware, either through serving on the Yoshino previously, or just doing your due diligence... I am Vice Admiral Genevieve Alleron of the First Division Star Navy. This ship is under my captaincy, and as such for the extent of your tour on board you are my crew and subject to my protocol."
She took a pause to glance around the room to find those in particular she had singled out in their applications. There was the engineer from Solexus with his cybernetic ocular implants carefully recording everything, and beside him were the twins from Third Helix going over medical dossiers of the entire crew. Across from her directly was both the marksman Carlyle and the bruiser Mio, two who would be handy in case they had to get mixed up on a surface action. Not so much in boarding maneuvers, but she was preferring to avoid that.
"To be blunt, I don't really give a shit what world you came from, much less how your previous outfit did things. Don't put holes in my ship and follow the general regulations and I won't space your sorry asses. Otherwise, when you are not on duty you're free to pursue your off time however you wish as long as it is outside the work areas." Nods and affirmatives followed, uneasily from some but with a bit more enthusiasm from others. She preferred to keep things a bit less on the tight end than those she trained under centuries ago, but still had to set some kind of baseline or people might actually put holes in the ship.
"On to the mission at hand." The table in front of her lit up and began replaying the recording from the 'Zhao' that she had already seen a hundred times over, thus allowing her to take a moment to highlight particular segments and separate them for the others. "Approximately 48 hours ago UNISEC command received this transmission dump from the LRSD vessel Zhao that was running a long-term observation of the star LAT-4/877/43. Unsurprising to I hope everyone in the room, Liaoning hasn't said what it was the Zhao was looking for in the observation, but I am quite sure it wasn't this." At that point a 3D render of the unknown vessel appeared above the table with a small representation of the 'Zhao' at the side.
"This unknown vessel appeared suddenly and without warning within the orbit of the star, then after a two-minute engagement communications with the Zhao were suspended. Instrumentation is vague at best on nearly every aspect of the ship, but what we can gather from this image and the sensory scans in the data-dump, is that it is not from any known alien civilization and that we can assume it to be anywhere upwards of sixteen kilometers in length. Our mission is to investigate the ship and determine their intentions, with the secondary goal to eliminate it. Current plan is to torp the shit out of it with the nuclear torpedoes we recently inloaded from Sinuiju station, send in the remote fighters to clean up anything that survives and come back to celebrate. Any questions?"
@AlfhedilAwesome faction... Could I join it since I'm a Mando?
I admire your enthusiasm for the Mandalorians and wanting to RP as them, but this RP has been dead for three years. My suggestion would be to find something a tad more recent and lively, or maybe look towards starting your own RP.
