There's a difference between the ability to be social, and the desire to be social. I function perfectly fine going outside and talking to people, but that doesn't mean I *like* doing either.

Pilk seems to be trending, so I tried it. Anyone who tells me this is a good drink is no longer a person I wish to associate with.

And when the graves had all been dug, the queen rode out of town.

i sorta feel bad for the OP when people are freshly coming in to dunk on him when his mind's already changed

but at the same time

with that title, what could you even expect to happen
.
free/casual/advanced are arbitrary segmentations made to give people a rough shot of what to expect from you, and people often use them as stand-ins for "short/medium/long posts"

Advanced only means what you want it to mean, with the footnote that pretty much everyone will agree that one-liners aren't exactly advanced-level writing.

RPing is also a form of self-expression, so I'm hardly surprised some people would only want to tackle one type of character or theme.
I've made several attempts at this but they keep breaking down because I lose key players and depend on them for plot points.

ah, see, but there is your first mistake

you still have faith in people
I'd just encourage you to go ahead and try to make an interest check. Tell you what, if you have an idea for a role-play I'll go for it. I'm feeling a bit adventurous and wouldn't mind making the effort.

Not quite the reason I started the thread. I just wanted to hear if anyone else had something they didn't want to push through for one reason or another.

I've got plenty of reasons to not want to start RPs right about now.
I've been thinking a lot about something I'm doing a lot recently: Coming up with a bunch of ideas, but never publishing or following through with any of them. Either I don't think I'll have the time, commitment, something's rubbing me the wrong way or I just didn't think it through at all.

I'm curious to see how many others just go like "Y'know what? Nah, let's not" and to see how much of a widespread problem our collective lethargy seems to be.

Of course, since I started this thread, I'll give all y'all a recent example of my own.

So, basically, I was thinking of reviving a dead game from not too long ago. I found the idea behind it cute, but since I'm Ammokkx, I always make some changes to the formula. I had thought to structure it like a pseudo "choose-your-own-adventure" type game. I had figured to, periodically, give players a list of choices to build their character from (+ the option of them privately shooting the shit on an idea with me, but making sure to limit them in scope comparable to the choices I'd laid out). Hypothetically, right, I woulda gone something like:

"You stumble on a sword in the ground. You begin to remember something... if you're right about this, it was:

A: The sword of a legendary king
B: Yours, from a long time ago
C: Crafted by a fine smith, though wasn't the captain of the guard meant to have it?
D: (Free choice)"

and then the player(s) picked one and we'd continue the plot thread from there. I put like a day of three's worth of time in planning out a world, some lore and thinking about how the choice system would work. Then I just kinda backed out because "lol i would be a terrible GM" mixed with "Y'know, uni starts soon and I really shouldn't ignore that."

Oh, I also flirt with the idea of starting another yugioh roleplay about once every half year and then get PTSD flashbacks from all the failed attempts on this site, so I don't bother with that anymore.

Anyone else got something to share? Doesn't have to be GM woes like I have, could just be "Y'know, this is a really cool character I could make for this RP, but I don't think I'm actually going to" too. Or just not joining an RP in general.
Huff... Puff... Huff... Puff...

Running. Endless running. Continuing through ever-expanding, ever darkening tunnels.

"Someone! Anyone! Please... help me!"

Desperate cries, spurred on by shadows behind. They lash, whip and scrape skin. Every little misstep bringing them one step closer to catching you.

"Mom, dad, granny... where did you all go?! Why is it me... just me?!"

Your legs give out, you collapse. The shadows make their move. They grab you, lift you up, force you to look at their horrible, disfigured face. An inky substance oozes through their cracked features. A desperate struggle, you try to get loose, but it doesn't work. It's the end, your end, nobody to help.

But predator and prey are caught, caught beneath the crashing from above. Something presses down on you, heavy, slams you right down to the floor. It pins you, you can't move. A sharp pain shoots through your back, red mixing with black in a pool right before your eyes. You try to push, but to no avail. Strength is quickly leaving you. Your eyes glaze over and you... you see images, dancing in the liquid. They're, they're five happy figures. They're vanishing one... by one... by one... by one...

but then again,

you,
too,
are...

Chie's eyes slowly flutter open, her vision initially greeted by a brief white haze. She needs a moment to gather herself, dazedly turning her head left-to-right.

"Oh... this is..."

