Artemis was quick to try and hush the gryphon. With wide eyes, she bent forward, a palm held out to it.

"Hey, hey, shhhh," she whispered with a glance at the Pirate. He seemed to be enjoying his game of cat and mouse. "Who even needs some stupid branch, huh?" At least now she didn't have to throw herself at a murder tree. Artemis crept forward, still wary of it no matter how tame it appeared. She reached the barrier again, hand still outstretched. Her fingers found the delicate feathers above the gryphon's beak. Artemis paused when she had a thought. Raising an eyebrow, she moved her hand and started scratching to the side of the gryphon's head – roughly where the ears would be.

A screech and a flash came from inside the Witch's gone. Artemis snapped to attention. The Witch's silhouette behind the blinds was gone. Panic burst in Artemis' chest, stronger than she'd felt in a lifetime. But worse than that was the sudden guilt. Not stopping to think of the gryphon or the Pirate, she darted over the barrier and into the hut, frantically scanning the inside. Where'd she gone? What'd happened to her?! Was she alright, was –

Her eyes found the Lantern. Realization at what she was doing struck her still. Why was she panicking so? She'd known the Witch all of ten minutes before… running. Artemis shook her head to herself. The Witch was probably fine, and she'd just poofed away or something. Either way, it wasn't her concern.

Artemis glanced at the wardrobe she'd stood before a few minutes ago. Old habits started to kick up. Doing her best to shove aside the guilt, Artemis hurried towards it and yanked it open. Her hand found the familiar staff, worn smooth and etched with old runes. Artemis had no idea what those did. Or how to use them. Or if they even worked at all. But the staff was something, at least. Artemis turned to hurry back out the door before the Pirate – or worse yet, the Witch – caught her stealing. The Kith mask probably wouldn't help matters. She paused at the boots the Witch'd offered her, still laid out. She stuffed her feet into them to find they fit well enough.

She couldn't help but be captured by the Lantern's crimson glow again. Light filled the room like a song, melodic and inviting. Artemis crinkled her eyebrows together, tightening her grip on the staff.

It was better off with the Witch. Not Artemis.

Without another glance, she hurried out the door.

"Psst," she hissed at the gryphon. So out hadn't worked. How about up? Artemis waggled the staff at the gryphon. "See? Much better than some half rotten branch." Artemis started spinning it, as fast as she could. "Tell you what – you get me out of here and somewhere sane, we play fetch with this thing all you want." Great. Now she was trying to make a deal with a bird. Lion. Whatever. Artemis'd had a weird enough day. She was done questioning things. As soon as she'd built up enough momentum, she threw the staff as high as it would go, the staff spinning fast enough in the night sky that it almost looked like a solid disk hanging with the moon.

Irritation was quick to flare in Rae, a dozen retorts immediately jumping to mind as people – unsurprisingly – started to gang up on her. Like how she wasn't the only one with Inquisitors for parents here, and even so she'd still been thrown into juvie with the rest of them. Or how she wasn't trying to take charge. Or her favorite option by far, how she bet she could shove her fancy leg knee deep up Tobi's fancy ass, and golly gee, would he like to help her test that theory?

Then an actual lunatic appeared. Rae had to fight to flinch away from her because… seriously, something was just unnerving about the way this new girl was smiling and swinging around a gun, waxing poetic all the while. But Rae's fingers started to twitch with growing anxiety when the girl brought up her heritage again – and how just about everyone was already against her for it. For a single moment, the danger Rae was in seemed real and tangible. Her eyes flicked from the girl to the gun.

The moment was broken though, when the quiet mousy girl with the rations, the one who seemed oddly familiar surprised them all by having an actual backbone. Rae let her words sink in. She looked from Mousy back to Looney and to the gun. Her eyes lifted back up to the dark haired girl.

A saccharine sweet smile found its way to Rae's lips. Straightening up, she began walking towards Looney. Her fingers tapped a series onto her left thigh and the soft whirring and clicks of her biotech sounded under her pants. Rae stepped over the gun so she was standing directly in front of Looney. Her hand lifted to the band of her shorts and slipped under the elastic. Something clicked in her legs, and when her hand emerged she was holding a combat knife, the same burnished gold as her legs, by the handle – a fun little thing she'd illegally modded into her tech prior to her arrest. It wasn't the only one. The smile was still on Rae's face. She flipped the knife so she was holding it by the blade and held it out to Looney.

"Tell you what," she said, her voice all sugar, "I'll give you first shot at that knife in my stomach." Her smile fell and she glared at the girl. Her voice dropped its fake charm. Rae didn't take kindly to people telling her what to do. Manipulation, even less. "Better hope I don't wake up."

Rae dropped the knife at Looney's feet and brushed past her towards the ship. Her eyes met Tobi's and Charlie's only for her to quickly look away. It was the closest the two boys were going to get to any sort of deferral from her. She made her way into the ship to scavenge for supplies.
i have a post to post! soon. very soon.
I'll get up a post later today I think
Omg someone please get ready to hold Rae back. Or at least talk her down.
Posted. In case anyone missed it in her cs, Rae's a massive brat.

Rae's glee was short lived as soon certain members of the group started raging against the Inquisitors – which by extension, as much as she hated to admit it, usually included her. Her family name and her very visible military grade biotech legs typically didn't earn her any points with her fellow inmates. The smile slipped from her face as she watched people… stripping? Well, she couldn't hate the view but… was that guy for real?

Two more boys stepped forward and started speaking. Rae wrinkled her nose at being ordered around – no matter how much sense they were making.

Rae clicked her heels together, her spine going rod straight. Her hand came up to her face in a salute.

"Sir, yes sir!" she said, the familiar phrase rolling off her tongue. For a moment Rae was the picture of Inquisitor bred discipline and honor. Then the image faded. Her muscles relaxed, her weight shifting to the side and her salute falling so her hand rested on her hip.

"Please," she said with a roll of her eyes. "I'm sorry –" she wasn't sorry "– who exactly put you in charge? Because I must have missed it. What, was I passed out during the election you held while we were plummeting to the ground?" Her eyebrow was raised expectantly.
I'll have a post up at some point but I'm at work all day today. I'll try writing during my break or something.
