Personality Traits

The many years of living amongst Korea’s elite have perfected his charming and polite mask. Though the more observant onlooker can see his smile never really meets his eyes, and despite a lengthy conversation, much about him remains shrouded in mystery. Cassian never really gives anyone the chance, much preferring his distance and maintaining the enigmatic reputation he has around business partners and older, well-established strangers.

Among his peer-level acquaintances, he presents a less agreeable and charming face. On the day to day ambition and success drive him forward, his steeled focus on achieving his goals and being the best, make him often appear unemotional. While he may present a face to the “movers and shakers” in this world he is rather genuine and true to himself. Away from the socialites of Korea, and away from the need to “save face”, he sees no value in trying to present himself as something he isn’t, and besides his field of study doesn’t do much of anything he doesn’t enjoy to do. So don’t expect too many apologies or many compromises from Cassian who has a poor tendency of being selfish and inflexible. Though if you can get past those hurdles, Cassian is someone you’d want on your team, his hunger for success has crafted quite a dilligent, hardworking, and persistent work ethic and approach to life. While he may spend many hours pursuing a single goal, and rarely gives up on chasing after something, he is not someone you’d go to for “uplifting” words of encouragement, he can be rather pessimistic, which he claims is just being "realistic and practical".

The only people who get a glimpse of the more relaxed and even likable side of him are his closest friends, of which he can count on a single hand. With them, he drops the tight guard he’s built around himself and becomes a somewhat normal sarcasm-using, eye-rolling, alcohol-loving, always-there-when-you-really-need-him college guy, with the added dose of arrogance his social status and personal achievements have afforded him. Cassian has a “secret” romantic side and is an extremely generous lover and even exhibits a “softer” side his friends have teased him for. However, even with those closest to him, Cassi very rarely reveals all of himself. A person whose pride demands silent suffering and almost always handles problems on his own.

Upbringing Synopsis

Cassian came into the world minutes before fireworks would rocket into the night sky. Despite the rather warm weather if the beginning summer season and a beautiful baby to bring home, the coldness between his parents would not be thawed. Sooyeon hoped that providing her husband a beautiful, healthy baby boy would win his affections and put an end to the cold tension between them, but her hopes never came to head.

Sooyeon’s career took her all over the world in her young adulthood and she fell in love with the world outside of Korea. That curiosity and desire to explore the world was unfit for the comfortable life she would live as the “trophy wife” to a Chaebol. When Cassian was born, and she received all the confirmation she needed about her loveless marriage she decided that a “comfortable” life wasn’t one she was interested in anymore and not one she’d force upon her son. After a couple of months of working out a convenient arrangement to avoid a messy divorce, Sooyeon relocated to Australia and began her career as a music teacher and a life as a mother.

Cassian’s fondest memories are from his time living in Sydney, and despite rarely seeing his dad, he never felt like he was missing anything from his home life. Cassian’s love for swimming and surfing was born in Sydne. Which he sucked at both initially, but his love for them outweighed his frustrations and crafted the hardworking and persistent attitude he has for overcoming challenges. The competitions for both sports started in his middle school years and while he wasn’t an overnight success, his steady improvement certainly paid off with his first win and then the many following it.

The summer between middle school and high school was the last he spent in Sydney. The agreement his parents had made so many years ago put a bad taste in his mouth when he was made aware of the “stipulations”. Reluctantly Cassian packed up his life in Australia and headed to the large estate his father owned and shared with the “new” family he had created. To say the least, High School was literally the worst time of his life, compared to the simple life he lived in Australia, Korea was hell. Expectations and reputation weighed him down with every step he took, his favorite past times were deemed as distractions to his necessary academic excellence. To prevent him from “wasting time” chasing after girls or “flailing about in a damn pool” Kyung-tae filled his schedule with after school academies, internships and skill classes. The only glimmer of hope that kept him going was escaping to America at the prestigious academy his father had chosen for him.

Cassian graduated at the top of his class with honors and test scores most kids could only dream about... like he was expected to. Despite the six months he had until school started he shipped out to America on the soonest flight after his graduation celebration and spent the time before the start of his freshman year exploring places like Hawaii, L.A, and New York.