She figured she must be awake after the surgery. It only felt like a couple of minutes had passed since she went unconscious and then woke up again, but it had to have been far longer. She tried to move her arms, and succeeded, but not without difficulty. They felt heavy and tingly, as if the muscles spasmed with every little exertion. Her lips were dry, her head was foggy, but she was awake and aware. Awake enough to try and sit upright, at least. Chie gave herself a little push, trying to bend herself over forwards.

"Ow...!" she winced. A pain shot through her abdomen when Chie had tried to move in the way she did. She shuffled back a bit, supporting her back on the pillow beneath her, to try and bend her head forwards. The pain lessened, slightly, but not enough for it to stop throbbing. Chie reached out with the arm attached to her IV drop, getting a good view of being hooked up, in order to touch around her stomach. More stinging each little prod. Something hard was there, something that wasn't there before. Right... she had her... 'Ars Amagus' now. It felt slightly surreal to have it there. She pulled her hand back and saw blood, splattered across the palm and fingertips. She must've opened a wound. Too dazed to be worried about it.

Her experimenting would need to be put on a hold anyway. A sudden onset of nausea- most definitely because of her efforts so far, forced Chie to lie down again as quickly as possible. Her breathing was a bit hoarse; that wasn't helping the situation much. She closed her eyes for a bit. It was hard to distract herself from the various discomforts she felt. Her body was hurting, her head was foggy and she felt like she could throw up at any moment.

She needed to get her mind off her discomfort. The others were there too, she figured, for there were a couple of beds she spied in her initial scan of the (admittedly barren) room. Chie opened her eyes again, but she kept her gaze fixed firmly on the ceiling.

"Is... everyone feeling okay?" she asked the room, her voice quiet and slightly hoarse from a lack of fluids. She wasn't actually even sure if the others had woken up yet. Hopefully they had. She didn't want to suffer alone.

absolutely not. i'd never even consider treating anyone on RPG with a smidgen of friendliness.

Sounds about right
.

Everyone's words of comfort set Chie's heart at ease, but she wouldn't get the chance to feel relaxed for long. Something was wrong with Crystal, clearly, as the girl shot up in a panic and scrambled over to the door. Luckily for everyone involved, the other two girls had quickly gotten a handle on the situation and made Crystal calm down. Well, at least calm enough to sit back down and talk about what bothered her rather than running off in a panic.

"Oh! Please allow me to do this," Chie offered when Crystal asked the group to scour for her medicine. She pushed herself off the cot and walked over, taking the note out of the girl's hands. Chie made sure to read the two names back to Crystal, just to confirm she got it right, as well as making sure Selma didn't need anything. Just before heading out the door, she turned to the group and said: "I'll be back as quickly as I can, I promise."

Stepping outside, it was no real surprise that a guard immediately came over and asked why she would leave the room. "Ah, well you see..." Chie started and quickly explained the situation. She may have exaggerated a little in how hungry Rivka was, but Chie wanted to make sure she could fulfill the duty she took upon herself to the best of her ability. The guard muttered to another soldier for a bit before agreeing to take Chie to the medical tent and ask the staff on-hand. All throughout her dealings, Chie remained as polite and soft-spoken as she could. She bowed, made sure to express her gratitude for all of their help so far; anything to win favor. Despite the stiff and professional atmosphere, everyone she spoke to greeted her with a smile and a laugh. It was a bit scary for her at first, but the more she spoke to people, the more she saw just how... normal everyone was, even in an emergency like this. It offered comfort.

"...so that is why I'm terribly sorry to ask for more than what you've already done for us, but would you please grant our request?" Chie said to a different officer she was talking to, finishing it off with a bow. One of the medical staff had already agreed to send a soldier to deliver Crystal's medicine to their room, but that didn't do much to alleviate Rivka's hunger. Her request was met with a smile; hopefully that was a sign she won him over. Hearing the words that followed, then, made her eyes glisten like the morning sun. "Yes, thank you so very much!" Chie replied, bowing once more in both respect and gratitude, before being escorted back to the temporary room.

Stepping back inside, Chie gave everyone her warmest smile. "I'm sorry it took so long, everyone! The soldiers on-base have agreed to temporarily open the mess hall again for us. I'm truly sorry if anyone else isn't very hungry, but I thought it would be nicer if we could all eat something together, even if it isn't much. The guards will take us there when we're ready to go," she explained.
