not my finest work, but behold: a post
Telio pulled Meryn's attention again as the odd metal bird began muttering to itself. She managed to tear her eyes from the new discovery long enough to fully process what her companion was saying. At being asked her name, Meryn looked down at herself, only te remember she wasn't wearing her jacket – so she wasn't wearing her name tag. Reaching down to fumble with her still damp jacket tied to the strap of her bag, she took the time to address Telio's other questions. She gestured with her chin over to where the group still was and gave a quick thumbs up with her free hand before devoting it, too, to her search.

Eventually her fingers fumbled around the smooth wood of her pin. Curling her hand around it, she gave a quick yank, ripping the pin out of the fabric. Her jacket was an old, tattered thing – one more hole wouldn't hurt. Then pin, on the other hand, was clearly a craft of quality. Smooth, varnished wood, delicately engraved with her name and attached to a shining silver rod to pin it to her clothes. In the years she'd had it, it was the one thing that never showed any wear from her lifestyle.

Meryn pinned her name tag to her loose cream-colored top. She gave it a tap, looking up at Telio.

Then the odd bird was back, and it was talking to her. Meryn still wasn't used to that. But then she glanced down at its outstretched wing, holding some sort of lens out to her. Raising an eyebrow, she looked up to the bird's… face(?) before glancing back down. She only hesitated for a moment before reaching out to take it, throwing a look Telio's way.

Raising the glass to her eye, she breathed in a sharp gasp at what she saw. The bird's metallic voice seemed far away as Meryn spun, taking in the hidden wonders. Once again, she was captured in the thrall of discovering something new, a delighted smile growing on her face. Lowering the lens, she held it out to Telio, eager to share this wonder with someone.

Meryn turned back to the bird, green eyes bright. She pressed her lips together in a brief moment of hesitation before plowing ahead. Looking down into her bag again, she dug her hand in. The felidrake still seemed grouchy, but it was preoccupied with eating the rest of her food. Meryn tried not to roll her eyes as she avoided touching it to pull out the tiny silver bell.

Triumphant, she held it out to the bird between her two fingers. The name and the rune glistened in the light as she eagerly hoped for some sort of explanation.

Arvyria and Margareth

The flaming creature froze in the face of a loud, angry chimera. It stared after Clifford's retreating back for a long moment before looking up at the lion's head. Then down at the cobra's. A single fiery hand lifted to smack itself in the forehead before the chimera reared on its hind legs, its great wings flapping in rage. In a gust of wind, the fire extinguished, swirling out of existence.

The chimera slammed its two front legs back onto the ground, shaking the earth, and it turned its attention back to the two women. With another great roar, at lunged forward, teeth bared and claws outstretched.

Clifford

It was quiet in the tent save for the sounds of Clifford's breathing. Either the bandits who'd snatched him didn't have anything to talk about, or they'd moved farther away so as not to share their plans. It'd been years since they'd been stolen from their own lives and spirited away to this new world. In that time, they'd learned not to let their guard down around the unknown – and Clifford's mangled visage certainly counted.

Time was an arbitrary, unknowable thing as he waited in the tent. It could've been minutes or hours since the cloaked bandits had left. But then the rustling of the tent flaps broke the silence, and in walked a slight, feminine figure, masked in deer skin. She carried in a rough clay cup filled with water, but no food, as though they didn't want to spare any on something they would soon be rid of.

She was silent as she kneeled beside Clifford, though a quiet sound of disgust could be heard behind her mask. She lifted the cup to his mouth and tilted, the motion shifting her sleeve to reveal a delicate silver chain wrapped around her wrist. A small pendant in the shape of a feather dangled from it.

Bishop, Caleb, Cronus, and Morgan

The walk was largely uneventful – they passed trees, bushes, other plant life… sometimes there would be a rustling in the branches, but after a moment of stillness, any threat seamed to pass.

The men finally came to the river, a healthy, rushing thing that threatened to sweep away any who dared enter. It was wide and there was no end in sight to it, however. If they wanted to get to the town on the other side, they had no choice but to cross it.

A sharp whistle cut through the air as the men stood before the river. A dozen yards away sat an aging, portly man, bare feet dangling in the water.

"Y'all lookin' for passage?" he called. "Twenty hoops."

Robyn and Valencia

As the two women stood in the emptied field establishing their new truce, a glowing ember at the heart of the blackened patch of earth went largely unnoticed. After all, it was easily written off as a remnant from their encounter with the odd fire creature.

That is, until the flame suddenly burst into life, the entire field turning to ash under their feet as the roaring fire grew. As flames licked at the air, a form slowly took shape – vaguely similar to the creature from before, but noticeably bigger.

Eventually the flames died away, the last remnants dancing across the skin of this new figure: a man. Tall and broad shouldered, he had a mess of long, obsidian hair, and flinty black eyes. He wore an ornate red cloak, speckled with metal bits of jewelry and armor alike. In his hand he held a tall staff, a ball of glowing flame resting atop it.

The man blinked his eyes at the two women before him. Scrunching his eyebrows at them, he spun his head around, searching. Then with a sigh he closed his eyes and pressed his hand to his forehead.

"Stupid mote can't even keep 'em all together," he muttered to himself. He had a low, rasping voice. Shaking his head, he opened his eyes and looked back up at them.

"Ok, so how the heck did you all get here?"
post will be up within the hour! if you've got something to say before i do it, speak now!
@Bishop im gonna have a gm post up soon, so that's eventually gonna require some attention, lol. But don't worry about it, it'll still be there when you get back.
various shrubs, trees, and other vegetation. caleb's from a desert environment.
thank you for clarifying, but while you may not have meant to do it, that's how it comes across in your post. just an honest miscommunication. like i said before, some light edits for extra clarity would be appreciated~
@Bishop I think the issue with your post is that it seems like you're forcing characters into action, and not giving their players much of a choice. i would appreciate some edits too please!
post orders work well for chat based rps, but not so much forum based ones i've noticed.

if someone's absent for an extended period of time and then they come back, they can jump back in, either on their own just by having their character participate in the scene again, or work with me to write in some explanation as to why they were away. if they're gone for a long time then i'll remove them from the active characters list in the first ooc post, but people who leave are always welcome back.

i know this is a busy time of year for a lot of people, so a day or two away from the site is understandable. the rest of us can just keep trucking along until they return.

like i said before, i'll have a post up today regardless within the next five or six hours.
