Abilities:

Vitrikinesis:

Brodie has the ability to manipulate glass, mirrors and diamonds. The scope to which is abilities could evolve are incredible but at this current early stage his powers are limited to the following;

Silica Kinetic - Brodie can generate and move glass and other silica like substances with his mind. These materials normally manifest by protruding through Brodie’s skin; this is a painful process which he cannot fully control. Once free from his body, the silica can be made to move at high speeds, shatter or take shape as he wishes. A bio product of this ability is that Brodie seems to heal faster than a normal human as the wounds created from the silica manifestation heal almost instantaneously.

Organic Diamond Skin - Involuntarily at the moment, Brodie can transform his body into a flexible organic diamond form. He does this by shedding his outer skin. When in this state; he is stronger and much more durable than when in his normal form.

Reflective Teleportation - Brodie can use any reflective surface and teleport between them. He does this by entering a pocket universe he calls “Mirrorworld” where time works differently. A few hours travel in Mirrorworld equates to but a few minutes in the real world.

History:

Brodie Driver-Stewart was born in Rockland, Maine; the only son of Boat Captain David Driver and local baker Maria Stewart. Even as a child; Brodie was entranced by the scenic nature of his native State. He would spend hours out on the water fishing with his father or walking the many hiking trails with his mother. Whilst his home life was everything he could’ve asked for; Brodie’s school life was anything but. Bullied for his red hair and lanky frame; he would do everything he possibly could to stay out of the limelight and not stir the pot. This would sum up his life going forward really; a quiet guy who didn’t want to rock the boat.

As a teen; Brodie found a passion for photography and filmmaking and began to combine it with his love of nature. He finally settled on the hope of becoming a documentarian but the equipment needed to pure this dream did not come cheap and his family, although loving, just could not afford to help him. After taking a few odd jobs around the town; he finally began working on the crabbing boats that basically fed his entire hometown. Although he enjoyed the work, Brodie found the money just too poor and eventually decided to venture south and headed to Florida where he got a job working aboard a few luxury yachts down there. Once he finally saved enough money; Brodie enrolled himself at the famous Empire State University.

Brodie’s first year at ESU was fairly uneventful. His second year was sadly postponed due to the global pandemic and it is here where everything changed. Planning on returning to Maine for the summer to be with his family; Brodie got the call to head down to Florida for a charter. Surprised that the boats were still running but in need of the money; he headed down that way and took up a position on board the Aurora Storm. It was while out at sea catering a rich kids birthday party when the boat was struck by the terrigen storm. Brodie’s time in his cocoon felt like forever but it had only lasted a few seconds; when he emerged; the boat was engulfed in flame and the partygoers were extremely panicked. As it turned out; the birthday girl had also undergone terrigenesis and had basically exploded. Not knowing why but Brodie had the sudden urge to touch an nearby mirror and in doing so created a wormhole back to shore via a restaurant mirror. Through this act, Brodie saved the lives of those on board but terrified himself in the process.

He would spend the next few months in isolation; trying to figure out how to control and hide his abilities and learning just what he could do. Feeling as safe as he could; when the world opened up again Brodie decided to head back to ESU.

Marvels NuHumans

Centuries ago, an extraterrestrial race known as the Kree waged a long war with high casualties. In need of more soldiers, one vicious faction among the Kree decided to genetically modify the DNA of other intelligent creatures across various planets, intending to create a warrior/slave caste that they could use to help win the prolonged war. The Kree eventually came to Earth, where they created their own installation and began experimenting on groups of humans, using their blood, changing their genetic makeup, which gave them the latent potential to develop superhuman abilities.
Before the experiments could be completed, another faction of the Kree came to Earth to shut down the project. The Kree eventually left Earth, believing their experiments were unsuccessful. However, the altered genes of the Human test subjects were passed on through generations of their descendants. The Kree also left behind the numerous Terrigen Crystals, which could be used to activate the dormant genetic modifications.

With each passing generation, the discovery of Terrigen Crystals led to more and more of what would come to be known as Inhumans appearing on Earth through what is now known as Terrigenesis. Upon exposure to the Terrigen, the subject would be cocooned and their DNA re-written. When they emerged they would now possess abilities beyond that of mortals and in some cases, a physical transformation may also have taken place. Most, if not all of these people were met with fear and loathing and were persecuted for their difference to the norm. Eventually, a cluster of Inhumans who had had enough of the world used their advanced abilities and intellects to leave the planet and settle on the moon in a utopia they called Attilan. Over the years more Inhuman settlements have popped up across the world, hidden away from prying eyes where they can live in peace and practice their ways in anonymity. These tribes would pass their Inhuman gene on down the generations, many of these descendants would go through their entire lives without knowing their potential.

In 2020, the world was quiet. With most people safely locked away in their homes due to an ongoing pandemic, the global threats that had plagued them seemed like a distant memory and the likes of SHIELD and the Avengers were not needed. That was until one day in August that a battle high above the clouds raged between the Inhumans of Attilan and one of their own, Maximus the Mad. Near death and desperate, Maximus activated his ultimate weapon, a Terrigen Crystal powered weather device. Creating a storm of pure Terrigen across the entire planet, The Mad King’s goal was to force Terrigenesis on the human population below to create his own army. In part, his plan would work as many caught in the raging monsoon would undergo the transformation but Maximus would be defeated before he could see the results. The resulting propagation around the world affected all humans with Inhuman ancestry caught in the storm causing them to undergo wild Terrigenesis a process that consisted of the formation of a cocoon around them, which would then hatch after a variable period of time. The cocoon could open immediately after forming, or days later. The resulting superpowered individuals from this event became known as NuHumans and became a new target for persecution.

It is now January of 2021, the world seems a little more normal again. In upstate New York at the famous Empire State University, destiny like the puppet master it is has begun to pull the strings of fate to bring together a group of NuHumans created by the storm in order to protect a world that will never fully understand them.

The Basics:

In this role play we will be playing the titular NuHumans; a group of young men and women who have gained extraordinary abilities from being exposed to the Terrigen Storm. Our characters will primarily be students at Empire State Univery (Alma mater to the likes of Spider-Man, Mr Fantastic and Norman Osborn) who are drawn together on the first day of a brand new school year.

I’ve gone with college kids rather than the typical high schooler as I believe that being a little older will allow for much more dramatic and more mature storytelling. This will be an 18+ role play with focus on some of the darker aspects of the comic book world, if that’s not your bag, this is not the rp for you. In regards to abilities, try to think a little outside the box. Let’s not fall into the trap of “this guy shoots fire, this girl can teleport” get a bit creative with it! Maybe you’re a twin who can now merge with their counterpart to form a superbeing? Maybe you’re a girl who can now control mirrors? The possibilities are endless.

I have it in my mind that this rp would be very similar to a tv show in that it will follow an almost episodic format and have seasons. For example; season one will be all about getting to know the team and their powers. Season two would have them up against a great threat etc…

We will not be heroes with costumes and aliases straight away. Early focus will be on building the team and their relationships.

Setting

Timeline wise; this story will exist in its own universe outside of the main Marvel continuity and the MCU and will generally act as a mixture of both. The year is 2021; superheroes have been around for about ten years. If you want to include established characters and events in your character's backstory then I’m cool with that. If anything you’ve written clashes with my plans, I’ll let you know.

Character Sheet

Further Info:
- Two Character Limit
- OOC kept our of IC
- IC will begin on the first day of the new semester
- I’m very open to storyline suggestions. Team work makes the dream work
- Two week maximum between posts
I did say above that you could use another image but it’s your call. I appreciate the interest.
Looks like we’ll be working with a smaller cast, which is fine. I’ll get to work on an OOC.
Thanks for all the interest guys!
Interested. Are mutants a thing in this world? Just wondering for backstory elements, still would play a NuHuman.

Mutants are a thing and have been common knowledge to the world since the early 2000’s.
This is very interesting and well made. Though I am somewhat opposed to the RL face-claim demand. What is your stance on characters with non-human appearances, which is somewhat common amongst the Inhumans?

As long as you explain it in your sheet, I don’t mind.
Quick question because I skimmed....no real need to be aware of the actual numutants storyline aside from what's outlined above, yes?

Correct.

Eternity had slipped by and Meadow could no longer discern what time it was. They could remember bits and pieces of the evening but most of it had become nothing but a blur in their mind's eye. The last they could really remember was dancing on the table but now, a million stardust moments later, they found themselves sitting crossed legged on the floor staring at the very same table where a graceful red haired siren danced a dance of temptation and inebriation in their stead. Meadow was entranced as they watched TJ move to the music. They could tune out the wolf whistles and loud ritual chanting of their Neanderthal classmates and just enjoy the rhythmic movement. With the arrival of Nicholas Grey, the show was over and the growing disconnect between Meadow and the world around them was expanding further.

Since day one at San Agustin; Meadow had been true to themselves, been honest with themselves and as yet had not found a pack or a herd to belong to. This didn’t bother them to start but as those early days became more and more, they wondered whether a group to love even existed. People were drawn to each other here in a way that was almost supernatural. Reactions were chemical, powerful and uncontrollable. Yet amongst the explosions of teenage decadence stood Meadow Mayflower alone in the fire. Scanning the swiftly emptying room as students paired off or wandered into the night on jelly legs, the flower child felt even more isolated than ever. Downing the last of their drink, Meadow thought it best that they took their leave also; the welcoming aura of this party had evaporated; replaced by something else, something a little more intangible.

Meadow found themselves back in their own dorm, staring out of the window and into the garden below. It was a beautiful night out there with clear starry skies and a big bright moon illuminating the blades of grass below. Lighting a candle for the Goddess; Meadow stripped off their party clothes and placed themselves in the combined lights of the moon and the fire on the floor; allowing the burning essences around them to clear their clouded booze addled mind. There was a clarity to be had in the silence of ones own castle and Meadow was having that clarity right now. All of their molecules and every fibre of their being felt tainted and poisoned, not from the alcohol but from something else; something at that party made them feel... unclean. Pulling an oversized t/shirt from under their bed, Meadow slipped it over their naked form before picking up the lit candle and hurrying out of the dorm.

The Wiccan found themself down in the courtyard, staring up at a large looming oak tree; the perfect place to cleanse. First they placed the candle and down before they dropped down to their knees and began to pray to the Goddess silently, offering respect and love to the creator. Meadow began to dig their hands into the dirt and pull clumps of mud from the earth before rubbing it into their bare skin. Mother Nature would help force whatever darkness that had sealed into Meadows pores out of their body and send it back to where it came. Once happily mudbound; they leaned against the tree with the candle held close to their chest and the dulcet tones of Stevie Nicks playing in their mind.

Bliss.
